The late Peter Dale is much missed, but the team are continuing with his high standard of produce. P.J Dales is well known for being a licenced game dealer, and specialises in game sausages, and rare breed beef. If your tastes veer towards white meat, the chickens (French, free range) are mouthwateringly good. They are used in the cafes up the road for chicken dishes and sandwiches. There is also a good range of a label called Home Farm (also homemade), which is a line of Jams, jellies, mustard's, marinades and pickles. If you come here for your meat, I would suggest during the week is best - on a Saturday early morning there is a queue which can occasionally stretch around the block, especially around Christmas time where they are busy shifting hundreds and hundreds of free range turkeys.

Excellent butcher in Bermondsey's Maltby Street Market…read more Great selection of hi and lo cuts, there is a viewing counter in the front part of the store and in the back is where they keep a majority of the meat. Specials hang on the back wall, Jacob's ladders and ox cheek were well priced when I stopped in. I ended up getting 1.5 kilo of Jacobs ladders (aka short ribs) for about 20. The meat is really good quality and well worth the price. Service is to the point, but friendly and very accommodating. The man who was helping me kindly offered to cut my ribs down to size so that they could fit in my pan (don't get me wrong, im an awesome cook but not so great at cuts!) Try and get there earlier in the morning, as some of the more popular cuts will sell before the afternoon rush of the market area (especially on weekends!) I'm really glad I stopped in. My friends who live in the area have been raving about them and now I can definitely see why. Will be back!

I think I just got punched in the face by a sticker price. Sticker shock isn't uncommon in London,…read morebut this place takes it to new levels. Don't get me wrong; I think meat should be expensive -- eating meat is a luxury after all. But I just encountered a kilo of ribeye for £125. And I nearly swallowed my tongue. Obviously I didn't buy it. I really don't see anyone in their right mind making that purchase. Then again, this is the west side of Porotbello Road in Notting HIll. Anything's possible. These guys have really found a niche market here. There is a bit of a drought for high quality food products in this part of West London (artisan coffee shops are finally discovering this, too). They carry a good selection of the usual proteins, as well as veal and game. There's a fair number of charcuterie items, in addition to homemade meat pies and sausage rolls. I, however, went looking for chicken carcasses to make stock. The butcher kindly looked in the back to check, but informed me that all their leftovers had gone into making their own stock. Fair enough, I suppose. I've been in three times now, since it opened a few weeks ago. On the weekends, it's just too busy, and I can't be bothered to wait. But now I know I'll probably only ever be buying VERY special occasion things here. Either that, or maybe I'll just crawl up into a ball and weep about the price of living in London. And then buy meat as the farmers market instead.

It was already my butcher, and now it's officially my best food experience in London so far. Yep,…read morethat good. Came here to celebrate a recent promotion, we ended up celebrating all our senses. That ribeye for 2 was just perfectly cooked, but that might not be the most surprising here (butcher, cheater!), I was, we were, blown away by the quality of the sides: THAT cauliflower with small chunk of anchovies and chilly flakes...I still have this taste, somewhere in my mouth (that's gross, calm down Chris). Something different. The potatoes also, very simple, but so well cooked and tasty. Nothing utterly complicated, meat, potatoes and vegetable, but the way this was prepared and balanced...it's art. The waitress guided us towards the montepulciano, we had one glass each, then another one...perfect match. I love the overhall feeling as well, sitting by the communal table, that same one where I came to pick up my lamb shoulder the other day. Sorry for the fake sounding positivity here, but I can't help it. Gonna have to work even more and better to celebrate my next promotion very soon. Huhu.

As he handed me the fresh Milanese he said it was also his daughter's favorite meal so he had to make sure my daughter had her favorite dinner. Old school values in a modern butcher.
