Their prices are higher than almost everywhere else in the area. Every time I go in there and buy something on sale, it never rings up right. Today they overcharged me $17 for sale items. And if you complain? You get a bad attitude. Several of the workers are so unfriendly, it's intimidating to even go in there. Unfortunately there's not much else in the area. The store hasn't been updated since the '70s. The belt on the register has been broken for years, with a big sign that you need to push your own groceries. I understand they are a small independent store and do not have the buying power of larger chains, but they are an IGA and are way overpriced compared to other IGAs. Their cold cuts often go bad within a few days and on a few occasions, the deli ham was rancid as soon as I got it home with an overwhelming stink from the package once i opened it. They did make good on it and gave me my money back. I've also had the same problem buying their pork and chicken. .. another problem is since covid they are wrapping up their breads in cellophane. As a result The Bagels and Club Rolls not only have a strange consistency but always seem to be stale. The good thing is though, they do employee quite a few locals in an area where there really isn't much of anything except the new gentrified stores and boutiques being open by the rich idiots coming in from the city and trying to take over the area. read more

A ridiculously overpriced supermarket in a very poor area. Food prices are equivalent to Food Emporium or Fairway in Manhattan. Both myself and friends have bought meat here that went bad immediately, as in turned green almost overnight. A loaf of ciabatta will set you back $4.50. A small back of Starbucks coffee is $11. A standard box of cereal is $6. A tiny box of nothing-special cookies is $3.75. These are city prices. How local families or retired people on tight budgets can afford this place is beyond me. I would say nicer things if the owners offered regular specials, but they only do that for spoiled items. These people are greedy vultures. Stock up on bulk items at Walmart and just buy emergency stuff here. read more

I am a local and I do shop here occasionally. BUT only the sale items for the week, everything else is very overpriced. I have noticed that the meat section is about half as full and had issues before with bad meat. I am shocked with the pet food prices, a can of catfood will cost you .85-.95 a small can. Hard when you have to drive over 30 minutes somewhere else to pick up items that are crazy overpriced. Also, some of the Deli help is downright RUDE. I think that lady has been moved to the meat section, thank God! She was super nasty! Cashiers are nice. Overall, I am glad they are here. Deli prices are great. Good selection of items , just lower your prices !!!!! Locals do not have NYC incomes! read more

This is the old "Peck's Market" located in Narrowsburg NY. Typical of a small town non-mega-chain supermarket. Decent selection of items, but if you are expecting Fairway, or Whole Foods, be prepared for disappointment. They do, however, have a very good beer selection. read more

Wow. I'm surprised at the terrible reviews. We own a weekend home in Narrowsburg and shop at Pete's often. I find their chicken to be super fresh and a great value. Never had any issues with their meat. We will sometimes even buy extra to bring back to the city. Their spices are also a good value. I cook often so like to buy the large jars. The supermarket is well stocked for its size and has some great organic produce. Be prepared to pay through the nose for it though. read more

For the love of your health, don't buy food from here!!! I was told by one of my clients she'd bought a pricey pork loin. Looked fine, but when she opened it was hit with the smell of bad meat. She went to check the package date, only to discover a new sticker had been put on the meat three times!!! The meat had been sitting in the cooler for nearly four months!!!!!! I went to Pete's Market six times total as I was new to the Poconos. Each time I went, I spent roughly $80-$85 on things like cereal, soda, macaroni salad, 2 deli sandwiches one time (which were horrible actually), a few frozen meals, soups, cup of noodles, and bags of ice. Nonetheless, one time just prior to July 4th, I bought three Pyrex Glass Storage Containers with Plastic Lids on sale for future use. Subsequently, on that same trip, I went to Walmart and found more costly, but heavier duty Pyrex Glass Storage Containers with Heavy Duty Lids and Vents for when you reheat the food. I much preferred them to what I had bought at Pete's Market. On my next trip, I immediately went to Pete's to shop and spent about $70 not including the credit I was owed. I had also mistakenly bought Dr. Pepper at on a previous trip which I brought in to return. Unfortunately, when I opened the car door, the twelve pack fell out of the car and ripped open exposing two cans which went right back in. I walked in the store with only one of my five receipts, believing everything was on one receipt, and handed my returns to the owner's wife who is an owner herself, but she only allows her husband to speak for her. I suppose it is a cultural thing. She told me to do my shopping, and the returns will be done when I checkout. I proceeded to shop. I purchased some frozen meals including an Amy's Kitchen "Whole Meal" Enchilada with Rice and Beans for my companion amongst many other items. I was rung up, and when it came time for the return, all of a sudden, the owner's wife had to call her husband over to handle things. They seemed to have a long conversation in whatever tongue is native to them which I found very rude. As a result, I found myself having to explain how I found heavy duty storage containers at Walmart that were superior products to the ones I bought at Pete's. I was annoyed. Apparently, I was mistaken and did not bring the receipt for the Dr. Pepper which was a complete accident, not that the store could not easily send it back to the distributor (PepsiCo) for the damage to the box quite easily anyway, but the owner said, "No Receipt, No Return!" while acknowledging he remembers us shopping there many times in the recent past as new customers. I took the Dr. Pepper back and left only to be chased out that I did not pay for the case of water under my cart. Mind you, the very first thing I said to the lady was, "Do not forget the case of water under my cart!" I felt like they were accusing me of thieving when it was one of the owner's own errors. They should have apologized and said, "We are sorry, but we neglected to charge you for the water!" Rather, they ran after saying, "Stop, stop, you did not pay for the water!" It was not until I said, I told her about the water that the owner said, "Yes, it is our mistake," in a soft voice after yelling after me like I stole something. Two days later, I returned with one item. It was the Amy's "Whole Meal" Enchilada with Rice and Beans. It was both freezer burnt and shrunk up from normal size in the package, but we only complained of freezer burn. The owner rushed at me like a quarterback in a high stakes football game and looked at the opened package with plastic torn off so the Enchilada was completely exposed to see the freezer burn. He said, "You opened the package (meaning the plastic). I cannot accept this for return." My companion replied, the only way to see the freezer burn was to open the plastic!" The owner than looked at me and said, "I do not respect you as a customer. I do not respect your business. Every time you buy something here, you have a problem." I was highly insulted. I explained, "I returned the Pyrex, because I found better quality at Walmart for more money actually." He responded, "I no longer want you in my place of business. I will call the police if you do not leave." My companion then said something which I did not hear which did contain swear language in it in defense of me. I do not condone my companion's behavior. However, the owner then comes at me to push me out of the store by advancing forward and says, "You cannot come into my store and swear at me." I said, "I did not swear at you." He said, "You are together whatever one says comes from the other's mouth too! I was appalled, left the store, decided to contact Amy's for my money. When I took pictures for Amy's, I noticed a very curious thing, the meal expired March 31, 2015. This was 7/17/15...four months later. Pete's sells expired foods. Beware and be worried. It is not all it is cracked up to be! My other frozen meal at home was also expired! I have contacted all relevant private, consumer, and government agencies to investigate Pete's and their fitness to do business. But, I would think twice before you buy there and check dates on everything in the store before you buy anything. Buyer beware! read more

I bought gas and got a receipt. When I went home I checked my credit card statement and noticed an additional receipt for $1.00 charged to my account from the same Sunoco station. I called the manager and was told that my Credit card company put that on and It was not Pete's Sunoco. The credit card company told me to cancel my card and they would issue me another one in 4 days and they would stop payment on the unauthorized charge. It was only for a dollar i know but what if? This place is an absolute pigsty the counter where you get cold cuts is disgusting and the area where you get pre-made egg sandwiches has greasy fingerprints all over it the slurpee machine when you walk in is literally disgusting and dripping on the floor what a shame I have been coming to narrowsburg for 40 years and it has always been neat and clean this place is a real mess I drive to either Yulan Callicoon for my food at Pecks. In addition that pricing is much to high for me. It is a shame that this town has nowhere to shop. read more

good little grocery store - fresh meat, everything you need if you're not toooo picky, little gluten-free section (and frozen GF breads!), deli counter with boars head etc that also makes sandwiches (including breakfast sandwiches!). good beer selection, good hours, always full of friendly people. read more

Since Peck's became Pete's, I have noticed a major decline in the quality of products while there has been a major increase in the pricing. I shop very infrequently at Pete's. Today, I stopped just to get a couple of items. While in the check-out line, the customer in front of me had two large clear bags of chicken breasts and also had them in two plastic shopping bags each because he said they were "yucky." The cashier took them out of the shopping bags and put them, one at a time, on the counter/scanner to find the upc to scan. After scanning and putting back in the bags, both she and the customer used hand sanitizer. She never cleaned the counter. Once done with that customer, she started to scan my items, however, I insisted that she clean the counter. She became nasty and stated that it wasn't dirty but when she did in fact wipe it, you could see the difference. As I was leaving, she stated, "It's been that kind of week!" If cleanliness is "that kind of week" I'm done with that store. read more
