FOOD Salmon Sashimi ($17) 8 pieces of soft buttery Atlantic salmon - yum! Bento B ($20+$3 for salmon) Great option and perhaps best in town: healthy dose of cooked veggies atop a bed of rice, capped with your choice of teriyaki beef, chicken, or salmon (which is $3 more). All that comes with a couple of pieces of seasonal fruit (a slice of orange and large slice of cantaloupe today), a choice of seaweed salad or green salad (with Japanese dressing on the side) and 5 pieces of dynamite roll, and one of each of salmon and tuna nigiri along with a miso soup. The salmon was cooked well - still tender, soft and tasty - but I wish the piece was larger! California Roll ($8) Eight pieces of Cali roll done well! Futomaki Roll ($7 for 5 pieces) Oft overlooked, but quite a relish set - yum! === 3. SERVICE I called ahead to place the pickup order; service was pleasant, the food was prepared in less than the 20 mins quoted and service was great indoors also. === 4. ENVIRONMENT It's not large inside the cozy restaurant just off of Oak bay Avenue; you could likely fit a group of 8 inside but will want to stick with a group of 2 or 4 most of the time. It's bright, clean, and pleasant with a good amount of space between tables for privacy and comfort. Wheelchairs and baby strollers would not have an issue here. Parking is interesting: primarily street oriented!

Review Template ===…read more1. VERDICT/VALUE The Google reviews maybe hyped up my expectations; I might only swing by again if I were in the area. The prices were not really enticing enough to get past the food quality bar: which is exceeded by other sushi places in town. === 2. FOOD If Sushi Story excels at anything, it would be on providing large pieces of tempura, square-shaped :) Katsu Dinner Box ($23.95): It's good value for dinner: pork katsu on rice with dynamite roll, salad, four pieces of tempura, some fruit, and miso soup. Sashimi Dinner Box ($25.95) It's the kitchen sink: four pieces of sashimi, three pieces of nigiri, dynamite roll, four pieces of tempura, some fruit, a miso soup and an ebb sunomono. The shrimp in the sunomono were big but very odd-tasting - not sure if they went bad or what, but I would not do that again. The noodles were fine, if not really al dente. Prawn Tempura ($13.95): Six pieces of delights await you, lightly breaded for the most part. === 3. SERVICE Perhaps all but our server were Korean; our server was an older Japanese lady who treated us really well and catered to my little guy. I would be happy to be served at the restaurant again by the lady we had. === 4. ENVIRONMENT Don't let the nondescript parking lot outside fool you; it's a bit of a darker wood oasis that awaits you and it's older but pleasant. Groups may ideally be sized 6 or less, but there is plenty of space between booths/tables and wheelchairs and baby stroller would be welcomed easily. Parking is very much available in the shopping complex lot outside - with a lot of transient traffic from food delivery drivers.

We usually go to Gozen, Yua or Toro in dwtn Victoria but decided to stop here for a quick bite since I had to grab groceries..... Stopped in @11:40am and I wish I hadn't... I ordered the Tempura Udon Soup and a Dynamite Roll... Tempura prawn(a) tasted old, chewy and almost like it was leftover from the day before. I had to ask for wasabi, napkins and water after my meal came, so that alone should tell you about the lack of service I was getting. Udon soup was a joke, the broth was disgusting and flavourless, the soup has 2 pieces of tiny fish cakes broccoli and 2 pieces of mini carrots and that was it... :( I didn't finish either items that I ordered and I can say this - there is no way I will be coming back.... For $30 it wasn't even close to being worth it. I'll happily spend $30 at Gozen or Yua Sushi and have yet to have a bad meal or service. Also for $30 you get a huge, fresh and delicious meal, not at Victoria Sushi, the food was garbage - sorry to be blunt.

I cannot recommend the Britto enough as even if you have eaten all the meat, the choice of ingredients within the Britto are absolutely perfect for every single bite. Not to mention, they are a great lunch or dinner to pack up and eat anywhere you want, we chose the waterfront a few blocks away. The service was amazing, super polite and friendly and our orders were made extremely quickly, just enough time you know it was not pre-made, but fast enough that we were pleasantly surprised. I haven't eaten in the restaurant so I cannot comment on that but there are tables if that is something you wanted to do, the vibe in there is very clean and simple. Overall I absolutely recommend trying them out, especially the Britto, I will always rave about them, and for less than $20, I was full before I even finished it and I do not get full easily.

Plus, they were clearly all hustling as fast as they could. For the food, they were actually sold out of a few things because we came later in the evening, but that made it clear they make everything fresh, same day. We had the agedashi tofu, which was perfectly crispy outside and soft inside with a tasty sauce beneath. My spicy chicken tofu soup came out steaming with an egg and rice, and I loved it. My husband had the yaki udon stir fry noodles and he devoured it. Tea was free, and I'm writing this review as we're sitting in Hara for a second night in a row!
