I stay at a lot of Marriott properties world wide, and this one is definitely in the lower end of…read morethe Marriott spectrum. However, this hotel isn't all that bad.
Pros:
* Only Marriott property in Peterborough, so you're racking up those points.
* Hotel is only two stories - I like skyscraper hotels, but not in small towns like this.
* Everything you need to survive is on property - Room, restaurant, Bar, fitness center (leisure club), etc..
* Staff is generally friendly and accommodating.
* Beds - Featherbeds are standard.
* TVs - Recently updated. 46" or so LED TVs installed with Spotify and provisions to use an HDMI device.
Cons:
* Dated - This place looks like it may have been another hotel at one point. I've seen no other Marriott property like this. Website says it was built in 1988 or so.
* Beds - King size beds are hard to come by, and my bed doesn't have a top sheet, just a blanket.
* Lunch / Dinner - Haven't eaten either of those meals at the hotel while on this trip, but the last trip I recall the food being mediocre at best.
* Bar - IIRC, Drinks are pricey. They know they have a captive audience, and most are probably here on business so they can expense it. Plus it's a hotel.
* Location - This has got to be the worst part. This hotel is located about 3 miles from the city center which has good restaurants, shopping, the Cathedral, and the train station. It's an £8-10 ride down there, so you have to add £16-20 to the cost of your evening if you want to have dinner out somewhere.
* Thin walls - Hallway noises and loud neighbors are noticeable.
* No outlets near bed - I have to charge all my gadgets over on the desk, so it's hard to use your phone in bed if you want to just roll over and go to sleep. This seems to be an England thing and not local to this hotel though - I think it has to do with British electrical code.
Stuff that's alright:
* Breakfast here is OK - I guess its an English style breakfast. Every Marriott I've been to in England serves pretty much the exact same thing.
* Fitness Club - Small, but effective. I don't think fitness is a thing here, as most of the time it's empty.
* Pool - Indoor, under a 3 seasons room kind of thing. Lounges to lay out on indoors.
* Wi-Fi - No 3 device limit like other Marriotts, and it's good for about 10Mbps in either direction. Amazon Firestick works well.
For all the negative that can be said about this hotel, it's really not a bad place to stay. I'd stay here again if I am in town. It's clean, seems safe, has good parking and good staff.
Protip - Let the hotel call cabs / or call BettaCars yourself. They're cheaper than the metered taxis by a few pounds.
