    Peterborough Marriott Hotel - Lounge

    Peterborough Marriott Hotel

    (5 reviews)

    ££

This is a standard Marriott and would normally get a 3 star from me, but having stayed in 3 other…read morehotels in Peterborough, I think it deserves a fourth star as the best hotel of the lot. Upsides: Comfortable rooms, friendly hotel and staff, quiet rooms, beds are nice, rooms are always clean. Food is done well, both breakfast and dinner. Downsides: No free wifi in the rooms. Far from the centre of Peterborough (cab cost £10). No other dining options nearby except a Harvester.

I stay at a lot of Marriott properties world wide, and this one is definitely in the lower end of…read morethe Marriott spectrum. However, this hotel isn't all that bad. Pros: * Only Marriott property in Peterborough, so you're racking up those points. * Hotel is only two stories - I like skyscraper hotels, but not in small towns like this. * Everything you need to survive is on property - Room, restaurant, Bar, fitness center (leisure club), etc.. * Staff is generally friendly and accommodating. * Beds - Featherbeds are standard. * TVs - Recently updated. 46" or so LED TVs installed with Spotify and provisions to use an HDMI device. Cons: * Dated - This place looks like it may have been another hotel at one point. I've seen no other Marriott property like this. Website says it was built in 1988 or so. * Beds - King size beds are hard to come by, and my bed doesn't have a top sheet, just a blanket. * Lunch / Dinner - Haven't eaten either of those meals at the hotel while on this trip, but the last trip I recall the food being mediocre at best. * Bar - IIRC, Drinks are pricey. They know they have a captive audience, and most are probably here on business so they can expense it. Plus it's a hotel. * Location - This has got to be the worst part. This hotel is located about 3 miles from the city center which has good restaurants, shopping, the Cathedral, and the train station. It's an £8-10 ride down there, so you have to add £16-20 to the cost of your evening if you want to have dinner out somewhere. * Thin walls - Hallway noises and loud neighbors are noticeable. * No outlets near bed - I have to charge all my gadgets over on the desk, so it's hard to use your phone in bed if you want to just roll over and go to sleep. This seems to be an England thing and not local to this hotel though - I think it has to do with British electrical code. Stuff that's alright: * Breakfast here is OK - I guess its an English style breakfast. Every Marriott I've been to in England serves pretty much the exact same thing. * Fitness Club - Small, but effective. I don't think fitness is a thing here, as most of the time it's empty. * Pool - Indoor, under a 3 seasons room kind of thing. Lounges to lay out on indoors. * Wi-Fi - No 3 device limit like other Marriotts, and it's good for about 10Mbps in either direction. Amazon Firestick works well. For all the negative that can be said about this hotel, it's really not a bad place to stay. I'd stay here again if I am in town. It's clean, seems safe, has good parking and good staff. Protip - Let the hotel call cabs / or call BettaCars yourself. They're cheaper than the metered taxis by a few pounds.

    Sibson Inn - Lounge area

The Sibson Inn is a lovely, small hotel and restaurant converted from an old farmhouse, on the…read morenorthbound side of the A1, just west of Peterborough. The oldest part dates back to around 1670, with other parts added on over the years, so the main bar and restaurant area has an appropriate old-world feel, with beams and open fires. The main building has a restaurant with several different seating areas, and a bar/lounge area with armchairs and (in winter) a real fire. I had a very nice meal (dinner) indeed - although many seem to stop for just for a coffee to break their journey. (So much nice than a service station!). They also serve real ale for those not driving. The accommodation is located in both the main building and in the adjacent blocks, converted from old farm buildings, which form an attractive courtyard area at the rear. Next to this are a series of function rooms - the Inn is a popular venue both for meetings and for wedding receptions - with a very impressive marquee. The site has ample parking. There are 19 rooms, most of which have been refurbished to a very high standard, and are all en-suite. I had a sneak look at the bridal suite, which is beautifully done out in cream, chocolate and gold, and has a spacious modern bathroom suite. Those at the rear of the hotel have lovely views over fields and countryside: a small number face the A1. These have deep double-glazing, and I slept like a log, although really light sleepers may still hear the passing traffic and should ask for a room at the rear. Room rates (B&B) range from £50 single to £120 (for two, obviously!) for the Bridal Suite. Staff are very friendly, and informal in a nice sort of way - and they seem to have a regular clientele of loyal customers as a result.

cracking place, I got married here last year and it was brilliant. The staff were great (especially…read morethe night before when my friends and I stayed in the bar until the early hours!), the food was great and the atmospher was brilliant all day. I would recommend this place to anyone!
