I saw multiple doctors, dentists and even a neurologist who all kept referring me to someone else. I was so sick of seeing people who didn't remember who I was, or the problem I was having, because no one could figure it out. I gave Dr. Head's office a call, even though I knew I couldn't go into the office and see him. He responded the same day, listened to my symptoms and gave his best guess at what could be the problem. He obviously had pulled up my chart before calling me, and took the time to re-familiarize himself with a patient he hadn't seen in a few years. That's more than I can say for any of the doctors or dentists I've seen down here. I'm not sure if his diagnosis is correct yet, but I will be mentioning it to the next dentist I see. I'm considering driving back to KY to have him take a look because he is the only dentist I trust at this point. I got talked into a consultation for crowns on my front 4 teeth - "to improve" my smile. Dr. M S played on an insecurity and I fell for it. Two days before the appointment I called to cancel. I had changed my mind. My gut was screaming at me to not do it. I told the office manager, Ms. M that I wanted to cancel my appointment. She said, "Sure, no problem. Can I have your name?" I gave her my name and she sucked in her breath dramatically and said, "Oh no, Michelle! You can't cancel. Dr. Marc has allotted 2-3 hours for you. There isn't enough time to get patients in to fill those slots. Why do you want to cancel?" I told her that I had changed my mind. That I didn't want to go through with the procedure. That I was extremely anxious and that my gut was telling me not to proceed. She said, "Why are you so anxious? Dr. Marc is one of the best. He does fantastic work and you'll be very happy with it when it's done." I started to cry. I told her I did not want to do it. She told me that I could not cancel the appointment. And against my better judgment I went to the appointment. That was the start of permanently ruining my teeth, my speech and my eating. My life has been turned upside down. The very first day when the numbing wore off I had searing pain in my teeth. I had extreme cold and heat sensitivity in my teeth. I was drooling and had a terrible lisp. I was told that it was because it was the temporary teeth and the permanent ones wouldn't cause a lisp and that the pain would go away with time. It did not. I called several times and had a few visits and many, many X-rays in the four month period after the first visit to get the crowns put on. Why? Because I was in so much horrible pain that I couldn't eat and I couldn't sleep. I was told that nothing was wrong. Well, I had abscesses! And my teeth had died because it had been left for so long. It took 4 months for them to find the infections and by then it took 4 rounds of antibiotics to bring the infections down. Which destroyed my stomach. I had pain up into my nasal cavities and cheek bones but I was told that there was nothing wrong with me for 4 months. I was then told that I needed root canals to fix the damage. Dr. M did the two root canals. And I still had terrible pain. I was told there was no reason for me to have pain and was being treated like it was all in my head. So, they finally decided to do a 3d panoramic X-ray. I had to see a specialist. I needed an endodontist and would likely need an apicoectomy. Surgery! I found an endodontist in my insurance network, since the one he referred me to and sent my X-rays to were not in my network. But they would not send my endodontist my X-rays. The X-rays were requested multiple times and were never sent. I had to go to their office and tell them that I wanted my X-rays for surgery. The endodontist said that there is significant bone loss due to how long the infections were let go in my mouth. Four months of ignored infections caused permanent bone loss. I had a new hydro-therapy procedure and the root canals redone. I was told that the root canals had not been done properly and the infection had not been properly cleaned out. I still had infection in my teeth 5 months on from getting the crowns. I have not had the apicoectomy. Yet. It is likely in my future because I still can not eat the way I used to. I can no longer tear or rip foods with my front teeth. I can no longer eat anything chewy or bite into things like crusty bread or bagels. And forget about ever biting into an apple again or eating corn on the cob. I still have pain in front teeth when there's any kind of pressure on them, ie - pushing with my tongue or my teeth coming together. It's been a year since the initial procedure and I still have pain. Oh, and I still have a slight lisp. Yep, at 53 years old I now have a lisp because of this dentist! I was also told that losing those teeth completely down the road is still a possibility. What a nightmare! Who wants to hear that they may lose their two front teeth! All of this has cost me thousands and thousands of dollars. When me and my family left this practice after what they did to me I could not get my dental records and X-rays sent to my new dentist. The office requested multiple times, and just like the endodontist, could not get them. I had to show up at the office and tell them that I wanted them sent right then and I waited in the office until they sent them over. If you value your teeth, your health, and your money then you should avoid this dentist office at all costs. My life has been permanently altered by this office and I will never eat or talk the same again.

When I was there yesterday, the doctor handed me a mirror and showed me the places in my mouth that he had some concerns with and where he was watching for future possible cavities. The 2 dentists are very different. Peters is funny, silly, and always takes the time to ask how my work is going. He really gets a kick out of telling stupid dentist jokes. Lenz is more soft spoken and never chastises me too bad for not flossing enough. The practice even had late hours one day a week (Tuesdays until 7pm I think) and opens as early as 7am on some days... Showed up for initial visit and was informed that only X-rays and exam are done at initial visits, then a follow up visit would be scheduled to come back for cleaning/dental work if needed. Asked if X-rays that were recently done at previous dentist office could be used instead of having it repeated. Was told no, they have to do their own X-rays on new patients. At the end of my appt I was told that they are booked up for the next 6months and their protocol is to place pts on a waitlist and call to schedule them when an appt "opens up". They stated that appts open up several times a day and when they have an opening they will call people on the waitlist and offer them the open slot. They stated that the appt will usually be for that same day or the next day and that you have to make sure you answer when called or they will move on to the next person on the waitlist. I informed them that this did not seem feasible for someone who has to work, to be expected to wait by the phone everyday hoping for a call, and then to only give their job a couple hours notice or 1day notice for request off. Then they stated "we have openings everyday so if you miss the first opportunity, you'll still have plenty of other opportunities to get on the schedule, sometimes we can give you up to a 1-2week notice, I'll just make a note of your preference in your chart". This was NOT mentioned until the end of the appt and I was not ok with this. Still, I agreed because at this point I just went through about 20 X-rays, had my mouth violated with 2 different sets of hands/fingers, and paid my copay. (Many of my friends opted out of being seen here after hearing about my initial visit.) EVERY other person of COLOR that I referred(7+people) that still went to their appts, went through this same exact rigmarole. Didn't matter if they needed a cleaning or a cavity filled or a simple paint on fluoride treatment. This was the rigmarole. Then I was alerted by one friend, a Caucasian woman with the same exact insurance as me and the rest of the people of COLOR, that she went to her initial appt and had a completely different experience. Not only was she NEVER told about their "protocol".... This Caucasian woman had her X-rays, exam, and cleaning done in the same visit and was SCHEDULED for two days later to come back for her needed dental work. Then about a week later she needed a cap replaced(non emergency) and was SCHEDULED again for the following week at her time of choice. My caucasian friend wrote her appt down wrong and walked in a day late and was still seen with no wait. Meanwhile, I and the other 7 people of color were still not able to get in for a simple cleaning. This was not the only issues noted. This was just the biggest one for me.
