Awesome Playground and park set in the middle of downtown Kirkland. Kids of all younger ages hoarded the large play structure (in a good way) when the sun came out and the rising temperatures of spring wafted through on Saturday the 18th of March. The fields were also bustling with kids throwing footballs, running and playing. The basketball court and tennis courts, also full, kept older teenagers and adults out in the sunshine and active. Two-hour street parking seemed relatively easy to come by, and with the library and a community center right there, the space is perfect for all things Saturday. read more

Peter Kirk Park is a suburban park that is ex-large in size with more than the typical amenities. A baseball/softball field with spectator seating and even a concessions stand is the biggest feature. Picnic tables, a sizable playground, tennis courts, skate park, seasonal swimming pool, and public parking round out the top features. With Kirkland Urban completing the key elements of its construction, it is a fully open connected space between the sizable Peter Kirk Park and Kirkland Urban. Nice park with different amenities for families in downtown Kirkland. Peter Kirk Park is a spacious area for several different activities. Not only is there a large green space, but there's a skateboarding park, teen center, playground, tennis courts and a baseball field. There's a short walking trail throughout the park, and is walking distance to several different businesses. Really - there's a lot to offer for those looking to spend some time in a park and being active. It's a great area for gathering, as it's centrally located to not only restaurants, but the Kirkland Performing Arts Center, library, and is located right off of Central Way, as you enter the City of Kirkland. Overall, if you're looking for a park in downtown Kirkland that won't be as crowded as the waterfront parks, Peter Kirk Park is a solid option. read more

This is a great park for some things, and a lousy park for others. There is a lot of open space here, and for picnicking or tossing a frisbee, or letting the kids just run around, it's great. When my kids were younger, they went on Easter egg hunts here (more like a "run for the scattered eggs all over the grassy infield", not a hunt per se!), and played in the playground a lot. The playground equipment has recently been updated and it's probably safer now, with different areas for different aged kids (i.e., separate slides. This is a good thing!). What I don't like, as has already been mentioned, is the lack of shade and the lack of bathroom facilities. It would be wise to come here on overcast days only (once we came on a hot sunny day and we were only able to stay 10 minutes. We literally baked). The ball field and nearby pool and Parkplace shops are great, and we've often mosied to the Kirkland library adjacent to the park. There's lots to do in walking distance, for sure. There's a semi-elaborate skate park on the grounds, near the playground area. This can be problematic, with teens nearby, sometimes swearing or smoking. Luckily, I've only encountered this issue a few times. Usually my kids have enjoyed watching the teens do thier skate tricks, and the teens have usually been well-behaved. read more

We used to live walking distance to this park and used it all the time. It is a lovely place to hang out, spend time with friends, or have a picnic. Nice amount of green-space, good playground for multi-age kids, nice proximity to cafes and amenities. Nearest bathrooms are at the library (that's probably the best place for parking as well.) read more

For it's proximity to other venues, that it's downtown location really sets Kirkland's tone for parks loudly, and for tennis, pool and a great baseball field I love this park. For parking and extreme lack of shade, I don't. It's most noticeable feature is the newly renovated kid play structure, which anytime it's nice out is in direct baking sunlight with no reprieve. The ball field is such a treat to watch kids play on, especially when it's your own not so little anymore little slugger. We routinely enjoy picnics here between visiting for other reasons (my kids outgrew play structures sometime around when they got driver's permits), and for that, the wide open grass is lovely to spread out for that. read more

The Playground was replaced with new equiptment. Thanks, the kids needed seperate slides for different ages. The Park needs more trees and benches around the playground. There should be a Fence on the North side of the park next to the playground to keep kids safe from the traffic. There are too many kids smoking cigarettes and marajuana in the park. Frequently it blows onto the playground. There is a skate park area next to the kids playground, as well as the Teen Center. Come on kids, knock it out with the smoking, please. There are public bathrooms next to the baseball diamond and transit center. Although they are pretty gross. Yea, go to Starbucks in Parkplace, there key is on the glass counter. The park really needs a Sandbox & Swings. Seems like there is plenty of space to add one. The tennis court and basketball courts look like they get used. The pool is visited in the summer. Thank goodness for the Parking Garage on the corner... too bad Parkplace can't work together with the city and build another garage there next to QFC. Good park. Love this location for a easy place to play, weather permitting. Need more coverage or trees. read more

The new play structure (2012) has too many blind spots for helicopter parents. Also, there are no shaded areas near the benches. Nor are there any nearby bathrooms. Ugh!!! read more

Nice multi--use park in the heart of Kirkland. There's tennis courts, basketball courts, a children's play area, picnic tables, a skate park and lots of grass to run or picnic on. Adjacent to Lee Johnson Baseball Field, the Kirkland pool, and the library. The park's only shortcoming is the lack of a public restroom which can be dramatic if you're with little ones. (Hint: upstairs QFC, they're pretty tolerant.) read more

We went to this park while visiting kirkland. We parked at the library ( awesome library we went to it too) and walked to the park. It was not a hot day so no problem with sun. The pool was great! It was large, the kiddie pool was seperate, there was a diving board and best of all it was Clean and UN crowded even on a hot day like today! Very pleased. At a price of $3 it really can't be beat. The sessions run for an hour and a half or so-so each time the session ends you must pay to re-enter...but still even if you go for 2 sessions, $6 is not bad. The lounge chairs are nice, but they fill up pretty quickly. We layed our towels on the ground but I didn't worry bc the place was impeccably clean. I would definitely call next time to see if you can bring your own chairs. Theres not much else to say. If you want a nice, relaxing pool experience, this is it! Its not filled with any activities beside the dive board, but if you are looking to lay out and swim a few laps or dive in a few times its great. There were tons of families with kids around too, playing games and so forth. The pool was so big it didn't distract at all. PS on the site they say the pool is heated to 86 degrees--so it was really warm. read more

Tons of wide open space located right in downtown Kirkland. There's walking paths, tennis courts, a baseball field, a swimming pool, and a rec center all included in this spacious bit of public land. Random benches along the walking paths make for nice pit stops and the uneven landscape adds a bit of character to what otherwise might have been a pretty generic space. One of the things I like to do is find a parking space on the east end of the park and then walk through on my way to the downtown shops and Marina Park area. The Kirkland Performance Center and the library are also connected to the park along with easy access to just about everything Kirkland has to offer. read more

When I am downtown, this is typically where I bring a picnic lunch. I can tell others do the same by the size and personality of the seagulls, crows and squirrels. It's a convenient spot, though less of a walking park and more of a sitting or play-structure playing park. read more
