Seriously, stay as far away from Peter Lyu as possible. The arrogance and ignorance of this office are sickening. They charged me $2,340.00 to pull one tooth--ONE TOOTH. I'll repeat it, ONE TOOTH, $2,340.00. They included $1,800.00 in unnecessary bone grafting I did not need at $920.00, and so-called tissue regeneration at $880.00, making me feel as if I needed it. Even my insurance company was utterly shocked that they charged this much for a simple extraction, telling me it was the most expensive extraction she had ever seen. So out of the goodness of their heart, they gave me a ten percent discount; out of the decency of an insurance company, not this dentist, this dentist was forced to return the discount to me, and I had just signed up with this insurance company. This greedy dentist got his full $2,340.00. It has been over two months, and my gums are still not healing as quickly as they should; even his receptionist told me it should be mostly healed at this point. Additionally, I told the receptionist I bit into an oyster cracker, and she did not tell the dentist about this, which made me look like a fool. Sadly, I now have to look for a new specialist dentist because Peter Lyu did not honor his word. He said there was no charge for a follow-up for extractions, then today, I received a text telling me I am now out of network and must pay $200.00 for an office visit. Peter Lyu blatantly lied to my face, $200.00 for an office visit, and $185. for an X-ray. Who charges $185.00 for an X-ray or $200.00 for an office visit? Peter Lyu also told me he doesn't read reviews and that they are unimportant to him, so he will likely never read this. Dr Lyu remains cognizant of The Patient(!) throughout the procedure, watching for queques of discomfort and checking in with the patient, throughout a procedure. I've been meaning to review Dr. Lyu. He removed one of my upper wisdom teeth and it was a very positive experience. In fact, I think he could probably remove wisdom teeth in his sleep. I was very nervous leading up to the extraction because the other upper wisdom tooth took a long time to remove (this was not performed by Dr. Lyu) and didn't clot as expected. Long story short--don't go to a general dentist for wisdom tooth extraction. It took Dr. Lyu 2 minutes to numb area and 1 minute to extract--at least that's how I will remember it! I went in for a wisdom tooth extraction and everything went perfectly smooth. My appointment was at 8am (first in the morning) and I promptly got seated. They took an X-ray and a CAT scan of mouth to view my wisdom tooth and asked if I wanted to get it removed today. He went over what the surgery entailed (my tooth was fully impacted so it was a slightly more complicated than normal) and we did the surgery on the spot. He used a local anesthetic and I felt no pain at all! In total, it was a 15-minute procedure and I was out of the office by 8:40am. They gave me a small bag with post-op instructions and a bag of gauze to suppress the bleeding for the rest of the day. The staff was super friendly and easy to work with; they sent my medication to my pharmacy with no issues and my follow up appointment later that week (to make sure that it was healing properly) was really smooth. I was a bit nervous going into my appointment because I haven't heard of this office before (I found it on my insurance website). But after going in and getting a tooth removed, I'd definitely would recommend Dr. Lyu's office to anyone in the area! read more

I visited Dr. Lyu in September to have two molars extracted. He used a local anesthetic. My mouth wasn't completely numb when he began pulling the teeth, so it was very painful. The recovery was long and uncomfortable. I experienced swelling in the jaw as well as pain. And now, three months later, my jaw still looks and feels swollen; changed my appearance. I also had a lot of trouble with infections, and I wasn't able to get an explanation (as to why). The procedure was very expensive ($2,800), and my insurance didn't cover any of it. read more

I went in for a consult from my dentist, to get my last wisdom tooth evaluated for an extraction. I've had 3 pulled, and one more to go, so I marched over to Dr. Lyu's. He asked which oral surgeon did the best job, and after visiting him, hands-down my visit here was the best of the 4. He took one look at my X-ray, saw that it was a very simple extraction as my tooth was not impacted, and ask if I wanted it out today. It was a very quick 5-minute procedure: local anesthesia, some wiggling, tooth out. And my recovery was very rapid too, some minor bleeding the night of, and I woke up the next morning completely fine. I made an appointment by phone and the person making the appointment answered all my questions (and then some) without me even having to ask, she helped me feel at ease. Prior to coming in I filled out all my patient information online including having my x-ray sent from my dental office. On the day of my appointment I saw Dr. Lyu as scheduled and 30 minutes later I walked out minus a tooth, it was that quick! I came to the Dr. Lyu yesterday by the referral of my dentist. I am in my late 50s and I needed to remove my withdom tooth that broke and was cutting my gum. At first Dr. said that I will have a simple 10 minutes removal. Turned out my tooth broke completely and procedure turned into full blown surgery... it was quite a process. But Dr. Lyu and his team were very professional and calm. Yesterday night I felt like I was hit by a car. Thankfully doctor prescribed me strong pain killers. Today I am much better. The 2 front desk assistants are horrible, no manners at all. I was referred by my doctor for an extraction and I had all with me, CT scan, x-rays but they me to go through a consultation ($180) then schedule the extraction for another day. I was referred to Dr. Peter Lyu by my dentist. I get pretty nervous around dental procedures and have had some really bad experiences in the past which were hard for me to forget. I had to have four wisdom teeth extracted, and I'm in my 40's so from what I read I was expecting it to be quite painful with a longer recovery time. Dr Lyu had an incredible bed-side manner and very clearly and carefully articulated what my choices were. Whilst I was extremely nervous, after the initial consultation I had no doubt he was the right person to see. On the day of the procedure I went home and had essentially no real soreness. Day two, no swelling, no pain. Day three, feels completely normal. I have no idea how he removed four wisdom teeth without causing my any recovery pain, (or pain in general) but he did. The job was over quickly and totally painless (except for the initial little needle sticks). After the local wore off, pain was minimal for a few hours (I took no pain meds at all). Face it. Having to get a tooth pulled out of your head sucks but if you have to do it for whatever reason I can not recommend Dr Lyu any more highly. I am a total wuss about pain in my mouth and it was totally painless and as pleasant as it can possible be given the circumstances. Quality of medical procedure: FINE Front desk service: FINE Transparency about level of pain and recovery time: TERRIBLE The dentist I've been going to for years recommended that I get my bottom 2 wisdom teeth out. They grew in during my 20s - later than for most people. So late last year I found Dr. Lyu (through Yelp) and the ratings generally seemed good, plus he was close to my office, so I scheduled a consultation. The consultation went fine (except for that the front desk messed up my appointment time, resulting in waiting an additional hour, but she was very apologetic). The consultation itself was about 5 minutes long and basically involved Dr. Lyu telling me I should go ahead and get all 4 removed at the same time, because I'd have to go through the same level of sedation for the bottom 2 or all 4. I agreed - why go through the same operation twice? What he was not forthcoming about was the length of recovery and the amount of pain and discomfort involved. Most people I talked to who got wisdom teeth removed said that they felt back to normal in 1 week and fully recovered in 2 weeks. I'm nearly at 4 weeks post operation, and still feel a lot of pain - sometimes debilitating. I think this is more a function of my age (I'm 30) rather than any problems with the operating procedure. I could tell Dr. Lyu knew what he was doing, and the facility is very hygienic and well appointed, but I was super disappointed that he wasn't more honest about how long it would take someone of my age to recover. It's affected my ability to focus at work and my comfort level with heavy exercise / physical activity. Eating is also still difficult. I probably would have gone through with the procedure even if he told me how long it would take, because I trust my dentist's recommendation, but at least it wouldn't have been such a rude shock to find out how long the pain lasts. It's standard for medical professionals to be up front to their patients about recovery, but I don't feel as though Dr. Lyu was very forthcoming about it. read more

I went in for a consultation, and Dr. Lyu was very professional and patient to answer all questions I had about the surgery process. I had little bleeding post-surgeries, and my impacted wisdom tooth had only a couple of days of swelling. Dr. Lyu's team is very friendly and warm! I had my wisdom teeth taken out here. Great experience, I did the whole procedure under local anestesia only while awake and the doctor explained each step one by one. I was a bit worried about the whole thing, but it worked out perfectly. Also, very quick recovery time for me, after 24 hours no pain at all. I had 2 teeth extracted here at Dr Lyu's office back in August. He did a very good job of administering Novocaine so I would be completely numb before he pulled out my teeth. If I could give dr. Lyu 100 stars I would. I have a serious PTSD from prior oral surgeons that hunts me every time I go to the dentist even if its for a cleaning. So when I found out I have a tooth that's very close to the nerve and its a complex matter I was "nah, I'll deal with it" since the tooth is not bothering me just creates a bit of a bad breath because food gets trapped in the area where it had surfaced. Well, I decided to face my fear and not only take it out but also take it out with local anesthesia. And the moment the clamps started twisting around and I felt the slightest pinch as he pulled part of it (he had to break it to avoid the nerve) I started balling in a full blown panic attack dr. Lyu and his assistant immediately stopped, gave me a tissue and started breathing exercises with me to calm me down. And minutes later the tooth was out. He took two teeth with local anesthesia and I still can't believe I did this and barely even felt anything. I wish dr. Lyu and his staff the best of health so they can continue to do their job for a very very long time so there won't be any traumatized people. Dr. Lyu, the surgeon is 5 stars.... Ann, the front desk person is 1 at best. My husband called the office to get a soft quote for 4 wisdom teeth extraction for my son. Ann tells him an approx. cost of $1000 but needs to see x-rays to be more exact. After reviewing the x-rays, she stuck to the initial quote and says our insurance covers 80%, we're responsible for the balance. She asked whether or not my son would want to be put to sleep and my husband says yes. Before the appointment, my husband again asked to confirm the cost. She repeated about $1000. I take my son in for a 12:30 appointment the following week. After doing the paperwork, she hands me the written estimate of $1702. I call my husband right away to ask him if he knew why written estimate was $700 more than what he told me. Ann interrupts my call and says he must have misunderstood. There's NO WAY he would have misunderstood a $700 discrepancy! The bulk of the difference was due to the anesthesia. First 30 minutes @ $319 plus 2 15 minute increments of $106 each. At this point it's he says she says since I wasn't part of the conversation. My son goes in at 12:22 and I'm told to be back in 1 hour. I get a call from my son @ 1 saying he's done. The next day I asked for a copy of the bill she sent to my insurance to make sure she doesn't charge me for the extra 15 minute increments of anesthesia cost that was part of my estimate (since my son was in and out of anesthesia within 1/2 hour). She wouldn't provide it and insisted my son was there for the entire hour. After going back and forth, she tells me she will have the doctor call me to discuss it. She tells me the doctor will call me the next day at 2:30. I called her back the next day when I didn't hear from the doctor by 3. She says she doesn't remember making the appointment and had the nerve to tell me I was harassing her and hung up on me! I've had my share of dealings with dentists, oral surgeons, periodontists and I've never had to deal with anyone so unprofessional as Ann. I finally spoke with Dr. Lyu later that afternoon and he is very nice, very professional. We talked about my bill and he says he will make adjustments to the final bill once he get the insurance payment. I highly recommend Dr. Lyu, the surgeon. Just be sure to have EVERYTHING in writing before you go in so you don't accused of misunderstanding what your total cost will be. read more

Anyone who knows anything about me would be shocked to see me acknowledge someone resembling a dentist...and even more shocked to see me give five precious stars to this profession. I have an obscene phobia of dentists, having had all except three of my baby teeth yanked by one when I was younger (no typo here). As a result, I put off wisdom teeth removal for more than ten years. I was an eight year old again, sitting in Dr. Lyu's chair - I believe I even said, "I hate dentists," just like I did two decades ago. He took great care of me, prescribed anti-nausea meds with my oxycodone (after I tearfully explained the only thing I hate more than dentists is throwing up), and called eight hours after my surgery to check up on me. I doubt many people give a rave review to anyone who pries two molars out of their skull, but I'm up to the task. My dentist (Dr. Madill, great guy) referred me to Dr. Broderick who, apparently, took out my dentist's wisdom teeth. Talk about a recommendation you can trust. Unlike most people, I only have (had) two wisdom teeth and both were uppers, so I'm lucky. Dr. Broderick said I'd be in and out within the hour but I figured that was impossible. Anyway, four shots of novacaine, two twists of some pliers, that great crunching sound resonating through my skull, and I was done. Out the door with nothing but a swollen face and a prescription for Vicodin just an hour later. Yeah, I'm hardcore, you can admit it. The stitches were perfect, I was only in pain for a day and a half, and he even called me at home the night of my extraction to make sure I wasn't dead. First-rate service. If I ever feel the need to get two more teeth pulled, he's my man. read more

The place is empty yet these two young ladies at the front desk barely look up as I'm asking them questions. First off, I had an abscess in one of my wisdom teeth for I don't know how long, maybe as long as three months as I was feeling feverish and achy with flu like symptoms for a long long time before I realized it might have something to do with that ache and pain in my wisdom tooth. Saw my amazing dentist Lauren Hebel, who immediately walked me to the oral surgeon after poking around in my mouth and seeing my pale and spaced out disposition, to make sure I didn't run when she announced to me that I need to get that tooth out today, meaning in the newt 10 minutes. What!!!? Yes, my worst nightmare come to life. With that being said, I was lucky that Peter looked at my tooth, said, I see you were scheduled three years ago to get all of your wisdom teeth pulled to avoid what is happening to you now. He said, looks like its been here awhile, and its not as inflamed to cause for pulling today, and we can put you out and pull all four at once in a week, or I can pull this one out right now while your full awake and you can come back for the rest later. Ummmm.....what the hell would you pick? I chose the to wait, take a heavy antibiotic and mouthwash, deal with the fever and extreme exhaustion, and come back in a week when they had their next appointment available. Everything went smooth as butter with Peter Lyu and his staff. From detailed fast insurance estimates via email with clear instructions on the surgery details and everything else. I found his staff and his practices very detailed oriented and user friendly. All I had to do was give my insurance card to them and schedule my appointment, show up and get my wisdom teeth pulled. NO hassle and very friendly and again, efficient and detailed care. This is very important for someone who is extremely afraid of oral surgeons and oral surgeries, it made it easy. No chance for me to back out! As for the surgery, I was lucky I had small roots in my teeth, they were no where near the nerves. I had two impacted teeth, and two were not, with one so infected it was half rotted away. The nurse who assisted was wonderful in addressing my anxiety and very concerned about my welfare as I waited for the doctor to come in. He listened to my concerns about vomiting under general and prescribed me zofran right away without questioning me any further and it worked like a charm for me. Its my fourth day post op and I couldn't ask for a better recovery. My jaw is sore and so is my neck so much its a little hard for me to lay my head back, but I have stopped bleeding. I can feel the stitches pulling, but all in all, I can't believe I am doing so well. And I do believe its due to the skill of the surgeon and his staff. He was friendly, very understanding that I was a high anxiety patient, answered all my questions, didn't go into too much detail and was really good with the IV. After having multiple knee surgeries and brain surgery, I was most afraid of getting the IV(have had multiple incredibly bad traumatizing IV situations) and my wisdom teeth pulled( so afraid of the mouth, have no idea why), and Peter and his staff were concerned and took care of me without making me feel weird about it. Highly recommend Peter Lyu for any oral surgery. Be prepared to get things done fast, without any hassle and have detailed care without being too cloying. Wow is all I can say. After ending up in the ER after my last visit to a dentist about two years ago I was reluctant, to say the least, about going and seeing another one. So after almost 2 years of neglect I was forced to see an oral surgeon to have two of my wisdom teeth extracted one of which had a major cavity, was broken and was quite painful. I cross referenced the list of "in -network" providers supplied by my new dental insurance with yelp ratings. I found Dr. Lyu. I called at 8:10AM this morning and was informed that they weren't seeing any patients today but would be happy to make time for me tomorrow. I explained my situation and immediately was asked how quickly I could make it in. I arrived at 9AM and took a quick x-ray. Dr. Lyu explained to me the procedure and gave me the option of having the teeth removed today with a local anesthesia, or scheduling one at a later date with general anaesthesia. I opted for the local and having the teeth removed today. I left there less than an hour later minus two teeth. The procedure was quick and painless (something my last experience at the "other" dentist was not). Thank you Dr. Lyu and staff for everything. I am sure it must be frustrating to deal with people like myself who neglect these things until it's an emergency and requires immediate treatment. Never did I ever . . . Think that I would look up an Oral Surgeon on a random website. Thank god I did. I had a gnarly infected tooth. I went and saw Dr. Peter Lyu at this office. I called Wednesday. I had a consultation Thursday morning before work and had surgery scheduled for Friday. Dr. Lyu was so kind. I didn't feel rushed at all. We joked we laughed and though he told me that I had about 5k of work to be done he was honest about what was necessary and what was preventative and never pressured me to do anything over the absolutely necessary. On top of that the assistants were super sweet, the office has the latest x-ray equipment which means no uncomfortable gagging with hard cardboard in your mouth and good magazines. The office itself isn't much to look at but by no means was I there for the decor. The day of the surgery I was in and out in two hours. I don't remember a thing from the surgery and didn't even have a mark from the IV. Dr. Lyu was amazing and I was so lucky to find him. read more

I was referred to Dr. Lyu by Dr. Noren for my wisdom teeth extraction. Dr. Lyu was very nice about the whole thing and explained the options I had after reviewing the x-ray. The x-ray by the way was awesome! Totally sci-fi. You just stand there and hold still while the machine moves around you. Anyhow, I opted to pull all 4 out even though only 2 had shown up. Why the heck not? Plus, I had a sizable medical reimbursement account to help. I choose to have general anesthesia and like clockwork an hour later I was done and leaving the office. I was only in pain the day of the extraction and had stopped bleeding later that day also. My swelling wasn't too bad. I think I generally recover pretty well.
