We are on a 20 hour drive to Virginia and have our two cats with us. One of our cats gets extremely car sick and starts frothing at the mouth and throwing up, we called ahead and Carol picked up, we told her our situation and she was quick to give us amazing advice! When we arrived we asked for her by name and she came to our service, she was able to help us find exactly what we needed, she even gave us advice on how to make them feel calm while driving since she has a cat of her own and was invested in helping us, people know her as "Auntie Carol" and if we lived in this area we would definitely make this our go-to pet store because of her!! Absolutely awful. I went there to get a hide for my pet snake, and I happened to stop by the fish. There were dead goldfish everywhere, beta fish, and plastic tubs with almost no space and they looked practically dead. Also, there were dead fish in some of the aerated tanks. I would never go back there and they take horrible care of their animals. One star. read more

I wish I could rate the Petco grooming in Waco, Tx zero stars. I dropped my Portuguese water dog off at 11:30am for a grooming. They closed at 7pm.. I haven't heard an update. I show up to pick him up and he's not even close to being groomed. At 8pm I left the store. Close to 9 hours my poor baby was there!! And he looks like THIS. His face is not groomed, his hair is uneven all over his body, and his underbelly has razor burn from the clippers. Petco gave me a full refund after I told them how unacceptable this was. But it doesn't justify the fact that I need to take him to yet another groomer to fix all the mistakes Petco grooming made. Do not bring your fur babies here. read more

This place is absolutely disturbing! I take my dog to get her nails trimmed here and I have no idea what happened during that visit but we dropped her off and she was shaking and wouldn't move, and it wasn't just my dog but 2 other dogs that were there were doing the same thing! When I went to go my her up, the lady went to the back and heard a big cry or yelp from a dog come from back there! She came out with my dog and smiled real awkwardly and said "have a great day!" I was very concerned not just for my dog's well-being but the ones back there too. Never again will I bring my dog there. I would rather have to get a reservation and pay boocoos of money for my dog to be treated right, then be cheap and risk my dog's health and life. read more

They injured my dogs nail while bathing they say. It was cut so short or "broke in the wash tub as they say" I had to take him to the vet to get out to stop bleeding. A healthy dogs nails dont just break. It was sore for days. As a matter of fact he is still licking it two wees later. They paid the vet bill but nevertheless this never should have happened. They were negligent in some way. After 8 years of positive experiences at Petco Grooming in League City Texas this was a horrible experience. I will not be using this location salon again. You hurt my pet, you dont get a second chance. I placed a review on the Petco main (same review as above) and they said they could not post it due to it not meeting all of their guidelines. What a bunch of BS. Never got an apology, never a call back to see how my dog was doing, nothing. They are in it for the money and that's it. I will go to a private groomer from now on and purchase all of my pet supplies elsewhere. Beware! read more

Pretty normal Petco. The staff didn't seem to understand how the Petco rewards coupon worked.

I really don't see the problems listed other than perhaps have gone in on bad days or perhaps a personnel shortage or turnover? I had a budgie that passed unexpectedly within a few weeks after purchase and they replaced the bird. I had Teri, who worked well with my Great Pyrenees as a trainer and despite being a Marmaduke and big wild dog the groomers handled him well (no easy task for this breed!), did a great job, and he was happy and watching him get blow dried and brushed where he couldn't see me obviously was enjoying attention as they were giving him treats and rewards. Recently to get a sick cat to the vet my husband grabbed the wrong sized carrier. It was close to closing. I called, explained the situation, asked if they had the larger size, they did, pulled it off the shelf, they did and it was waiting for me up front to make the exchange. That is what I call great customer service. This was done just before their closing time. Was very kind of them to do that for me. Please and thank you goes a long way. I was disappointed in not hearing back from the trainer for getting a refresher course in but they mainly work with pups and 120 lb mountain dog could be unsettling to a lot of folks. read more

Talked to one worker who informed me he's not on the clock and couldn't help me and had a horrible attitude, next employee told me he was busy and walked away, again with a horrible attitude. Ended up not getting my fish. Would not recommend, will not return. read more

If I could leave 0 stars- I would. Multiple times I've been in this store purchasing dog food, I've noticed the dog groomers man handling the dogs. Just today, I saw a dog groomer yanking on a senior dog as the dog was crying and visibly shaken. Please DO NOT take your dogs here to get groomed. They mistreat the dogs. read more

We have used the grooming services here several times over last year or more. They do a decent job. Once they gave our dogs collar and attached tags to someone else. It took a few hours contacting and waiting for other customer to return. All was made right. They have this $7.00 charge that shows up on our bill every time. Nobody can seem to fully explain it. They never have a problem removing it when asked. If they become more expensive for the services I will find someone else or start doing more ourselves. read more

I took my dog here for his grooming appointment, and his haircut looks acceptable and the price was reasonable. That is why there is one star given. He came down with kennel cough after being at the grooming appointment, which is unacceptable. This sickness comes from not keeping a place sanitary. read more

Today I was in Petco purchasing some stuff, and I decided to stop in the groomers to schedule an appointment for my dog. When I walked in there were two ladies working- one handling a phone call, the other working on a little white dogs hair. I stood quietly waiting for the gal to have a chance to speak with me- in the maybe 5 minutes I stood there waiting, the lady grooming had yanked that poor pups fur on her head hard enough the dog cried out- TWICE. I turned and was watching after I heard the first yelp. I do not know anything about grooming- I typically bathe and brush my dog at home but nothing fancy, but the way she was brushing the dogs head was rough enough it was yanking the head around, and he cried out a couple times. She didn't slow down or even acknowledge she had hurt him. He didn't seem to be misbehaving and was sitting still. I know sometimes knots are unavoidable (I have 2 daughters lol) but generally after the pup cries out you'd think you would slow down, or try to be easier, but she didn't even flinch. (I hadn't been there more than 5 minutes so I cannot tell you what else was going on so I might've misunderstood the situation, but it was enough I turned and walked out). read more

This particular location has gone downhill. I used to like going to this location but recently I've been disappointed every time I go to the store. I don't understand how difficult it is to take an algae pad and scrub the algae off of the fish tanks... The tanks look horrible, full of algae and the fish look sickly. The betta cups look as though its been weeks since the last water change. The reptiles look alright health wise but the tanks again look horrible, the glass is always dirty like the employees don't wipe down the glass during regular maintenance. I get that it has been difficult to get livestock, its been like this in every pet store I've gone to but for some reason even the regular supplies are always out. I suppose they rely on the sale of dog and cat food and don't care if their other departments are neglected because I can never find reptile décor or lighting. shelves are always messy and there are always uboats in the aisles, do they not care about presentation??? I know they'll see this and just think I'm just one customer and that it doesn't matter if I shop there, but hopefully they see this and start to care more about the care of their animals which is the most important part. I love petco as a company and I've been to many petcos in other parts of the country, but this one is my local one and I am very disappointed. They have lost my business, and I would have been a loyal customer in every department given that I have cats, dogs, fish, reptiles and small animals. Oh well. read more

The worst place ever!!! 1. The employees no nothing about the animals and give you bad info on how to take care of them. 2. I bought a UVB light for my bearded dragon and it burned out in less than two weeks, I still had the receipt and the original box that it came in, so I took it back to get a refund but was told had to get it on a gift card since I paid cash!!! This was the first time I got Rex groomed in Waco and was unsure of where to take him, but using the Express service with Petco exceeded my expectations! Ellie was SO wonderful! From helping me decide how I wanted Rex (a cockapoo) trimmed to being so sweet and taking her time to do a wonderful job and make my boy look so handsome! I would recommend this Petco groomer to anyone with a dog who may not love the groomer and be a little bit scared of people at first because it was a wonderful experience! read more

The first time I went to get my dogs nails trimmed, in September, was fine. Although I got back home and noticed an entire paw was missed. I called and customer service was very nice (my only reason for giving the second star) and told me that I could bring her back to get it done and the next one would be free. When I go back for the free one, in October, they told me that my rabies was expired back in MAY (which she has had done, they just don't have the paperwork). They never told me this first time I came in and refused me this time and made me leave after I drove all the way there with my dog. Don't know if I will even be going back for the free nail trim. read more

I take my pups here to get grooming all the time and let me tell you I LOVE AUTUMN! Autumn really takes the time to understand the pups and she's just wonderful with them. However, the other groomers not so much. I always book my appointment with Autumn since because the last groomer didn't cut my mini Aussie's hair the way I told her to. Well to be honest, she didn't even cut his hair. We were on our way to visit my mom in Houston and needed to get my pups cleaned before visiting grandma and I wasn't too happy that they didn't even cut his hair. I had recently bought a piece of cat furniture in hopes of getting my cat to use it rather than the couch. That was apparently a pipe dream. I had already thrown away the receipt, and therefore assumed I was now a proud owner of a really large, carpeted paper weight. I took a chance and called the store to see if I had any options. I spoke with LaShaundra (sp?) and asked if they would be able to locate my receipt with the credit card I used. She said it shouldn't be a problem, but transferred me to the manager, Shane, to verify. Huge kudos right there alone, as there have been many times with other stores, that I've been told one thing by an employee and then found out from management that what I was told was not store policy. Shane confirmed they could look up the receipt, asked approximately when I made my purchase and what the last four digits of my credit card were. He stated they were very busy and asked for my name and number so he could look up the receipt and give me a call back when he located it. When he called me back, he said he was able to locate the receipt and the return would not be a problem. He also verified when I would be in with the return in case it was after his shift. He planned on explaining the situation to the night manager if needed. Again, huge kudos, as there have been too many times where there was NO communication between staff at other stores. When I arrived, Shane saw me coming (hard to miss someone trekking INTO the store with a large piece of cat furniture), retrieved the reprinted receipt and handed it off to the cashier so the return would go smoothly. All in all, this experience captures what customer service should look like. They could've easily said that without the receipt, all they could do was give me store credit, but instead, they went above and beyond to guarantee repeat business. read more

This place is horrible! Every time I walk in and look at the animals I always see at least one dead animal if not more. The turtles usually have awful eye infections from infrequent water changes and every fish tank has the a dead half eaten occupant. Dead rodents halfway buried in the bedding and if there isn't a dead ferret it just smells awful from lack of cleaning. reptiles seem to usually look roasted alive and shriveled to a stick figure of what they were. The bird cage is too crowded and often I see injured birds, with toes missing or their feathers mostly gone. The staff seems oblivious or don't care one wit for these animals for when I directed their attention to it they just stand there and mumble something about it not being in their department. Anytime I try to get assistance or advise I was unable to find anyone who could really help me, every single time I went. I still go every so often to see if conditions have improved and in the years it has been around I have seen none so far. It really is a disappointment . read more

Autumn in grooming is amazing. If not for the other groomers, I would give 5 stars. The other groomers are rude, impatient, and very impersonal to myself and my dog. I had a groomer and another staff member be very rude to me. My dog has anxiety which Autumn is always very understanding of and gives him time to acclimate to her. I took him the other day to get groomed and she was not there and a groomer and a staff member completely ignored me when I asked them to let my dog have time to sniff them out and get comfortable and both crouched right down and shoved their hands in my dogs face, causing him to be uncomfortable and bark. I understand that the safety of the groomers is highly important, but given the fact that I advised them on how to handle my dog and ignore him for a few moments and to have them completely ignore me they were very unprofessional and inconsiderate. I believe any accomplished and professional groomer would be trained on how handle most dogs, including dogs with anxiety and fear. Now, I would understand if I had a downright aggressive dog, Petco would not be the place for him. That is not the case. I have a dog with slight anxiety who needs time to acclimate and any decent groomer should be able to have the training and patience to let him acclimate. I have found another groomer who understands my dog needs a few minutes to sniff her out to be comfortable and I would recommend another grooming service to anyone who has a dog with any anxiety at all. Anyone but Autumn at Petco will refuse your service and make you feel like a bad pet owner. read more
