Went to this Petco location to get vaccinations for my dog from Vetco. This was a year ago. I consider what happened there to be unethical. Upon reaching the area in the store where the veterinarian was administering vaccinations, the vet and two staff she'd brought with her suddenly started chasing a 'flea' that 'jumped' off my dog to a table that was ten feet away. One of the assistants quickly ran to said table with a spray bottle and sprayed onto the table. My dog doesn't have fleas. If that were the case, I'd notice fleas in my home and I'd be bitten myself. This was a ploy to get me to pay $100 or more to get flea treatment from the vet and it was unethical AF. Rather than pay the vet for treatment, I bought a product in the store...and I'm kicking myself for doing so. Still no fleas in my home. read more

Brought my dog in for an early appointment at grooming. The staff were friendly but seemed disorganized. It's nice that grooming has an outside door; as the rest of the store is even more disorganized. There are many things that look to be plopped in without any consideration for letting people walk down the aisles. This building needs work. They refused to take my corgi for grooming this week, who's been coming here for YEARS due to a new policy. My dog is on multiple medications, due to health issues for the entirety of her life. None of which have anything to do with seizures (usually the meds they won't take dogs with) my dog literally just needs enzymes to process food properly. I showed up for our appointment, had done pre check in paperwork online days before, only to be told they needed to know details of every medication she's on and then the manager refused to take my dog for grooming due to one. It's literally NEVER been an issue before, the prior time I went in they spoke with a manager about her meds and it was cleared, she went in for grooming. I thought that would be the end to this topic with their "new policy", but this most recent manger this past week refused to have her groomed there. Apparently it depends on who is working if they'll groom your dog or not? ABSURD. Her meds are not a risk whatsoever to staff or other dogs. We will never be coming back, ZERO STARS, beware. read more

I was refused service after years of patronship... They have a "new policy" (which I was later told has been in place for 10+ years?) That if they can't look in my dogs mouth to check all his teeth then they cannot take him. I explained that I've been coming here for a few years now and haven't had a problem. Also, my dog sees a vet frequently and gets regular dental check ups/care. I also was confused that they preform this assessment in a very stimulating environment, the front counter, with other people talking and dogs around. I asked them if they had a quiet place to get to know him and check the things they need to check. They refused and said it's "policy"... Our dog does not mind the groomer here, Santana, who does a lovely job and truly seems to care about him.

Petco requires you to pay before picking up your dog from grooming. Had I seen the poor job they did, I would not have left a tip. Deluxe service meant half an ear missed - perhaps a designer style? Long hairs everywhere, uneven is an understatement. But my dog was clean so who ever shampoos deserves a tip. Worst part about Petco is they changed the rewards system. You can no longer redeem points using a phone number and are required to download their app to get your $5. They need to know every purchase you make on your cell phone, what you search for on google...basically, everything you do on your cell phone is tracked on the Petco app. Again, all for a lousy $5 'reward'. With so many competitors in this segment, there is no reason to shop at Petco. Lackluster grooming and the reward you get for giving goving away your personal shopping history and life's preferences just isn't worth it. read more

Went to see the groomers on July 4th. Katie is a gem and my puppy came home looking fantastic. She was very sweet and helpful. Price was reasonable especially since the pandemic happened and we haven't taken him to be groomed in months. She didn't judge on his condition (I tried to give him a haircut myself and did a terrible job) and was sure that she could get him at an even length. This has got to be the worst grooming my dogs have ever received. Bits and pieces of long hair all over. Choppy and uneven. Only grooming instruction given was a round face, but their faces are far from round. It's almost as if the groomer (Janna) was rushed, although she had my two shih tzu for 3 1/2 hours. On top of a poor haircut, they forget to call me when their ready. Was my first time giving Petco a try, probably the last. One star because they were friendly. read more

They usually have what I need in stock and they are always expanding their inventory so my mommy and I love to come down and see what they have on sale. We wait all year long for their black Friday sales and we didn't leave disappointed. Plenty of parking, clean wide aisles and as always very friendly staff. I'm in Spokane for the weekend. Thought I'd get a gift for my friends cat. I'm giving it three stars because this location primarily focuses on Dogs. Even one of the employees agreed with me it focuses more on dogs. So I'd say if you have dogs. This is the perfect location. The store has isles and isles and more isles of dog toys but only one isle for cat. And most of them were fairly basic toys. However I did find what I was looking for which is an electronic cat toy. Got it home and the cat seems intrigued with it. The store is nice and clean. read more

I went to Petco in North Spokane when she was a puppy and we had a fantastic groomer named grace. Grace left for Excel grooming further north in Spokane and we moved to Yuppy Puppy. I went on vacation for a week and my dog's wool labradoodle coat was extra matted because she did crazy playing and wrestling with her friends. I booked an emergency appointment at Petco South to ensure the soonest comfort for my dog. When I took her on Monday, I was met with Santana. Santana was almost immediately hostile and would not listen to anything I said. I was hoping to keep my dogs tail and head from being clipped short and she told me how it was gonna be. Told me she'd never use scissors on a mat because it's too dangerous. She also told her manager that I wouldn't let her cut the body short. We had never discussed length of body hair at that point. Her hostility made my dog extra nervous and she approached and removed my dogs collar prior to any greeting and said she was fine because she wagged her tail. I should have never left her there, but I was desperate for her to have comfort. When I left I told them to do what they needed and they didn't need to call. They called and after saying that the tail could be saved I got a voicemail saying my dogs whole body had to be clipped as short as their clippers allowed. I told them I didn't want a surgical clip (which leaves no hair) because it irritates my dog. They told me their short clip was surgical, which is not true because I have had her hair cut short. Ten minutes after the first call I got another call which I missed because it was soon after I left and my dog is normally at the groomer for 3 hours. I called and they refused to clip her after I pointed out that I told her that I told them to do what they needed. After Santana was so hostile I shouldn't have left my dog. You'd think an actually skilled groomer would know when they couldn't clip a dog. The last message I received was that they looked with a blow dryer. She is matted and it is very clear without a dryer. I took her to Petsmart on the South hill to buy clippers and the groomers apprentice was extremely polite and gave me tips to get by. The grooming manager showed up and inspected the situation and immediately fit us in the next day and we immediately had a polite and non-judgmental plan. We have only ever had two bad grooming experiences and they were both at Petco. We have spent a lot of money at Petco and I will never spend another dime there. Santana is by far the worst customer service person I have ever encountered at a pet store, and probably any store. Never leave your loved ones with a person who starts of condescending and hostile. read more

My wife paid for an order for some cat food using the curbside service. When she got to the store, a young man informed her that they were unable to give her the purchase because they were having technical issues. She told them that she could show them proof or purchase by showing them her banking statement, and were still unwilling to help her. Bare in mind she had our 4 month old son in the car. Shame on you Petco Grooming. Trying to assign a "special condition" to my 8 year old Shepard...a dog you should know well as she comes often. You said she's having trouble standing and if she won't stand you'll have to come pick her up. So I start reading the "special condition" and said I don't think I should sign this. You said I won't groom your dog. I said ok I don't agree with you and initialed it. And she states I won't groom your dog I'm not going to argue with you. At this point it's clear she just doesn't want to groom the dog. I said you aren't a vet and I know there isn't anything wrong with my dog. And this is wrong. I want to speak to your manager (because I felt this needed to be brought to someone's attention and there was no way I was leaving my dog there at this point) Which was a waste of everyone's time...What a ridiculous system. There is nothing wrong with my dog...she runs around and jumped easily in and out of the car. It's an excuse to not groom my dog or do a half ass job. I won't be back. I understand the job isn't easy and I tip over 20%. But I'm not an idiot and don't think because she's having a Monday that it's allowed for her to make up "conditions" so she doesn't have to work. read more

I'm not at all impressed by the selection at this store. Its small and seems to be devoted to dogs. And every time I'm in there it seems that there aren't enough people working there. I waited in a line for about 15 minutes because there was only one cashier. She kept calling for someone to come up and help and no one came. Not well managed. Pros: Gets a new shipment of fish every week so you can get some healthy fish if you go at the beginning of the week. Cons: A lot of unhealthy fish and is highly recommended to quarantine the fish before introducing them to your fish at home. Staff is also not knowledgeable and often give wrong information without realizing it. Small selection of animals. read more

I will certainly not be going back EVER! Today I went in after WEEKS of waiting for shipment to buy 1 guppy for my daughter. 1! The fish lady first asked me to wear a mask, in which I replied I have a medical condition and will not. She said we will have to social distance and I complied. I asked " How many fish is recommended for a 2 gallon tank?" She said the rule of thumb is 1" per gallon. I said OK, I would like to get 1 guppy. She said "I wont sell you one." I said I only have one fish in there and it's smaller than the guppy! She said no, so I went up to the front to purchase the rest of my things and asked for a manager. The check out girl was the manager and I said your fish girl wont sell me 1 guppy. She preceded to tell me again the 1" "recommendation" and said if she felt like she shouldn't sell me a fish then she didn't have to, and also that my fish would grow. A fish I have had for three years that has never grown. This is a crock! I worked at pet-smart, I'm NOT a novice fish owner, and never in my life have I been denied the sale of a fish let alone a tiny guppy let alone 1 fish when I have 1 FISH which by the way is full grown and 1/2 an inch long so even by their math I had room for 1 guppy. I'm appalled. I decided to make my purchase but went to pet-smart and got all the things I needed anyways plus a fish plus 2 snails for free... so I returned the product to Petco. You will NOT get our business. I can not believe you denied a grown adult 1 fish! By the way the 2 Gallon fish tank I bought from Petco has a picture on the box with6 full grown fish on it! read more

I've been using Petco grooming service for years. Doogy and Brandy are the 4th and 5th family pets Petco has cared for. Easy to schedule, Petco seems to keep comprehensive records. They know my pets and the service I prefer. When I have questions about skin conditions Petco people have answers and suggestions. I've used a few independent groomers over the years. I've been happy with their services but they all seem to close or move. Petco has been great and stable. read more

Since the store has been remodeled there has also been a shift in the way they deal with customers. I have had nothing less than amazing service the moment I walk in. They are willing to do whatever it takes to have you walk out the door happy and with everything you need for your pets. This store has great a good selection of salt water fish and has some corals. Fish generally come in on thurseday. The head of the fish department is very knowledgable and there are a few other. If you wonder about their knowledge base ask them about their tanks several employees have tanks. read more

I took my dog in to be bathed and brushed in early November. I told them she had some mats on her leg "feathers." Without even looking at my dog, the girl who was going to do the job offered to shave her. I declined, since it was, after all, early November. She told me there might be some brush burn on my dog's legs, but she'd be as careful as possible. (I had never even heard of 'brush burn' before, so I looked it up when I got home--it happens when someone is overly aggressive with the brush to the point it damages the dog's skin.) The day after my dog was groomed, I noticed that her back and body were *covered* with scabs! I called to complain and was told to bring her back in "to see if there was anything they could do to make her more comfortable" and to give me my money back. I took her in and was met by the girl who had done the damage and a manager. They both went on the attack, claiming my dog had been covered with mats (absolutely not true) and reminding me she had offered to just shave her. They would not budge in their insistence that this was really all my fault. I did get my money back, but only after speaking to a different manager. In my opinion, if a groomer realizes she can't brush a dog without torturing it, she should call the owner and cancel the grooming. I will NEVER take another animal into Petco Grooming again. I wish I could leave negative stars. The follow-up is that now the scabs have come loose and tangled in my dog's fur, creating a mass of mats over her body. She is also now afraid of the brush. I work with her a little bit each day, but when the weather warms up, I'll have to take her to someone who knows what she or he is doing to have her shaved. read more

My regular groomer was booked for months out and my dog needed a groom, so I thought I would try Petco. When scheduling I was given three choices for the date I needed: 9AM, 11AM, or 12PM. I most definitely chose 12PM and immediately scheduled it in my calendar. I arrived at Petco just before 12PM and the groomer said "Oh, your appointment was actually at 11:30. Normally I would try to fit you in, but I've got to go to lunch". I assured her my appointment was scheduled for 12, and she shrugged her shoulders and said sorry. I walked out completely frustrated, not only because they messed up my appointment, but the 11:30 appointment was not even mentioned to me as a possibility when scheduling. I got in my car and called PetSmart down the road. They were able to get my dog in within a half hour. They were incredibly kind and competent, my dog looks great, I tipped the groomer 40%, and I will forever be a customer of PetSmart. They sure know how to do customer service AND manage to take lunch breaks. read more
