Sorry to say that Petco is way below average. They usually have only one employee out on the floor to help customers including the fish selections. That takes much time since they have to net them, bag them and write the prices on the bags. A customer could have to wait a very long time for assistance. There is usually only one cashier so depending on time of day a customer might have to wait behind 8 or more other customers. I used to shop for fish there but between the poor quality of the fish and the long wait times I do not spend my money at Petco anymore. read more

I have owned saltwater or freshwater tanks for the better part of 20 years and honestly dread going into Petco to look at or buy fish, but with a 5 year old, it's the experience that makes me come back. Today our 50 gallon freshwater tank was ready for a whole new school. Kendall, a member of Petco's staff, was eager to help. I have so many great things to say about her. She is excited and happy to help, she is incredibly knowledgeable about all things aquatic. She knows and likes the fish and encouraged us to build a school of gouramis, cichlids, African frogs, and angels. I hate giving bad reviews but I feel ppl need to be aware when ordering online to deliver at your house. Long story short: I will not be using this service. It is better to buy and pick up in store. I was aware doordash delivered and I left specific information for the carrier only to find out it's the wrong address they delivered. I couldn't contact the driver so I called the store. I was hung up before I said anything so I had to call again and be on hold. The employee told me I had to call doordash since they could not do anything. Side note: I understand Petco does not have access however this is an extremely inconvenience. Now I need to call another number? Anyways I call DoorDash and the lady told me I would be refunded since it was delivered to the wrong address. Come 3 -5 business days later: nothing. I called DoorDash and they told me they cannot issue refunds and I would have to call the store.... Literally last week the employee from Petco told me they cannot do this and DoorDash customer from my first call told me I would get my refund. So now I'm being lied to on both ends. I found another petco number for the online orders and turns out I needed to call them to issue a refund. A incredibly crappy and uncomfortable customer experience with the Manager Adella. So, I have a box and a bag of cat food to return that I had purchased the previous week. I had called ahead to confirm I could return the items. So, I go to Petco and I give the checkout worker my number and it didn't work, even though I know for a fact it was the one I used the previous week. So confused we try again to no avail, so I give the employee my mom's number. It also didn't work. We try a few more times with no success. We then tried a receipt my mom gave me which was the wrong one. The worker calls over the manager who is all ready clearly annoyed. She ask me for my number and we go through the same process. She tells me it's not working and then ask me, "Why didn't you give us your number when you bought it?" I just stare at her for a moment confused because I already told them I know I used my number so I retell that I know I used mine. She looks back down at the computer and does her typing and then she gives the most sour fake smile I've ever seen in my life and goes, "Next time, give us your number on your next purchase." I calmly but firmly restate that I had. She goes silent again going back to the computer. Too long of a moment later she hands me a receipt (it was a card for store credit) and stacks the returns on the counter and says have a nice day with her annoyed low effort smile again. This manager doesn't even explain what she just handed me, she clearly wanted me gone. Mind you I had been relaxed and respectful when spoken to this whole time. At this point I'm confused and frazzled, I go to grab the items that she just stacked because I'm on anxious autopilot and then she QUICKLY grabs them says something on the lines of "No. These stay here." Embarrassed I quickly apologized and left. That was truly an incredibly uncomfortable and downright unfriendly experience. I don't ever want to go back to that location. She tried to make me feel like I was doing something wrong and sneaky. I hope the proper measures are taken with this manager. I work in customer service myself and I would never treat a customer that way, especially one that had been cooperative and mellow. Her tactic is a great way to not make people want to come back. I only gave 2 stars because the guy who had first helped me was very kind. read more

Beware; POOR GROOMING BUSINESS PRACTICES- NEGLECT On 10/10/22 I took my dogs to get groomed. The attendant was very judicious at reviewing that both of my dogs had all the necessary documentation to get groomed. When I arrived; I was asked to return in another 45 min. As I returned 45 min later, I saw a man placing my dogs into his car. I immediately stopped him and grabbed my dogs. He claimed that the attendant had given him my dogs. I returned to the store and the attendant stated that she thought I had sent this man to pick up my dogs. I asked her if she has been as judicious with asking for an ID or proof that these were his dogs. The man stated that he was there to pick up "his friends dog" (how could you not know what dogs belong to your friend?).... I asked the attendance to check if there were other dogs left; she stated only mine were let so she released them to the man. The manager came and said that he would he would follow up with me on the next business day. Keep in mind that no apology, or explanation was given to me. My dogs are like my children... Words cannot explain the trauma I experienced seeing my dogs in another persons car... Had I arrived 1-minute later; I would have never found my dogs and PETCO would have not taken responsibility for their failure to ensure that my puppies were returned to me. It is 10/11 and no one from Petco has called or even apologized for the incident. I still do not know what happened and am shocked at how nonchalant the attendant was when I confronted her... she didn't care! The man had also paid cash for the grooming so there was no way of tracking him down had he mistakenly taken my dogs. Just beware of the way this place operates. I feel that they need to take an extra step to ensure that this never happens again. read more

Cashier told me that the viral care "can be cancelled anytime" and that there was no obligations but failed to say "there is a one year payment commitment per month" and that the cancellation anytime cancels automatic renewal but they still charge monthly. DISHONEST EMPLOYEE "EMILY" was the one helping me out with this sale, I would avoid this place. When signing up for vital care she took the phone from me to "finish signing up" and therefore I never saw any sections stating annual commitment. I do not blame the employees for how much this place sucks, but they definitely don't help the state of things with their total inability answer a single question I've ever asked across the many trips I've taken to this godforsaken place. I have only been able to procure crickets there once and they died by the end of the day. I am happy to report that regardless of their proximity to Trader Joe's, I will never be returning to this highly frustrating place. I recently got a new bearded dragon I've have 3 and I got one from this store and it dies 4 days later come to find out the store got a "bad batch" as a young lady said they had perisides so I got a new one no change. So I go and get crickets regularly from this place and I started noticing after I got them the next day 70% of them would be dead. I went over and got some crickets from Petsmart up on Golden Valley and they lasted a whole week. I know crickets aren't supposed to last long but longer than a day would be nice. read more

We have a sick pet at home and were looking for a certain shampoo that Petco has that has great reviews and could help our sick animal. Today we had a horrible experience here regarding that item. Good luck getting some help here. We asked for an item to be checked for while paying at the register for other items and the cashier (young man) refuse to check for us. His response was "the line is too long". The line behind us only has a few customers in it and there was a few registers opened. Not a great answer nor great customer service. Why offer a soothing and gentle bath for dogs with skin conditions, if you won't take a dog with a hot spot? The stylist, Ally, I think, couldn't have been less interested in actually doing her job, and the manager, Ron, looked dejected and useless. The grooming receptionist was on my side and obviously would've taken my dog if it was up to her. The other manager was clearly ok with it too, but Ally probably had to start her holiday weekend early, and wanted to leave. I understand if my dog had an open wound or something but the reason I was taking him in, is because his skin is irritated and he needs a bath. They used to have good stylists here, in Mya and Lisa, and one other girl I forgot her name, but they've obviously moved to better pastures. Don't blame them. Petco corporate needs to reevaluate this store, as they've just gotten worse and worse over the years. This rating is not actually for Petco but the groomer who worked on Archie this morning at 10AM, Mar 4, 2022. This was in Petco Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita. Archie was originally scheduled for 2:30PM today but he called yesterday that I should re-schedule Archie in the morning of the next day. That was no issue with me. I got a call around 1PM that I should pick up Archie in 20 minutes. I told him I am too far for me to arrive in 30 minutes. He in fact disrupted my plan and he should not be demanding for me to pick him up right away. When I picked up Archie, the groomer told me that he bit the brush and other things during the grooming process. Therefore, PETCO (his own words) will not accept Archie anymore. I answered, It is fine. I don't want to exchange words with him. I paid $99 for Archie's grooming and haircut. Archie has been groomed with PETCO for 10 years (Petco Van Nuys and Petco Granada Hills). They never mentioned anything like that. As if he owns or is a manager of PETCO, he blacklisted Archie and can not go there anymore for his grooming or haircut. Well, Petco just lost a customer. I give generous tip too, but I did not give him a penny when he said that. I could have given "zero" star but it is not possible. read more

I am an extreme fish lover and keeper. I have been going here for years now and I have never been satisfied with the fish department staff until now. Lupe is FANTASTIC. Not only is he so wonderful as a person, but he is beyond educated about all fish related topics. He also genuinely cares about my fish and asks me every time how they are doing. He has personally saved my fish more than once when they were sick because he knew exactly how to cure them. He is also honest about everything. I hope Petco never lets him go because I'm still a customer only because of him. I thank him for his knowledge, kindness, and compassion. I was starting to lose control of my puppy boy (I'm a first time dog mom), so we went in and signed our frenchie up for dog training. Madison has been the absolute best with assisting my daughter and I in training our pup. He's learned so much and we love taking him in walks now at the park now that she's also assisted us with teaching him to walk straight by us in the leash. I had to pick up some dog food the other day and wasn't too impressed with the layout of the store. It got the feel of a warehouse, cold and open, but the way the aisles were organized wasn't convenient. And just because it's a pet supply store dosn't mean it has to be all dark and cold. The parking lot is also not easy to get into, mainly due to the Trader Joes but that doesn't help things for Petco. The clerks were friendly so I'll give them that. I come here to get the Blue Buffalo food for my little baby girl who loves it and it is really good for her. I wouldn't dare feed a dog food from the grocery store ever and I am not a super freak about buying vegan, soy dog food from the mountains of the Himalayas for my dog either. Petco carries Blue Buffalo and also a couple of other things that are harder to find. Merricks lamb lung treats for one...hey don't knock them until you try them, my baby goes nuts when she gets her treat. I also buy a medicated shampoo that I haven't been able to find at Petsmart that does really good work with my dog who get dry skin during the summer months. Walked up to an employee who was having a conversation with another customer about her service dog and I politely said, "hi, sorry I don't mean to interrupt but do you...."
