I've been a long time customer to this store. I had an even exchange that I was asking for. I lost my receipt. I didn't want a refund, just an even exchange. The manager said they couldn't do it without a receipt. You'd think that since I'd been shopping there pretty much since they opened that they'd want to help. This store is always clean and when you can actually find someone to help you they are quite knowledgeable. I take my dog to get his nails clipped and Jenny always does a great job, she has total patience for my enthusiastic labrador :) I would definitely recommend this Petco. read more

I use this Petco to purchase cat food, litter, automatic litterbox cartridges, crickets, fish, fish tank filters, fish food, tortoise food, cat toys, dog toys, dog food...really everything that I need for all my lovely pets. I always find what I'm looking for and more. I never have trouble getting assistance when I need it. I'm often greeted when I walk in. check out is fast. Prices are reasonable. The pets seem healthy and well cared for. I have only bought fish from this location. They have a good variety of foods for my finicky cat. I often buy new collars for my cats and dog and they always have a changing selection. Not really much complaints. I do find some items at Petsmart that I cannot find here, which is the reason for my 4 vs 5 stars. read more

We have been taking our dogs to get groomed here for years. We have always requested Karen, because she is amazing. One of our dogs is really easy, but the other one is very nervous around new people. One day Karen wasnt there, so my wife told the girl to let him feel you out for a while until he gets comfortable with you. The girl disregarded my wifes instructions, she reached for the dog, who snapped at her and now we cant take the dog there anymore. I have been in and out of this location of Petco a number of times over the past several years, it's in a really convenient location off Las Posas, and have never had anything but great things to say about it. The staff is friendly and helpful, I've never felt like I was interrupting when I needed help finding things and the wait either for help with fish or to make a purchase is always short. The associates there are even patient with my children has they make the all-important decisions on which fish they want or the color for Roxy's new collar and leash. I've only had a single less than perfect visit, and it wasn't even bad, just less than perfect. The last time I was there, making a return, the associate at the cash register was new and needed help to complete the return, and the manager was called away, a dog had wandered in to the store by itself, in the middle of the transaction. The manager gave the instructions to the clerk and then went to find the dog and apparently the owner, while the clerk finished the transaction. Only the clerk forgot a step, having overheard the instructions, I was able to fill him in on the missing step and he was able to complete the return. I'm not saying anything was wrong, I don't feel upset by the situation, but it was an odd visit, different from their usual impeccable customer service. read more

Never again - Took dog in for grooming. Had appointment, 6 hours later I showed up and when inquiring, they BEGAN cutting the dogs hair. All four women were rude. The manager said she couldn't do anything and said they were really busy. Kept my dog locked up for better than 5 hours in a kennel and charged me 60 bucks. On the bright side, after complaining to the manager, she offered me a $5 coupon I could use on my next visit, but alas, she never gave it to me as she said they are calling for me on the loud speaker. I was just in the grooming salon the other day and was completely surprised with how knowledgeable and friendly the staff is. They did a great job on my dog and helped me find a food just right for my dog. I couldn't find any one on the floor to help so one of the girls went out and helped. They made me feel like my dog was part of their family. Ill definitely be going back. My only two complaints are the lack of people on the floor and the dirty bathrooms. read more

This review is strictly for their Grooming Department. I wanted to give my dog a bath prior to leaving her with a dogsitter for the weekend and thought a cheap, easy solution would be to use the self-service dog wash to do the work myself. This location is minutes from my house so I stopped in on a Tuesday evening at about 7:15pm. The Grooming Department was closed and apparently someone from their department must be present to use the self-service dog wash. While it's inconvenient, I understood. I asked the clerk at the register what the Grooming Department's hours were and he said "Oh, it's pretty much whenever they want. Your best bet if you want to use the self-service washes is to call and make an appointment. If they know you have an appointment to come use it, someone will be here." So I call the next day and explain what I need and ask if I can make an appointment (was hoping to come in at 6:30pm) and was told "You don't need an appointment for the self-service washes, just come in whenever but - HEY! WHAT TIME YOU LEAVIN'?.....We're closing at 5 tonight so you have to come in before that." While I can understand having an employee on hand if you're using their services, maybe they should think about putting the self-service washes either outside of the Grooming Department, or get their employees to work a set schedule that's convenient to people who work during the day and don't get to come and go from work as they please. Either way, I won't be stopping in here again. read more

Love the store, it's my go to for all my babies needs, but no soo much the grooming. They're a little over priced and for some reason I left with a bigger bill than originally quoted. My baby was super frightened when I picked her up, but it could have just been all the other pups there or being in a kennel waiting for me. Her cut was not what I had specified, but it was my first time trying them out on grooming so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Will definitely continue using them for goodies and such, but not for grooming. read more

This place is horrible. My son and and I went to purchase a female guinea pig last Friday. First off, the service was very unfriendly and I felt like I was really putting them out when I asked if my son and I could hold the guinea pig. Needless to say we left with our new pig, but for unknown reasons, the following evening the pig ended up dead in our cage. I took it back and explained what happened and the General Manager of the store pretty much told me that it was our fault and then she refused to sell us another pig. I informed her the cage we had was brand new and clean, and the same-sized, very calm and loving female pig we had in the cage with her was always very friendly to our other pigs. She absolutely REFUSED to sell us another Guinea Pig, pretty much implying that we were morons and murderers, a common way most Petco customers are subliminally treated by the staff. She was the most disrespectful & verbally abusive person I have ever met in my life. She told me that Petco's policy was that they place the animal's well being before the customer's needs. (Her words, no joke). This would be a great preventative measure with people who abuse animals, but 99% of the people who come into Petco are decent, animal lovers, so their policy is really pointless, and will probably end up costing them a ton of business in the future considering some animals have sicknesses that are never detected early on and end up dying prematurely. I can guarantee you we will never shop at a Petco store again. I recommend "Kahoots Pet Store" where we have purchased many "still living" animals before. Kahoots policy is that they put the customer's needs before the animals, like it should be. Most common, decent people are not animal abusers. Most people, like my fiancée and I want to purchase animals for our enjoyment as well as our kid's enjoyment. By the way, didn't catch her name, but she is the general manager of the San Marcos Petco store. She wears glasses and has brown hair with a slim build. Avoid this stereotypical, ignorant, moronic woman at all costs! In fact...avoid Petco in general! read more

Poor Fish selection, tanks are poorly maintained. Poor selection for tank accessories. Shelves were empty the last time. just about every tank has a dead fish in it. We registered our dog for the Adult Dog 1 training class and her trainer is Sarah. A young woman with attitude. The first class was ok as the dogs were barking the whole hour and Sarah didn't need to do much which is good for her. Second lesson. It was in the evening. My dog was already tired and she was alone there and Sarah told us to train Lucy to sit and not guiding us so much.Lucy was not focusing as there were lots of music and meowing going on in the store. After 20mins she send us home. I asked her if there is another class which is earlier, she mentioned on Saturday at 3pm. I was looking forward for that day as maybe Lucy will do better. This time I took my husband with me, At 3pm , no one was there. A associate passed by and we asked her if the class is on. She told us that Sarah is having her lunch. My husband and I looked at each other, what service is this? After 5 mins, she came out still chewing on her food. I asked her if the class is still on, she just said " Yes". Any apologies that she was late.. " NO". I asked again if anyone is coming for the class. " Possible" That's what we got from her. Lucy was alone again. She told my husband, go ahead and train her with sit. She stood there, crossed her legs and went into her "break mode". She was not very informative what we should do. We were loosing our patients and I could feel from my husband. She asked us if Lucy been to the groomers and we told her once. She said that Lucy might be afraid of the groomers. My husband said no as there was a dog with the groomer and she was distracted. She tried about 5 mins to train Lucy but it didn't work. She didn't said much , finally my husband told her it is not working and like to have the refund. She didn't say much and took her file and opened the door and kicked it with her foot. A sign of madness, frustration. She took my husband to the register and didn't say a word of regret that it didn't work out. Honestly, we are so happy that we are out of there!!!!!! She need some customer service and more on dog training.. No wonder there are no dogs going to her training class!!!! read more

Took my dog to this location of Petco to have her bathed, groomed. When I brought her home I got her out of the back seat of my car and realized there was blood all over my back seat. ALL of her nails they trimmed were bleeding! I called them and they basically said that's normal! I had to hold tissues to each nail and apply corn starch to get them to stop bleeding! I will never take any pet to this location again! There was also blood on her chest and I have no idea what that is from! read more

Duff is a 1.5 year old 75 lb border collie/newfoundland mix. He generally hates getting his nails trimmed. I finally decided to try to take him to a groomer. Duff had never been to a groomers before in his life and Page at this Petco's grooming service did an AMAZING job. He wriggled a bunch and really didn't want his nails done. Page was super patient and did a great job of keeping the situation calm and under control. She did a really great job with Duff's black nails, which can often be tricky. She also went ahead and gave him a quick trim and he looks great. Thanks so much Page for a great first groomers visit!! read more

I come here only because it's the closest. I always buy 30 crickets.. Every other store I go to, they always give me just a handful. Here the blonde women literally looks like she counts every little cricket in the bag. Which I get I ordered 30 crickets but honestly your going to count every single one, especially when you selling each one for 0.15 not cheap.. LLL sells 20 crickets for $1.00 and even then they give you so much! You guys should try this read more

I just recently adopted a dog (Fred) from the local shelter and brought him into the Petco groomer and and the most pleasant experience w/the mgr--Devon. She gave my mom & me alot of helpful tips on adopted dogs (food, vitamins, vet visits, & lots more!). She even went out into the store & showed me where all this stuff was!! If you are ever considering getting your dog groomed @ Petco and have any problems Devon (manager) will definitely handle them with her expertise and poise plus her kindness towards animals! Dog self wash is really bad, very messy and they only allow you to use the cold air dryer, you are left in the dirtiest spot available, all others (that are a little less dirty) are reserved for grooming services. Avoid using their bath services. Go to a Petco unleashed instead. read more

I had a horrible experience two times at the grooming department. I made an appointment that I had to wait on hold for at least 20 minutes. Then on the day of my appointment they cancelled on me an hour before. I had arranged for someone to drop my dog off since I was working and couldn't get a hold of them. They brought my dog in at my scheduled time and they refused to groom her. In fact, my neighbor needed to go to sprouts and asked if she could just leave the dog there for 10 minutes due to their inconvenience and they said no. The last time they took over 6 hours to wash my dog because they said someone was sick. They need to hire more people for these types of situations. The customers shouldn't have to be inconvenienced because of their lack of organization. I talked to store manager and she was very rude to me and never apologized. They lost my business and I told her but she didn't seem to care. I would give zero stars if I could for very poor customer service. read more

Love petco and their unleashed by petco stores as well. I always take my dog to their grooming salon here and and am very specific about what I want done because he is a long haired Siberian husky and sheds a lot, but more so during the spring and summer time. Never really had a problem with the groomers here as long as I tell them in detail what j want done and they usually finish in a decent amount of time. It's about roughly $71 to get my husky trimmed, nails clipped, shampooed with flea and tick treatment. All in all they are pretty reasonably priced for all the stuff they do when they groom him compared to competitors. I also buy my dog his good and treats here. I only buy him blue buffalo dog treats and blue buffalo wilderness dog food from either here or one of their unleashed by petco locations. The staff is also really helpful here to. The cashier at the fronts name's "Secret". Really nice girl with customers and animals and super cute. I'll keep on going to Petco cause of their awesome grooming, selection of dog food, treats, you'd and awesome employees like Secret!! read more
