Love the store. They had lots of birds and fish and even some mice and guinea pigs. They were all adorable. Went in for some medication for Mrs Meow - was very efficiently helped. Great staff here. Meanwhile I couldn't help but wander and dream of all the great stuff they had here. I'd love an upgraded cat tree and so many other things that were beautiful here. My kitty usually gets generous presents around the holidays - so I think it might be best to see what is missing and come back after the holidays. The check out line was outstanding. Tiny line that moved quickly. Very efficient. Store was clean but if anything I think a deep clean of the floors in the corners by the shelves would bump this up to 5 stars perfection. read more

Everyone in Petco is nice and seems to know what they are doing. We've been going to this location for like 20 years on and off. We have a new dog and got him enrolled in the Canine Good Citizen program. The person in charge of it (Mya) did an amazing job. We have been around the block in the dog training world and we both felt that she really knows her stuff and is good with both people and dogs. Overall we have great experiences in this store and are still regular customers. read more

When will Petco stop putting profit over the lives of animals? Most people don't know that massive numbers of animals die in the breeding mills that supply petco, during shipping to their store, and of course at the store itself. When they die, an employee told me, the company just write it off, if animals arrive sick or dead, which many do, the company gets a refund. Treating animals like merchandise is costing them their lives. If that wasn't horrifying, it gets worse, these "exotic pets" stores like Petco are selling are literally wildlife. These parakeets, hermit crabs, snakes, turtles, geckos, fishes - these are not domesticated animals, these are animals (regardless of if they are bred in captivity or wild caught which some are) who have instincts and needs we can't properly accommodate and as a result most "exotic pets" (wildlife) die within the first year after being purchased, many other end up dumped outside or dumped at rescues. If anyone wants to care for an animals DO NOT buy animals from stores like Petco. ADOPT from a local rescue or shelter. read more

This is my neighborhood Petco. Out of convenience this is where we go to get food, treats and get groomed. I love the convenience of booking appointments through the app. All the groomers I've worked with have been great. They also offer dog training. The store itself is well stocked, if it's not in the store they suggest ordering on the app. Every time I come the staff is very helpful. The 3 star rating is because the prices are so high that I end up looking for the same thing on Amazon or Cheewy for my dogs. Overall it's a good pet store. read more

they messed up my account., and the managers. Here are not as knowledgeable as I felt they could be, but they tried their best but someone here still merged my account with someone else's and it was not giving me my points and I my dog has been coming here for 2 to years and they don't say she just started coming in February. It makes no sense but the Customer Service is lacking. Well update the account has been fixed. My dog received an excellent bath and their back up to their Fivestars. read more

Had to come here after yet another display of sheer incompetence at the SF Potrero Hill location and the difference is STAGGERING. I've never even been offered help at the SF one, but 2 different staff checked in with me on my first visit today within 5 minutes. They also had what I was looking for, what a concept! Definitely recommend. read more

This is ONLY for their grooming service! I've found my new "it" spot to take my dog for his haircut every 2 months! It's way cheaper than Mudpuppy's on Castro, plus you get your 8th groom for free if you use their app's punch card! Not to mention, there's the occasional 20% off coupon they throw your way! Shoutout to VONCE, she's great! The only negative? They refused to work on my elderly dog who's 17. I get it, old dogs are fragile and there's liability issues... but I still wish they would have. I didn't need some extravagant haircut for her, I just wanted her washed and shaved. Unrelated to the grooming service - it does make me sad that Petco sells birds as pets. There are SO MANY birds who need a home, so try to adopt rather than buy! Speaking of which... A shameless PSA: Mickaboo is the biggest bird rescue org in the Bay Area. If you adopt from them, you can also pick out a bird where you know the history of, and it can already be tame and friendly to humans. I hate corporate pet stores, they're awful and cruel. Sensitive, emotional, delicate pets like birds don't get the interactions they deserve, and they're basically in solitary confinement for a long time until they get purchased. It's sad and cruel and absolutely terrible. I hope Petco does away with selling birds and those poor Betta fish in the tiny plastic containers. read more

I booked fundamentals classes for our dog Tumtum at Petco. I give this group class 5/5 stars! Maya the trainer has been a life changer. I'm so happy we signed up for this class because it's so much better than doing online classes. Maya is really patient and very knowledgeable about dog training and all kinds of dog behaviors. Our dog is super energetic and jumpy and he's gotten a lot better with listening, staying, and being calm. It's still a work in progress. We are now in the advanced classes and look forward to learning more. I highly recommend booking classes with Maya! read more

Terrible Petco. The vet double dosed my pups vaccines , charged me for it and are refusing to reimburse me. The vets at this clinic are scammers and the management does not care. UPDATE: whoever works here stated below that I was called and they left a message and that is a bold faced lie. I spoke with customer service AGAIN and they said my case was closed. The employees are exceptionally service-oriented and pleasant and the shelves are well-stocked with a variety of pet products. (Except Fancy Feast canned food of which there was almost none except a few cans of salmon flavored kitten food. Weird.) In addition to the missing canned food the store is terribly organized. It's not organized by species but by item category.. sort of? I ended up spending $135 on food, toys, another litter box, litter for an adorable young cat at an adoption fair Petco held for the non-profit cat rescue Give Me Shelter. And, the cat turned out to be the littermate of a young cat I adopted in February. It's like a good melon: When you know, you know. PS Free parking in the strip mall's parking lot, bonus! read more

Very frustrated. I have been a customer for many years. I have a subscription for my dog food. This month I was shocked to see about a $100 increase. Sorry long review lol. She comes back smelling really nice but i think the blow dryer or maybe the water is too hot or something or they're not drying all the way? I took her to a Chinese groomer just to test and see. She was out in 25 minutes after and her skin looks so much better. It's less greasy and dandruffy. Her diet has stayed the same. She also started smelling a lot faster after Petco did it, their perfume smell that was on her after was very very strong but then wore off quicker. Here they said Gretchen was a problem and we were confused. Maybe she developed something we were thinking. We asked how she did at the Chinese place, they said no problem, she was even licking the lady and wagging her tail. Pictures even to show us. Petco, yeah good luck. Go somewhere smaller, they put trainees here and they'll mess up your dog. She no longer scratches to blood as well. Sucks since I had a routine going but the Chinese place will do much better anyway. Cheaper too!! The store inside in amazing. It's pretty clean and easy to find most items. The employees are amazing, I love this one guy who rang me up, I think in his 60s? He was very sweet and asked me about my day and didn't rush and speak fast to get me going out of the store even though there was a line. He was smiling and working consistently making no mistakes as I saw and the other cashier was running out of paper and deleting phone numbers because the typed it wrong. Overall store 4/5 and grooming 2/5. read more

Do not go here to get your dog groomed, they don't treat people well and they don't treat dogs well either. Read below for more details. I understand that they lost a groomer, but they canceled an appointment on me the night before it was supposed to happen, that I booked two months out. No offer of compensation, no offer to try and reschedule me in a different store, just the offer to reschedule, which I could do myself in the app. My last three appointments which I had scheduled for 8 AM were always late. I was always waiting for them to open up the doors around 20 minutes late. I was typically flagging down a cleaner to open the doors. Why would you have an 8 AM appointment, if you can't be open at that time. And then I would get calls to pick up my dog at around 3 PM, one time as late as 5PM. I've been having her groomed for a long time and seven hours for a grooming is insane. Pretty sure she was just left somewhere sitting all day, because she's a very sweet and mild mannered dog. Very happy to never be coming back here. I would advise you to do the same. read more

Nothing against the groomers. They were very respectful. But I was told once I arrived that they couldnt take my dog because I had given her calming medication. I asked why this was not communicated beforehand and the response was "we have no way of telling you until we ask each specific owner when they arrive" Sorry is it the 1800s so communication has to go by carrier pigeon? It could be as simple as a message on the booking site alerting you to this policy. SO MANY dogs take various medications these days and ESPECIALLY for stressful situations like grooming. Thanks for wasting my time, Petco. read more

I think they recruit their workers from bus stations or from the tenderloin. I called. I asked if they have something he said yes. I asked for size. He said some are big some are small. I pointed out that this doesn't tell me a thing! I asked for it's size, the diameter. He said he didn't know. I suggested looking at it. He still couldn't/wouldn't say. I tried to dumb down my question even further and this still didn't help, he was still not comprehending such a simple question! If a worker can't even answer such an elementary question does PetCo really think we should trust them with our animals? read more

Got these for our fur baby's birthday. Had a family member pick it up after work. Noted that the cashier/help desk was super inefficient as they were confused even after presenting my name and their name. I've been coming here for a long time and have always had a great experience consistently even though sometimes when they are busy can be overwhelming for some people. I went here yesterday to have my dog groomed and remembered a kind gesture a team member did when my dog was still a pup that deserved a 5 star feedback. When I first got our puppy before the pandemic I decided to pick up some toys. I brought my puppy in and put him in the cart. The gentleman named Greg said hi and offered to place a dog bed to make the puppy more comfortable as opposed to his paws leaning against the screen uncomfortably. I appreciated this kind gesture and never forgot about it. Fast forward 4 years later he's still enjoying Petco. It's a great feeling to visit a store and have a team member add value to your shopping experience. read more

I come to this PetCo every few months for grooming and shopping. Everyone I've talked to at this location has been super nice and helpful, and it's usually not too busy or crowded. When I adopted my dog Scarlet a year ago, I was overwhelmed by grooming choices. Her previous foster recommended Petco, so I did some research and found this location had better reviews than the other one in Potrero. Also Petco offers better prices compared to mom-and-pop shops in the city, but some customers have complained that Petco does not take care of the dogs as well. That has NOT been my experience at this location! My go-to groomer is Jennifer L, and she does an amazing job with my dog Scarlet, taking care to build a relationship with her first. (For example, I came early to pick her up at my first appointment, and I noticed Scarlet kept offering her paw to Jennifer, and Jennifer was so sweet about it.) It took a couple times for me to figure out how I wanted Scarlet cut (there are so many different options with poodles!), but once I worked with Jennifer to determine what would work best for Scarlet, Jennifer has done a fantastic job cutting her hair each time. The only downside is that it can be hard to get an appointment; they're usually too busy attending to the pets to wait by the phone, and the online appointment system doesn't show that much availability. I got lucky that as I was looking into groomers at the beginning, Petco Grooming picked up my phone call, and I was able to schedule a haircut through the phone. Now I usually make sure to schedule the next appointment each time I pick up Scarlet in person. read more

I really hate going to this Petco. I purchased some millet for our birds today. They have a display with bags of millet for $13.49. When I paid, I was charged $14.99 for the millet. When I brought this up with an employee, (white girl with nose ring), she said it's Petco policy to never do a price adjustment. She said I had to pay $14.99 even though the display price said $13.49 because whatever price it comes up in their scanner is the price I had to pay. That is a classic bait and switch. You advertise one price and you charge whatever you want. I hate this Petco!!! Got a generic auto reply from the manager about howa they will review their price policies. But I'm still out $1.50 plus tax!!! read more

This store used to be pretty good but customer service have gone down in recent months. You can especially tell with the long time employees (including the store manager). They hate their jobs and just give out negative vibes. The newer employees are generally nice and friendly though. One time I got charged so called "material fees" for my dog's teeth brushing and nail trimming services through the vital care plan, I politely asked the cashier and eventually the manager why I'm being charged this fee. I've never, ever, been charged this fee since becoming a member in 2021, and I get these services done on a monthly basis! The manager was very dismissive and replied in a very obnoxious way and said "well I guess you were just lucky then." I since started going to other Petco locations and have not been charged the fee. read more

First, we were clearly wrong about the time allowed to return unopened cat food for a refund. That said, the amount in question was well over $100 and the pet food was unopened in its undisturbed original packaging. We were told by Petco that we were lucky they'd consider providing store credit but a refund was "out of the question because it would be against store policy". We're customers for over thirty years and Petco policy trumps reasonably accommodating longtime loyal customers. And to tell us that we're lucky they'd consider providing store credit? For unopened items in their original packaging that could be shelved for re-sale today? Well, you've lost a customer permanently and we hope your performance review reflects that. Don't shop here, they're mercenaries. read more

Like a lot of Petco stores the aquatics section can be hit or miss. Sometimes it depends on if the tanks were maintained just before you got there (looks clean!) and sometimes there is really great staff that knows how to care for the animals. This place is about average in terms of upkeep and selection--for a Petco. I needed their new clip on light for some shrimp I keep in a 1 gallon cube. I like colors of the LEDs and how the light has a simple on/off switch that works great if you use it on a timer. They had it in stock. Win! read more

The store is great! I mainly went for the dog training, which is incredibly helpful and well priced. Mya is absolutely great, she was very professional, handled all of my concerns and questions well, and had a great lesson plan. Grooming: 5/5. Great price point. The cuts is probably not as cute as other places but thats probably because I didnt give enough specific instructions. Online order pick up: 1/5. EVERY time I come here to pick up an online order, something is wrong with the item. Yesterday I picked up dog food and it has 3 small holes! Chew toys with marks? I feel they are pawning off stuff that wouldn't picked up my store customers and giving them to the online pick up order folks that are in a rush. I mean, I should have checked before I left. Shame on me being fooled multiple times for onilne pick up by this Petco. In Store: 4/5. Some employees arent as nice as others. They always offer a treat to my dog at the cash register. This location has been here for a long time, and it seems a bit larger then other pet stores in the local area. I would rate the store itself as overall good, but this gets upgraded to great if you can stack some of Petco deals. For example, I picked up some freeze-dried salmon treats that had a 'buy two get one free' promotion. This deal stacked with the normal Petco offer of an additional 10% off for switching from free delivery to in-store-pickup. This overall cut the price down substantially, to about ~40% off. This location also has pet grooming--located by the street front--and also hosts traveling veterinarians, which is nice feature if you want to get some routine shots for your furry friend. They even have dog training / obedience lessons in store! The staff is always nice as well. Maybe it says something about the benefits of working with pets? :-) read more

As a first time pet owner, I was very stressed about my cat's wellbeing. Gabriel was very amazing in approaching me and strategically picked out my needs with well knowledgeable answers. Gabriel was able to use his previous experience and genuine reviews of each products to my best interest. Lili at the cash register was also a pleasure seemingly knew that I recently adopted a cat and provided her own knowledge input to help my cat ease in. I'm really happy as this is my second time visiting this location (which was lovely as well) and the experience here has been a pleasure. I was left waiting for 30 minutes when the groomer did not show up for my appointment and no one was reachable. An HOUR after my appointment start time, I got a call it would be cancelled. They rebooked me, but when I arrived I was told it would take longer than expected as other dogs were first. I explained that I had already wasted over an hour a few days prior because no one showed up for work or called the appointments they were knowingly standing up. I received no apology and it did take over an hour longer than expected. I also paid for the itch treatment and the groomer forgot to do it.
