Terrible service. We scheduled an appointment for Monday, but it was canceled due to missed appointments; even though we had called ahead previously to communicate those issues. The manager or grooming technician was very rude and dismissive during the interaction. I have MS, which can make scheduling and attending appointments more challenging at times, so a little understanding would go a long way. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. We had a 12:10 appointment for a vaccination. We were driving from Cottonwood and our nav said it was 20 min. but took us 27 min. We stood at the clinic for a couple of minutes before we were acknowledged. By then we were 9 minutes late. We spoke to a couple different people, the last being the clinic manager. Basically they were turning us away, while telling us they give a 10-15 grace window. We left at 12:25. My first and last time here. read more

The website let me schedule an appointment for my dog and I even said while scheduling that he's 13 years old. I drive all the way to the store and get told that they can't groom him because of his age. He's a tiny Maltese and small dogs tend to live longer but anyway, you should have a disclaimer on your website that says we don't groom senior dogs. Waste of time and gas, what a disappointment. Wish I could give no stars. Don't take your senior dog here, they'll turn them away. read more

God forbid you have to buy a fish here and deal with John! Not only did John refuse to let me buy a 50 cent feeder fish he sat there and lectured the people in front of me on the fish they wanted to buy for their tank and refused to sell to them for no other reason than he didn't like the selection of fish they chose. Theres no way this Petco is going to sell any fish if John is still working there! John also thought it'd be a great time to lecture all the customers in the store over the intercom about integrity and the various responsibilities of pet ownership. 100% would recommend going to PetSmart or any other Petco in Utah to avoid dealing with John! read more

Like other dog-lovers, I appreciate that there is a pet specific store close to home that offers more than what I can find at the local grocery store. I only really come in every few months to snag food for my picky-eater terrier mutt. He's come with me a few times, which is fun. Although he makes a beeline for the treat aisle. He knows where the good stuff is. The store carries food and supplies for a variety of breeds, and the layout is spacious and light. I have noticed that there are more displays added to the center walkway than there used to be, which can be a little annoying. But I get it, they are here to sell stuff. Customer service at this location is terrible. My friend wanted to buy turtles and the rep was trying to tell us we couldn't get them, that we needed a new cage for them, and didn't even offer to sell us a living area for them. We went to PetSmart and got a living environment for them and went back the next day to buy the turtles. The same rep was there and said didn't I talk to you yesterday? We said yes, and we got a nee living environment for them. She then asked where, and we told her. Regretfully, it seemed she got us the turtles to buy. Also only 1/2 the lights were on in the store, and it looked very disorganized. I'm never going back there again! read more

At the end of the day, this isn't really my hood so I doubt I'll be a frequent at this Petco. In some ways that makes me sad--the layout is pretty spacious. It's go the fancy coral reef halo above Aquatics and the small reptile unit is the faux rock. It's jazzy. However, no amount of niceness can make up for service. I had nice service today. And I usually do at Petco. But I also had molasses service, which is also more often the case than not. I usually dart in and want to dart out, as I'm not much of a shopper at pet stores. I'm usually on a food run and know right where to go. But more often than not (and this store proved to be true) it takes me a while to get through the checkout. Loads of people in line? Nope, just a really slow process. At the end of the day, what's a few extra minutes, really. I understand we're not talking about life or death situations. But when I'm standing there with a 30lb. bag of dog food on my shoulder, I just wanna pay and be on my way. I gotta start remembering to use a cart. read more

I love the Petco Pals program that gives me cash back based on cash spent at Petco. I also love that they can look up my order even when I didn't keep the receipt. I recently bought some expensive dog food that came highly recommended. Our two Labradoodles pick through their food and spit the new expensive food out onto my floor. Super messy and super frustrating! Anyway, the rep I talked to said they will take the food back within 30 days with the receipt or Pals number. Whew! Since this is in the District, somewhere I visit often being as I live close by, there is a part of me that wants to give this Petco a better rating. However, when compared to a competing chain, it's lacking in a couple of areas. The layout of this store I've actually always liked. It is certainly more inviting than most pet stores that are just three corridors of back to back warehouse style racking from the front doors to the back of the store surrounded with additional amenities against the walls on most sides. This store, with it's large aquarium area in the middle, actually seems more spacious and warm than a lot. However, it's a lack of said amenities which is also a bit of a gripe for me here. Since I don't frequent this chain I cannot say this is true of all Petco locations, but having competing stores that are my one stops for boarding, general veterinary care, and places I can get food for my pets only available by prescription etc. it's a little lacking. We did try coming in here for the latter and they told us Petco doesn't carry things like that - accurate across the board I cannot say, but completely accurate for this location. I can't say I've ever had bad service here on the few times I've come in, but I can't say it's ever been enough to make me want to come back either. For me, this store is good for an emergency if they have what you want, but that's about as good as it gets. read more

Great experience taking my little maltese puppy. He got pampered really good. This is going to be my regular groomer.

This is a review for the groomers. They have good prices, compared to other services in the area, like Paw Paw ($$$). My dog has always been happy to go and come home-no funny business or dog trauma. The first time we went-doggo was a puppy, they did a terrible job. Something about her being anxious and the were unable to actually groom her. My husband picked her up, and paid full price as we didn't really know any better. When I saw the dog I was like "What happened to her? She's a mess!" I called in and told them they did a crap job and they bent over backwards to make sure I was happy. They'd finish the job, next one free and add on "specials" like a special foot rub. We really dialed in the way we like the dog cut and they've done a magnificent job since. I respect a place that is willing to admit to and fix mistakes. read more

My newly adopted dog had to have her Anal Glands expresses. Walked in the door for baths and it was done in 5 minutes. Only $10+ tip. No appointment needed. Friendly and efficient. She's not allowed to have a bath yet. Much better than having to drive to the ranch in the heat. I also learned that some of the bigger things like a crate are much cheaper at Petco.com. Will continue shopping locally for supplies like food and bags. read more

I hate coming here. They have stupid nerds working here and they don't know anything. Every time I've asked a question, they can't answer it or they give me a vague generic answer. Who hired these people? They should get fired. The aquatic section is the worst I've seen out of all the 20 locations I've been to. How do you stay open? Oh yeah, it's your expensive prices. We always buy Sophresh puppy potty pads. They have changed this product for the worst!! The charcoal top is now white (which is awful because it shows the urine) and the bottom is a cheap gray, that is useless! Please bring back the charcoal top!!!! There have been other reviews regarding this change and all are negative. read more

The grooming service was horrible! The workers were extremely rude. When I went to drop off my dog it was a long wait after they had change my appointment time. They called to say my dog was done and when I arrived an hour after the call he was still being groomed. His cut was horrible and we asked for a fix and they said they had to charge me more, and he still doesn't look that great. We definitely won't be going back. read more

If you are considering using the self service bathing facility at this Petco read my comments. I have a very large dog. So the option of bathing him in a more pet oriented facility was very appealing to me rather than dealing with the trouble and mess at my home. I have never tried one of these pet bath places before. So I called and got all the details and I drove over with my dog to try this out. So our first impression: the bathing facility is shared with the caged dogs. So my dog's first experience upon walking into this new and a bit strange area was the sounds of several dogs whimpering in the background. This was not a good first impression and it didn't sit well with him. The area I was given was a walled cubicle that had a large wall mounted rectangular tank that was elevated off the ground. It was too high and small for my large dog but for smaller dogs it would be fine. So when I was asked if I wanted to put mine in the tank I declined. So as an alternative they handed me a way too short twisted elastic rope that she slipped around my dog's neck and tied the other end to a clip on the wall. This rope would just make him to stand on the floor of this cubicle for his bath. Although it may be suitable for medium or smaller dogs my dog did not like it and it was way too restrictive. I then was handed what was a professional restaurant disk washing hose sprayer from the tank and was told to use this for the water to spray him down. They also showed me their "hairdryer" that looked more like an industrialized vacuum cleaner from the 1990s mounted on the wall near the tank. As time was passing my dog was becoming more nervous and I wasn't looking forward to this but the money was paid and I had him there already. Time to start the bathing. The sprayer was strong at full squeeze but you could release it a bit to make the water spray flow softer. But with the background whimpering of dogs -that are terrified because they don't know why they are in a cage- the short rope, and the narrow cubicle itself it just wasn't going over well for my dog. I rushed the bath as quickly as I could. With the little tie rope's short length he was pacing back and forth and biting at the sprayer. I finally got him to settle down a little by releasing him from the rope and controlling him myself. Then came the car wash like "hair dryer". I flicked the power switch on to that monstrosity and my dog became undone. Just too much noise, the confined strange area, and everything else to process for him to handle. he was terrified. I turned the turbo industrial vacuum off and dried him with the provided towels. While leaving I told one of the staff bathers that their 90db hurricane force "hair dryer" is a bit antiquated. I was scoffed at and told that their "other hair drier is even louder". Lucky me. as I noted, the concept of a bathing area for my large dog sounded great but the facility at this Petco, its equipment, and the atmosphere was horrible for my otherwise very well behaved and composed dog. I'll never take him back there again for that. as I had stated when I learned of these pet chains offering self service baths I envisioned a small glass enclosed private room that he and I could stand in while I sprayed, bathed and dried him in. Not this large shared open room with caged dogs, staff members bathing other dogs at the same time, and them also walking past my dog with other dogs opening the door while leaving -He wanted to leave too. I'm going to check other national pet chains for better, modernized facilities. As it stands this was a nightmare experience for my dog. Smaller dogs might work better being immersed in the tank and being more isolated from all the ruckus but I would not recommend it for larger dogs. read more

I was sad to read all the negative comments people made about the District Petco- I just got a Sphinx kitten and needed some help with wet kitten food- everyone was so helpful and kind- they even went back and picked some out for me to try- I've been back numerous times and I'm always asked if I need any help. I only interacted with one person there, so the others don't get 4 stars, but the young lady who was more than patient with me and an issue I was having that had me in there 4 times, was amazing! They killed a fish right in front of me any my boyfriend.. We asked for 4 goldenkilli fish and one was in shock, he handles them like rocks. The fish was okay but just in shock from the treatment he gave them, assuming the fish was going to die anyways he suffocated it in a bag. IT WAS STILL ALIVE AND WE SAW IT SLOWLY DIE! We tried to tell him to stop but it was too late... It always seems they get the smallest fish they can also, we have a more mature tank and kindly asked for the bigger ones. Nope. I took the puppy training class. It was disappointing. Christina was very nice and seems to truly care about the dogs. She always starts class late, like 10 minutes late. Oftentimes the class runs over which is tough on a Saturday evening as I would usually have plans. The first 15-20 minutes of the class is "socializing." This is basically when the dogs get to sniff each other and wander around. After that we would learn one new thing each class. There was only 4-5 dogs in my class but what would happen is she would have us go out into the store for 30-40 minutes and practice this one new command we learned. She would pull each dog and owner aside to work with them individually. Two out of the six classes she didn't even get to me. So I spent a majority of the class wandering the store practicing this one command. I didn't feel the class was worth the money at all. Long ago a took a similar class at Petsmart and it was much better. read more

Ill start with I'm a petsmart person, I got a pup who I adore and like to buy a lot of toys and treats for, the only REAL benefit to PETCO is the treat bar they had, But my pup needed a new bag of food and I live close to the district so I decided id give PETCO a shot. Well, as usual the store was just sad and in disarray, I went looking for the dog food I needed and couldnt find it so I asked a cashier who was nice and told me where to go, I went back and realized it just wasn't out, but they did have a spot for it. I went and found to associates who were goofing off and politely asked one of them "Would you happen to have any food in the back that you dont have out?" and was instantly and condescendingly answered "We would not happen to (then he laughed) I did the food today" and just stared at me, after his asshole response I looked at this name tag "Edwin-Manager" HA!! He was the manager?! I couldnt believe it, he was a condescending prick and was goofing off like a kid with another associate. If thats the manager, it must be a terribly run store. Needless to continue, I dont like PETCO and thanks to Edwins behavior it reminded me why and although this location is a lot more convenient for me then a Petsmart location, I will gladly go out of my way to shop there.
