Petco in Puyallup Is a nice enough pet supply and pet carrier store... From pet food to toys, treats, and services... They've got just about everything you need including doggy grooming services. Popped in with my bestie so we could grab some food for his two little guinea pigs Kyle and Nigel, but did some browsing while in the store, especially around the reptiles and fish. The tanks and general area around the fishes needed a little updating and TLC... The entire store is slightly outdated with tiles and layout as well. I will say they do have a great assortment of furry, scaley, and various critters who could use a good home. It was pretty early so not many people on the floor and when we went to check out it seems they might have been short-staffed as the one line was backed up and someone was clocking in when we finally were 2nd to next in line. We weren't offered any help on the floor even though we passed two Petco Crew... which felt odd. We were able to find exactly what we needed by process of elimination and both of us formerly worked retail for years... bittersweet perks and talents of years past. I was tempted to buy the Spongebob pineapple fish house I snapped a pic of... Correction... repositioned it so it was more eye-catching and then snapped a pic... They gave him an adorable hanky and cut his nails very nicely! He was very much in need of a grooming session. His nails are so nicely cut and he smells wonderful. First experience with dog grooming Not impressed and zero customer service. I have a 2 year old golden retriever, when I called to book my appt I was told the total for haircut and bath would be 88$ upon picking her up they added extra charges for special shampoo, hand cut etc that I didn't not request and was not asked if I would like these things. As well as her cut not being what I wanted, I requested short as her hair grows fast and we hike once a week. It was not short and looked as very little had been done. When I complained about these things all I was told was sorry! Not customer service, no refund for charges not requested or offered No resolution to problems encounter I would not return and I would highly recommend finding else where to take your pet for grooming read more

Took my two dogs to Petco for their monthly pedicure. From puppy training till yesterday I have always taken my dogs there. My oldest dog has arthritis in her left shoulder. I have always made it clear with ever appointment to be gentle with that leg. The groomer was to be someone who has worked on my dog on numerous occasions. She asked if my dog was on any kind of medication. To which I answered yes. I give her a product that has hemp seed extract in it. I was told that she would need to be off of anything cannabis for 24 hours before they could groom her. Not sure if that requirement applies to all pain or anxiety medication. They refused to take her. She has been on products like this for several years. Products that I had actually purchased at this store in the past. It was a complete surprise, especially when this dog can sit, stand and do her best to shake your hand with her arthritic leg. I asked why this policy was not revealed to me at any time upon making this appointment. Seems as if they have a "don't tell and we won't have to ask" policy. So I really don't see myself ever using Petco again. I am not going to make my dog any more un-comfortable for any grooming than what she may or may not be. I called the competition and with full disclosure was able to make an appointment. I have been buying her joint supplement there anyway so now they get all my impulse shopping dollars as well. read more

Update... After two rounds of antibiotics due to Petco injuring Sammy we sadly had to bring him back to the vet for the 4th time. They said the antibiotics destroyed his gut flora resulting in vomiting and diarrhea. Petco still refuses to pay us a dime. The next step is court since they refuse to do the right thing. read more

Dirtiest petco I've ever been to. Came in here with my leashed dog, only to find him trying to eat this mysterious ball/pile of who knows what.... years of not cleaning!!! I found that this store doesn't bother sweeping the floors or taking any kind of ethical responsibility for that matter to blatantly advertise "bring in your dog" if you plan on not providing, at the VERY LEAST a clean environment. No one ever approached me to help even though I was 1 of 3 customers and there were equal amount of staff roaming around. I have been coming to this Petco for more than 5 years. It has always been the "Go-To" pet store for me! I have had many many many pets...and always came here for everything. Recently, I have come several times.. to buy and return a gentle leader. The first time, the size was too small so I didn't know if I could return it after opening and testing on my dog. The other item I also tried using was the expanding leash handle thinger. Both items were returned and (exchanged for a larger gentle leader) without a problem. The guy was very kind and also remembered me earlier that day buying the items. The next day, I had to return the other gentle leader again because it was slightly too big and my dog didn't like it whatsoever! I have read many articles on how dogs don't like it at first but I also bought a chain collar at the same time to see which one works. I ALWAYS dread coming to this Petco. I love the variety of fish that are offered at Petco stores. This store in particular I have always had trouble getting assistance at. I looked around in the aquatics section and the back of the store for 15 minutes before standing in line up front just to ask for assistance. The associate up front paged for someone to help me. I'm fortunate in that I live close to both a PetSmart store and a PETCO store in Puyallup, Wa. I purchased a fish aquarium heater 2 days ago at PETCO and it worked but it did not get to the heat level that I needed for my Discus fish, whch is 84 to 86 degrees. It says it goes to 88 degrees but never delivered heat above 80 degrees. I gave it 2 days and it never budged. - - - So I took the aaquarium heater back to the PETCO store that I purchased it from. But the person at the cash register gave me the 3rd degree as she obviouly did not trust me. She kept looking and looking and looking for something wrong as if I may have damaged it and was trying to take advantage of her personally. I had already told her I just wanted to exachange it for one that worked correctly. Then she called someone else over and this lady mumbled somethiung at me with a cold look and thgen kept walking. I could not understand a word she said but it wasn't helpful or welcoming. - - I felt and still do feel as if PETCO likes you and will help you with enthusiasm when you are giving them your money but still, I'm the same customer needing help when I retrurned but I wasn't treated that way. If PETCO cared about their customers they would have proactively trained their employees in advance but they have not trained them about customer service at all, unless they see you taking out your wallet. But there is an anwer for this and it's called PETSMART which will now be my first choice when needing any pet related supplies. They treat me with the same courtesy when I return an item as they treat me when I am buying from them. There is such a drastic contrast in service. read more

I brought my husky here to get a bath, deshedding treatment, and his coat brushed out. Although it was a bit pricey, they did a GREAT job! Only a husky owner can appreciate this...it has been a week since his appointment and there is very little fur in the brush when I groom my dog at home and hardly any flying around! It's amazing! I have taken my husky to a less expensive groomers and sadly, not only was my dog still "damp" when I picked him up, but his fur was flying everywhere and it doesn't seem like they took the time to really "brush him out." Also I liked Angelica. She was very kind and seemed to genuinely care about her clients, being a large dog owner herself. She clearly took the time to get the fur off my dog and I am very grateful. I will be bringing my dog back when it's time to thin his coat again. read more

We went into this location to grab blood worms and a plant for one of our 7 aquariums and while we were in the aquatics department we noticed a comet goldfish that both of us wanted. I asked the employee for that particular one and he basically lectured me about the fact that those are just feeders and we can't pick out the one we wanted and that its a "scoop and dump"...he ended up accomodating us but only after talking to me i was a new employee or something. Poor customer service. They don't enforce face mask rules. I watched an other customer walking around without mask in front of store employees, and nothing was said. When I was at the register an other customer came into the store without a face mask on, the front end employee did not say anything and let that customer in the store. Not only was I disappointed in the fact I couldn't get any decent help, now I feel there's no reason for me and my pet to come back to this store. This is specifically for the Puyallup location. I have been trying to have my cats nails trimmed for a while now - each time I call I'm told it's not a good time. Eventually doing it my self (which is such a process, I'd rather pay someone to do it). I went to the Petco in Kent and had a fabulous experience. Here is how the two compare: Taking 2 cats for nail trims in Kent on a Saturday Morning: 1. Call Petco 2. Verify groomer is there who is trained to do cat nails 3. Load up cats 4. Drive to Petco 5. Drop off cats 6. 2 cats nails trimmed faster than I can pay for it. Taking 2 cats for nail trims in Puyallup (any day of the week): 1. Call Petco 2. Do not reach grooming 3. Store employee transfers you back to grooming 4. Grooming says while the groomer is there, they're not going to do cats today 5. Call back in a day or two - repeat steps 2 ad 3, sometimes twice 6, Get told that the grooming department is too busy 7. Go to another groomer - who went out of their way to be accommodating 8 Take my dog to the new groomer and never go back to Petco I also went there for dog food during the Nutro change over - I couldn't find the new formula for the variety I fed my dog - and the guy looked at me - walked down the aisle and said "Well, we never carried it, so I don't know why we would now." (even though they did....because I bought it there in the past) - so, I left and bought it else where. If I move back to where the Kent location is an option, I'll happily go there - but i'm not stepping foot in the Puyallup location. read more

do not come to this location. if i could give zero stars i would. i placed a PAID ORDER for pickup, and we got there 5 MINUTES prior to the store being closed and the MANAGER locked the door and told us they were closed and couldn't find our order then proceeded to lock the door. Worst place ever. I decided to give them a second chance- after taking my dog to them with no problems a few times with Morgan. Then I picked him up from a groom appt. and the next day he had two large lumps in his neck. I have friends and coworkers to also go here had same issue with their dogs. I thought I'd go back and talk to them, and was told it was because my dog did not like the other groomer. And they switched it up and ( giving them a second chance ) made another appt. dropped him off. I stayed in my car in case their was any issue. Once I was called to pick him up I asked how he did this time they said he was doing much better and no issues. Said he just really didn't get along with one of the staff members their. And they would notate in his Account not to have this staff member involved in his grooming. So today I go an schedule another appt- and was told I need to have a vet do his grooming. That my dog is a difficult case, and hard to handle. Why was this NEVER discussed with me from that last visit when I asked how he did. I would of made other arrangements for him. Now here it's Sunday I can't get get records for his rabies shots for a new groomer. Nor can I find a new groomer to see him today. Worst place ever. I will be having my friends and family write their experiences here for people to see how their dog could potentially be handled. Also lied too, when a person asks how their dog did at their visit, they expect to know good or bad. I would like to compliment Sara in the grooming salon! She did a fantastic job with both of my dogs! I had a regular gal at a different pet store chain and she moved to this store but due to training time wasn't available yet to work with dogs. I was anxious and apprehensive as I own an akita and a lot of people are threatened or scared and usually won't give him a chance! He's a tough one to cut nails but she didn't blink an eye, comforted me and I trusted her completely. It's out of my way to be a regular at that's store and will be going back.
