I came in again today for a net and some fresh water fish. The female who helped me seemed annoyed the texture time and they had only been open a short time. I got 5 fish dvd one costs $30 so I expect good service. I showed her which gush I wanted and assumed she put those in the bags At the counter the cashier realized that there was brown poop looking stuff in the outside of both bags. Apparently the fish counter was very dirty and they hadn't cleaned it. No telling what that awful looking Brown mush was. Looked like diarrhea. The cashier wiped them down and her counter. But . The alarming thing is you just float these dirty bags in your tank 40 min and I have no idea what was in it and would have made my fish sick or dead. Also I then noticed one of the fish she gave he was really tiny. Not the fish I had picked. So the cashier had me go back after I had paid to the same woman and she was annoyed I wanted a larger fish ( she is a long frizzy haired white female ). Interesting whine I was in line waiting for cashier the guy behind me was really pissed at a guy employee. He needed a bag of dog food and it was in High shelf and an employee a dude was working there. He said excuse me can you move I need a bag there. No I'm working ! He replied well I'm a customer. He was furious. This store needs manager intervention and staff retraining. Only the woman cashier was pleasant and helpful. Update. I went to petco to get my dog groomed. I had brushed my dog prior so they're weren't any knots to make the grooming process easier. When I had picked up my dog it was a curly hair girl that gave me it didn't say anything was wrong with him or such sort. Went back to complain about his gential area being irrated after the grooming, I went to talk to someone and they said that Dani talked to me when I picked up my dog saying he was matted and not able to when first getting there. Which is weird because Dani is not the curly hair girl that gave me my dog so why would she lie about giving me my dog and saying he was matted and not being able to pee and he had a uti and to take him to the vet. I know my dog and he was peeing outside before I took him in out side the store. super wrong and they will not take responsibility so Inconsiderate! read more

I have taken my dogs to Petco for baths for years both in Santa Barbara and now in Paso Robles. Really appreciated the service. Recently made an appointment for my German Shepherd for a bath. Filled out the online info beforehand. When I got to the appointment they asked like they always do if he had any new issues. Yes he's aging and his back hips are more arthritic. The employee asked if he's on any meds for it. Yes. Well I'm that case we can't take him. It's not heroin it's an anti inflammatory!!! Sorry Petco has a strict policy and can take no animals that are on any kind of medication. Well I would have appreciated knowing that upfront when I made the appointment. This is horrible customer service. And does not show any actual care for the customer or their pets. Will never give them any business in future and neither will my extended family. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMAL HERE TO BE GROOMED. I had been taking my dog here for 3+ years and have spent thousands of dollars with this company. I am appalled by the way this company deals with complaints and complications. I came in 10 minutes early to get my dog, only to see he was being groomed by someone who I've never met (her name was kayla or something like that) and he definitely wasn't familiar with her. He was howling, crying and trying to bite her as she aggressively "combed out" (more like ripped out) his back fur. When I approached the counter and saw this I immediately needed her to stop so I could take him home and stop this service. I know my dog, this was hurting him. The girl at the front her name is BRI, ignored me and continued speaking with the lady on the phone even though I was frantically trying to get her attention and have the girl stop. No one would pay attention so I started tapping on the glass. Oh then she noticed me. Bri responded with "She's not hurting him, that's how we groom. And Just so you know, his old groomer Jessica (who groomed him for 3 years) was WAY more mean and aggressive with him than she's being right now" (Keep in mind I'm 6 months pregnant and started to get worked up because I'm watching my dog being hurt and she has the audacity to tell me this right now????) How on earth is that the correct thing to say? Why would this be helpful information at this time??? How unprofessional. Not to mention you're admitting that another employee was aggressive and mean with one of my animals??? How on earth is this ok?? I finally found a "manager" and she went back and grabbed my dog. She apologized and honestly I can't believe I paid for this service and truly am speechless at the fact that you cannot trust anyone to take care of your loved ones. After all this, my dog had chunks of fur ripped out and tiny abrasions and cuts all over his belly and back side. I'm sick thinking about all the time I trusted him to be here and to think he was being treated kindly. Bri you should be ashamed of yourself. Jessica, if this is true my heart is truly broken knowing all the times I trusted my dog with you. And whoever groomed him that day, I'm thankful I caught it when I did so I could make sure to never spend a dime with this company ever again. Emma groomed my nervous giant, a 100lb mixed breed dog. She was so gentle with him and listened to my anxious notes very graciously. She patted him over and gave him plenty of time and space. When he came out she had even managed to do his tail which even I cannot touch! He came out super soft, tail wagging. I'm so grateful for her time and care, she did a great job. read more

Something needs to change and rapidly with this store. We took one of our two dogs in for grooming today. I arrived to a VERY unfriendly staff member. She was not enthusiastic at all. I was nervous to leave my dog with her. I figured it might be too early for her and she is not a morning person. She called us 3 hours later and had the same unenthusiastic tone with my husband. The pick up was the kicker. I feel that this staff is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to humanity. My husband patiently waited for someone to wait on him at the grooming counter. There was one female groomer with a dog and another one eating a sandwich next to her. He finally did a small tap on the glass and the one eating a sandwich tapped to the sign that said "no tapping on the glass." Does customer service even exist in this store. The sandwich eater came out and said she needed to clock in (go to a break room to eat, not right next to a groomer handling hair). She was rude, unpleasant, and made my husband feel like he was putting her out for paying for a service that pays her salary. This is the third time this store has done something mind boggling. We thought the first two were just mismanagement issues but it clearly starts at the top. It should be closed. People go elsewhere for any of your pet needs. It is even worth a drive to San Luis Obispo to avoid this hell hole. I was quoted a different price online and charged double. Great business ethics. read more

Went to buy a fish for my daughter. Her tank is already set up and has two other guppies. The lady asked about the tank and then refused to sell my daughter a $3.00 guppie because her tank is too small. Meanwhile in their overcrowded tanks (according to their own logic) has bags of even more fish acclimating, half of which are already dead! Make it make sense. The lady was very rude when I decided to take my business elsewhere. Yes they don't care about $3.00 but I also have other pets and we will purchase anything and everything for them either online or in SLO. I refuse to step foot in this store again! read more

I've been a customer of Petco, now with my 3rd pup for a few years when the store was located in the vicinity of Blaze pizza. Unfortunately I will NEVER bring my pup back for grooming at an average of over $100 per groom. My pup loves the groomers and they've done an excellent job with her. This is the first time I claimed the "so-called free groom," which I ended up paying $30.51 for. The manager Ashley listened to my concern and said "materials fee have to be paid," mind you I'm paying $1,000+/- per year for my pup's grooming. Also on the Petco app it states you get your regular/usual groom at this time, but Ashley was adamant that the materials fee is always included. The principal here is extremely poor communication between Petco policy, management and customer's needs. Looks like Petsmart in San Luis Obispo will be seeing us more frequently. read more

Don't ever bring your pet here for grooming at this Petco location. I make an appointment and bring my pup in and ask for a medium length hair cut and I wanted the hair on the face area to be shaped round. The girl then immediately ask me if I wanted the teddy bear look hair cut. "Yes" that is exactly how I wanted so I through she is very knowledgeable and know what she was doing. When it's time for me to come pick up my pup I through they bring out a wrong dog for me but no they say it's my dog. I ask the girl what did you do to my dog this is not what I'm asking for. The hair is too short and the face wasn't even round looking. She told me that is what I asked for and if I wanted to make the face shape rounder she can go fix it. Hello! There's no hair left to be fix. Everyone just look at the pictures and tell me if that's a teddy look after grooming or it look like a sheep that just got all of it fur shape off naked. The manager of this store needs serious coaching. I saw the ads for the Halloween merchandise, so went in to purchase a costume for my little dog. This was important because he was having major surgery, and losing one eye-- and we wanted to take some pictures before that. Silly, I know, but we are silly dog people. Regardless, when I went into the store, a few Halloween things were out and about, and other things were being stocked. I asked a woman unpacking things if they had the item I wanted, and she said yes, but it was in the back. I told her I was going to purchase it, and asked if she could get it, and she responded "I'm busy with all these things." WTF? You can't walk into the back for a guaranteed purchase? There was ONE other group in the store. It was NOT BUSY. I explained that I'd really appreciate it, but she still said "no." I went to Spirit Halloween and purchased our doggie's costume instead. I had an appointment for my Schnauzer who requires regular maintenance. On May 31st I got a call that my groomer was injured and unable to make the appointment but that someone would call me to reschedule. Never heard from anyone. I finally stopped waiting and booked an appointment for July 6th at 9am. I got a TEXT (not a phone call) at 8:25 that morning that my groomer was sick. 35 minutes before the appointment! Mind you at this point it had been April since they groomed my dog! I expressed my disappointment to the manager and she rescheduled me for today, July 27th at 10:30. Guess what?? I got a call at 9:56 that my groomer isn't able to work today! I spoke with the manager and she was not interested in my complaint. I told her I would leave a review so that other people don't waste 3 months of their time trying to get in. What a joke. read more

An employee, I was told her name is Kim, had a very bad attitude dealing with me and my son then in her hubris refused to sell me a fish for mistaken and unfounded reasons. My son and I went to the store to purchase a new fish for our tank and at first a nice young woman (I unfortunately didn't get her name) did an excellent job helping us out. She asked all the appropriate questions about the size of our tank, how long we've had it and what fish are currently in it. I appreciate that those questions are asked, I've been doing aquariums for about 20 years and like to know that there is an attempt to make sure the fish are being taken care of properly. While she was in the middle of helping us and had already gotten the fish we wanted into the interim holding tank, Kim walked over and started asking about our tank. When I told her the size of our tank, she insisted that it was too small for the fish we wanted then, when I started to push back on her claims, her attitude became very rude, snooty, and condescending. Like I mentioned previously, I've been an aquarium hobbyist for about 20 years and I've done a little bit of everything: freshwater, saltwater, big, small, reef, planted, amphibious, etc. While it might be appropriate to show caution to a newer hobbyist wanting to put a small cichlid in a 30 gallon tank, there was absolutely no reason for Kim to give me a hard time about it, especially after I explained my situation to her. I designed my current tank from the ground up to hold a couple small South American cichlids; it has a slightly lowered PH, high tannin levels, lots of live plants (native to the Amazon), and plenty of hiding places. Frankly, I'm appalled at the way Kim treated my son and I and I don't plan on ever shopping at that store again. I would have been fine with her insisting that the tank is too small, I'm sure Petco has general guidelines for employees to follow, but am absolutely not okay with her doing it in such a rude manner that not only upset me, but my son as well. If Petco does have guidelines on fish types and tank sizes, maybe it would be wise to make sure employees know that they aren't dogma and certain situations allow for different types of setups. read more

The staff is always friendly. It's a very clean store. I have been shopping here almost 10 years. I have a dog, cat, birds, and fish, (55 gallon tank). Petco has it all. From my chihuahua's Santa Suit, to bird treats. Paulette is the manager and she can answer any, or every question about your pets needs. read more

I will never go back here again. I stopped two years ago because of the horrible service but decided to return again last week instead of driving to SLO. I hate this store so much I'm in tears. Every time I think of Petco I think foul thoughts. I can't even drive by so I go around otherwise I'll get upset. This location needs to shut down. People talk a lot of smack about PetCo, but I have never had a bad experience here. I enrolled by 10 week old French Bulldog in their puppy obedience training which was great. And, I've been coming here for her regular nail trimming ever since. My dog is difficult to do a nail trim on. She has a thing with her feet and won't let me touch her paws at all. The folks here always get her trimmed in no time. They love her up and treat her wonderfully even though it takes two of them to keep her calm. I had an issue with my gift card and the customer service rep I spoke to on the phone at their corporate office was so completely unhelpful and clueless. I went into the store and although the associates didn't know how to fix the problem they called someone who knew and they did an awesome job helping me. Made an appointment to have my senior dog groomed two weeks in advance. I let them know that he does take medication for heart failure, so I'd like it to be as quick as possible. They told me it was not a problem. Two weeks later, the day before he is to be groomed they called to confirm the appointment, great! However the day of his appointment, less than 15 minutes before he was supposed to be there, the groomer called to say she did not feel comfortable grooming my dog. This is understandable, but why wait till 15 minutes before my appointment to tell me. Sounds like they have some poor organization, & lack of communication. Wouldn't recommend. read more
