I took my little dog Cocoa in for a bath and cut, she was a little matted in a couple areas. The groomer Hailey cut her very low which I didn't want her cut so very low, but I can live with this it will grow back eventually. She did nick her on her left side, her face is unevenly cut, there was also a circular piece of matted hair hanging from her tail. I've called a couple times was giving the run around told a couple times that I would get a call back but nothing has happened. Looks like I may need to find another groomer. read more

I asked her to carry my dog to back because he didn't know her and was nervous. This place never answers there phone. They refused me service said I was 15 minutes late. They rescheduled my appointment twice and gave me 1 minute to arrive to my appointment. The groomer informed me it wasn't her problem that the system rescheduled me. I was 15 minutes late to my "rescheduled" appointment and she wasn't taking me cause she had something to do after work and was not staying late. It was 8:15 am I should have been the first appointment. Not sure what time she got off. Don't go here, staff is rude and lack of training. read more

Not great for grooming. Scheduled an appointment at 9 am. Groomer called 8:45 saying she was going to be late because there was a train on 95th. Fine. Went to the store at 9. They don't open until 10 but grooming opens at 9 am. Called at 9:06 to at least let us in and wait inside since it was hot out. One of the associates came out to tell me groomer wasn't going to be there until between 9:30-10 and that I can come back after. We would if we lived across the street and had nothing to do. I've been shopping at this location for close to 15 yrs. We used to bring our dog for nail trims, but stopped after the grooming area declined. We still stopped in for shopping, though. Won't be going back now. The reason for the one star review? My husband got a guinea pig there two wks ago. The animal was the last one they had and my husband was told the pig was a girl. Perfect. Fast forward to this weekend: we found another female we liked at another area pet store and brought her home. That pet store had multiple females that were of course kept in an area together. When it was time to introduce the two pigs, the one we got from this Petco kept trying to mount our newest pig. Eventually he did and my husband removed him (hopefully soon enough) from the pen. When he did so, we could visibly see a penis. Obviously this was NOT a female. We were both shocked and of course left with a decision. The male was brought home first, but we initially wanted females AND we were told the pig was a female. Pigs will always be kept with their own gender. The fact that this pig was the only one they had at the time my husband stopped in means there was no need for separation. However, the associate he dealt with should have known what gender pig(s) were available. Or management should do a better job keeping track and informing their staff. Given that guinea pigs are social animals, thrive among other pigs, and are typically kept in habitats with other pigs, their gender is a HUGE factor. We have zero intentions of breeding pigs. It was hard to return the pig. He had been in our home and had adapted and we really liked him. I've never returned an animal in my life. It wasn't an easy thing to do. Thankfully there wasn't an issue doing so and we did get a refund. Unfortunately, you can't keep a male in a separate cage once he's aware there's a female present. We also wanted two females because they require a little less space and typically have a slightly better temperament. Luckily, things have worked out, but this was a very unpleasant experience. If you want animals that can be kept together, please be certain you are bringing home the same gender! If you see a pack animal alone in a cage, ask for proof. read more

Took my Boston terrier yesterday too get the whole works. Nails,shampoo,the whole nine yards. Notice my dog was having problems after My wife picked him up like he was having trouble with both eyes like they were red and puffy not normal. Well I tried too use warm water too rinse his eyes and it was just hurting him. Idk what they used for his eyes but both eyes are completely shut and he is in pain. Going too the emergency vet. I had 3 dogs that needed grooming today. I got caught by a train so I was running late but less than 15 minutes. I called to let them know I was close by and asked which dog should I bring in first. The groomer, Thiery, said it didn't matter which dog I brought in but because Zoe was almost 15 minutes late, I had to reschedule her. Now these groomer have been running late previously and I never complained. I allowed them to groom 2 of the 3 dogs. Thiery had a poor attitude and customer service needs work, especially when I picked up the dogs. I almost cancelled all of my dogs appointments and went somewhere else but my bigger ones really needed a bath. I've had at least 6 dogs groomed with Petco, 5 with this specific location. I would have expected them to be understanding bringing the 3 dogs but I guess I expected too much. Her energy was giving I'm lazy and because I am, I'm going to do the least amount of work as possible. And it was no point in telling the manager, Rob. Didn't look like he would have did anything. In all of my years of shopping I've NEVER had a cashier throw my items in the floor during a return. I requested a manager and she said she was the manager. I took my dog to be groomed here cause my normal Petco was booked. I dropped my dog off and before I could get home the groomer calls me saying I have to pick my dog up because she was scared and pissed and shitted on herself. (Yes those were her exact words.) She said she was trying to trim my dog hair on her legs and my dog tried to bite her and ended up biting her tongue. Really?! What dog bites their own tongue while trying to bite someone else. She hit my dog in the mouth. My dog has been going to petco for at least 12yrs and I've never received a phone call saying come pick her up cause she's biting anyone. I am so disappointed with customer service here. Cashier had an attitude the whole time. When i asked if she wanted me to lift the heavy dog food bags so she could scan them, she ignored me. When my family and i paid with cash, she had her manager come and check each bill we had. that is no problem. the problem is at the end when her manager had left, she said "at least i didn't have to call the cops". we bought two good brands of food, big bags! and all new supplies for our new puppy, which was very obvious with our cart. we obviously expected a big bill at the end of our shopping trip. we felt very disrespected! read more

Okay, so, Petco. First and foremost--so Ryan M.'s mention of those reduced vax Sundays back in June 2013? Yeah, they're definitely still A Big Thing. And today is Sunday and, well, we baaaaarely grabbed a parking spot. Inside, people were everywhere. Dogs were everywhere. Cats were everywhere. Be that as it may, I'm a regular at Petsmart (well, Chewy first...then Petsmart), so Petco is a new-ish thing for me, but the OL one is pretty nice. Well stocked and seemingly endless. No, really. It's actually way bigger than it looks. Clean enough, friendly enough employees, and perfectly air conditioned (a huge plus for the summer haters like yours truly), I definitely prefer this location to the OP store. Petco offers a variety of toys for puppies who just need to satisfy that chewing urge. ;) Our new fox red labrador retriever is going on nine months and will all but steal the shoes off your feet. A variety of incredibly durable chew toys is exactly what we need to keep him entertained without sacrificing our footwear. I will say that Petco, especially compared to my beloved Chewy.com, is crazy expensive. And I'll never be a regular here, in part because there's about thirty million petsmarts located near my residence if I need something in a pinch. But if you're in the area and in need of some supplies, chances are good this spot can hook you up. :) read more

I came in looking for dog food and dog shampoo, and not only did they not have either of the brands I was looking for but none of the staff even seemed to notice I was wandering around trying to find what I needed. Before I left I noticed the dirty conditions of the store and the small animals and birds shoved into cages too small for them desperate to get out. It was depressing and if this is the little regard that Petco has for animals then I'll shop elsewhere. I recommend going to Pet Supplies Plus instead. read more

horrible service and treatment for my dog, dropped her off for grooming get a call from them 10 min after, asking me if my dog has ever been groomed before, I said yes 3 months ago, the young lady said we are calling you to inform you your dog is being rumbustious , so I go back and ask if everything is ok they said yes. as I'm leaving the building and getting into my vehicle I could see inside the groomer who is cutting my dogs hair frustrated and aggravated and smacks my dog in the stomach hard, my do is 8 pounds and a Maltese mix, really smack a helpless dog in the stomach because it feels unsafe ? that is uncalled for , the hair cut is horrible my dog has bald spots longer hair on one side. Man it just seems so dirty there's pee spots on the ground my dog was trying to lick there's a spot to clean up after your pet and the paper towel holder falls everytime you try to get a towel how you should easily be able to grab a paper towel with one hand I had my dogs leash with the other hand.. So I've been going to this Petco for years. That all changes thanks to Brianna and her judgement call today. I went to get some food for my dog and cat today and as I waited there was a lady in front of me. Let's just say she's not my skin tone. When Brianna got back to the register, she paid for her cans with her $5 bill. It went straight to the register and that was that. So now I'm next. I pay for my food in cash with a $20, two $5s and some singles. All of my money went on the fraud scanner first then into the register. Coincidence? I disagree. You can never find any help here, if you need crickets or fish or something there's never anyone around to help, They remodeled the store recently and you can't really tell, doesn't look like anything was really done just so wood fixtures and they moved the shelves around, still doesn't look clean or welcoming, theonly good thing is, when he's working, is one employee, Lou that always tells the funniest jokes and knows his stuff about fish, which breeds work together which ones will kill each other, how long to let them float in the bag to be accumulated to the water, which medicine to use, is it salt or fresh water fish, he knows. Only thing he's not always there, they normally have some kid in the area that has no idea that if a puffer fish will work with a Firefly Gobie, when I get fish i wait for Lou to be there so I can ask him. Thats the only good thing about this location. The worst thing is the Grooming is beyond terrible, they did a horrible job on my dog. the first time i brought him it was really short, almost to where the skin is, ok fine i told them short. the next time I said don't go too short, what they do, they shaved him. FAIL. then the parts they didn't shave, his head and face paws and tail where all hacked and slashed, he looked like a mangy coyote instead of a clean dog. kinda was embarrassed for him cause he had this look of his face blaming me for this. there will not be a next time at this groomers. They are a little pricey but for clipping my dog's nails $10 is a good price. My vet (Dr Freidrich, The Veterinarians in Summit) No longer goes to 87th Ridgeland. They only charge $5. I go to Petco and they are reasonable. They require recent rabies shots but that's in case they get bit. Groomers run the risk, but they are good groomers read more

I love this place. I had bought all my fish supplies here. They will also test your water for free. The prices are pretty much right on the money. But they don't ever have sales on anything that I need. I had a fish ate a couple of the underwater frogs. So I came here to get more. There was a sticker on the tank that said they were under observation. I peeled the sticker off and bought both of them. I guess I should have waited. One jumped out of the tank and I found him about 6 weeks later all dried up. And the other one ate a fish the same size as him and died. I didn't know that marine life could be so psychotic that they needed to be observed? read more

Do not buy Saltwater fish from here EVER they have diseases. Went to buy dog food & passed by the fish section & fell in love with 2 Saltwater fish that were reasonably priced, but unfortunately no one was around to help. So had to walk to the front & wait in line to ask the cashier to send someone to help me. We spoke to the associate about the fishes & he reassured us that the fish are well taken care of & that they can be placed in your fish tank immediately without being quarantined. They also said that if anything happened within 30 days we could return them with the receipt for a full refund. So we went ahead & purchased them but also made sure to ask the cashier about their policy on saltwater fish, she also said 30 days for a full refund. We took the fish home & followed all the steps for introducing new fishes that where explained. The fish died the next day, so we went for a refund and all of a sudden the policy had changed, no returns on saltwater fish. So we had to go back 2 times before a manager finally refunded our money after we explained that 2 associates had given us incorrect information and had we know the policy we would have never purchased the fish. Finally we got our money back & where told it was a one time thing. But by that time it was a whole big mess all of my other fish in the tank died to a disease known as "ick" that the Petco fish had been exposed to. read more

This is the only pet store I go to. I regularly use the grooming services and have been very pleased. My dogs always look great and are treated extremely well. I'm called right away to pick them up when they are ready. The store is clean and well stocked. I like the "buy on-line and pick up in the store" feature. Email coupons help make prices even better. I have been in this store many times over the years and the employees here have consistently gone above and beyond duty. I'm surprised by some of the negative reviews. I'm usually asked if I need help finding something and have always been treated with courtesy and respect. My dogs love going to Petco in Oak Lawn too! read more

Can I leave a -5 star review? We have a pure breed Bouvier Des Flanders, who is perfect from his snout to his tail. We took him there for his second cut , the first one was okay but the second oh my god! Apparently the groomers tend to take the easy way out by completely shaving dogs. They told my fiance that our dog was matted which is complete BS because we groom him every other day . If anything his coat was worse the first time we took him. It's really upsetting to see what they've done to my dog, our dog is so beautiful that when we walked him people pulled over in their cars to come talk to us to see what kind of dog he is and compliment how good looking he is. Apparently there was another lady in there who had the same issue , they told the lady that because her dogs ears were matted, they shaved him completely. They have lost our business which is a shame because it's only a block away from my house . If you have a show quality dog, do not have them groom your puppy. read more
