If I were Gretchen I would be embarrassed for the (pro) haircut she just gave my dog. First time customer, last time sucker. When the appointment was initially booked, I guess she asked my husband if the dog was difficult. (To him she is not) he never cut her hair. She can be resistant especially on her legs. I don't know that she asked him that. I would have told her she resists on her legs. That being said, once she began the dog cut and realized she was in over her head, she should have called us. She could have given us some options. Pick up dog, help with dog, stop the cut, etc. Instead she decides to scold us, complain about the dog, and butcher the haircut. Our dog is 12, and never not once ever has she any signs of aggression whatsoever. Not saying it didn't happen, just saying VERY UNUSUAL with this dog. Gretchen said she tried to bite her twice. Ok, again, should have contacted us. The unskilled trainees at Pet Supplies plus do a much better job and with a great attitude! That experience was so much nicer, even though their skill level is not quite there. They actually do a better job. They show respect to the customers, not disdain. Gretchen your attitude, uh! Sorry we were such a bother. Too pricey for substandard work. I tipped because I know times are hard, and I know it was a difficult haircut. If my name was on the shingle, I would try to at least pretend like I care. It is how you get return business. Please think twice before going here. Very shoddy work! Poor Daisy. read more

I stopped in pristine pets cause getting someone to call you back at this place is like trying to find Nemo. Thinking this dog groomer is SO good she has a line down the block, has non stop business and just can't keep up. I was surprised to see she was on her phone doing nothing or maybe just on break. Anyways! With 5 dogs barking at me, I still wanted to get a feel for this owner. This place is so close. She told me she doesn't groom Doodles because they are to big and take to much time. My dog is only 30 pounds, she's not very big, yet! My 9 month Aussiedoodle just gets scared, she's a highly intelligent breed. Petco sent her home. I'm currently looking for a experienced groomer. This place proved worthless in my search. While talking to her the pot smell hIt me. I don't care if people smoke pot, I know plenty of extremely motivated pot smokers. However, she isn't one. She seems unmotivated to take bigger Doodles because they are more work. If you have a big dog or Big Doodle. Don't bother with this place. Very strange for buisness to operate like this. So much potential yet, this place falls so short. Imagine if everyone operated like Gretchen. "That job is to big, I don't do big jobs" "That student is to much work, I can teach 15 other student 3 times as much in the same time" "Your roof is to much work, I only do little roofs" "Your grocery order has to many items, find a store that has cashiers who can ring all those items up" A good business and owner or manager finds solutions to problems. Maybe have bigger dog Monday's. She could hire someone who knocks off all the bigger dogs appointments in just that day. Hire a assistant a part timer for the bigger dogs. But no, she just rejects half the dog breeds people own. So I ended up bringing my Aussie doodle to poochie barber in oak lawn. She's a 9 month old puppy and she's just scared. Once they figured that out they just held her. She was fine. The grooming looked great and it was done quickly. I will be returning to a business that operates like a buisness. read more

When I first walked in I was so glad to not have to hold my breathe like I have to do sometimes when walking in a groomer or vet. She was so nice and kind and I loved that she was able to cut my larger dog who is German shepard retriever mix. This is the second time he has been with her and I was very satisfied both times. I have not always done well at keeping him groomed because of my work schedule. But seeing how great he looked reminds me to so better. I'm so glad shes located right at the end of my block but with her great services and prices I would drive anywhere she was. read more

Gretchen really took the time to work with my poodle mix rescue dog. He's a sweetie to our family, but really anxious around strangers. She was very comfortable and confident that she could handle him. (I was more nervous than the dog) You can see that she has a passion for what she does. Gretchen is a dog-whisperer! She always does a beautiful job on our maltese and has gone above & beyond taking care of his grooming despite him suffering with a heart condition. He always looks and smells fabulous when he leaves her shop. Added bonus, I have a bit of a skiddish pup that needs her nails trim. Gretchen is the only groomer that has not given my pup incredible anxiety when we take care in. I have gone to other local groomers and not been thrilled with their work. I just took my mini poodle to this little shop and I could not be more pleased! The place have a very clean smell compared to other groomers or vets offices, and is decorated more like a home , it has a real home feel. I appreciate the fact that she offices one on one grooming sessions and your pet isn't traumatized by there being 20 dogs at a time. Gretchen and her staff are so nice. They took my 12 year old kitty who had never been groomed before and made her look amazing! She had lots of matts so we went for a lion cut and couldn't be happier! My Margaux is obviously happy too, purring like crazy and rolling around. I was just thinking I forgot to thank my pet groomer Gretchen for taking care of my poodle that just passed away. My poodle was 13th and a half, had cancer, and big growths on her body and Gretchen took careful and wonderful care while grooming her. I had 4 dogs and now have 3. They are always excited to go up to Gretchen's. They go in looking motley and come out looking like queens and beautiful. Thank you Gretchen. read more

My family originally started utilizing Gretchen to shave our big, long haired cats, and we were always satisfied with the results. The photos of her canine work are fabulous, so I was very excited to bring my new puppy to Gretchen for her first clip. On my recommendation, my mom also brought her schnoodle in for a clip since her car was getting repaired and she couldn't get to her regular groomer. I waited patiently (yet eagerly!) for my pup all day, and started to worry when I hadn't heard from her well after 4 p.m. when the shop closed. We were nothing short of baffled when we saw our dogs. My mom's dog had been shaved all the way down, which didn't make sense to us given the freezing winter temps and fact that she wasn't matted. Puzzling, but ok...we just figured Gretchen is the expert and thought she looked better that way? But that doesn't explain the fact that the one specific request we had, for her ears and tail to be left long, was completely disregarded and she literally has just a nub of a tail and her ears were cut all the way down. I felt so bad for the dog, and for my mom, lol! My mom had to make a second trip to pick up my pup. Gretchen later told me she has extended holiday hours, which is fine and makes perfect sense, but she should inform her clients upon drop off, or list accurate hours on her webpage. I was so let down when I saw my pup. She is extremely choppy and in odd places. There's a visible area on top of her head missing, so there's not even enough hair to hold a bow. I understand she's a puppy, so I wasn't expecting anything mindblowing, but the cut fell far short of my reasonable expectations. Luckily my pup is so cute she looks even cuter with a bad haircut! I privately & politely contacted Gretchen prior to leaving any kind of public review or feedback in order to discuss our experience and to give her an opportunity to address it since we like her, liked her work on our cats, and wanted to support her local small business. She offered us to bring them back in, but there was nothing to fix, since all their fur is gone! I thought just clarifying things would be fine and I was pleased with our conversation and left the door open for us to potentially bring our cats back in 2018. A few hours later, well after 9 o'clock at night, I received another long-winded message from Gretchen, saying that I ruined her Christmas tree experience with her family and to take our dogs back to our old groomer in Crestwood! It was nothing short of bizarre. Obviously we will never use Gretchen for our dogs again, and indeed will take the girls back to Pampered Pooch (ask for Laurie!) as soon as they grow out, but in the interest of being kind and diplomatic, I didn't see a need to actually SAY that to Gretchen! She gets a generous 3 stars because the shop is clean, she did a good job on our cats, and I have never had a worry about their welfare while under her care. We were hoping to still be able to bring our cats to Gretchen, but she literally told us to take our business elsewhere, which is essentially her prerogative as the owner. It doesn't appear she valued or will miss our business anyway, so I guess that's ok. Basically, I think you'll have a good experience at Pristine Pets as long as you don't have any complaints of any kind and don't mind maybe getting what you asked for. Called Gretchen today(Friday) to see if she could groom my lab. . 1st time calling pristine pets and first time grooming my 13yr old lab. At first she was not available but gave me a few dates she would be available. Would have been Very difficult given my schedule. She literally called my phone back after hanging up and made herself available same day. One word WOW! My lab came out super clean and looks 5yrs younger! Ears to nails...Great job Gretchen! The reason I reviewed Gretchen on Yelp is the response she gave me when I called to say that I was not happy with the grooming of my Sheltie and wanted to cancel a future appointment with my other two shelties. As soon as I starting to talk to Gretchen, she said "she would be happy to cancel" and did not ask why I was unhappy or offer to "fix" the problem. My intention was to cancel the appointment and be done with her. I blame myself for not vetting Gretchen and making sure she knew how to groom a Sheltie. I will find someone else and Gretchen can keep the $5.00. I am sorry she had tragic news earlier in the week, I do not know how that would have affect on my dog being groomed. read more

I am very happy with the service I have received for my lab-mix from Gretchen. My dog can get very nervous and scared when he's trying to be groomed and Gretchen has been able to help my dog build up trust in her that other groomers have not been able to build. As you may know, they are a bit hairy, a little stubborn and only let you do what they want you to do...maybe not the best client! lol But Gretchen has treated her with love and kindness, like she was her own!
