We've been buying cat food and litter here for over a dozen years and unfortunately, it is in need of improvement. My husband and I place bets for if we'll actually find both of the things we are looking for as we walk in. It's rare that we do. The store is often in disarray and all too often, we'll find the giant bag of litter we need on a dolly, with other brands piled on top of it, the shelves empty. No staff in sight (I swear there used to be plenty of helpful staff around, asking if they can help you with anything). Anyway, that's a management issue. Stock your shelves, please. Checkout staff is always so nice. No complaints there. If we can help it, we prefer to go to their location in Mid-City which is slightly better than this one on Vets, but sometimes this is the more convenient location given the errands we need to run. read more

If Tierra could lose the attitude and do a decent job it would be great. Last time we came she did a horrible job for our pup who smelled so bad we had to take her home to an immediate bath. Ugh This time she had a terrible and somewhat surly tone. We all have bad days and don't talk like that to customers. I had a very bad experience with Tierra. She had a very bad attitude when we tried to check in our pup for grooming. If she's like that with people, how is she treating people's pets? I see someone also left a bad review 4 months ago and her attitude hasn't improved. It's a shame to see Petco has not cared to address the situation. I'm not sure why the woman answering the phone this afternoon was so unpleasant 10/21/22. I simply asked if the prescription food my cat needs was in stock as it's been hard to get lately. She audibly sighed at my question and was just very aggressive. I don't know if they were having a bad day or if they were just the most miserable person alive but yeesh get a grip. This Petco carries everything I need to keep my fur baby well fed and to keep her toy basket full. They carry top of the line foods as well as lower priced brands. I belong to their rewards program and receive regular discounts - huge plus when you are feeding a large and in charge. wanna be lap dog. No matter your critter obsession, chances are that they've got you covered. Cats, dogs, hamsters, ferrets, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles. The store is clean, bright, and very well organized. I especially love the treat bar. So many dog treats to choose from. I also love that they have an area for cats who are looking for forever homes. My dog's first birthday is this Friday, so I wanted to get him cleaned up obviously to bring in his bday in style and take a few cute pics. He had his first big boy cut at this petco and it was fantastic. When I went in, I told the stylist I didn't want to take off too much from his body, if anything just a trim. I love this Petco. Not off the beaten path; in the heart of all things METAIRIE. Pet friendly shopping. I love that the store is sectioned off into areas i.e. doggie, kitty, reptile (ewwwwwww), fishy etc I find most if not all of what I want here. Frinedly, knowledgeable staff reassure me & answer questions about my purchases. Scheduling a feeling appointment is easy peasy as well. I give my phone number at checkout time for discounts to apply; who doesnt like a sale/saving money? Ample parking in the shared lot. This is my 1st stop for pet goodies & products. read more

I prefer Petco over PetSmart, and lately, Petco has a leg up on any of the locally owned stores on cleanliness, product selection, and staff knowledge - not to mention pet selection as the pets here seemed well care for on my most recent visits. While this is not my favorite Petco location, it's still a good, clean location with all the benefits mentioned above. I visit this location because they have a larger reptile section, especially for lighting needs, as well as a large selection for aquarium needs. The food selection for dogs and cats is standard to what you find at the other locations. The downside at any Petco is price, but they do price match their internet advertised prices at the register. I tell myself that if I wanted it cheaper I wouldn't have waited to the last minute, and I hope that the higher prices are going toward keeping the locations clean and keeping the employees happy. read more

Only because I work a few blocks away....and only because I can't find Science Diet anywhere near my home in mid-city, do I ever go in here. I have noticed that their prices on comparable items are usually 20% or more higher than at Target or Kmart, so I can't recommend them on pricing, but, if you need, I mean want, to spend silly amounts of money on silly useless, I mean, fun things for your furry babies, they probably have what you are looking for at the Petco. If you sign up for their Petco card thingy they send you coupons and you get some better prices at the checkout, too. (But, I wish there was a local, non-chain, source for the cat food I seek.) read more

I went there on October 15, 2021 to gettwo harnesses for my 2 small Maltese dogs. I asked for help & the girl helped me until we found something. Now the problem is that they don't carry small enough items for small dogs. I had to return them because one of my dogs slipped right out of the harness. But everyone there is very courteous. I have never had a bad experience there. Like I said, the problem is they do not carry items small enough for small dogs and that causes me to go elsewhere. However PetCo is always my first choice. Its no problem for my dog to get a nail trim at any time of the day. On weekends I like to call ahead of time, just to let them know I'm coming, and they very easily accommodate me My dog had an allergic reaction to fleas and one of the girls went out of her way to recommend some products in the store to me, and even what they use in the salon. I get my dog's annual vaccinations here as well and it's super convenient. The wait is about an hour though, no matter how early or how late I come to wait in line, but it's worth it! read more

Petco on Vets is a great experience. I took my daughter there today to purchase items for her fish tank. An employee named Devon was very helpful and very engaging with her. She was very proud to be using hard earned money to buy these items. He talked to her about what she was purchasing and made her feel like a grown up! It was a great experience. I am writing this review specifically for the dog trainer, Amy! She approached me upon walking in, asked if she could love up on my new puppy, and then helped recommend many items. As a new dog owner, this was extremely helpful. We then went back for the free puppy playtime, where she was again wonderful! She was helpful when I asked questions. She was patient with all the pups, and when she had to clean up messes. The store is a bit overpriced on items, but I don't really go for that! She's their best asset!! read more

Petco did an excellent job grooming our dog yesterday! She smelled great and her coat was very pretty and shiny. We added the teeth brushing and nail clipping. I wish they would clip her nails a little shorter, but overall they did a great job! The store is always clean and well stocked with her food and treats. read more

I grew up with labs my whole life so when I decided to get a Great Dane, I figured the potty training and chewing, etc wouldn't be too much trouble for me (It was a real reflective moment of taking my parents for granted). My floors stayed sticky because of all the cleaner I was using on them. I've lost one pair of shoes and extremely nervous I will lose another. Although I've had dogs growing up and consider myself a dog person, the dog people I've met are way more knowledgeable than I thought I was. Amy at Petco has been my saving grace. We went for the first time and I thought, "Okay, one toy, maybe some treats but this place is just a big gimmick to get people to pay for over priced dog stuff." But in fact, I realized that Petco and Amy offer a Puppy Playtime. I could socialize my dog for free and get tips and tricks for helping to train Zak. I would not have gone back to Petco and continue to go there if it was not for Amy and her help training and finding the practical and reasonably priced items in Petco. My favorite addition, she's nearby! If I ever have a situation, I can call her and just drop into Petco. I live right around the corner. I hesitated to post this but I called and complained to the headquarters and have not received any response ... a few weeks ago I brought my dog for a bath to the petcop on Tchoupitoulas . I love the groomers there,they are fabulous but on this particular day no one was in the grooming area when I went to pick up my pup. So I went to the front checkout and was told the manager was coming. I went back to the grooming room and could hear my dog whining. I was worried something was wrong .. so an employee in the fish dept helped me get my dog. As I am checking out here comes the manager and she asks how I got my do and I told her I got him. Well she went ballistic on me ... told me I was not allowed to do that and was reporting me.. that I could not come back. When I asked for her name she refused to give it me!!! She kept yelling and fussing and acused me of breaking into her place. Well my dog was left unsupervised along with others... will never go back and it's a shame because I loved the groomers! read more

I am writing this review for Amy the dog trainer. Amy is by far the best trainer at Petco. She has an undeniable passion for training dogs and is very good at it. She is super sweet and connects well with any dog from a puppy to an adult. She really is something special. She uses positive reinforcement when training and I have seen tremendous results with my puppy as well as other dogs in my classes. My puppy has completed Puppy Level 1 as well as the CGC canine good citizen course. Amy brought out the best in my dog and has helped me train her to be the best dog she can be. Petco did a great job grooming our dog today. Last time we brought her to the groomer at the vet, we ended up bringing her to Petco a couple days later because she had bumps all her backside that she wouldn't stop biting and licking. Petco customer service was so nice they brought us to the groomer and they took a look at the bumps and knew right away it was razor burn. They gave us aloe spray and it immediately helped. I decided that I would bring my dog to Petco to get groomed and I'm so glad I did. The girl that groomed her is so sweet and friendly. My dog wasn't shaking or scared! I recently rescued an adult bearded dragon that was abandoned in an empty apartment. I went to the Petco to get help and supplies to keep him alive, for he was cold and lethargic. The ladies in the front immediately helped me. They were super sweet and helped me bring the bearded dragon back to life. They helped me gather everything I needed to take care of him. He is on a very strict diet for allergies and petco is one of the only places that carries it in New Orleans. Unfortunately this location is always out and the last time the manager assured me the would up the order amount which I'm sure was not done. Dear grooming department at the Elmwood Petsmart on Clearview.... I would actually like to thank you. Months ago, I'd taken my 5 year old dog to your location to get a bath & a haircut. When I picked her up, the groomer gave me a list of vets to groom her because she's "nervous". I thought nothing of it. This morning, I called to set up another appointment, I was placed on hold for a few minutes. Then the young man on the other end of the phone call proceeded to tell me that I could not bring Nola back to be groomed because she was "nervous". I called to different places & finally set a same-day appointment at Petco on Veterans Blvd near lakeside mall. Not only did they bathe her, but they gave her a great haircut! SHE LOOKS SO ADORABLE! Everyone was extremely helpful, in the grooming department & in the store. In addition to spending almost $70 on grooming, I purchased a new collar, new tags, & 2 new toys. Elmwood Petsmart, it is always more convenient for me to visit your location because I live in midcity, but don't worry, I will be going out of my way to visit Petco because of the value you have for long term returning clients. When I picked up Nola this evening, I felt appreciated & even more important to me, they were patient with my baby. Yes, I noticed a difference in her behavior from the two different experiences. She was no where near as jittery tonight as she was when she visited your location. Thank you for reminding me what great service is by refusing it to me. The grooming department at Petco on Veterans in Metairie has become the worst place I have ever dealt with. I brought my dog to get groomed. I picked up my dog, bought him home, only to discover that they did not clip his nails. I called the grooming department, and the girl that bought my dog to me answered. She remembered me. I asked her why they did not clip my dog's nails. She told me that they couldn't do it because they were too long and something about the vein. I asked her why did she not tell me. Her reply " It slipped her mind" and things were "chaotic ". I was the only one in line. How chaotic can that be? She also told me she meant to give me a discount. I told her I was standing in front of her twice. First time was when she gave me the receipt to go pay for the service I paid full price for. Second time was when she handed me my dog. If you couldn't do the nails, that's fine, but to not tell me and to tell me it slipped your mind, Is no excuse. On top of all this, she told me to bring my dog back so they can try to clip them. You just told me they couldn't do it. Also, when I talked to the manager of the store, she blamed it on things being chaotic also. She said I would have to go to the store to get my refund. I am not stepping foot in that store. I will get my discount another way. I hope this review helps others think twice about bringing their dog to get groomed at Petco on Veterans. They sure need to close that dept down. No one is properly trained. read more

The store itself is fine; the groomers have now twice given me back my dog while she's still wet/damp with an un-brushed coat. Today when I got her back she was so overwhelmed and anxious she started reverse sneezing, and when I got in the car I discovered at least one nail on all four paws had been quicked, and none of them had been dremmeled as requested, just clipped. I took my dog here for a grooming appointment. Despite the formality of making an appointment, the grooming salon told me that she would not be attended to for FOUR hours. When I came back to get her, I was confused as to why there was an overeager rodent running towards me. I literally did not recognize my dog because the groomer shaved my malty-poo's 3 inch fur coat to a buzz cut. She looks like she underwent chemotherapy, not a grooming appointment. Moreover, for some reason - perhaps as a cruel joke, he left uneven sprouts of hair around her neck and her face. It looks like a 1990s bowl haircut done on an airplane undergoing turbulence by an individual with Parkinson's disease. This groomer shouldn't be allowed to mow a lawn. I would have paid $50 for them to just not touch her. Definitely will not be going back. read more
