Worst customer service ever!!! Items were on the clearance rack that I purchased... Yet the employees didn't want to give the clearance price... The manager was acting like he was forced to do a price match from a different Petco location because I had purchased the same items on clearance weeks prior at a different location (items were not damaged like the manager tried to make it seem). Petco, McHenry, IL We have a senior Akita/Shepard mix who was in desperate need of having his nails trimmed. Being he's an elderly dog, who is a HUGE baby and absolutely hates having his paws touched we were unable to do this ourselves. We brought him in o the McHenry, Illinois Petco and Savannah S was incredible! She was able to complete this mission that not even our vet can do unless our dog is sedated. Every person we dealt with from the person answering my million questions when I called to inquire about this service, to the cashier, ending with Savanah were incredibly nice and accommodating. The employees of this store, including one of the managers, have no clue as to what they're doing. I was in the store last week looking for a particular cat food, which was out of stock. I asked the male employee up front when it would be back in. He told me the next day. I went in FOUR days later and there still was no product on the shelf. Once again, I went up front and inquired about it. It was the same male employee. He went and got the inventory manager. She went in back and supposedly checked the computer. She came back out and said the shipment was arriving the next day (Wed) and to call in the afternoon to make sure the truck was unloaded and the product on the shelf. I called Wed night and the girl I talked to said shipments come in on TUESDAYS. So who is correct - the inventory manager saying shipments coming in on Wednesdays or the employee who answered the phone saying shipments come in on Tuesdays?! Regardless, there still wasn't any of the product we were looking for on the shelf! I ordered online from another company. I will never shop at this store again. read more

Scheduled a grooming appointment for my dog online. When I arrived I mentioned that I gave her anti-anxiety meds before the appointment as anxiety is an issue for her. I was informed that they could not proceed with the appointment as Petco has a policy and will not groom animals while on medication. This policy is not listed anywhere on there website, nor was it anywhere in the booking confirmation. Total waste of my time as I drove 45 minutes to the store. From now on all of my pet related purchases will go to their competitors. read more

I had gotten home and realized that while I was at PetSmart, I had forgotten 1 thing for a doggie care package I was sending to my brother. Damnit. Instead of driving another .25 miles north again, I stopped into PetCo real quick. The second my foot triggered the automatic doors, I was greeted by 15 faces staring right at me, along with a booming voice screaming halfway across the store: "CAN I HELP YOU FIND ANYTHING????" Holy hell, why is this dude screaming?? "Uh, no...I'm good." "ARE YOU LOOKING FOR SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR?" The voice got closer, as a clearly over-zealous man strode across the length of the store. Damn, how many Redbulls did he pound this morning? "No...just looking.." "WELL, LET US KNOW IF WE CAN HELP YOU FIND SOMETHING!" "O...okay.." So, clearly I walked in on some regional training or walk-through, but damn. Take it down a notch, guy; you don't want to scare or intimidate your customers before they even have their second foot in the door. As far as selection, they had an insane collection of dog leashes and collars, but were lacking in some other accessories (the doggy poop bag holders I was looking for). The layout was alright, though the multitudes free-standing fixtures reminds me of a retail clothing store (Kohl's or Old Navy, anyone?). They also don't offer gift receipts like their competition does. Employees were friendly, but I wonder if they were all hopped up on something (Ritalin in the coffee?), or if they were putting on a show for the management (was the district/regional manager in?), as they were more chatty than I'd EVER seen them. The guy who rang me up started a whole story about how much he loves the poop bag holder I bought and went on a bit of a tangent. I felt bad almost cutting him off when my transaction was over and all I wanted to do was get home and finish packing up my care package. Phew! read more

I am not sure who owns this company but I can tell you WITHOUT hesitation, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT ANIMALS AT ALL!!!! Crowding, low quality care, sick animals. Makes you just want to rescue them all every time you walk in. I feel so sorry for these animals and don't even get me started on the Betta care. Every Petco I have been in is pretty much the same. Most employees don't know ANYTHING about the animals. They hate helping you because they have no knowledge on anything there. This place obviously doesn't have secret shoppers because if they did they would either be out of business or have many more horrible reviews and be out of business soon. As soon as I entered the McHenry IL Petco only one girl asked me for help and when they didn't have want I wanted she disappeared and never saw again, I was there for around an hour and at times needed help and the store was empty, couldn't find a soul. Did find someone finally in front on his cell phone texting away and asked him for help but was clueless. Also a girl finally came out of hiding and I asked if she could give me some information on a tank and she wanted nothing to do with me. I asked her 3 times if she could get someone knowledgable to help me and nothing!!!!! I was so pissed when I left this store. I think I go there maybe once a year because I feel so sorry for the animals and want to see if quality there has improved but never happens. read more

The store leader, Shun, opened the door late although I had an appointment at 8:30pm. He tells me that the door opens at 9pm. He had the worse attitude I've ever experienced at this store. Do you know the easiest way to blow hundreds of dollars? Adopt a puppy from the shelter and then buy everything they'll ever need (and more) from the Pet Store. If you have Petco stock, I think I helped make it go up last weekend. This store was bright, clean and the staff was incredibly helpful with out 1001 questions. The one thing I wish they had was one more person on the floor to help answer questions without me feeling bad that I was stopping them from helping others or doing their job. Maybe a pet concierge? Because as a new pet owner or newly-adopting-a-pet owner...there are a lot of questions you want to know between types of toys, food, bedding, etc. read more

DO NOT GET YOUR DOG GROOMED HERE! The Salon Mgr, Samantha does nothing to make sure that her trainees treat your dog properly; one of her trainees got so much water in my Senior dog's ears that she got horrible ear infections in both ears. Then several months later she lied to me over the phone about an unrelated issue, anyone that gets caught in their own lies shouldn't be in the service industry! Any groomer that lies to me, I won't use and I won't recommend! read more

We have took our dog 2 times and they haven't done a good job. I payed for full service, and they did not cut my dog's hair by his ears, and did not clean his ears. They did not cut his nails at all. The cashier Audrey wasn't very nice to us. She made a comment of us buying cheap stuff. read more

For the second time in 3 months, an order I placed online for same day pick up at the Round Lake Beach store has been canceled. When I place the order in the morning, the inventory is available, and a few hours later I get an email saying the order has been canceled. The first time this happened, I let it pass. This being the second time, I can no longer trust Petco to meet my pet care needs. I feel like it's a gamble as to whether or not the order I place and pay for will actually be fulfilled. As a result, I will be switching where I shop for my pet food and supplies to a store with more reliable service. read more

We waited as we saw an employee help and wait for another family to pick a fish out.. after that I walked around to find that employee cause she never came back after she was done helping that family .. no one else to help us .. we didn't even get a hello I'll be right with you.. so we continued to walk up to the front to find the same employee just ringin a register now when there was other cashiers there all 4 employee up there .. not one person to help us .. unbelievable rude service ever .. so my child left crying cause we couldn't get her the fish she wanted for her tank. I've taken my dog here 3 times. The 1st time they cut his hair too short. The 2nd time he looked good. This last time i couldnt tell the cut his hair at all except fir the 1 leg the hair is jagged. I couldn't take him back because we left on vacation. This was all after waiting 6 days for an appointment. Really not happy with this lack of cut. Probably will search out other locations. read more

I drive past at least one Petco and several pet grooming salons to have Phoebe cut my dogs nails at Petco - McHenry, IL. Phoebe is SO great to not only do an awesome job but to be kind to my dog who is anxious and has bad hips. read more

Visited the store multiple times. First time I saw there was calcium sand in the leopard geckos and bearded dragons cages. I also saw vegetables in with the leopard geckos and that was back in October 2017. I had called corporate a few times stating they had them on sand (which is extremely bad for them) and at first they said they would speak about switching it to carpet (which they have the choice to do). They just told me in January 2018 when I went back in there that they would changed the sand to carpet because they've had more die with carpet then sand? The only way they could be getting under the carpet is if they are not putting it in right. Not only that but I bought a crested gecko for them and in less than a week, it was dead. I've bought plenty of other reptiles from a different petco and none have ever passed away. read more

What more can you expect from a corporate owned pet store? The staff is uninterested and borderline surly. I can understand not being interested in your work, when the pay isn't much. But why are you working at a pet store if you don't enjoy being around animals? The manager was overbearing and disrespectful when I asked a simple question. I was simply asking for a suggestion, not a lecture on what to feed my dog. By all accounts I would suggest staying far away from the grooming salon. Upon entering to ask for prices, I was greeted with a sigh and a roll of the eyes. If it was their goal to stay seated and not work for the day, mission accomplished. There are many better alternatives in the area when it comes to pet supplies, I wholeheartedly recommend seeking them out instead of this store. read more

I frequent this store because it's close to home and often has sales opposite the other pet store in town. Where this store lacks is in the energy and enthusiasm of their employees. There are some familiar faces in the store who are always kind, but generally very quiet. Most often, when you're at the register, the cashier barely says a word, and has a sense about them that they are bored out of their minds and hate their jobs. It's a feeling that makes me want to get out of there as quickly as possible. Today a young man was helping a couple check out, while a youngster was waiting to talk to a manager. In the middle of the transaction, the manager came up and pulled the cashier away from what he was doing to talk about what the other young man waiting wanted. The couple stood there, money out, waiting for their transaction to be completed and bagged, but with the cashier's back turned to them and no acknowledgement from him that it would only be a minute. They appeared very frustrated, and as a customer waiting in line, I was appalled that both the cashier and the manager completely ignored the transaction being completed. The manager could have asked the customer questions, then waited another minute for the cashier to complete his transaction or he could've politely asked the cashier and couple for a minute to gather the information. I felt so terrible for this couple who had their cash in hand and were completely disregarded. In fact, they were so disregarded the customer ended up bagging his order himself. When I got up to the register, the cashier was cold and bored as expected. He only bagged half of my order, and dumped several heavy items into one bag, only adding a double bag when I started doing it myself. I hate to stop shopping here, because it is convenient, but the service is horribly lack luster and often uncomfortable. read more
