I bought my very first Betta fish here about 6 weeks ago. Their selection was pretty good considering they temporarily live in little containers. Some people think ONE dead Betta means the entire store is worth a one-star review! The store is generally clean and not stinky at all. Their parakeets are usually active and chatty. Staff is so-so, but I don't interact with them much. A good selection of aquarium items, though the Westford store does have more. read more

I had the worst experience ever. I would never put a foot in the store ever again. My 3lb Chihuahua was threatening "Katie" to get my nine-month-old dog vaccinations done today because she was barking. I thought it was their nature to bark, but I was wrong. I asked for a refund and she denied it. I asked for a customer service phone number and also was denied. read more

Store is close by and they do have stuff you'll need for your aquarium. Went in to buy feeders and for some reason they can't sell them to you without a phone number. With all the spam calls I been getting I don't want any more calls/text from anyone else. Walked away without anything because they want my phone for advertisements and spam. Went to PetSmart in and out in 3 mins. The service at the aquarium was great, quick service, but the bad experience at checkout is the reason for the 3 stars. read more

I don't like corporations, at all. This being said, the aquarium crew here is phenominal. I can only speak to this department, but they are very knowledgeable, genuinely passionate about their craft. Their freshwater fish are healthy - I know because I fully acclimate, dump, and then just dumped their fish -water and all- into my aquarium and have never had a problem. Even their salt water side is healthy. They have a variety of healthy reef frags and the Marine fish are very healthy. These guys got me into this hobby and I owe my success in it to them. They truly won't steer you wrong. read more

Don't like the automated voice system to try to get the grooming department. Already left a message day before, no call back and had to leave another. The online booking is horrible. Also, once they got rid of our favorite groomer, all but a couple are good. Go back to live, in person for answering phones, even customer service doesn't answer. read more

I don't even know how to start this. this is my first time writing on yelp because I think it's kinda dumb but I feel people should look at this. I bought 4 guppies and a grommie from here and they all died but one guppie in the spand of 4 days. all other fish in my tank are thriving so it's not my tank. I also bought two snails and 4 neon tetras, 2 of the 4 tetras have died. now this is what upsets me most. I have had my beta for about 5 months now, it's been thriving with a very clean 15 gallon tank. by itself (it's a male) with many hiding spots, a heater and a filter. I put two snails from this Petco in its tank 3 days ago and I came home today to my beta dead. although it may be a coincidence I find it very hard to believe that. yes, they have an awesome selection but that's probably because all of the fish will die or will kill your other fish. extremely disappointed and upset. I love my fish and I can't believe my beta died because of some stupid snails from your store. read more

I have been a loyal Petco shopper for years (7-10). Last few months it's difficult to find anyone to help you. I was patiently waiting my "turn" for assistance. After waiting approximately 20 minutes for assistance a customer walked in and immediately requested service. She was waited on before myself and other waiting customers. Employees should be aware of waiting customers and their dress code should not include sagging pants and colored dew rags on their head! I spoke up and as I was next to be helped and was told they would get to me! Very disappointed with the quality of the employees and the laid back attitude toward frequent customers. I will no longer give my money to this establishment. read more

Gotta love it when they promise you a surrender and you tell them you'll be back in a couple hours you just have to move some fish around and then literally 2 hrs later when you walk in the worker tells you the manager gave it to someone else because my tank wasn't set up? Excuse me my tank was ready to go I had to move some fish. Whatever I just won't shop there again. I bought a bag of dog food last Saturday 8/15/2020. The food looked expired, hard. My dog went 6 days without eating. I called over to Petco on 08/22/2020 and was advised to bring the food in to exchange it. When I arrived at Petco the male employee with cowboy boots on informed me "what would you like me to do?. You can not exchange food like this in a trash bag." I advised him I was told I could and Petco has a 100% return on food if something is wrong with the food. He went to get the manger who informed me this was okay and to go get a new bag. I came back with the new bag and he told me I owed a total of $6 - 9 and some change (not sure of the exact amount). I replied I am doing an even exchange. I should owe Nothing. "Also, I did use 2 coupons (pals reward and manufacturer coupon), maybe this is why?" He reassured me, No, you owe the amount. I asked him again to get the Manager.  He did not find Jessica in her office or up front of the store. As he walked away and turned down the aisle I watched the male employee take his left and right hand and make a gun with his trigger finger and thumb and point them to his left and right temple and look at Jessica and they LAUGHED TOGETHER making small talk (talking about me). When Jessica arrived up front she stated it was due to the coupons and actually I was to be given 0.06 cents back. She gave me my change. I WAS HURT AND EMBARRASSED IN FRONT OF THE OTHER SHOPPERS. WHEN I DID NOTHING WRONG. OBVIOUSLY THIS EMPLOYEE WAS NOT TRAINED CORRECTLY. HE SHOULD NEVER EVER TREAT A CUSTOMER THIS WAY, NEVERMIND THE MANAGER GO ALONG WITH IT. On my way out I confronted the two of them. Told them this was disgusting and I watched him turn the corner and make 2 fake guns impressions and this was not okay. They both just stared at one another back and forth and I exited the building.  I NEVER RECEIVED AN APOLOGY AND I AM DISGUSTED AND I WILL NOT RETURN TO THIS STORE. I was taking my dogs there for grooming until they fired the only good groomer they had working there. There is one groomer that made snotty comments about my dogs and even refused to groom one simply because she whined. Since the good groomer has been let go I have gone bqck to my previous groomer , think twice before bringing your animal to be groomed here. read more

The Customer Service for the vet at this location is atrocious! My Mom called to ask a simple question and the man that answered the phone was incredibly RUDE. He intrupted her, talked over her and in the end was super unhelpful. I would not recommend this location at all! read more

This place is horrible. I been looking into getting a saltwater setup, and figured I would go to a close store to when I was ready to start up. Not one person said a thing. As my son and I walked around the fish area the employees were just walking by and not saying a thing like they didn't wanna be there. An the lady or should I say girl I asked a question to just gave me a smart one word answer to my question and walked away. But the employees where all laughing as they were walkn next to each other and joking across the isles. I just found it not be a professional run place. This 5 star is not just for Pet CO, but for the vaccine clinic that they host there every few months. There are two professions that really have you by the b**ls when you need their service, Dentist and Vets. Just like a unscrupulous dentist drill unnecessary cavities, some vets work over their customers wallets with unnecessary vet "visit" fee. This location is super OK. Everything was well organized, and relatively clean. There was really no one out on the floor, though, which was weird. I thought maybe they were on register, but then when I went to check out, there was only one person on register with a pretty long line. Then the guy ringing me out scanned my product in wrong and had to call a manager. The line built up behind me, and the manager came over fixed it and left. Leaving this poor guy alone with a long line of people. Nothing horrible, but I've 100% seen better from Petco. read more

Highly disappointed. The location near me closed, so I drove an hour out to this Leominster location for Superworms for my juvenile bearded dragon. There were about 15 cups of medium worms, 35 count, with no worms in it. Just empty worm carcasses from them eating each other. I was looking for a 70ct, so had to purchase two 35s. Turns out there were 21 worms in one container, 11 in the other. For $4.00 each?? Are you kidding me??? I pointed out to the cashier that just about every container of worms was filled with dead bodies and a gross smell, and he said, "I guess they forgot to check them yesterday," and just kind of shrugged his shoulders. I paid $8.00 for less than one container of worms. Does no one check the products? You would think the workers would take care of the living food a little more, but I guess not. Alongside the 15 cups of medium worms was probably 40 containers of large worms, also dead. Please review your inventory, check what you have on the floor, and CHECK EXPIRATION DATES. The date on my container is October 10. I purchased them November 10. Disgusting. Will probably never go back in my life. read more

This is one of our favorite stores, basically because of the grooming area. Every time we have had to bring our dog in for her nails to be clipped and buffed, they always take care of us in a timely manner and the employees are very friendly, as well. read more

My heart goes out to the pet owner of Chi Chi. I am sure it is a rare occurrence when these things happen. I wonder if a licensed veterinarian was on site when this happened? If not shame on Petco for practicing medicine without a vet. Some years ago I left my dog at this Petco for a haircut. When I picked him up he could hardly walk. My vet told me he damaged his neck due to some sort of strain. At Petco they use tight neck collar chokies to keep the dog positioned on the cutting table. The farther from the post the dog moves, the more it chokes him/her. My vet guess is my dog was left unattended for a period of time, he fell off the side of the table and it damaged one of his upper back discs. My little baby lived with neck pain and paralysis the remainder of his life (6 more years) Petco continued to deny any fault for this. So please be careful where you leave you pet. Ask yourself, would you feel comfortable leaving your child there. If not find someplace else. read more

I am writing a review on Amy the dog Trainor for this Petco in Leominster. Amy is amazing and is truly the best part of Petco. My husband and I took "puppy 101" very recently. We have a baby St. Bernard who has proven to be a bit of a handful. There were three puppies in class and we couldn't have been happier with Amy's knowledge, expertise, and her ability to manage what could have been absolute chaos among the three puppies. Amy was as wonderful with the puppies as she was with the parents. She gave all of us the attention to issues and problems we were having and assisted us with Petco products, services, additional training classes. She is a great representation for Petco and I do hope that someone sees this review and commends her successes. Amy is outstanding in every way and her passion for Gods creatures is quite amazing. This petco is ok. It is very disorganized and hard to find things. I can never find any employees to help. When they have dog training, they close the dog toy aisle and do the training right there. I went to buy some toys and couldnt even do that! The pet smart is far better. read more

Even though it's a chain, this particular Petco feels like a small private owned pet store when you walk in the door. I believe this is the largest pet store I've ever been in, even compared to other Petcos. The people who work there are thoroughly knowledgeable about the products and willing to offer suggestions. read more

It's a chain but as far as chains go it's decent. The pet smart place MUST BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS!. Look, I don't have hte cute furry animals in my house, I have snakes, lizards, creepy crawlies and such. People like us live through a stigma due to our love for hte not so cute animals. But this place caters to everyone! Petsmart on the other hand does not sell feeder animals. THEY DON"T SELL THEM PERIOD. They feel it is inhumane to feed an animal another animal... WTF!!! these people are in the wrong business. I have yet to find a snake that is willing to live off of vegatables... let alone eat one at all lol. I'm an aquarium dude, so I know my fish. Today I went in and searched and searched for someone to ask about their stock of fish. I finally come across three teenage girls SITTING on the floor of the fish department wearing their Petco shirts and sipping STARBUCKS. This isn't an exaggeration this is what I saw. When I asked if they had any Cherry barb fish they all looked at one girl and she says "ahhh no" without ever making eye contact with me. I never write reviews but I had such a bad experience there today. This one store has turned me off of Petco all together, PetSmart a mile down the road is the place to go. read more

If you love your dogs, do not take them to Petco grooming! They kept our nine year old retriever for over four hours to do a one- hour job. They said they would give her water, but it was in a water bottle (she has no idea what a water bottle is!) She came home dehydrated and thirsty. She wouldn't eat. She is limping, and when we called them to asks if something happened they told us nothing did. We now have to take her to the vet. A very upsetting experience read more

I hate the groomers at this location they complain all the time every time I bring my little 8 pound dog. They complain because she cries when they do her nails they complain when she cries when she's away for me my dog literally does not bite anyone unless provoked she doesn't go to the nail salon very often but the way they act because she cries is so unprofessional. One day I got to the point where I just told him to stop it forget it and I still got charge for two things that didn't even happen. I was visiting from out of town and needed my dog to get groomed (just a bath, brushing, and nail cutting). I had no problem making an appointment for a Saturday afternoon, and even called the day of to see if there had been any cancellations so that I could bring my dog in earlier, to which they said sure! I get there and the grooming area is a MESS. There were piles of dog hair all over the place and it just stunk. I know it's a place where dirty dogs come to get clean, but I have never been to a groomer that smelled so badly. I had to wait 20 minutes to check in my dog because they were so busy. I brought in my dog's vaccination records and the employee gave me a hard time because she thought there was no date on the vaccination record -- I had to point it out to her and she was still confused. 2 hours later, they call me to pick up my dog, and she looks nice and clean but doesn't smell good at all -- she usually doesn't smell very dog-like, but this time she did. I was listening to the groomers talk and what they do is this: after the dog is checked in, they put them in a kennel. They then wash the dog and put them back into kennel to air dry a bit. Then they dry the dog and put them back in the kennel. She literally smelled like a dirty kennel after we picked her up, to the point where we had to wash her again ourselves. Needless to say, I will be taking my dog to a groomer that actually keeps their work space clean and produces clean smelling dogs. read more
