I had a very disappointing experience today at the Kernan/Atlantic Petco grooming salon. We had a 3:30 PM appointment for our 5-month-old Shih Tzu puppy, Harper, for a bath and puppy nail trim. We live about 45 minutes away, so we drove a long distance specifically for this appointment because our puppy's nails had grown too long and he needed a trim. When we arrived, a supervisor told us that the groomer (Jenny T.) was behind schedule and could not take our appointment. What was extremely frustrating is that no one called us beforehand to let us know they were running behind or to offer to reschedule. A simple courtesy call would have saved us a long drive, time, and gas. Instead, after arriving, we were told our puppy had some matting and that we would need to take him to a vet to have it removed because they were not comfortable bathing him or even trimming his nails. I understand safety policies, but the situation was handled very poorly. When I expressed frustration about driving 45 minutes only to be turned away with no notice, the supervisor responded with a rude and unnecessary comment: "I'm not sure how you do things at your job, but that's not what we do here." This was completely unprofessional and dismissive. Rather than offering solutions or showing empathy, I was simply told her boss Lance would be there at 7 AM the next morning if I wanted to speak with him. Because of how poorly this was handled, I canceled my VitalCare Puppy membership and all future grooming appointments. After this experience, I will not be returning to this location for grooming services. This could have easily been avoided with basic communication and professional customer service. Instead, we were treated dismissively after driving nearly an hour with a young puppy who genuinely needed care. Very disappointed. read more

On Friday 2 Jan26 these people gave my dog a washing, the works and it cost over $83. By supper time an old scare (5 years old scare) started bleeding from where they evidently scrubbed my dog to aggressively. Saturday morning my dog's left eye lid was bleeding. I am not sure what they did to my dog during her bath but to be honest my dog is family and the individuals that did this to my dog doesnot want me to come in there and discuss this with them. It would not go well for them. I will go back to washing my dog. I can't trust these people. I also have no problem in not recommending their service. read more

Worst Petco ever!! Brought my Gran Dog for a bath, and holiday indulgence. It was $68.00 for a bath, nail trim, and teeth brushed. My appointment was at 1 pm. I Went in and was greeted by a happy girl with long dreadlocks and a smiling face. She introduced the groomer, Morgan, who checked us in and updated medical and rabies information, etc. She said she would call when he was ready. I went on my merry way. Pick up: I received a text he was ready. The same pleasant, dreadlocked beauty rang me up and charged my Amex card. Then the groomer brought out my 12-pound, little grand dog. At first look, I could see his nails were not done. She said he nipped her and she couldn't do them. So, the first young lady with the dreadlocks said she would try she took him back and trimmed his nails. I put him in his car seat and noticed he didn't smell any different. He smelled the same which is weird he's a small 12-pound chihuahua normally after a bath he smells terrific, for days. His breath wasn't fresh either. I'm sorry but, maybe he did "nip" her and she decided not to bathe him, brush his teeth, or anything. I would have been fine with that. But, I'm not fine with paying $68.00 for you to not do anything and pretend you did. Like I would not notice, or I'm just not important enough. Like I don't matter. I know a clean dog isn't important but honesty is important. Honesty is very important. I called the store and was told there was no grooming manager. I asked for the store manager. The store Manager, Lance was off and I was given to Lisa. Lisa said she could not hear me but she gathered I was complaining about a groomer. She suggested I call Lance, the manager tomorrow because she can't help. Lisa was the store assistant manager. Next, I called corporate and was told by a very pleasant young lady she was sorry. This was the only apology I received, she said she would forward my complaint to the district manager. Still waiting on that call from the district manager. Still have not heard from Lance, the manager, or the district manager. Not holding my breath. I don't want the return of my money it's already spent. I do want honesty, respect, and accountability because I do matter and we all matter. read more

Thanks to Petco for making my pup Toby snowy white again! My husband and I take our pup Toby monthly to Petco to be washed and groomed. He's an 8 lb Maltese that needs constant attention. His hair is long and grows very fast. If his hair is not blow dried, then he smells like terrible wet dog odor. His teeth get brushed, ears get cleaned, his paw hair trimmed and his nails get cut and buffed. They also sculpt and trim his facial hair to look like a teddy bear. They cut his hair with a level/ grade 2 razor and leave an inch all around his body. We spend anywhere from $40-60 depending on what we are having done. Typically, I just do a bath, which typically costs about $40 but if they are doing a cut it will cost extra and the price will be more around the $60 range. Honestly, we enjoy dropping off our pup with Petco and can't wait to see him after he's left the groomers all soft and fluffy! I don't come here often but my fur baby is sick today and I needed to. Looks like a new store since I was last here! Parking was easy, I pulled right into a spot to the side . The store requires masks and has hand sanitizer at the entrance. As a medical provider, THANKS! The store was so clean! Very welcoming! Where do I start... We moved to Jacksonville in July and had brought our doodles in to get groomed. We had an awesome groomer at the Petco grooming in Escondido Ca but here it's been so sad. We brought our little guy in and I was like ok. He is fine. But with our goldendoodle and bernedoodle they both came out looking like shit! I mean shaved down, yes she was matted but she didn't need to look naked from head to tail. Yesterday we brought in our big guy and he had some mats but they shaved him down too. This time he is covered in razor burns. We also noticed that they were charging additional things that they didn't need to charge for like if your getting a hair cut then why charge more to shave them??? We have been vital care members for years, our dogs don't deserve this and the prices clearly don't match the service. They need to find a grooming manager asap and get the girls back in training for doodles. Shaving them down isn't acceptable. read more

Do not have your dog groomed here. I've been coming for 3 years and the service has gone downhill lately. They never answer the phone and don't return messages, so you have to just keep calling periodically until someone answers the phone. Today I attempted to drop my dog off 15 minutes early to get to a meeting that was rescheduled today (too late to reschedule my dogs appointment) and it's never been a problem to drop him off 10-15 minutes early. After waiting for 5 minutes at the counter I asked a store associate for help. That's when the "salon manager" came storming in from outside, starts off with an attitude before even knowing what the problem is, and then decides she's not going to service my dog. Her only points were that I'm early and the appointment wasn't for another 10 minutes. So you have a super flexible schedule and like being talked to rudely, this isn't the place for you. The lady has no business being in "management" until she has conflict resolution courses, she escalated a situation that didn't even need to be a problem. read more

Stephanie was especially informative and even took the time to answer any questions I had about at-home grooming products, toys, crates, and provided additional information on Thrive, Petco's affordable vet care. This was some of the best customer service I've had compared to going into PetSmart earlier that day. There were three female employees at the front counter, chatting together, and there were three female employees, standing near the bird cages, having a personal conversation and all looking at a cellphone, as we walked past them. We wandered through the fish department, didn't find what we wanted, and then we left the store, passing both groups of employees for a second time. Not one of these 6 employees made any effort to communicate with us, even to say hello or goodbye. Every time I come to this store they have an issue with something. This is the first yelp I've ever wrote, but the most recent experience is what set me over. Over the phone, my roommate and I are verbally telling the grooming department that we want to schedule an appointment for a hair cut. We are dropping off my dog right before plans that are on the way. I get there and she claims we said nail clipping. We know for a fact that's not what we said, I have never in my dogs life gotten her nails trimmed anywhere but my house. She tells me they don't have any openings for the day to even give a bath. The one reason I really like this Petco (where the pets go!) Store is because they support local adoption groups. Many groups have adoption fairs here on Saturdays. The staff is always very friendly and willing to help, particularly when you are trying to lift a large bag of food or a dog crate into your cart! They also always find me a coupon or discount when I come to the counter. The only negative about this store is its location - boo Atlantic v. Kernan and the construction that never ends. I give five stars to both groomers for the care they showed my dogs. They didn't however follow my directions. I took the time to show where to shave my girls neck on the throat..they cut the back and I did not ask for that. They did not comb through thoroughly right by the ear opening, and I question whether they washed it because the hair had ear wax on it. The boy had similar ear hair not combed through and tangled. But the only issue that matters is they did not tell me they cut the girls nail too short and it bled. When I got home there was blood everywhere I understand accidents happen, but I should have been told. I also said only to use the nail sander and not clip their nails. My guess is that's why they cut too short. The groomers are caring and that is important. But when I tried to convey to mgmt that this should be a teaching moment, he was only interested in hearing himself talk and disrespect his groomers by saying he'd give me my money back. The groomers worked long and hard and they deserve to be paid. All I asked is for them to listen and learn and do better. I asked to speak with district mgr and called 3 times.. This petco location has the most uneducated grooming managers. I took my dog to be groomed and she was refused for a minor skin irritation and because of the way she snorted. They were concerned about a heart issue. My dog is a pug and their smushed faces make them snort almost like a little pig. She doesn't have a heart problem.
