The employee named Melissa who works at this location is extremely rude. I was in there earlier and my dog (who is still a puppy might I add) had an accident. I cleaned it up with the spray and paper towels that they provide and went along my way. Melissa came up to me a few minutes later and told me my dog is a problem every time I go in there. The last time we were there she told me he had 3 accidents in the store which I don't believe for a second. I ALWAYS pick up after my dog!! She shouldn't be working at a store if she has an issue with pets having accidents considering it's a pet friendly store. Also, she stood by me to make sure I cleaned up the mess which was absolutely ridiculous. She treated me like I was a child. I took my dog to Vetco vaccine clinic for the first time at Hingham Unleashed today. I received multiple appointment reminders by text with clear instructions which was very nice. About 45 minutes prior to the appointment, I received a phone call from Florida number (company is apparently based out of FL) asking about my dog's basic info and which vaccines/tests I want. Then I was given the estimate. I appreciate the heads up. When I entered Unleashed, he was weighed and we were escorted to the back of the store to the examination area. We did not have to wait long before being seen by the wonderful and caring veterinarian and vet assistant (Dr. Hoskins and Latrease, per the visit summary I received). They both were so kind and good with my nervous and shaky dog. Dr. Hoskins answered all my questions. I had to wait about 15min for the test results and visit summary. I shopped for my canine baby's treats while waiting and ended up getting three bags of goodies for him. They had very nice selection of healthy treats as well as supplements. Once things were ready, everything was thoroughly explained by Latrease including follow up for 2nd lyme vaccination, and we received a long visit summary that had all the info pertaining to the visit as well as the prescriptions. We paid for our visit and the treats and walked around the shipyard a bit. When I got home, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that I received an email from Vetco with visit summary and prescriptions. I love that they do this because it makes it super easy for record keeping. When I booked this visit, I chose Vetco at Unleashed because it offered the earliest possible appointment for our dog to receive rabies vaccine which expired a month ago. I called a few veterinarian clinics including the one that we have been going to previously and I was told that the earliest appointment available is ~1 month out or they are not accepting new doggy patients. I am so glad I tried Vetco vaccine clinic at Unleashed Hingham. The care provided was superb and it was very well organized. I highly recommend this place!!! Bad experience trying to wash my dog I visited the store a few weeks back to wash my dog. I go to this location and the south Weymouth one all the time and I asked beforehand about the washing stations because the store was recently made over and I wasn't sure the washing stations were open. I was told that yes they are open and the price is now $20. I had been washing at this location for years prior to the conversion at a price of $10, so I wasn't thrilled by the doubled price. The girl told me I could take as long as I needed to however. I went early on a Sunday thinking most people like to sleep in. When I arrived I realized that they were having the health clinic so it was already busy but the washing stations were free. I was instructed to just go back there, wash and pay later. I was not familiar with the washing machines that control all the water and soaps so it took me a short while to get it working, others were also asking me how to work them because no signs indicated how to do this. There were also no signs indicating a time limit. My dog is a border collie who is a service dog. It's important that I wash him because he is a sensitive dog and is extremely bonded to me. Shortly into our wash a staff member asked me if I was finished, I replied no, and was surprised I was asked. A few minutes later she returned to ask me again and I replied again no. She said well there's a 30 minute limit! I said I was not aware of this and my dog needs more time to finish washing and drying him. This is also because the soap was watered down in the machine so I had to keep squeezing my own soap bottle, and the towels were so small and thin I couldn't effectively dry my dog. Not only that but there is nowhere to remove your wet dog and move to a drying table because this doesn't exist anymore. They expect you to dry your dog in the wet tub. Soon after another staff member by the name of Cathy, short woman with short black hair, approached me and insisted I leave the washing area. I've encountered her before and my sense of her was that she was not very friendly in general. My dog is still wet and I was not told that there was a limit to time, he's a service dog and I'm trying to get him dry before we have to go to work. I was not told of a time limit and for double the price I expect to be able to at least dry my dog. She replied "times have changed. You'll have to come back another time." I replied, then I will pay you $10 not $20 because I believe I received half of the products and services needed to wash my dog. She replied" I'd be happy if you just left and didn't come back." I was floored by her caustic remark! What horrible crime did I commit on her or anyone to warrant me being told to leave and not come back??? I have spent thousands of dollars over the years from multiple pet products to extensive training for my dog on his way to service dog and this is how Petco treats their customers? I was very upset by this. I called customer service several times about this experience and this individual who really owes me an apology for her rudeness and a reprimand if she is any person of authority in this store. I was contact via phone by the store manager who sounded like she was twelve and had no ability to address my complains and concerns other than to say "sorry"once and then tell me she had to get off the phone to work the register. Poor poor service all around. I have many friends in other stores and my dog knows the grooming staff well at the Weymouth location. I can't believe what a difference in customer service I received here!! What a ri- off that washing station is now. It used to be a place where I could tend to my dog with love, gentleness and patience. Petco and this member "Cathy" have otherwise made it a hostile place where I was literally told I am not welcome anymore, which doesn't sit right with me. I hope upper management addresses the many issues I had with this location and their washing station. Especially now everyone can read about this incident here. I must say, I love the staff over at this location. They are always so kind and helpful. However, I must say the renovation staff needs to do a better job. Today, two days after opening of the new self wash, we went to take our dog for a long awaited bath. The water was scorching hot! There is no way in hell that after over a year of renovations that there should be any problems upon opening. I understand that this is not the on hand staffs fault, but my first impression of the new renovations is not a good one. I hope and groomer and the vet won't have any problems as well. Ten bucks and you can wash your own dog! Not bad if you ask me. If you have ever tried to wash your own dog in the bathtub you'd probably pay more than ten bucks just to avoid the drenched bathroom and clean up after! My dog is crazy and attempting to give her a bath is just as easy as finding world peace, determining what came first - the chicken or the egg, or nailing jello to a tree. You know how there is always the screaming baby on the airplane or the kid having a tantrum in the grocery store? Yeah, I have *THAT* dog when it comes to giving her a bath. Unleashed offers a do-it-yourself bath option for $10. Seriously, that is a bargain compared to other places. It's a relatively easy set up -- get the dog in the tub and there is a variety of shampoos and conditioners available. Towels and aprons are provided and there are also de-shedding plastic scrubbies to help exfoliate the dog. What's nice is that this particular set up is always clean and there were plenty of materials available. The staff were a little sparse in terms of asking questions -- pay now or pay later. Oh well. Regardless, FloJo needed a bath and here we were. Unleashed is a boutique-y version of Petco so the store offered all your standard pet supplies. I asked one of the staff if she could recommend any chew toys for my dog, who is a very aggressive chewer when it comes to toys. Seriously, I've considered getting used tires for her (in a joking way, of course, but you get the point). She recommended some Kong plush toys which weren't exactly "cheap" per se. One toy lasted 2 minutes before we even left the shipyard before Flower totally ripped it to shreds all over the backseat of my car. We will stick with the rubber Kong toys from here on out. Bottom line, if you need to give your dog a quick bath, this place is great because it's $10 and you don't have to worry about wrecking your bathroom in doing so. As for everything else, it's a standard pet store with your standard Hingham self-entitled customers (yeah, I'm talking about the lady that stood in front of the door on her cell phone complaining about how many dogs were in the store and how she was worried about ruining her Tory Burch flats). If leaving your dog in the car was safe and not frowned upon, I'd be at the bar nearby after this experience. Note to self: to avoid sparse service and crappy customers, go on a weeknight. read more

Can't beat the $10 self-wash! They supply the Shampoo, Conditioner, brushes if needed(though most have a bunch of hair/fur on them, so you might want to use your own), towels(don't seem to be the cleanest and feel pretty rough!). They have straps attached to the tub, if you don't have a leash specifically for the tub. You pretty much figure it out yourself though. Not sure how often the tubs are actually cleaned, I was there a good 30-45 minutes and saw a few different pups come and go, with no staff ever walking by the self-clean area, the bottom of our tub definitely had a bit of fur build up. Overall, the staff seemed friendly and in the end, I had a clean, nice smelling pup, with none of the clean up afterwards! Other than putting back the shampoo and conditioner I used....boggles my mind that people just leave it all over the place when they're done, at the very least, put back what you used in the proper places, you have to past the shampoo cart to leave! read more

I stopped in to get doggie some new food -- I've been giving him the supermarket stuff and decided that he deserves something a little higher quality. I don't generally shop at Petco because I don't find the employees to be helpful and the store can be kind of ick but this place was super clean and the employees were super friendly. For some crazy reason, I didn't get a carriage and decided instead to hoist a 30-lb bag of Blue dogfood over my shoulder. Realizing I wasn't done shopping yet, carrying around this big bag I must've looked pretty ridiculous. A super friendly (I just said "super friendly' again, I know) employee came over and offered to bring the bag up front. I graciously accepted. I grabbed a couple more things (pet safe ice melter and greenies for pup's stinky breath) and went to the front. The same dude that carried my bag rang me up and was pleasant. Then he did something awesome, he didn't ask -- he told me that he was going to carry my dog food out to my car for me. No, he didn't offer to grab a carriage so I could bring it out myself, he threw it over his shoulder and went for the door. (This was out of pure kindness, standing at 5'8" I don't particularly look 'weak' IMO, anyway.) He carried my bag out to the car, chatting the whole time. Maybe it was his plan but he kind of sealed-the-deal that I will be back here. What a great concept! This store has only been open a few months, but has already become a community spot among pet owners. The best part is I really don't think it takes much business away from Maggies in the center, because her selection is limited an different. What I love about this place is it is very clean, and a great layout with a training area, doggie water fountain and the best of all... a $10 buck self clean bathing area in the back! I bump into people all the time that I know there and lots of regular dogs go in to get their weekly treats from the staff. Speaking of the staff... they are amazing! Very knowledgeable, etc. My dog got skunked and they helped, they always show care for the dogs and recognize the ones that come in a lot. They also have a great buy three items get the fourth free. Its good quality stuff and my dog loves the yoghound frozen doggie ice cream! The staff is awesome...very friendly and very knowledgeable. They have a self serve dog wash area that's just a brilliant idea and there always seems to be smart owners taking full advantage of it. I'm pretty sure I saw a couple bring in some kind of dog that Im certain was a grizzly bear on a leash... My single complaint is that the selection is limited because the store is small. I made it very clear to the sales associate how destructive my dog was and how I think she would destroy the toys that they offered. She assured me that they were durable and would not be a problem. I got the toys home and within 1 hour of playing with each toy they were completely destroyed. I am not sure if they were trying to make a sale or the sales associate was not knowledgeable, but she clearly said that the toys were durable, and durable toys should last more than an hour. read more

After several more trips here I went to the larger version in Quincy last week and realized how much I hate large chain stores. I can't understand why I always have to wait in line in a store with 20 employees and never have to wait at Unleashed where there are only 2 people on duty at a time. I adored this store when it first opened. The self dog wash is a great idea and the store carries terrific products. However, my last few visits there left me with a very bad taste as the staff is just so unfriendly - in fact downright rude. There is a middle-aged gentleman who works there who makes me so uncomfortable, he's just that rude and unsmiling. I wish the store would get back to the way it was when it first opened, a happy team and a happy place to visit. Our dog gets a bath about once a week - so we're here a lot! They have a nice selection of food, toys, etc. Only the higher end brands, but since those are the kinds we buy anyhow, it works for us. Mostly we go for the dog baths. There are four tubs and one dryer. We've only ever waited a couple of times. Having used the kind of pet washing systems where the shampoo comes through the hose, I have found that I prefer that type of set up, which isn't what Petco uses, and their shampoo doesn't work very well for our greasy, stinky hound, so we end up bringing our own. But the fact that they're open in the evenings means we can take her after work if we need to, which is a big plus, and it's only ten bucks. Staff are always friendly. Also, clean restrooms! (A plus when you need to change a screaming baby in the midst of washing your dog...) read more

$10 for a wash and the clean up is on them? Sure! There are 4 DIY wash stations with shampoo, conditioner, and towels. Towels were a bit old and in all honesty, I'm not sure how clean they were. They are washed but there is still hair and dirt caked on them. Blowdrying option was essentially a loud vacuum. We ended up walking around the store to wait for our pup to dry off. The selection of treats and toys is good though the prices are a little on the high side. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful and, having a puppy, tried to push their training classes. They have 3 trainers and classes are limited to 3 dogs which I think is great for younger pups. Prices for the 6 wk classes are similar to PetSmart. The makeshift training area is a bit small, but I really only care if they are effective. We're likely signing up so will return with a review of that shortly! read more

My dog, Rex and I love the Unleashed by Petco in the Hingham Shipyard. Its conveniently located between our home and the local dog park. So if Rex goes swimming or gets muddy or slobbered on by another dog at the park we head to Unleashed after. Stopped by here for my cats food that everyone is suddenly out off! They said its out of stock from the warehouse! I hate that. I still ended up buying other foods. The sale person was not as friendly as some of the other unleashed stores. But perhaps she was just having a off day! The store looked nice, clean and organized. The one thing I like about shopping at Petco verses other pet shops is the reward dollars. I love how I can just load it up in to my phone and it automatically takes it off at check out. read more

We have had only a couple of experiences here but they have all been great. Doris and Eric set me up with training for my Cane Corso puppy. Can't wait to start the lessons. They also have a dog wash section where you can wash your pup for ten bucks. We haven't tried it but looks like very good idea because it is higher up so your back won't get as stressed like washing your dog in traditional bath. My kids like to watch the dogs getting bathed. They get a kick out of that. read more

To say the least it was a chaotic mess. I had to use my own collar and leash to make sure my dog didn't jump out of the tub. This is our go-to spot to give our anxious pup a bath. They recently raised their prices, while allowing the bathing room to become disgusting. We were there last weekend and there were a few empty shampoo bottles filled with water to use and that's it. We couldn't finish our pups tub in the basin because the water was clogged past his feet. The tub adjacent to ours had poop floating in it which poses a huge health hazard and the employee who was in there cleaning was just sweeping hair off the floor (the smell was undeniable). They don't put out towels anymore so when I walked to the front to get some, I was handed 2 and had to ask twice for more. Our black lab isn't getting dried with two hand towels.... I was so disappointed by the filth and we spoke to 2 people at checkout about the conditions and how they could justify charging $15 for that and they just said "sorry, that is gross!" We may give them one more shot, but this place has gone very downhill. read more

I really like the 'small store' layout/feel. The salespeople are very friendly and helpful. The trainers are also great - and the Puppy Playtime is perfect for socializing your dog!
