I managed to book a same day dog grooming appointment, which is rare for most groomers and places. Hung out with my dogs for a bit, then set off to Petco. We got there pretty early so the groomers were still on their lunch breaks. So I let my buddy walk around Petco several times until it was time to go. My groomers name was Cassey. She approached my dog in a very calm and friendly way, because she could tell my dog was very nervous because he already knows what it means when he sees the noose like leash in their hand.. it means bath and hair cut. I mentioned to her that we were from Hawaii and that I didn't bring any paperwork and she told me not a problem, it's all in the system since you've used Petco for a lot of things back in my home state. Which is true. An affordable and friendly vet? Sign me up! Anyways. She asked me how I liked my dogs fur trimmed and I told her I used to just say puppy cut and feathering but she mentioned she isn't 100% sure but she'll do her best. Since I gave her very limited preferences. Less than 3 hours go by and I get a voicemail saying my dog is ready and I drive back about 15 min total. She brings him out even before I paid (some people make me pay before my dog can come out of their crate. I laughed at his ears. My dog always looks like Edna mode after a groom. I can't complain about the groomers or employees, but I am so done with the Vital Rewards program. I deleted their worthless app after I realized that after earning a free grooming, the award had EXPIRED! I get my dog groomed every 2-3 months. I was never informed on the app or otherwise that my earned groom would expire in 30 days!! You don't save any money with the Vital Rewards plan. It's simply a way to make the corporation more money, especially if you don't use them before they, too, expire. *Update* So, great, they respond to my review. Unfortunately, like so many US corporations these days, they have farmed out their customer support to a country where English is a second or third language. I called the number and had a very hard time understanding the nice person who took my call. Her English was passable, but all the background noise made it a chore to communicate with her. She informed me I had a coupon available, but only on the app, which I have uninstalled. Funny, no coupon was visible today when I checked my rewards in the app before picking up my dog. I scheduled a bath for my dog a week ago, my appointment WAS tomorrow at 10 am. Instead what happens is I get a phone call saying that they can't do it anymore, that the groomer has to go take a test to be able to groom dogs! ITS A BATH! And guess what if your groomer can't do it... the manager steps up and does it, so you don't lose clients! You can't just cancel someone who is already booked. Like what the hell? They offered 3pm instead... As I get up at 2am for work, I am unable to do that. Ugh read more

I have purchased fish here recently with some very lovely and helpful interactions. Nikki and another petite girl were knowledgeable, helpful and fun to talk to. Unfortunately one of the fish I purchased was a butthead (well known personality trait by those more in the know than me) and it killed one of my fish. I called the store on Wednesday, let them know that I didn't really care if I got an exchange or a return, I just didn't want this guy in my tank. The girl I talked to said she understood and to go ahead and bring the fish back on Friday and we could exchange it and to just let the store know I talked to her. I walked in and mentioned her name and the employee looked at me like I was nuts and told me they didn't have someone by that name (turns out I called the wrong store - whoops!) but she said I could talk to their manager and go from there. So I walked back to the fish department and just hung out there, looking at the fish. Eventually the assistant manager came back with the butthead fish. We discussed the fish, that I had in fact got it from there and, having a bad habit of jumping in before people finish their sentences from time to time (I'm working on it), I pointed out the tank I got it from and name dropped the employee that helped me. The seemingly irritated or indifferent manager, Ash took the fish in the ziplock bag I brought him in, put him in the tank, turned the lights off and walked away. I was left standing there, unsure of the next steps. A minute or two later he appeared at the other end of the aisle, grabbed a box and again walked away and I heard him opening it and unloading it. I walked to where he was and spoke to his a** (the only part of him I could see) and said, "I'm sorry is there somebody I could talk to..." he cut me off with "give me a minute" (apparently I'm not the only one with that unfortunate habit). I walked away completely taken aback by the disdain he clearly had for me, given we had never even met before this. I stood by the fish and he came back over and asked which fish I wanted, I told him and he walked away to get a bag. I had a question about the fish and decided, against my better judgment to ask. I did, and he reluctantly turned around and clearly didn't have time or energy for my annoying customer needs. He did seem to table SOME of the irritation he had for me and answered my question but unlike other employees I've worked with here, he had no desire to elaborate. Apparently me coming in, during store hours, while he was unloading boxes was entirely too disturbing. Ultimately, he got the fish and okay'd the exchange, which I appreciate. While I was checking out, vowing to not frequent this location again, Kaitlyn (sp?) whom initially was the employee that thought I was nuts, had a delightful exchange with me, chatting about other fish and catastrophic couplings in tanks. She was pleasant, smiled and I enjoyed talking to her and I even let her know that while the rest of my visit was not enjoyable, she in herself, was. Hopefully Ash was just having a bad day or one of his facial piercings was simply pinching too hard and he'll wake up tomorrow with a better outlook or even the dawning of knowledge that he works in customer service and amazingly, how he engages with customers, actually does matter. read more

It shouldn't take 1/2 hour to buy pet food that I picked up in less than 30 seconds after entering the store. I had to go to my vet 1/2 hour drive) to get a script that allows for "vet recommended" (ie: more expensive) food for my pet. Then to Pet o to purchase it. When checking out I was informed they couldn't verify a script and Id need to go to their in- house vet to get a card. The manager I asked for help from was sullen and dismissive. The system is pretty dumb. Why the hell would you need a script for animal food anyway?!Altogether unhelpful. 20 minutes later still standing in line to even be helped initially by this seemingly incompetent organization. Took our 8 month old black lab here on 11/22 to get his nails trimmed. We took him when he was 6 months old with no issues. It clearly states on the app that you can take them for just nail trimmings as a walk in, attached a picture below. I understand if they are busy then come back or wait but no one was there, it was right at opening, They made us make an appointment for 1.5 hours later, only to take our dog in for less than 5 minutes, to come back and say "he wouldn't hold still and stop moving his paw so we can't cut his nails". By far the WORST place for grooming your dog. First time I bring my PWD in for grooming it takes them 2 days! I had to pick him up and bring him back for them to finish the grooming the following day. The groomer tells me "yeah your dog had a bowel movement" as to explain away why she couldn't finish. I find this interesting since he's never sh*t himself at the groomer before. Then he developed a UTI over the next couple of days requiring a trip to the emergency vet. I think they had my dog pinned up in a crate in his excrement. The people working here look like they are on drugs or just pure trash. The second time I bring him in this obese woman proceeds to tell me "you're early" and you need to have all interaction with your assigned groomer. That was it. Won't be back. read more

Good help is hard to find! This Petco used to be our go to store for things we needed for our dogs and aquarium supplies. We started coming here in 2008 when first moved up to Gresham. Located right off of Burnside and Hogan and near the Walgreens. They have a good selection of dog and aquarium supplies. They also sell fish and small animals. There is plenty of parking spaces available. While there is a good selection of fishes like Tetras, Barbs, Cichlids and Goldfish they are NOT well cared for. There are a lot of dead fishes in the tanks and also diseased fish. From my observations it doesn't seem like the fishes are well cared for. The last time we bought fishes there the sales person was less than friendly. She didn't take the time to answer questions nor was informative about the fishes being sold there. Another time we went there all of the lights in the aquariums were off. It was only 7pm and they didn't close until 9pm. They do have a good supply of dog food and treats. The pricing is reasonable with a good selection to choose from. There have also been times when we have visited the store and the inside of the store was not very clean the floors were dirty and not well kept. Overall, we stopped coming here due to the staff being less than stellar, and the store not well maintained. I am hoping they do a better job of training their employees and keeping the store more clean. read more

There are huge advertisements that nail trimming is a walk in and you do not need to make an appointment although this location you do because I have called 3 times now to make sure I can bring my medium size dog in (45) pounds to get her nails trimmed but I am told she is a large dog and that most of the groomers there are unable to handle a 45 pound dog to do a simple nail trimming . The people are very very nice but need more groomers that can do all the requirements of the job. read more

Peppy loves going here to get groomed. He joyfully jumps up to give his groomer a kiss. She, the groomer, is very friendly and often gives me helpful tips on how to keep peppy looking and feeling his best. We highly recommend the PetCo grooming experience. read more

Petco is a big box retailer that sells pet items of Chinese manufacture. Each store looks the same. I could take a picture of one location, and upload it to every other Petco listed in Yelp, and no one would know the difference. That being said, they do offer some personalized services. My dog took obedience training at Petco; twice - she flunked out the first time around. They have you train your dog in the store, amongst shoppers and other dogs and little dog toys - which they put right at doggie eye level, just like the Captain Crunch is at kid eye level at the market. My dog was fascinated by the fish, and couldn't navigate the fish section without completely breaking down and smearing her nose on the glass. They also offer grooming services, which I use often because my dog, in her natural coat, looks like a yak - yep, remove the horns, and you get the picture. They always do a nice job and the price is reasonable. If Petco sold more sustainable, and domestically made goods, I'd give them another star. read more

It's about as good as a pet shop can get. I realize this place has received lots of negative reviews but my personal experience, after several visits, has been above average positive. No problems with the staff at all. All of them were responsive and considerate. Very little no waiting for assistance. Today I needed a few aquarium fishes bagged but no one was present at the fish room. So I asked the nearest Petco worker organizing the shelves to get someone for me. The aquarium department is far better maintained than Petsmart with healthier stock. Within few mins, less than 5mins, someone approached and within 10 mins everything done; I was out the door a happy camper. My healthy neon tetras are happily swimming in my home tank. For healthy aquarium fish selection and service they are highly recommended. read more

Took my dog to be groomed, showed a picture of her previous grooming and it was the opposite. As short as she could be cut without actually shaven on her body yet her face was long they said they spent 15 minutes on her face but she was upset. The ladt grooming she had she was fine. If that was the case then I'll take that but she still had eye goober I had to pull off. When I called the groomer told me they can get tears in minutes I said I had to pull it off. Rude Rodent Lady We would come here once a week for our pet supplies (a dog, 2 cats and a bearded dragon) purely out of convenience but not any longer. Now Pet Smart gets our money. Wanted to adopt a hamster for my foster daughter as its nearly Christmas and right now she literally has nothing to call her own. She rudely just said "No, because she's not with you". I'm an adult buying for a child in my care, she is a child so why would she have to be there with me? It's not a surprise, she was expecting a hamster to help her transition to a new life. Just because you are a large national chain, that doesn't mean that you can just be jerks or rude to customers. We may not spend a large amount of money, but we spend ...spent...there consistently. In what world is it ok for an employee to make a joke about the appearance of a customer? That is rude in any social situation, but when we are there to actually give you our hard earned money it is especially reprehensible. It is none of your business if someone is having a 'bad hair day'. If someone IS having a bad day, having some clerk point out that they think someone looks like it will only serve to worsen the situation. I've been going to my local pet stores and trying to post flyers, asking for donations. A lot of pet stores and organizations declined helping me fundraise for his surgery. Petco in Gresham has been the only place that has responded to my cry for help! Pam is a lovely woman who I've met there, she is working so hard to help my cause. We took our very rambunctious 19 week old puppy--Old English Sheepdog--for a grooming. Oh my!!! Cassey did a FANTASTIC job with him and with us. I had a specific idea of what I wanted in the groom so he will start looking more like an OES and I was concerned for her as he is a nipper. She let us know that they like to have a lot of time with the little ones so the puppies can have multiple breaks so they don't get stressed out. We got a call at about 3.5 hours asking if it would be OK for them to take more time as he had required more breaks than they had expected. When we picked him up he was absolutely adorable. We were so happy with the whole experience that we scheduled his next visit already!!! I can't say enough good about Cassey and the grooming crew a Petco on Burnside in Gresham!!!
