PET OWNERS BEWARE- Pet owners should be aware that this Petco location knowingly sells expired food, arguing that it's simply a best by date. Went to purchase Just Food For Dogs frozen food our dog, as we are traveling and this is the only location that we can purchase the food. When I notified an older white make employee named Mark, he was indifferent about the expired food, calling me a liar before arguing it's simply a best by date. The food expired 5 months ago. When I followed up with a manager, a young white female who stated her name was Jordan, she gave me a nasty attitude, dismissing my concerns about the food and how Mark handled the situation, stating she wasn't there so she didn't really know what happened but that I should have a good day. She was snarky, short and quite rude. Neither Mark or Jordan thanked me for informing them they had at least a dozen expired frozen packets of JFFD on their shelf, just nasty attitudes and dismissiveness over the seriousness. It should be noted, a local friend picked up two packets of JFFD for us the day prior and told us she had noted the expired food. The staff is not checking product and not removing expired product. read more

When she finally helped me I asked for a snail and she had to go through over 40 snails to find a live one. I have a 300 gallon pond. I have been looking for a tricolored butterfly koi fish for over a year. I stopped in to get feeder rats and found they had the tricolor I was looking for. When a young gentleman asked if I needed help I told him what I wanted. He said he had to go get someone who was acquainted with this type of fish. A female employee shows up a couple minutes later I tell her excitedly that I wanted the tricolor koi. She starts asking about my fish tanks. I tell her I have a pond it will be going into. She starts to tell me she can't sell me the fish so I ask for a manager. She comes back a couple minutes later with a manager to tell me that it's too cold outside and they can't sell the koi fish. It may be February 1st but it is unseasonably warm at a sunny 56 degrees. Secondly I try to tell them that I have an INDOOR pond which serves as a nursery/hospital tank for any new koi as you should never just add new fish to an established pond without knowing the health of the fish, but she absolutely doesn't want to hear anyone other then what the offended employee had already told her before she even came out to see what I needed. If you don't want to sell certain fish during the colder months then you shouldn't carry them. Secondly. If all you are going to do it hear the employees and NOT the actual customer then why even pretend that you have any sort of customer service. I currently have 3 ponds, 2 outside and 1 inside. None of which is any of their business. I also have a 55 gallon tank that houses a Snowflake eel. This eel has a particular diet. I have shrimp, snails and other small inverts in the tank with and he will not eat them. I have tried brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, silver sides, feeder good fish. He won't eat any of them. But he absolutely loves the black mollies. Yes he's a salt water fish. And if you educated your employees they would know that mollies can, will and do live in salt water. I asked for mollies for my eel and they refused to sell them to me as they aren't allowed to sell any kind of fish as a feeder? But you sell rats to be fed to snakes. You sell tiny gold fish to be fed to other fish? The amount of self righteous ignorance shown by the employees and management in this location is disgusting. I go into this PetCo every 2 weeks to get rats for my snakes and hopefully catch the right person working in aquatics to get the fish for my eel. I will be taking my business to the PetSmart down the street from now on. read more

Horrible customer service! I went to Petco in Fort Collins to buy some fish for my aquarium. I have been standing and waiting at the aquatic department for more than 7 min and no one was helping me. There were 3 employees that walked by me, looked at me and didn't ask if i needed any help. Horrible customer service! I finally walked up to one of the female employees and asked her if she can help me with the fish or if she can page someone to help me get some fish. This female employee looked like she got annoyed. Horrible customer service! I walked up to the cashier counter and this female staff name Anna was on her cellphone. I walked up to her to pay for my fish and Anna didn't even greeted and asked if I found everything I was looking for. She rang up my fish incorrectly for $3 each. I told her that these fish cost $2.50. Anna seemed to get annoyed. She ended up fix my transactions. She handed me my receipt and didn't not apologize nor thanked me for shopping at Petco. Horrible customer service! No wonder this store has terrible ratings. Poor management! The store manager needs to train their employees better! read more

It's unfortunate how neglectful of customer service, inexperience in handling animals and lack of education Petco provides. Please thoroughly research the animal you are buying and DO NOT take Petco workers care guidance as fact or only care knowledge. They used to have article handouts for information on care for any animal that were someone informative, but one of the workers told me they just stopped making them for random reasons not known lol and that the employees "should know all the information" even though they get hardly any certifications. It's just not a great organization and do your research people!! I recently got gerbils and was given a ton of false information on care, same thing when I got my turtle and bird. read more

Terrible customer service. Took my dog to get her nails cut, she bucked twice because of fear and they immediately gave up and refused to help. They were very rude to us and snappy about the situation when I saw the whole thing. Would not recommend their groomers at all! Steer clear of this place for grooming dogs because even in the past my puppy's nails were not cut well enough for 20 dollars. Only went back because I live close to the location. PETCO HAS AGGRESSIVELY CONTROLLING MAN as manager APPARENTLY. I come into this store at least 2 times a week never had issues coming into the store. Birds love jazz music so I usually play a song for them to help with their anxiety. Which if your employees doesn't care about the animals in their care then they shouldn't work around animals. But my phone was sitting on top of the cage playing very light jazz music which ended falling where I couldn't react it and this bearded man grabbed it and said I'm going to ask you to not do that again which I have no problem with. After I was done with my workout I came back to say hi for a few minutes to the parrot. And I have something called a flowstar which I've found that birds like so I did a few spins for him which he loved and as I was doing this that same bearded man came and said quote " I arleady told you once today to stop messing with the bird" which he did not. And that's when I pointed out that he didn't say anything about not being around the bird. And I stated that he didn't have to be aggressive when he doesn't know how to communicate properly and he yelled at me to leave as I was leaving. read more

I generally shop at poudre feed, as it is local and smaller. However I do shop at Petco for instacart. And I took my dogs to petco and did their dog training 7 years ago when i first got them. When i come in to do instacart for people, the store has a large variety of cat and dog supplies, treats and food. The store is generally well stocked every time i have been in. The staff is always friendly and they are always helpful in locating items. Dogs on leash are welcome to come in as long as they are friendly. When i did come in for a years worth of dog training, I loved the classes and the instructors. One dog we did all the levels of training. It was very worth it. My dog who went through all the training is very well behaved. My other 2 only did one session of classes and they could have used some more. read more

It's ok but both bigbox stores have downsized their offerings over the years. Poudre pet has a decent selection but not all the food options either so we have to go to the bigger stores occasionally. I'm appalled! I was at this petco for maybe 20 minutes. While I was there multiple dead fish, crickets on the floor. However the worst was a gerbil in a box and FOUR HAMSTERS IN ONE BOX. They were just sitting there in a cardboard box no bigger then my hand. We found a worker and told them and they only took away the gerbil who was about to escape through a hole it had chewed. So I took the hamsters to the front and asked for a manager. The manager then told me that a worker put them in the boxes and then went to lunch and forgot. Then she just walked off with the hamsters. No remorse or anything. Such cruel treatment of animals. Then u witness a worker tell the manager about a hole in a bag of food and the manager put a receipt on the hole to cover it. That food was going to a costumer! This is ridiculous! Poor excuse of management, staff, and care of animals. Do better petco! read more

I have never written a review on Yelp before, and I know that makes me look bad, but I couldn't let this utter atrocity I witnessed in the Saltwater aquatics department go unchecked. Holy crap, I was and am still appalled at this utter negligence and seeming lack of any care/knowledge from the staff. Some background: The mandarinfish (pictured) is an insanely hard fish to keep alive in captivity. They only eat two types of microorganism (copepods and amphipods, for those interested). They DO NOT take well to eating prepared food in captivity. There are numerous sources citing this fact across the internet. If you are housing a mandarinfish, you need to provide them with an appropriate food supply, or they WILL starve to death. Many aquarists choose to remedy this by setting up what's called a refugium - a small separate tank, attached via plumbing to the main tank, for microorganisms to safely reproduce without being eaten by the mandarin. I go into Petco and I see a mandarinfish set up to acclimate in their wall of saltwater tanks. Dread creeps down my back, knowing that poor fish is doomed to starve, alone, unless Petco has a refugium set up to their saltwater filtration system. I ask an employee in the aquatics section how their filtration works for the saltwater fish section, and she tells me verbatim: "Um, they all lead down into stuff in the bottom." She can't give me any technical knowledge, instead opting to look at me like I'd grown two heads when I went to ask more questions about it. TL;DR Petco is rather cruelly neglecting a beautiful saltwater fish, condemning it to death, because it does not have an adequate food supply. Employee clearly had no idea what I was talking about when I tried to tell her. Unless an experienced hobbyist decides to adopt this fish out from its awful Petco prison, it WILL die. read more

I have 4-125 gallon fish tanks and go into the foco petco every week as you might imagine. I spends so much money and time there that I have really gotten to know the great associates. The they had a new employee named Chloe start there and she is the most rude person I think I have ever had to deal with. Since I go in there so often I get stuck with her every now and then and it always ends with my whole family leaving in discust and pissed off and now being able to buy what I need at the time. She has actually refused us servus for no reason yet another employee is selling the same thing I needed to another person. So rude and unpleasant to go in the store when she is working. We are considering not shopping there especially since the manager won't return my calls. They have great deals and some great people but she is destroying this store. Go shop a different store if you need fish supplies! read more

Employee refused to sell me feeder goldfish because according to him the 3 gallon tank I was putting it in wasn't big enough.... A 29 cent goldfish... yet there were a hundred or so crammed in the tank in the store so by his logic he was severely mistreating the fish. He also had no issue with sending them home with someone to use as bait. I spoke with the manager who saw no problem with this employee's logic.... I will absolutely NEVER set foot in a PetCo store again. read more

Rodent Buyers Beware!!! We bought 2 guinea pigs at the Fort Collins, CO location. within a week one was at CSU vet on the weekend and had pneumonia and be euthanized. We were told that if we brought back the other one, they would take her to their vet to be seen. This was NOT done. They kept her for 4 days and observed her and decided that there was nothing wrong. We do have her back now and will be seeing Raintree soon. The GM Mateo is rude, and doesn't care about what the loss of a pet does to young kids. They are traumatized and still worried that she's sick. They receive guineas weekly, no idea if they quarantine them before putting them out as the employees couldn't answer that when asked. Did we get our money back for the guinea that passed? yes and due to the lack of female guineas around the area we had to get a 2nd again from Petco, but that will be the last time we step foot in the store. read more

In my dog's lifetime, we have lived in seven different states. Each move comes with finding a new groomer that typically takes a few bad haircuts before we find the right fit. When I moved to Fort Collins last month, I was desperate for a groom for my pup, Leila. I called around town and no one had anything available within the month. I had tried Petco in another state and it didn't go well, however, my dog was way overdue for a groom and Petco had a next day appointment. We were beyond surprised that we picked up our dog with a perfect haircut. Taylor in the grooming salon is AMAZING! We cannot believe that we found such a skilled groomer through random chance our first try in Fort Collins. My dog is sweet, but I can't imagine how she acts during a groom. She is a terrier! I'm sure she puts up a fight. Still, though, Taylor somehow has given her the perfect cut twice now. Thank you for your attention to detail and kindness to my little girl! read more

I went to the fish department and waited for someone to help. When no one showed up after 10 minutes, I went to a bored looking cashier who had no customers and asked if someone could help. She said she would send someone over. When no one showed up after another 10 minutes I left the store and noted that the same bored looking cashier still had no customers. Brought my pup in for a haircut and was told due to a mat on his ear that they weren't able to give him a haircut due to a possible medical issue that can happen? I was told to call my vet so I did just that and was told by my vet that I was straight up lied to, they've never heard of anything like that happening and from what they said it sounded like they just didn't want to cut his hair, I scheduled this appointment weeks ago and had to get the morning off work, also would like my poor dog to get a haircut, definitely not coming back after this experience. read more

The customer service here is terrible. The people here are unfriendly and just plain rude. I had called about the price of something and then decided to come in and buy it. The price was not what I was told and the manager literally yelled at me. It's not even that the product was more; if the employees could have been a bit more friendly, then I still would have purchased it even though it was more than I was told. My only complaint with this location is the disappointing lack of rabbit supplies. I couldn't find the appropriate grooming tools for my bunny and they weren't retailing Oxbow brand timothy hay, which is far and away the most preferred brand and product for rabbit owners. The cashier at the register was excellent, really well articulated and friendly, and she helped me set up a rewards card. I'll come back here for pellets and litter. Cute selection of birds but by no means a diverse selection. Fish selection is basic. Snakes are cool when they are there but often times there are tanks where a sign says new pets coming soon. Either the snakes and lizards are popular or it takes then a very long time to get them. Usually has cute hamsters and gerbils in stock. read more

I usually take my little SHIH TZU to get groom here at this Petco, but this will the last time I take her here, Let me start by saying, these people that work in the grooming department are plan out rude!!!!!! They over charge me, and didn't complete the job. So, I ask if they can take some money off the bill since they didn't complete the hair cut around my dogs paws and they didn't even clip her nails. I went to this store to buy a thermostat for my ball pythons. When I asked the employee of they sold them he acted completely shocked that I'd need one because he thought they were only used with big time industries. The under tank heaters that ball pythons and most snakes require to properly digest their meals need to be 90°. Those under tank heaters while not plugged into a thermostat can heat up well over 100° which will burn your snake. On top of the man having no knowledge about the thermostat the condition they have for the ball python is terrible. They need humidity and should not be on shortly substrate. Colorado is a dry state therefore they need a substrate that holds moisture way better. It's sad to see such a big company neglect their animals as well as the employees not being properly knowledgeable about the proper care of the animals. read more

Beware of dog training classes. I signed my dog up for 6 weeks and asked before hand if it wasn't working out could I get a refund. Was told it would be up to the trainer. The trainer, after two sessions, was going know where with my dog and so I decided to ask for a refund. I paid $275 for the 6 sessions. I should have received $175 back, but was told because I stopped early I would only get $154 back. The manager said he could do nothing about it as this was Petcos policy. So I have a dog that is 14 years old and has not been doing very well for some time. She was taken there 6 months ago but has lost alot of weight since then. She stopped eating and drinking. She stopped coming out and not wanting attention (not normal for her). So while calling to ask about information about Dog down. We just didn't want her to be in pain anymore me more. Did not think it was fair to her.. So while calling the call center to get some information, The lady proceeded ask the same question over and over and making her feel as if she was doing this horrible thing. This lady made it sound like we dont know our dog that we have had for 13 years. This is already a hard thing and she made it worse. When trying to call the manager To talk about the incident. We were transferred to the actual vet and she was helpful. The vet call the call center manager and stated that he would give us a call as soon as possible. 4 days later this has still not happened happened and he is avoiding this period period I would not recommend these people as in they do not make things easier And make you feel like you are mistreating your dog. read more

You would think that having a grooming appointment wouldn't end poorly, but mine did. So much that I didn't even get the appointment done. I have been waiting weeks for this appointment due to nowhere having any availability because of COVID-19. I usually get my dog groomed at Pet Smart, but Pet Co had an appointment sooner, so I went with them. That was a big mistake. I went to go drop my dog off, and not even 10 minutes after I leave, the reception lady calls me to tell me that they can't groom her because my dog doesn't like the kennel. It's like they're not trained to know what to do with the dogs that they're in charge of. There are probably so many dogs that don't like kennels, but if a dog doesn't like it at Pet Co, they just cancel the appointment and make you come back. I have never had a problem with Pet Smart, and I will never be returning to Pet Co. Also, there was a dog getting groomed that was yelping in pain and it was "normal" to them. It's really interesting to see how a grooming salon could care less about the animals they take in and their owners. Now I have wasted my time waiting for this appointment and have to wait for a couple more weeks to get another appointment because they don't know what to do when a dog doesn't like a kennel. My dog just barks when she's in a kennel and maybe paws at the door and you don't know how to deal with that? Maybe get some more training and understand that not everyone can't wait several more weeks for you guys to get your act together. Super disappointed and will inform others on how poorly this service was. Do not recommend Pet Co grooming whatsoever! read more
