She often rushed through things. She didn't have an awareness of how to teach human adults, by saying something , show something, say it again in a different way, show it again slowly. She said it once, showed it quickly then expected us to do it. She would show something, then have us go do it while she talked with her friends she brought in. She didn't pay attention to her students. She only offered help when I was struggling if I asked for her help, she didn't notice when people were struggling. She was stern and not approachable. She said she had lots of experience training. Perhaps that was true but she needs to work on people skills to be a group dog trainer. This intro class was designed to rush us through a program of a bunch of different things every time so that maybe we felt we learned a lot and got our moneys worth, rather than make sure we had important things down really well. The instructor said that after we finished the class we could come in for open play. I called and left a message about this twice but no one called me back. The place was freezing cold in the winter and smelly. I've heard other people like this place, but I won't go back. I also read the review about a woman abusing a dog here and people being rude. Big fat NO.

The instructors are all dog-savvy people, with experience ranging from service dog training, therapy dogs, obedience, etc. If you should find yourself in a class that doesn't suit you for whatever reason -- you just don't "click" with the trainer, you've got a little dog and all the other dogs are big, etc. -- they're very accommodating in allowing you to switch classes. They also offer more advanced training classes, including obedience and agility. There are also drop-in classes for those competing in conformation, obedience and rally, as well as private consultations for those needing to work on specific issues. The CLC also offers Doggie Daycare 5 days a week -- actually, I think they were the first doggy daycare business in town. Since the CLC's philosophy is based upon a well-trained dog being a happy dog, their daycare services are more structured than perhaps elsewhere. It's not a doggy free-for-all -- dogs are reinforced for good behavior, gently corrected for bad behavior, and have structured play times and quiet crate times. If you have specific concerns about your dog -- e.g. one of my poodles has terrible separation anxiety -- they can work on it for you while your dog is at daycare. The bummer about the CLC? It's way on the north side of town, not very convenient for where most people live & work. The building is older and in a neighborhood that can be somewhat sketchy at night (not that I've had any sort of problem there).

We still have some work to do, but we're learning to deal with his issues with positive reinforcement. It's a lot of work, but so worth it. We're learning training tools that we'll continue to use with all our pets for the rest of our lives! Because, really, we (the humans) are the ones who need training, right? After talking with several dog behavioral experts, with a working dog with aggressive tendencies, they need to be trained with the mentality that the owner is in charge and making the decisions, for the dog to follow lead. Additionally, when I started taking him to group classes, Canyon would lunge at all the participants. I asked Sarah multiple times to have 1:1 sessions and she continued to make me go to highly stressful group sessions. For the amount of money I paid, that shouldn't have been the response. I have since realized that they no longer do group trainings as they found them ineffective. As such the training program did not work for Canyon, and I am extremely disappointed because I invested a lot of money. I am going to have to pay for new training, and have asked for a refund to help pay for the training to get my dog the help he deserves, otherwise he would need to be put down. The owner refused my request, even though the program didn't work. Which goes to show you that they are driven by money and not the well being of the dog.

It wasn't until I met Lisa at All About My Dog that I finally learned the tools that I needed to train my dog. I first called on her to help me train a ~1 year old…read moreSaint Bernard foster who was almost surrendered because the owners didn't want to take the time to train this beautifully sweet Saint. She was very stubborn and I disagreed with my mom's preferred method of training using "corrections". And the training I learned/used for my dog wasnt working for Mia since she was so stubborn and my dog was/is so eager to please so quickly picked up training. So Patty came over and gave me a hand and after an hour and half session, Mia was learning how to sit on command. Patty showed me some tips and such on how to get Mia to pay attention and make the sessions "fun" for Mia's breed and to get her attention and motivation up. Mia was then quickly trainable and in the 30 days we were given to get the dog trained, Mia was sitting on her own, doing down stays, and her recall was improving greatly! I have also called Patty for some behavior tests/issues my 2 year old border collie/malinois mix was doing for me. Honey likes to bark randomly and when people come by or simply walk by the house, so called Patty to help me with trying to get Honey to settle down a bit in that regard. I'll probably call her back to help some more once I get into another place without as many dogs and different rules regarding barking. She helped me see that I needed to give honey another distraction when I expected guests so as to help with Honey's anxiety levels which also contribute to her cause in barking. She even let Honey keep the puzzle ball she used to help reward/distract honey while we worked with her. I have also called Patty to help me with Honey's recall. She is one of those dogs where you give her that one little inch, and she will take a foot. :) so have to stay on top of her. Honey is also an agility dog, so I needed to strengthen her recall as we had an attention/recall issue in our first trial. So Patty met me at a nearby park and helped me get honey's attention and recall improved and honey has greatly improved in basic coming when called (she was good before, but like i said, slack off a bit and shell take advantage), and has helped greatly in the agility "ring". Hopefully will pay off when we do our next trial next month (October), where the objective is to at least finish 1 of our 3 events (we didnt get to finish our 2 last time because we ran out of time and/or she got too many "off courses" cause she would get distracted and walk away from me! Overall, I highly recommend Patty. She is very personable, rates are good, uses positive reinforcement (ie treats/rewards) and comes in handy for those "touch ups" that dog's sometimes need. I obviously cant say much in regards to puppies/no training at all and need multiple sessions to learn the basics, but for dogs with some training that need touch ups or behavior consults, Patty is definitely handy. I also like the fact that its one-on-one. So no need to pay for a "session" to acquire the same lessons in a group setting with minimial attention given to you and your dog. She makes sure you know what you are doing and feel comfortable before the end of your session(s). And I have called around to a few places/people and Patty's rates were by far the best for private one-on-one training.

I brought my dog, Lupo, there during a medical emergency while we were traveling from North Carolina, and what followed was one of the most traumatic experiences of my life. We were already in a state of panic, far from home, trying to make the best decisions we could. Despite that, there was a profound lack of communication, compassion, and transparency throughout his care. We were never offered the option to stay in any rooms, just to rest for a little. Being 45 minutes away while our dog was critically ill created unnecessary distance during the most important moments of his life. The most devastating part is that we were only contacted when things had already taken a severe turn, and that call was not a supportive update, but a frantic, high-pressure conversation where I felt like I was being almost yelled at that he needed to be euthanized immediately. There was no sense of guidance, no compassion just urgency without support. We were not called earlier as he declined, and we were not given a real opportunity to come and be with him in time. Because of this, I lost the chance to have any meaningful final moments with my dog. By the time we were involved, he had been intubated. That was not what I wanted unless it was absolutely necessary as a life-saving measure, and it ultimately robbed me of being able to hold him, comfort him, or say goodbye in a way that had any meaning. That is something I will carry with me forever. When we last saw him, he was placed all the way at the bottom of a cage. It felt impersonal and distressing given how critical his condition was. There was no sense that comfort or dignity in his final moments was being prioritized. To make matters worse, a necropsy (autopsy) was performed without our explicit consent. This was incredibly upsetting and felt like a violation during an already devastating time. The lack of clear communication and consent around something so significant is completely unacceptable. After his passing, the handling of his remains and the lack of communication continued to cause harm. Because of delays and inability to reach anyone, his body was not released to the memorial service we had chosen in time for us to receive his ashes before our flight home. We were forced to extend our stay, rebook flights, and incur additional expenses... all while grieving the loss of our baby. I understand this is a teaching hospital and that not every case has a positive outcome. But communication, compassion, and respect for both the patient and their family should never be optional. At no point did I feel supported, informed, or prioritized as his owner. Lupo was my world. He deserved better. And no family should have to go through what we experienced here. There was no compassion in here. There was only a severe urgency to give us a large bill.

They truly care about you understanding the training and although you work in small groups they work with each dog / & their owner separately as necessary. We are only 2 weeks into the training which last for 15 sessions but are excited to register our 2nd dog as soon as our Jaxon wraps up his training. Their fees are more expensive than other dog training classes but it's 100% worth it as it's training that will serve our dog and our family for a lifetime! Bella is a very sweet and loving dog but she barked aggressively when anyone came near our door, let alone knock/ring bell. Any change made her nervous and jumpy. A visit to the vet would cause anxious behavior for a week after each appointment. Other dogs made her nervous even though we had socialized her from a very young age. When walking she would stiffen whenever another dog or children were near by us. We have always exercised Bella a lot and that helped but never eliminated these issues. Then I read about the Fort Collins Dog Wizard online. I was just hoping to improve her quality of life a little... I never imagine or dreamed of the results we would get. Cullen did a house visit to assess Bella. He sat at our house talking calmly to me about Bella and her personality the entire time he ignored Bella. After the first ten minutes, she was begging for his attention but he still let her have her space. I couldn't believe the calming presence he brought and he hit all her scary buttons (a man with a hat). After talking to me, he said he thought they could absolutely help her. We sent her to them for three weeks and she worked primarily with Maddy. We visited Bella a week into the training, we got our first training session, and we were already amazed. When we picked her up at the end of the three weeks, we received more training and very clear and strict instructions on how to continue the work. Maddy visited us at our home in the coming weeks to assess Bella and help answer any questions we had on techniques or progress. Once you've been through the program there are graduate classes that you and your dog can attend for free every Saturday as well as a Facebook group for graduates to share/ask questions and you can always contact Cullen, Jess, or Maddy. Six months ago we had a dog that freaked out if a car door closed outside our house, UPS truck drove by, or anyone came to our house. Last week on Halloween our doorbell rang and door was knocked on all night and not one peep from Bella. She sat quietly on her place and enjoyed her evening. We have dinner parties with lots of loud laughing and moving about and she calmly lays on her bed until we let her come off and then she enjoys the attention from our friends. Her quality of life is so much better and now everyone can see her sweet and loving personality instead of a barking, scared dog. My only regret was not finding the Dog Wizard sooner.
