PLEASE READ ! if I could give a zero I would! My husband and I trusted this place when we kenneled out dog for about a full 5 days. She was healthy and happy when we dropped her off. When we picked her up, that was not the case. she was lethargic when we picked her up but we thought maybe she was just tired and was decompressing from the stay, but she did have a little bit of weez to her breathing. The following day she had a full on cough (still does) and a confirmed case of kennel cough. I called the kennel and spoke to someone named Kelsey and told her what was going on and she said that the owners were out of town but they would call me the following day. I had to call back three times to finally get a callback from the owners. The only concern from the owner was that I did not leave a bad review for them because I would be putting his business and his employee's jobs in jeopardy. He did not offer to compensate her stay, he did not offer to help with the vet bill, and was not even apologetic about our dog being so sick. They had to have known she was sick and when I spoke to Kelsey, she said that she could not confirm or deny if any other dog had came down with kennel cough during the same time that she was staying there so they aren't even telling other pet parents that kennel cough is going around at their kennel!!!!. To top it off, not only did they not tell us she was showing signs of kennel cough, we brought her home where she was reunited with her 13-year-old "sister" If we would've known she was sick we could have kept them separate and prevented the spread of kennel cough in our own home. After this experience, I did some digging and not too long ago they lost a dog, and it has never been found! Please think twice before you use this facility! NEVER AGAIN! read more

Refused service because policy changes surrounding dog aggression. My dog had boarded there in the past with absolutely no issues. Prior to a previous stay, I mentioned that my dog is protective of her home and owner, she was allowed to board and had no issues with behavior during stay. Under new policies she is flagged and not allowed to board. New policies are not noted on the website, as it still says they are willing to take dogs of all temperaments. They do a great job on their website of selling a level of K9 expertise that is apparently not present read more

I looked at several boarding and training facilities before I selected Mountain State K9 Academy for my two German Shepherd rescues. I made the correct decision, and I will be with Mountain State as long as I have dogs. My first impression was of an immaculately clean and odor free facility with caring handlers who obviously love what they are doing. I chose a multiple week training package for both dogs who arrived with minimal handling, training, and social skills. Both dogs were terrified of human contact, and my trainer, Dylan Near, went out of his way to socialize my dogs as well as train them in basic obedience. Over a period of several weeks, he enlisted other handlers and staff members to socialize with my dogs to reduce the dogs' fear of being approached and touched. Dylan called me with frequent updates and observations during my dogs' stay at Mountain State. He gave me homework to do when my dogs came home and helped me schedule private and group lessons at Mountain State for continuing training. As of this posting, it has been seven months since I rescued my dogs and enrolled them in training at Mountain State K 9 Academy. My dogs have completed basic obedience classes, beginner agility, and are currently working on their CGC certifications. My dogs are happy, confident, and learning that training is fun and people are good. I highly recommend, without reservation, Mountain State K 9 Academy to anyone needing a quality facility for training and boarding, and, as I stated earlier, I plan to continue training at Mountain State for as long as I have dogs. read more

So Toby got back from his 3 week training session at Mountain State K9 Academy this weekend and we couldn't be more pleased. He is totally a new dog! They teach the dog the "climb" command which they are put on a platform of any kind like the picture until you release them from that command. We use it while we are in the kitchen and he's usually right under our feet, while we are eating dinner as a family, when people come in the house and so many other applications. They also taught him to walk on a leash without pulling and just walks along your left side like a champ. How to sit and stay until he is let off that command. I recommend these guys ! And Ali is the bomb trainer at MSK9 that helped Toby find his potential. read more

100% recommend this place! My husband and I have a one year old German Shepherd who had been very difficult to work with...that is until we started training here. We did the three week board and training package, with Matt as our trainer. Matt listened to our concerns, and tailored the training to address them. Once seeing our dog again after the three weeks of boarding, it was like he was a new dog! We still have a few group classes to go, but every time we have had a training session so far, I can't stop smiling and beaming about how much our dog's behavior has improved...it's amazing!! Also, It is so clear that every employee here knows what they are talking about, and I appreciate and trust every bit of advice they have given us. **Read this Review** To make a long story short, I ran into a problem with the availability of my dog sitter while I was out of town. I called a bunch of the Kennels in the area looking for help, and many gave me the run-a-round or were asking ridiculous prices, above what most would reasonably expect. That was until I spoke with Mountain State K9 (herein as MSK9). Even though at maximum capacity, MSK9 was willing to reach out to their contacts to find me help. Not long after MSK9 had a vacancy and were able to take my Golden Retriever in. I was so happy how helpful and friendly the staff were, and when I picked up my dog his tail was wagging and it seemed like he was happy and had a lot of energy. So, if that helps you get an idea for this place, I suggest you give MSK9 a chance with the care of your dog. I noticed they have many different services to offer here after looking at their website and Facebook page. Nice job and very thankful! read more

We are so happy to have found this place our dogs Had a great time. They spent 6 days in the board n played and had so much fun the cam counselor! We definitely recommend this place it was easy everybody was friendly and understanding. Boarded our sweet healthy doggo for 6 days. When we picked him up it was clear he had not been regularly let out of his kennel for his stay. He was covered in urine and had licked and eaten his groin and underside until it was raw and bloody. At no point during his stay were we advised that he was not doing well. He had diarrhea for 3 days following his stay from the urine in his system. Requested a call back from the facility to see what went wrong...one missed call back but no other follow-up. Please don't take your dog there. I think they may be fine at training dogs; but not boarding dogs. read more

We have had both of our dogs there for training. This place is top notch. We just picked up our lab mix from a 2 week session and I am very impressed with what he learned. I was very dissatisfied with my dogs kennel stay. He stayed for 4 days. The staff was aware he had hip dysplasia and it was agreed that he would have minimal time outside without dogs, just a human monitoring him. When I pickup my dog he was panting excessively, exhausted, overheated, worn out and could barely walk. He was obviously in pain and fell down several times when I walked him immediately after his stay. His bed had multiple urine stains and he smelled like urine so bad I needed to throw away his bed and give him a bath before allowing him to have access to the house. Three days later my dog is still recovering. When I picked up my dog the staff said he was great, there were no problems and everything went perfect. This was not true or accurate information. I called the Academy to share my concern and they stuck to their assessment that there were no problems and everything went perfect. There were problems and it was far from a perfect stay. They displayed no empathy and were unapologetic. Actually, they didn't seem to be concerned at all. If this is there idea of no problems and a perfect stay I would be extremely cautious of leaving your dog at the Academy. I also noticed the three reviews of the Academy are over two years old. Maybe something has gone wrong in that time period. This review is strictly based on the condition I dropped my dog off and the condition he was returned to me. read more

We've had our nervous boy, Clark, day board here on a few occasions and Mountain State has always been fantastic with him! The staff is truly caring, and do what they can to make sure your four-legged family member feels comfortable and at home. Matt is AMAZING! I brought my 3 year old adopted pitbull here and he has become a new dog. He is currently only halfway done with the program, however after seeing him for the first time today I was astonished. I can not believe this is my dog. I have had him for 1.5 years now and have never been able to walk him on a loose leash, especially around other dogs. He now walks right beside me and listens to my commands, even with dogs around and other distractions. I am so excited to see how well he will do with the rest of the training session. Today my German Shepherd, Basso turns 2! After moving to Colorado from California and being told Basso was hopeless and would just be a family dog not able to socialize with other people we were pretty indecisive on what to do. In the process my husband relocated with his job to Colorado and saw MSK9 at an event and just talked with them about Basso. They said bring him in! I remember taking him there and feeling nervous as he tried to attack everyone there, but Cody wasn't afraid at all. I left my baby with Cody for a month of training and they quickly became friends. Here we are 7 months after training and Basso has made friends with all our neighbors, adults and kids. His best friend is a 5 year old girl named Charlotte and she plays ball with him almost everyday! Basso is listening great and enjoying a higher quality of life due to the training and Cody! We still have group training and nose work left to do, but took a break to let Basso work in the neighborhood to become more comfortable. We are still working on the vet, but they are patient with him and we've come light years. We are looking forward to our additional training and just love the staff here. I was in a hopeless place with my Basso and I'm here to say I highly recommend getting training and investing in your furry family members. It's worth it for you and for them! We just completed our first private lesson as part of the board and train program and I am impressed! Both our dogs were doing so great with the climb and loose leash walking that I had asked my husband if these were in fact our dogs! Jake, Kari, and Cody have not only taken great care of our dogs this past week but they've really done a lot with training both of them and us. I can't wait to see the results after week two. I'd also like to mention how wonderful they've been in talking to me throughout the week to tell me how the dogs were doing and to talk about progress. Before we chose this trainer, I contacted references which helped me feel confident in my choice. I was lucky enough to attend an event a couple days later and see training demos as well as meet other people who had completed training, including one of the references! It was great to see the results others had as well as the staff interacting and helping to keep owners and dogs on point with corrections and training. We had previously completed training elsewhere that was less expensive, but not effective and had worked with a behaviorist for one of our dogs. He seems to be doing significantly better with Mountain State K9 Academy than either of those companies to as we can already get him to do things with just praise instead of food. read more
