Extremely disappointed with grooming at Petco Lovers Lane (University Park). I took my calm, well-behaved 9-year-old dog Ralph here because my usual Petco Cedar Hill was booked. Huge mistake. The salon was clearly overbooked, communication was terrible, and the grooming staff had attitudes anytime we asked for updates. What should've been a 4-hour groom took 6.5 hours with zero proactive communication. At pickup, I was suddenly charged a $30 handling fee with no real explanation--despite Ralph being calm and never having this fee at other locations. Ironically, my other dog Luna (who actually has anxiety) has been groomed here before with no handling fee. The groom itself was rushed and sloppy: shed release clearly wasn't done (hair still everywhere), teeth brushing wasn't done though it was included, and his Australian Shepherd coat was cut way too short, almost shaved, despite asking for a basic round trim. Important note: Their training department is excellent. My other dog Luna trains here, and Emma is absolutely the best--kind, patient, fun, and extremely talented. Luna has come a long way because of her. Unfortunately, the grooming experience was the complete opposite. After reading similar Google reviews, this seems to be a pattern. We will never return for grooming. If you care about your dog, go to Petco Cedar Hill instead--they are consistent, professional, and genuinely care. read more

I've tried this groomer twice, and both times were a bad experience. I brought in two dogs and was charged full price for both, even though one clearly didn't get the full service I paid for. They always have an excuse -- like "he kept moving" -- but that doesn't justify charging me for things that were never done. Both visits were the same story: extra charges for services that weren't performed, and poor communication when I asked about it. I gave them another chance hoping it was just a one-time mistake, but it clearly wasn't. If you value honesty and getting what you pay for, go somewhere else. I was a loyal customer until I received a call to come in earlier than scheduled 'to provide the groomer adequate time to provide a safe and satisfactory experience.' I rearranged my schedule to accommodate the request only to find out that the groomer wanted to leave early to catch a football game. AND, he cut my dog's ear with the clippers in his rush. He stinks and is shedding hair everywhere. I paid an extra $40 for shed release, in addition to the shampoo and grooming. I really wanted that extra shedding done. I picked him up, it's like snowing hair in my car immediately. Every time I touch him clumps are in my fingers and flying in the air. It's like they loosened his hair and now it's just falling out. I went into PetCo on Saturday, July 29th to have my Golden Retriever's (Charlie) claws trimmed. I also wanted to have my dog's hair trimmed but the people working in the grooming room told me that they were booked up that day. I inquired about when they would have the next opening and they told me that it would be on Tuesday, August 1st. So on Tuesday morning I came in to PetCo with my dog at 10:00 am. I went back to the grooming room and was told that they had no appointment scheduled for Charlie. I asked the manager and he simply said I could come back in two days. No apologizes from the manager or the man working in the grooming room. I would not recommend going to PetCo as there are much better facilities in Dallas than PetCo!!! I can't believe this is the "manager" Two stars for Charles. He came and apologized for my experience. He knows me as I come in this location for everything. Grooming, food, treats, etc. I dropped off my fur grandbaby at 9 am and didn't get a phone call til almost 1:30 pm. (Bath and trim only, he just got seen 2 weeks ago) When I asked why it took so long I got some excuses about it's Saturday and having multiple dogs at a time. What happened to 1 dog per groomer? When I dropped him off and my normal groomer wasn't there and he got assigned to Darnell I should of canceled my appointment. If one of the girls had him things would of been fine. When I went to pay they were charging me for a bath and full haircut. I know I booked that online but when I checked him in I changed it to no hair cut only a trim a difference in price. My dog had a grooming appointment today for a bath and nail buff. I will start by saying that we have been coming to this Petco since we have lived in Dallas (about 3 years) and have never had an issue. I got his rabies vaccine updated in July 2020 and have since taken him to get a bath at this Petco in October 2020. Today, I was on the way to my dog's 5pm appointment when Petco calls me at 4:43 to ask if I am still coming and I informed them I was pulling up. They THEN told me that my dog's vaccine expired in May 2020.... I said that's not true because he has had a bath there after that (October 2020). Which she agreed. It turns out, they did not correctly save the vaccine information in the system... Which, fine, I get it. Mistakes happen, but to call me 17 minutes before the appointment to tell me that? I left work early and rearranged by day to be there on time and I ended up cancelling because I did not have time to go back home and get my dog's vaccine information. Worst Petco ever!!! They have the least trained employees who not only refuse to help you but also overcharge you. I had my dog vaccinated for Rabies here and they absolutely refused to help me get verification of this I was in LasVegas at the time and needed this for emergency vet visit. Then I called and got an price for grooming so I made an appointment and when I went to pick my dog up today the price had increased. Since when does full groom NOT include Shave and brush out. I was charged extra for this. Will never use a company who tells you one thing and then does another. $50 groom cost me $70.36 The gal who groomed also did not do a great job and said she did not do his front paws, (he pulled) but no discount given. I stopped by a little bit before opening hours to buy dog food for my dog not realizing the store wasn't open yet. The man watching the parking lot rudely called me a liar when I said I was going to buy dog food. Having my dog with me wasn't even good enough proof for him. All I wanted to do was wait 15 minutes until the store opened. He was very threatening, and very scary. There is a sign saying it's for certain stores parking only. Came in because I needed to get a deshedding brush for my dog. Soon as I walked through the door, I got attacked by Evan for not wearing a face mask. Apparently you have to wear one in Dallas county and I had no idea. He didn't offer any other options for me to buy what I need (like I can wait in my car and use curbside pickup), instead he kept telling me I need a mask in a very rude tone. I was able to find a shirt to put around my face and when I walked back in the store he says " that's better" with a slick smile on his face. I booked the appointment same day as I read the review, and all I can say is I don't care how far I move, I'm bringing my baby to Amber!!!!!!!!! I booked with her based off of a review, and she definitely is worthy to be praised. It's hot here in Texas so I wanted my baby to get a low cut until winter then we'll keep the hair around, she listened, she gave me reassurance, and she made me feel so comfortable leaving my baby in her care being she's groomed Shih-Tzu's before. Her nails were done perfectly. I can go on, but if someone runs across this review, nervous and on the verge of giving up your search, please book with Amber. I use different stores, Petco as well. I ordered online from Petco a week ago. I am giving them one star for getting it to me in one week. I provided them with my vet prescription. When I got the package today, the cans appears to be tossed in a large box and many were dented. I get this same item from another sender (Chewy) and it always comes in a case of 24 and it wrapped in cardboard and plastic. This shipment came from Dallas Petco and I think they must have a warehouse problem. But this is too expensive to deal with getting product damaged upon arrival. Never again Petco! Do not get your dog groomed by Darrel. I dropped my dog off for a grooming appointment and when he asked what I wanted for the haircut I said "Just a trim. I'm mostly worried about her long toe hairs and long nails." Apparently, he took this to mean do not cut her hair. She did receive a bath and he (badly) trimmed the hair on her paws but nothing else in terms of hair cut. And he did chop her nails. On top of this, he told me it would take "a couple hours." So two hours after drop off, I came back and waited outside since I had not received a phone call but wanted to be close by. Another 45 minutes later I went in and asked for an update. The other groomers didn't know anything about my dog because apparently Darrel had left and didn't say anything. They said they thought he was done but weren't sure since he wasn't there. "He must have forgotten to print the ticket." So I waited three hours and paid $60 for him to not cut my dogs hair. read more

One word: insulted. Calling the groomer to confirm my vet records had been emailed prior to leaving for my recent appointment that I had made days in advance, I was told not to bring the dog in that he was too old. If a dog's age is a prerequisite for grooming should have been disclosed at the time the appointment was made, not after they receive the vet records and minutes before the dog is to arrive. What this means to me is that persons working here do not possess the experience to care for a dog over 10 years and do not want the responsibility that an older dog may require behind the scenes. I want the best care for my pet, I would have just preferred they told me in advance rather than set the appointment, then waited days. I wasted time waiting for this appointment. read more

We have taken our Berniedoodle to Petco Grooming for a few years. Our last groomer was Rochelle at Petco-Mansfield. Our experience started out very good, and we were pleased, but in the last few months our experience with Petco Grooming Service and Rochelle declined. We bring our dog home, he still smells, we've paid for extra conditioning, we got on the Petco Vital Care plan and we pay a lot of money for his grooming because of his size. He has never been a very small dog. Rochelle, complained he had gotten too fat (background) he has a bad hip which he injured as a pup, and as he gets older it is getting worse, I have explained that to the groomer and we have him on a diet, but him losing all the weight is not an overnight process. Now all of a sudden he is too fat to get on the table. We were told on Saturday by Rochelle that Petco will no longer be able to groom him because it hurts him to get on the table. I also do not understand why this place has so many bad reviews. I have been bringing my Malinois Shepherd for a couple of years now. The very first time I brought him to be groomed, he kept trying to escape out the door. Today when I take him, he actually gets excited. They are very warm and friendly. Joshua is the BEST! He will talk to you and tell you what is best for your dog. I reluctantly agreed to do the shedding treatment. Omgoodness!! It's a MUST ' Some of the bad reviews really make no sense. Then said couldn't even give a bath. I had to drop what I was doing to go get my dog. Do not take your pet here. Had a horrible experience trying to get my puppy groomed. Dropped her off for her appointment at 1:30 p.m for bath and haircut. They said they would call when she was ready -- I hadn't heard anything by 5:30 p.m. so I called to see what was happening. They hadn't even started grooming her. The only excuse I got was that "they just got busy" and that she would be ready at 7 p.m! I came immediately to pick her up -- with no grooming. Several big problems here: - Insane amount of time for a puppy to be in a stressful situation. Clearly not putting the health of the dog first, like they claim. - No one called to update me about the change. - The only response I got in voicing my concern was an offer for 30% off my next service -- which is useless since I will not be coming back. Unfortunately the reviews about the customer service in the store are true. I went to the store today to buy food and cat litter. As I walked in the door I was told that I needed to wear a mask so I walked back outside put on my mask and continued to shop. As I was getting online to pay my husband walked in the store to help me with the 28 pound litter bag. As my husband walked in the door a cashier told him he could not come in without a mask. He told the cashier " I don't like that idea" and he proceeded to leave the store. She did not give him the opportunity to speak and shooed him away and said you can leave now as she shooed him away. Some people can not wear masks as they have a medical condition that prevents them from doing so, but there was no need for her rude attitude. Her demeanor was completely inappropriate. My husband told the cashier she had a rude attitude. The cashier called the store assistant manager Benny and Benny told my husband to leave. This was completely unnecessary as my husband was already leaving after his exchange with the cashier at the store entrance!! I told Benny that there is way to communicate a message and this certainly is not the right way. Benny then told me to move over there and pointed me to another direction. At that point this customer service employee did not know that the man he was kicking out of the store was my husband.... So I told Benny that he was talking to my husband. Benny then proceeded to kick me out of the store too ... only for telling him that his form of abrasive communication was not appropriate. There was no need to kick out my husband as he was already leaving and I was wearing a mask.... We both left the store and you would think this ends there, but no Benny proceeded to follow us outside and called the police. Benny stood in front of our car and took down our license plate and called the police!!!!! Benny actions were inappropriate and certainly not what I would expect of a person working in customer service. I have never been treated this way and no one else should have to go through this.... Everything is hard enough these days, and to treat customers in such an inappropriate way is very concerning to say the least. I am completely disappointed and shocked and needless to say will never shop at PetCo again. Read the other Yelp reviews as there is a trend of poor customer service in the last last few months. I spoke to the district manager and she tried to offer me a gift certificate which I obviously declined as this is not about money, it's about treating people with respect and no customer should ever be embarrassed this way. The district manager said this was a learning opportunity for Benny. Shouldn't an assistant manager know better and lead by example ?? I show up and the groomer doesn't want to groom my dog "because she's a puppy & is too active". She's been groomed before with zero problems, she was excited because she and her sister were playing. Next she tells me that she would need to be sedated for grooming and they can't do it because it's a liability. Wtf? Sedate a dog for grooming, I don't think so. Then she argues with me about my other dog saying her fur is completely matted. It's not, she has thick curls and not one matt, I brushed her the night before and it was fine. So rude and unprofessional, I wouldn't let let them touch any pet. Animals feed of peoples energy and herd was horrendous. I will say the other woman (Russian) at least tried to be nice but the actual person that supposed to groom my dog needs to learn people skills. read more

Stopped by to get vaccines for our dogs vaccines. The staff was really nice and helpful especially to those that didn't really know what they wanted or needed. We however knew exactly what we wanted and it was a little frustrating waiting for others. I know I should have more patience. VetCo is still using paper for tracking shots but suppose to go electronic soon. The store apparently had just lost their a/c and it was getting warm with all the pets and their humans waiting in line. We would return to the location for vaccines. read more

Ok, so I don't think this place deserves 1 star. I mean, this location if you will. True it is definitely smaller than your average Petco, but I think its meant to be more of an "express" store. We get all our dog food here (um, 40 lb bags), toys and other stuff. The staff here is always really nice and love petting on the big fluffy monster that I bring in. I mean, the staff here aren't as knowledgeable as some of the other stores, but they try hard and always answer my questions. My beast once dug his face in one of those "self service" treat stands...holy mortified mommy over here offered to give them some money and the sales person laughed and said "we asked for that, putting them in reach of the big dogs." NEVER Come to this location for grooming. I came for the first time, a day before my goldendoodle's first bday. I asked them to cut off only about 1 inch of hair. We spoke for about 15 minutes and I thought they would do a good job. However they shaved my poor pup and left him with LESS than half an inch of hair. See before and after pics. The girl who handed me my dog when I came to pick him up was extremely rude an unapologetic. They also got so close to his skin, you could see the pink. Never take your dog here. This is the most unprofessional grooming experience I have ever had. It started with the petco grooming manager, Darrel not taking my rabies vaccination that was brought. I was contacted after 40 minutes by the groomer needing information. When I called back Darrel told me no one called me and everything was fine. Except it wasn't. The groomer called back and asked me what I wanted my dog's haircut to be, which I had already expressed in writing in the contract. Then I was called my the manager asking about my dog's rabies information. I complied, asked if I needed to stop in, gave him the information, and asked if he wanted me to email it over. He said "no, you can show it to me at pickup." Well, apparently all hell broke loose at the petco because the next I knew the groomer was calling me THREE hours after I dropped my dog off. The call was to tell me that the two managers at the petco were corrupt and asking me to be honest with him about what Darrel had told me and what specifically I had said to him about my dog. He also mentioned how they were trying to get him fired. That should have been my first clue to just pick my innocent dog up. My entire experience was highly unprofessional. According to the groomer, the manager (Darrel) had lied to him about seeing the rabies paperwork and said I had gotten the vaccine at a place that I had not. I sent him my vaccine records by text. I was told that they would then start. Two hours later I text the groomer asking for an update. They still had her kenneled. He sent me a video as I was highly concerned. An hour later at 3 P.M. (I dropped her off at 9 A.M), the manager called me to let me know I needed to come get my dog and they would not be grooming her today. OH.. but I did get a "free grooming." No thanks.
