I visited last week because I am moving across the street and as I travel frequently I am looking for a place to board my dogs or even just daycare. Peering through the window I immediately noticed a tall African-American gentleman at the front desk looking down at a tablet / laptop of some sort and not paying attention to the dogs or anything else for that matter. Despite my better judgement, I returned the following day to get information and tour the facility. The same gentleman I saw the previous day was in the daycare room yelling so loud that I could hear him from the front doors. Upon entering I was greeted by very loud rap hip hop music playing with cuss words. Completely unprofessional. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I could barely understand the gentleman that was working the front desk. Apparently he had told me to hold on and while I waited (about 10 minutes) I proceeded to watch chaos play out in front of me[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. It was a complete circus as they were trying to get the dogs to the owners that were there to pick them up. I was really looking forward to this place because it is very convenient for me but after I seeing and hearing everything I can only imagine what goes on behind closed doors. Left my 12 year old yorkie for 5 night, on my way to pick him up, I saw through the windows he was having a seizure on the floor (small dogs room). I had specifically requested he stays with senior dogs. Also, they game back only one piece of material for dog crate/bed. When i washed it i saw yellowish stains. I'm sure he had diarrhea in his bed. I hope they didn't leave there and only realized it was dirty on pick up day and left my dog to sleep on the floor. This is my dogs' primary day camp and boarding place! My oldest has been coming here for about a year and a half, and my little one for a few months. I am a total helicopter parent when it comes to my pups, so I spent hours researching different doggy daycamps before choosing Urban Paws. Here are the things that we like about this place: BOARDING As far as I am concerned, this is the best part of Urban Paws! The dogs are not kept in cages, but in "townhomes," which are basically second-floor rooms with outside-facing windows. They have raised beds. There is plenty of room if your dog wants to bring his toys, bedding, chew toys, HDTV, Nintendo, etc. (Just kidding-- my dogs don't have their own television sets or video games, but if they asked me for them I'd probably agree. I have a serious soft spot for these pups). My dogs are housed together, at a discount for the second dog, and they are very comfortable. They have the option of playing with all the daycamp doggies during the day, and returning to the townhomes for "nap time." Even if you opt out of playtime during the day, they will be taken outside four times for 15-30 minutes each time, which is a lot of interaction compared to other boarding facilities. The folks at Urban Paws are very accommodating for different doggy needs. At one point, my little one was on medication, but we had to board him. I walked in with him, two overnight bags, and a list-long single-spaced instruction sheet. They were really patient and walked through the sheet with me. DAYCAMP I used to take my oldest here 3-4 times every week, so she was quite a regular. (I cut back because I have two dogs now, and they keep each other company). Everyone knew her name! Urban Paws has over 10,000 square feet of play areas for the dogs, sorted between small, medium, and large dogs. All play areas are constantly supervised and cleaned. This facility is one of the cleanest doggy daycares I have ever seen! In order to keep the dogs from getting bored, they rotate play areas between indoors and outdoors every few hours. They have pretty good hours (7am-7pm) on weekdays, which is appreciated. I've picked up my dog a little late a few times, and they were really nice about that, too. They also provide "valet" service, so during drop-off, they come and take the dogs from your car. It's really convenient! The best part is that after a full day at Urban Paws, my pups are always so tired and happy that they sleep on the car-ride home. OTHER FACTORS The folks at Urban Paws really get along with the animals, and they care a lot. The owner of Urban Paws has a good relationship with the vets at Katy Trail Animal Hospital (where I take my dogs) so that's a plus. They also upload photos of daycare days pretty regularly onto their Facebook page. It's really fun to look through them and look for your dog. Some of the other reviews have mentioned dogs coming home dirty. I haven't had too much of a problem with this-- at least not any more so than with other boarding places. If I leave them there too long, they will smell like dogs when they get home, in which case, they get the pleasure of being bathed in my sink. As a side note, they do laundry at Urban Paws-- they'll clean my dogs' beds and blankets before returning them. Would recommend. Woof! read more

I've been taking my golden retriever here 3-4 days a week for about 5 months. Since I work all day in an office, he has to work off his puppy energy at daycare, and it's important to leave him with people I trust. The employees know his name and clearly care for him a lot. He obviously plays hard and comes home pooped. If the dogs play in the kiddie pools when it's warm outside, they always try to dry them off (although I don't mind either way), and they do as good a job as possible of providing valet service, even with cars parked in front and occasional construction going on. I recently had a small billing issue and the owner was very amenable, fixing it over the phone in only five minutes. I appreciate the attentiveness. It would be nice to have cameras just to see what he's up to throughout the day, but I do trust that he's always being treated well! read more

Being new "doggy parents" we really wanted to find a great place to board our dog Murphy for an upcoming trip out of state. We searched Yelp and check out other places that were cheaper but quickly realized you get what you pay for. Those other places were so sad, small, or crowded, and didn't offer the amenities or conveniences Urban Paws gives us. The price you pay at Urban Paws may be slightly higher than their competitors but the level of service and attention is worth that and more. We decide to give UrbanPaws a test run Friday for day care and puppy was welcomed by a friendly lady at curbside pick up at 7am. -they answered their phones promptly when I called to check on our pup at noon and gave details about how he was doing. -provided personal anecdotes at pick up by the same guy who gave us our tour 2 wks ago! He gushed about Murphy's day and gave us educational tips when we picked him up. -their facility is clean,spacious and full of happy employees & happier pups. The staff is eager to help you as soon as you enter their facility. We literally were asked by more than one person at pick up if they could help or do something for us. Overall they are very welcoming & give fast service. Again very affordable for the level of care they offer your fur babies. Trust us! Murphy is 4mo. Puppy,very energetic, and social. I love this place! I have been taking Max to this daycare since my mom told me about them. She takes her Cookie and Pelussa and they love it. Max seems to love it too because whenever I'm close to the facility he wants to jump off my car and get in! Lol . Absolutely would recommend. URBAN paws is the best doggy daycare and boarding I've seen in the DFW area. Lots of owners coming in and out with happy faces and great service from the staff. The setup is several floors and a fenced in outdoor area. My dog, unfortunately, didn't take too well to staying there for almost two weeks last Christmas. When I got her home she had an accident (she is perfectly potty trained) and her stool was pure blood. This can happen, from the stress of a new place and the unique anxiety that some dogs experience. I spoke with the owner and she said she was so sorry to hear about Vera's issue. She was generous in how she handled the situation and I've taken Vera back for shorter stays since.... just to build her confidence. I picked up my dog from Urban Paws yesterday (2/15) and witnessed one of their employees kick an English Bulldog. I spoke to the owner who acknowledged the dog was kicked. She then took the side of the employee, making excuses for his actions. The employee was not removed from the dogs. One should never kick a dog...and when you take your dog, pay, and expect them to care for your dog! I doubt the owner of the English Bulldog was ever told his/her dog was kicked. I saw all the high ratings and instantly went for a tour of the facility- it is beautiful, clean, and the dogs seem very happy. HOWEVER, my dog did not end up staying here because of the total lack of professionalism from the front desk staff. I have had several interactions with one worker in particular that have caused me to feel like I am not welcome as a new client. I needed to drop off the application- so I called to make sure it was a good time and was given a very sarcastic response (along the lines of "well I'm here, so why wouldn't it be a good time?"). I brought the application and was there told that they also needed my pet's vaccination record... oh and their fax machine is being 'finnicky' so I need to make another special trip. Why wasn't I told this on the special phone call I had made to make sure I could bring the application? Instead I had received a rude response. And the time I am taking to make all these special trips is not considered whatsoever. I thought maybe this was an uncharacteristic situation and the worker was having a bad day. So I called back the next day to ask about setting up a grooming appointment. She couldn't answer any of my questions about how long the appointment might take because "Ma'am, I am not a groomer". I said "Ok, so are we talking 30 minutes or 4 hours? I have to schedule around my job." The response I got was- "I guess probably something between 30 minutes and 4 hours." Totally sarcastic and rude. When I ask what they would do with my dog if they finished grooming him really quickly and I couldn't get away from work without any warning, she flippantly says they would charge me for daycare. I am asking if there is any way I can avoid that and she wouldn't help me at all. Keep in mind that almost every exchange we have had has been in the middle of the day- I am trying to be understanding of the chaos she has to deal with around pick-up and drop-off time. I hate to give a bad review of a business based on 1 unprofessional staff member out of probably 30 extremely professional and capable people. But something has to change because this is such a well-run facility and I would love for my puppy to stay here and for their client base to continue growing, but I don't see how that is possible with the current situation. read more

I feel horrible writing this, but as a new dog owner, I'm surprised that this is the standard for most people. I was satisfied taking Peggy for daycare 1-2 times a week, for a few hours at a time. She seemed to LOVE it. It calmed her down around other dogs and humans and the staff loved her too. It was the boarding that upset us. We had her stay over the four day Thanksgiving weekend. So many things that still have me going.... wha? We measured out her food. They called and said it was gone in two days. Wha? When I picked her up, I asked for a progress report... simple things: eating, playing, bathroom, sleeping... all I got was a "no news is good news," and I could tell this person at the front desk had NO CLUE who my dog was. Wha? When they brought her out they brought me a HUGE ziplock of dog-food that obviously wasn't ours, because she had eaten all of hers. Wha? ALL of her belongings were wet. With what? I don't know. Could have been water, drool, urine.... wha? Obviously SOMETHING happened because she was COMPLETELY lethargic and sick when we brought her home. (Turned out to be kennel cough.) No news is good news? Are you kidding me? Upon further investigation into other boarding places in this city, it's amazing how LITTLE these places are willing to tell you about what happens during your pet's stay. Our Peg is only 9 months old and needs love, attention, play time, and I would hate to think that should could be left in a kennel for hours at a time. After LOADS of searching, and I'm stunned to say it, we've switched to PetSmart. They give you a report card after EVERY STAY, whether it's day-care or boarding. Now I know exactly how she acted, ate, pee-peed, pooed. This stuff is important to me, because then I'll know what kind of dog I have when I get home. If it's not important to you, take it to one of the 'no news is good news places.' But no news doesn't work for this family. read more

Went on vacation for a week and a half and had my 3 small dogs kenneled here. I just got them home and their condition is actually scaring me. Looking through these reviews I see a lot of similarities. My dogs are "lethargic and sick". Just plain not right. One of my dogs, the smallest, got home and had the most watery diarrhea i have ever seen. She seems extremely dehydrated and won't eat or drink. The not eating part is pretty normal for her but she will only eat if I feed her ONE piece of food at a time and sits there shaking. She won't drink any water. We TOLD the staff that they need to watch all three dogs while they are eating because the other two will try to eat the smallest ones food. My HUNCH is that they didn't watch and my poor dog starved. Meanwhile my other dog is taking little bits of her food and eating them in the corner. I was having a hectic day (my first adoption event), and she hooked us up with a ton of doggo treats that made the whole day go smoothly. This is one of the best spots in downtown for dog daycare and boarding. I brought my 4.5 year old yellow lab here shortly after I rescued him. They were so awesome with him, and took such great care of him. When I brought him home after his first day, he came home so tired, but content. That's how I knew Urban Paws would be our regular spot. Up until I got relocated to the west coast for work, he was a regular, coming at least once a week. Urban Paws did a great job and he came home smelling like a new puppy, nails filed, and they blew out his coat. So I had initially written a strongly worded review of Urban Paws based on my experience from boarding my dog Maverick with them in August. I praised the people who work there for being very helpful and attentive. A woman who worked there even came out to my car when I pulled up and helped me gather Maverick's things to bring inside. When I came to pick Maverick up after 3 days, I looked through the clear glass window into the doggy play room and saw him sitting in a corner by himself, looking frightened. I said this in my initial review. It wasn't anything major, just a split second observation that made me question Maverick's stay. Within minutes the owner of Urban Paws called me about it. She was so kind. She assured me that Maverick had a fantastic time and got along fine with all of the dogs. He was probably just worn out that day. Plus, it was his first time ever being boarded. The point I am trying to make is, the owner took the time out of her day to call me and assuage my fears even though I had boarded my dog more than 6 months back. I really do feel Urban Paws is a safe and great place to board your dog. The people who work there are top notch and care. The fact that the owner herself reached out to me about Maverick speaks volumes. She really cares about her business and assuring all of her customers that their dogs are well taken care of. I've been taking my 2 dogs here 2-3 days/week for almost 2 years and they love it! (I have a 45 lbs, 3 yo Collie and a 60 lbs, 4 yo Husky). I've also boarded them for 2-3 day stretches several times, and used their grooming services. The staff genuinely likes dogs and the place is kept very clean. I've never had, nor seen, any problems whatsoever. Also, the curb-side drop off during the early morning hours is a nice touch. Note: Some reviewers here were shocked and outraged to learn that this place doesn't accept certain breeds (e.g., Pitbulls) and that a professional dog establishment should know better. I can guarantee you that this policy is entirely for insurance and liability reasons and has nothing to do with the owner/manager or handlers. It wouldn't surprise me at all if either, i) they couldn't get insurance if they accepted certain breeds, or ii) their insurance premiums would be sky-high if they accepted certain breeds. Look, any decent dog owner knows "it's not the breed, it's the dog and the owner." I have been taking my 3 year old Siberian Husky, Rocco, here for almost a year now, and I truly don't know what I would do without this place. Rocco literally sings (breed characteristic) with excitement on the way to daycare! Before finding Urban Paws, I tried 3 other doggie daycares in the area and was completely unsatisfied with the facilities and/or the way they treated Rocco. As somebody who considers their dog to be their "furry child", I would like to list (in no particular order) the top reasons I recommend Urban Paws to anyone seeking daycare or boarding for their dog: - You will not find a staff of people that love dogs more than the group at Urban Paws: they know Rocco by name when I pull up to drop him off (or when they see him around town); my work schedule fluctuates daily and anytime (oftentimes well past closing) I show up to get Rocco there are always staff members playing and interacting with the dogs - I regularly witness one man in particular being clobbered and licked to death by a pack of large dogs; I have never witnessed a staff person rough handle or mistreat any dog (even when they were being difficult and misbehaving); they are always receptive and responsive to any questions I have about Rocco's health, vet recommendations, dietary adjustments, etc. - You won't find a better facility in or nearby downtown. The amount of space for a large dog is unsurpassed (this is key for an active breed like mine), and it is literally the cleanest, best kept daycare I have come across. - The staff monitors the dogs during their visit and will report anything of note. One day Rocco had blood in his stool, and the staff brought this to my attention as soon as I picked him up and gave me advice on how to handle the situation. - They regularly post professional quality photos of the pups having fun on their Facebook page! I have a number of adorable prints of Rocco that have come from photos in their Facebook albums. - I have never found a better deal on doggie daycare without having to purchase a bulk package. I paid the optional membership fee (MINIMAL) and now pay a fantastic daily rate! Sidenote: I understand that some reviewers may get upset that a staff person was addressing other customers while they were preoccupied with a phone conversation (and let me just mention, it can get loud in a facility that houses large amounts of barking dogs, so trying to have an important cell phone conversation while inside is probably not the best idea in the first place), but frankly, giving a daycare for your dog a bad review because your ego was hurt by a staff person is in poor taste. read more
