I had a very distressing experience at the Commack Petco grooming salon. My dog's appointment with a groomer named Tiffany ended up taking around eight hours, which is about twice as long as it has ever taken with any other groomer. When I went in to check on why my dog still wasn't ready, I personally witnessed Tiffany handling another dog in a way that looked rough and impatient to me, even though the dog didn't appear to be doing anything wrong. Seeing that made me extremely concerned. When my own dog was finally finished, she was noticeably shaken. She had always been comfortable with grooming before this visit, so the change in her behavior afterward was heartbreaking. I tried speaking with a manager, but I left feeling that my concerns were not taken seriously. I tried calling a cooperate number and was on hold for over an hour. read more

Do not take your dog here!!!!!!!! We took our puppy to get groomed on a Saturday morning. It turned out that they had QUADRUPLE booked him. He was stuck in the crate for 2+ hours before they even took him for his bath. He was in SEVERE distress during that time, had stress diarrhea, was shaking like a leaf and nobody called me to tell me. Had they called I would've picked him up to save him that agony. My dog has special needs and can't get water, when the manager came over he snuffed it off as thought that's not his problem. This establishment sucks and they treat their staff AWFULLY. I had to pull my dog out of the bath in the middle due to his stress from the hours prior that he endured. I went to this Petco location a few days ago as I always do to get my dogs some food. I stopped by the grooming salon just to check it out and was really unsettled by what I saw. One of the groomers was being rough with a dog and yelling at it in a way that made me very uncomfortable. The dog looked terrified. I went to the manager to mention it because I assumed it would be handled right away, but nothing seemed to come of it. My concern didn't feel taken seriously at all. I love animals and I come to places like Petco expecting them to be treated gently and safely, but after what I witnessed I'm not sure I trust this location anymore. It really feels like they're willing to overlook things that should never be ignored in a grooming salon. I took my dog to go grooming here . I made an appt . The girl Lucy schedule had many slots open . 40 mins after I dropped off my dog I get a call . Your dog is banging and chewing the kennel . If you like to pay $18 extra we can vip upgrade your dog to get groomed now . So it's 9:40 . My dog was scheduled for 9:15 am and I dropped him off at 9am . They doubled booked the girls so she goes well another dog is ahead of yours . Though if you like do the upgrade $18 extra your dog will get done now and then we will call you right away so your dog don't go back in the kennel . Excuse me is it my fault you double booked I'm picking up my dog . The day before she had 9-12 all open so my dog was booked first . Lucy goes or we can reschedule. Or I can rope your dog to a pole so it's not in kennel for you to pick up . I go no I'm picking up my dog now nor will I get my dog groomed with you guys . It took almost 4 hours and the end result was hideous. My pup was completely shaved almost right down to her skin and on parts of her face she left no fur at all. I'm writing to tell you much I appreciate Karen at your location. She literally saved my cat's life. I went in there to inquire about how to get an older cat to eat. I just inherited my uncle's 12 year old cat, Betty, when he passed and I couldn't get her to eat. Since I've never had a cat before they told me to speak to the CAT EXPERT KAREN. Boy! Were they right. She asked me a lot of questions that I was confused on at first. Then said she had a cat that had same symptoms and that she had pancreatitis. But that I would need to take her to the vet. It was during the holidays and my vet's office couldn't fit her in. She explained to me what pancreatitis was and what could help but needs confirmation from the vet. I told her I couldn't get an appt sooner. You know what? She called HER vet to see if they have an opening. And they did!! That same day. It's a 24 hour facility. The vet confirmed what Karen said. Betty started on medication and treatment. read more

My dog literally loves her his tail wags non stop when he sees her. She always does a great job with him. Well I went in today and needed some help in the fish area and not a soul was found at 12pm on a Sayurday in or around except for a couple cashiers, who probably knew absolutely nothing about the fish questions I was planning to ask an expert. So, I just bought different gravel for my tank and called it a day - the cashier, Jennifer, has to be the rudest cashier and has a bad attitude that shows, like she clearly hates her job. I try to make sure Christine is available to take care of her since she has been trust worthy and just an amazing person through out the years. I haven't had any problems with the other groomers on days where christine wasn't available. I generally have to have had a life-changing experience involving the business for me to jump on here. That reason alone will tell you just how much this Petco's grooming staff means to me. My pup is my child, he is my baby. But he's also high energy, rambunctious & a big boy at nearly 100 lbs. None of that phases them because they are complete professionals, they are knowledgeable & they know what they're doing. His safety & happiness are absolutely paramount - the peace of mind I get knowing that he's in the hands of people that treat him like he's their own, you simply cannot put a price tag on that. This store is spacious, it has fish tanks on the right side along with the cats that are up for adoption, and pet cleaning on the left side. They have plenty of pet food, homes, toys, accessories, and more. I sometimes come here just to look at the cats, every couple months theirs new ones in their so I'm praying to God that people are adopting them and Petco isn't putting them to sleep. read more

I always go to this store for my cat's needs. The staff is super friendly and helpful. That is, if you can find someone! I'm pretty sure that there are only two or three people working at any given time. If you know what you need, you're golden. It's easy to go in and get out quickly. However, if you have questions or need help with anything, don't be in a rush. It will take a while. Once you get someone, it's worth the wait. This review is about this Petco's Grooming. I have a Hairless Chinese Crested who is the sweetest but very shy and sensitive. Rose is his groomer and my gosh she just loves and adores every pet that comes through the door but my Yuki loves her so, so much he goes insane when I ask if he wants to see her. All she has to say "Hi Yuki" and he squeals and runs to her with lots of kisses! They are the kindest people and I trust them with my baby boy. I am a very picky and protective pet guardian and have a hard time leaving my dog with new people but I feel comfortable that he is safe when I take him here and he looks and smells amazing! You can tell they have a passion for what they do when you watch them with your pet and they really care for these animals and are knowledgeable about dog grooming! I gave this location a 5/5 and could have done 10/5 back in the spring and summer. I have a dog who has been in their training classes for over a year. I'm their religiously every week, spending on classes and spending on products. Three weeks ago my trainer left. I have been in the store in person now 4x, called 4x, had my wife call numerous times, and have gotten ZERO return calls. In-person, staff can't tell me even when the new trainer's classes are. There is never a manager on site when I call or are there in person. This new trainer Kevin never returns my calls. The manager "Don" who is supposed to call me back never calls. I'm so frustrated and mad. A loyal client shouldn't have to deal white this. All I want is to get my dog back in class. read more

I've gone to this store a few times, because I was in the shopping center, but I won't be returning. For such a large store, it is always oddly lacking in staff, even around the busy holiday times. There's always a huge line for the only cashier who is open, even when the line extends down the aisles, and there's never any staff around to help customers find anything. Return policy? I had to wait 20 minutes on line to tell them I'd be making an exchange with a receipt, then I had to wait on line again for another 20 minutes to get to the register. Kevin, the cashier, was extremely rude to me - he asked if I had a rewards card, and when I said no, just shrugged it off. I asked if I could get one, and he had me stop the transaction to fill out a form, while he left the register to ring up another customer. I asked if I could just do it online from home, like every other rewards card, but he said no. Tack on another few minutes to my waiting time, and because I was rushed, I had left out a few letters of my e-mail address. No big deal, as I had to repeat it slowly and clearly three times, and he still entered it wrong. When I pointed out that it was incorrect, he attempted to humiliate me in front of other customers, repeatedly pointing out that I had left something out of the application, even after I took it back and corrected it, then having to spell out my e-mail address three more times. Ended my experience with Kevin shoving my bag at me - no thanks. I'd rather go elsewhere, and with the plethora of pet stores in this area, I won't be struggling to find a better, more staffed place. read more

The store is quite large and previous reviews have complained about that being confusing but this review is SOLELY about the grooming. I took my dog here after being disappointed with the service at Lake Grove, and I am sooo glad I made the switch. The ladies were super easy to talk to and informed me about what they were doing, how much it was for (huge mix up at the other location with prices) and made me feel really comfortable about leaving my dog with them. Upon picking him up, he seemed really happy, looked great and felt super soft and I had gotten exactly what I paid for. My only complaint would be that my dog had two patches of fur that he had gone in with that were like clumped together because he'd been playing in mud and although both those patches felt soft and normal, there was still a clump of fur that I had to cut off when I got home. However I finally feel like I have found my go to grooming place and will definitely be returning soon :) read more

They have given her a severe ear infection by pulling the hair out of ears . my poor dog had suffered a very bad ear infection puss was everywhere ossing out my dogs ears ......... If I could give 0 stars I would. I honestly don't like buying pets from Petco but sometimes a part of me says go and "save them". Yesterday was my first time visiting the commack Petco, but I've been a Petco customer in queens and bay shore mainly for pet food and supplies which ends today. This store made me feel horrible yesterday. Valerie who stated she was the "store manager" stated to me they are refusing to sell me a turtle because they don't believe it's going to a good home. I've only been in the store for 5 minutes so what basis did that come from ? Was it my skin color? Is it because I'm wearing a scarf? Petco asks the customers right off what gallon Of tank you have. I had a 20 gallon tank and they stated I must have a 40 gallon tank. I stated even if it's for one day? They said yes I said ok I called my supplier to see if I can receive the larger tank I already pre ordered sooner he said yes. The sales person stated if I purchased the 40 gallon tank I can leave with the turtle. I explained to her I have my own seller for animal homes. Next thing I know I'm being refused an animal? Then when I speak to the district manager David he states that I can go to the bay shore location. When I visited the bay shore location the animals were not as active or lively as the commack turtles. So I'm not worthy of a commack turtle but I'm worthy of a bay shore turtle? I rather go to Pet Supplies Plus And spend an extra $3-$5 where they would never put me down as a caregiver and are beyond nice. With research Petco is known for animal abuse and sick animals so thank god I didn't get the turtle even know the little one I wanted was overpowered by the larger turtles but Petco is more about spending over $100 there than giving a pet a home.
