So bad. The store smells like the bog of eternal stench. Tried to buy canned cat food. It had rat/mouse pee and poo on the cans, and the shelves. After leaving the store my eyes watered from the ammonia for at least 30 mins. Shopping carts with products to be stocked in almost every aisle. Leaving very little room for customer shop. Update. Five start to April!, who works in the grooming department, she was AMAZING with my two French bulldogs, took the time to let them get familiar with her, my dogs were very comfortable around her! And even though they don't like their nails trimmed she managed to do a fast, very well job! Definitely recommend. read more

Went through the new store, which looks nice, (lowly stocked) and found no employee to help. Went to the front register, waited in line for two others to ask to get an item out of locked case. Employee called a different employee to help me. The new guy walked me back to the case but had the wrong keys so he had to go ask for help from somebody else to get the right keys. No one offered to take me directly to check out even though I had already waited on them twice. So I waited in line for another four customers to purchase my item. Total time in store: 35 min, Probably won't go back! read more

I just had the worst experience at Vetco. I have a small 22 lb dog who has anxiety and is partially blind so she gets extremely scared around new people. I went in for vaccine updates and a nail trim. I brought in a muzzle so she wouldn't snap at the vet. After an45 minute wait the vet came in and touched my dog and she snapped at her but she had the muzzle on so nothing happened. the vet then informed me there would be no nail trimming because they are a " fear free" clinic. What the hell? she said we can't take the chance of your dog biting so we can't do anything for her. I said won't the muzzle protect you? I was holding her too..she's had her nails trimmed at multiple vets in the Monetery area with absolutely no issues. The vet then said she can bite through that muzzle. Im just shocked. isn't that their job or do they only see dogs who are super friendly and calm? Please.... this is their JOB. I will never recommend this place nor would I ever go back. And after $170 for 2 shots I'm at a loss. absolutely ridiculous! read more

Not at all amused today. Went in for a self-service dog wash and after paying full price was asked if I brought my own towel. Excuse me? Apparently there were no towels for customers to use because the washer was broken. And there's a sign stating the fact that it's closed unless you have your own towels, but the sign should have been in the front entrance to the store not way back in front of the dog wash after you paid for it. So I asked the young lady, who I'm assuming was a manager if we get a free treat since we have to drive back home and use our own towels . she looked at me as if I dropped in from Mars and offered me one of the free 10-cent treats they have in a bucket up front. If I had to inconvenience one of my customers and have them pay full price for a service that they were not getting the full use of I would sure offer them at least a discount if not something extra to compensate them for the inconvenience. Not at all amused! That is below average customer service and I don't know maybe they need some training or some education but to look at me stupid when I asked a simple question like that and not realizing that they're charging a customer full price for something if they're not getting full use of is absurd. And unacceptable. Don't know if I'll be using your self-service dog wash next time. If need be I'll travel to Paradise or maybe use PetSmart if they have one. Not amused at all! And the top that off I wasn't even offered the courtesy of an apron or the basket that has the wash tools. I actually had to go up front and ask for them and was met with an attitude and a half as she walked back to the grooming station to grab the basket and when she gave it to me it was with an attitude of practically tossing it at me. I shouldn't have even had to have asked for that it should have been offered to me as I walked back to the wash station. Horrible customer service! The store clerks were fine but the woman AKA manager who work there should be demoted to a clerk or be retrained. If she doesn't like her job find another one! I've been a loyal customer for Petco for 15 plus years and have never encountered such an attitude from a manager. If she was my employer I'd fire her. Hint hint! As soon as I was rung up she pulled out her phone again and leaned on the front counter. Not even saying anything. I give this new Petco a solid 4/5 stars. The employees were very nice and despite what seemed like short staffed still tried their utmost best to give outstanding customer service. Unfortunately looking at recent reviews people are trying to make a political statement or received issues from a shipping warehouse rather than this store itself. The store has been open barley for about 2 months now and overall it is a huge upgrade from its previous location . I give this a solid 4/5 due to they still lack some things but there is potential. read more

Not a good place for tropical fish. We have little to choose from in Butte County except for big box pet stores and they all likely get product shipped from the same vendor, and as far as I can tell the new arrivals are not quarantined. So I'm stuck and often convince myself that this time will be different but again I am terribly disappointed. For example , I bought 8 fish, lost 2 in quarantine and after 8 days of medicating and observing I introduced the remaining 6 to the main tank with a community of about 30 fish in a established 120 gallon aquarium. Some fish have been with me for years, now all sick and covered in parasites. So after spending $60 on treatment and the losses that I will likely take on dead fish (8 fish now at about $10 each) I have decided that I will remove the remaining fish and get little plastic scuba dividers with air lines attached and watch them bob up and down. read more

Don't shop here, this place will take your money and sell you garbage. I purchased dog nail trimmers from this store, went home, tried to use them on my dog and my dog's nail *bent the blade* on the crap trimmers. Within 90 minutes of purchasing them, I went back to the store with the packaging and the receipt and requested a refund and was told that the store has a no return policy on grooming supplies. I explained that the trimmers were garbage and asked for at least an exchange and they refused again. I will never shop here again. read more

I went in to purchase a fish for a fish tank my son had got recently. I told the employee helping me how I had a brand new tank that I just got that was looking for some fish to put in it we spent about 30 minutes looking over fish finding ones that were compatible and then out of nowhere he refused to sell me the fish saying that my tank wasn't suitable for those type of fish. He recommended I go with the beta, So I said let's get a Beta then, Well he also refused stating the tank was it set up properly and I had to go buy some special ph, bacteria leveling components first. I was confused because I previously bought fish tanks and fish to go with them in the past. I brought my tank in and show them how it said on the back I could have multiple fish and it came with its own solutions for pH balance and such. They lied and said my starter kit was not the right ingredient when it was exact same thing they were trying to sell me. They told me I needed to wait 48 hours for the water to Be suitable so I thought I would come back in a few days. They then said you actually take about two weeks for the water to be ready for a Betta and again refused to sell me a fish. I don't want my fish to die I want to do what's right for the fish but they're not informing me enough how to do that and just refusing to sell to me. read more

I went to Petco the other day to get wet food for my cat and I have never been more disgusted and horrified at what I saw and heard from one of their employees. I saw on all of the cans of cat food and the shelves, what look like mouse droppings. I went to find an employee and tell her what I think I saw and she came to look, and said, "yes these are mouse droppings, we have been having problems with mice but we clean the cans and shelves everyday. Let me get something to clean these cans for you". I said mouse droppings on all of these cans and on the shelves does not look like you clean the shelves and cans everyday. You should not even be open. An exterminator should have been called here immediately. You are risking the lives and the animals safety that are housed here and the lives and safety of the animals and people that shop here. Especially during a pandemic. I also told her that I will not feed such a can of food to my child and that I was going elsewhere. She said she agreed. Petco claims that they are "ready to welcome you back with new cleanliness and safety standards" but ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS and they clearly are not! I left there and went to PetSmart. I came in with my dog who I typically don't bring with me but I wanted to try on some sweaters before I bought them. I found one that looked like it would fit but I wanted help putting it on my dog. He is wiggly (but allows it) and in the store he was overstimulated and going to be difficult. He is hard to size so trying things on is a must. I asked a store employee if she could help me try it one him. She responded, "well if he won't let you put it on him he won't let me". I explained that he will allow it but is incredibly wiggly. She helped minimally and seemed irritated that I asked. I used to work at another Petco many years ago and customers would often ask for help with clothes and I can't ever remember anyone in our store telling them no. I was a little taken aback, but perhaps she thought he was going to react aggressively so it wasn't an unreasonable reaction. It didn't fit, I said thank you, and began to say that he was difficult to size and before I could finish she says "because he is chunky". My dog definitely could lose a few pounds but he is in no way obese and it felt really insensitive. He has short legs, a longer body, and a barrel chest. Sizes by weight or length aren't always accurate for him. I have recently switched him to a lower cal/protein food, and he gets 2 walks a day, with my goal to make them longer more frequently. I would never say to a customer that their dog is fat, and while I understand retail is tough and burnout is real especially around the holidays it was completely uncalled for. The cashier was another girl and she was polite and friendly. I wish I could have had her helping me instead but she was with customers. read more

We took our 5 month old puppy, Kylo, here for training not knowing anything about training a dog or anything about the trainers that work here. We were placed with Yvette and we could not be happier or more pleased with the care, service, training, and kindness she showed us and Kylo as we trained with her. We absolutely can't wait to go back for another training class with her! Can't say enough good things about her! If i could give it no stars, i would. This store had the rudest employees. I had to purchase about 125 fish and most have died(they also randomly gave us a crawdad). the fish were dropped on the floor and one of us had to help pick them up. Also, a different employee who was younger, tall, and had shaggy hair was the worst. He felt the need to go out of his way to make my friend feel bad for wanting birds. He did not help her at all or provide any useful information about purchasing birds. He just kept trying to bring her down and talk her out of buying them. Overall that guy had a really negative attitude towards us, probably because we are teenage girls and assumed we wanted to mess around and get birds. This review is not directed towards Petco nor their employees; however, the kitten adoption agency that is stationed in the store is negligent and untrustworthy. CARING 4 KITTENS is the name of the program and Deborah is the person in charge. My personal experience was last year (2015) when I purchased by kitten for $75 and later paid nearly $1,000 in vet bills. A friend of mine purchased a kitten from her, now in 2016, and these kittens are still not healthy. After informing Petco of these ongoing problems, I was told that they had requested for her to take the kittens to the vet before selling them in the store. Needless to say, she is still administering the shots herself and the sick kittens are not receiving the proper tests before being adopted. These kittens may carry disease and can infect other cats in your home. The negligence of this program is unbelievable. She is running a kitty farm and not only is this inhumane, but it is emotionally and financially taxing. read more

This is where I get all my dogs toys, food and other items. It is really the only place in town where I can get his specific dog food at a decent price. If you sign up for the petco pals card you can get a free bag of food after you purchase 10 bags. It might not sound like a great deal but when you have a huge dog that eats a ton of food it comes in handy. The staff has always been nice and helpful for me. read more

An employee at the cash register today told me that I could not return my Algae Eater because they "couldn't reintroduce them back into the tank" and how it would "be dumped out in the back" even though I had called earlier in the day to make sure the return would be okay and they assured me they'd find my fish a good home. I then spoke to someone else who actually helped me instead of the incompetent cashier. He took care of my return instead, where he received my healthy fish. I am leaving this review because if this practice is what is actually done instead of what is advertised, I am severely disappointed. That is grotesque, cruel and a reason I would NEVER shop at Petco again. I wonder if it was a mistake leaving my fish there and that pisses me off because I shouldn't have to wonder if a business who works with animals secretly kills them off for simply being returned. And if y'all don't actually practice this, then quality check your employees. Make sure they actually know your return policies instead of pissing customers off. I'm tired of asking employees questions about the fish at this location and getting an "I don't know" or incorrect information. Went in and bought a 6$ toy for my cat. I gave the register worker a $50, received my change and left. A few minutes later at a gas station I realized she gave me change for a $20 and called letting them know they owed me $30. Ricky, greeted me rudely when I arrived and basically called me a liar. He said he was only over $20 so that's all he would give me. So he can't do math and why would I pay for a $6 toy with two 20 dollar bills. I went to Petco today to get dog food. I usually spend about $50.00 on a bag of food for my dogs. I was VERY disappointed when i asked if i could use the restroom and they said they did not have a public restroom. So Petco would like for me to spend my money in there but they won't let me use the restroom??? Really??? Well, I had NO problem walking out of there and going to Petsmart to buy my pet food; and Petsmart had a restroom for me to use! I do not think i will shop at Petco anymore...I was really disappointed with the way i was treated. Don't donate here unless you want to be made fun of. I selected the 2 dollar donation and the cashier sarcastically congratulated me for donating 2 dollars. He said "wow thanks for the 2 dollar donation, you really are helping to save an animals life this year". I have nothing but good things to say about this Petco! All of the staff that I have come into contact with have been very helpful and knowledgeable about every animal and product in the store! I have gotten a Betta fish, African Dwarf frogs, and a Hamster from here. My hamster is healthy and now over a year old! I have also taken my now 6 month old Min Pin/Yorkie mix here for puppy level two classes with Jessica and she is amazing! She goes above and beyond to make sure both the dogs and the owners understand the skill, how to work on it, and why it is important. Jessica also is able to keep the group as a class, while also making sure each dog/owner gets the individual attention they need! I would definitely recommend this Petco to family and friends! read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. First of all I couldn't even till this place was open! I had to look at the hours on the door to realize it was. Walked in didn't see an employee anywhere? It was very dark Inside like they hadn't turned on any lights. My purpose was to find a supplement to help my dogs hips. Took me a bit to find the section. Since they were so expensive I decided to find an employee to ask them it they had heard any reviews on which one works best. After five minutes of walking around I finally found someone who worked there, so I asked them. The employee shrugged her shoulders and mention just a brand they carried and walked away. So I went back to the section and of course it's the most expensive one. Out of frustration I grabbed it and walked over to check out. A man walked over to ring me out, he doesn't smile, doesn't say hello, just mumbles my total. I asked him if he knew if this was a good supplement " I don't know" is what he replied. I left, I never received a thank you for your purchase or nothing. I WILL not be BACK!! I'll just go down the road to Petsmart were the employees are more than happy just to say hello. read more
