I had to schedule appointment to get someone to call me regarding shortage of pills..tech said it was a typo error ..well a week later dog is still suffering and losing hair, biting,scratching..im pretty sure he needs antibiotics due to yeast infection but I can not take my dog back, I really wish the vet would have done a proper examination. First day vet doesn't even look at him and this Vet Tech / assistant has vet prescribe Trazodone so I can sedate him..I come back next day with muzzle on my dog and under 300ml Trazodone..vet tech still acting scared ..she shouldn't have stood in the room while vet tried talkn,just staying in corner looking at my dog, it was like watching 2 scared chihuahuas..vet wouldn't even touch my dog,it was the weirdest thing I ever witnessed, so unprofessional..my dog clearly has sever yeast infection..steroids alone doesn't get rid if it, even if you would have prescribed the correct amount but you didnt..so now what..my poor baby I could have paid for an internet vet and got a better exam read more

Absolutely terrible animal welfare, the "animal care manager" (the guy who's IN CHARGE of the animal care and instructs others on it) is not only clueless about the animals he "cares" for but is actively resistant to any kind of animal care advice. Here's a short list of things he's done or said that show he has zero clue what he's talking about. 1. "I don't know why we can't keep snails alive but every time we get them in they die." (I've literally never killed a snail, they're so hardy I don't know how he pulls this off) 2. He has no clue how to handle parakeets and was strangling them until I stepped in and had to get my own parakeets. 3. He said there was "no more shrimp" after he scared them all away 4. I was trying to get a deal on a tarantula that they were unable to properly house since if he sold him then he'd be selling him in okay condition but if he waits a few weeks he's going to sell a spider that's going to get taken home and fail to molt and die, but he assured me over and over that a tarantula enclosure that wasn't okay by any metric (temp, humidity, tank furnishings, and substrate were all completely and direly wrong) was "completely fine" (though he and another employee had completely different answers when questioned on the humidity where one said "no that's not true cause he's been molting good all the time" and then he said that they "just got him in". 5. He thinks that all his bettas in cups dying is normal cause they're "bred by the thousand" and them living in cups is okay cause they "live in puddles in the wild", I had to explain to him the difference between a rice paddy and a "little mud puddle". Theres not an animal in there that I would buy at full price because they're all in such terrible condition 6. Back to the tarantula he literally told me that the substrate (that was so thin you could see the floor beneath it in many spots which is a whole other issue since tarantulas need to burrow) doesn't need to be moist because the moss is moist and they just misted it.. obviously the moss isnt holding enough moisture because then the substrate wouldn't be bone dry? The guy shocked me with how much he didn't care at all about the animals he was caring for when I talked to him, I've talked to other employees before and they were all receptive and just mentioned the fact they were getting orders from above but they try to do their best with what theyre given and keep the enclosures as temporary as possible, now I know who the "above" is thats giving terrible orders. He also said the humidity gauge was broken but I can use my eyes and gauge the humidity by looking at the dry substrate. Also while waiting to talk to him about the tarantula, I witnessed him selling fish to a guy and along with a bunch of random fish he recommended and sold him 2 fish that are gonna get big and kill the other fish so great expertise there. He kept using his title as "animal care manager" like it made him know what he was talking about but being the animal care manager means very little when the animals whose care you manage are in terrrible shape. read more

My partner and I went in to grab some things for our cat after our recent move. Kate was so sweet. She dealt with another customer's problem calmly and was incredibly polite despite the customer being rude to her and came up to us to apologize for the hold up and spent some time chatting with us while we were engraving our tag and even gave us a coupon for next time. Self wash station is $20 and they provide no towels or aprons (they advertise that they do, and they did when they first opened). I'd rather drive to Tractor Supply in Paradise and pay 9.99 for their nice self service, they have lots of clean towels and aprons. And the people that work there are super nice. Went to Chico Petco for 7 cat items. They only had 5 of them. Problems with the store last night: - No large labeling signs for new customers, such as "DOGS", "CATS", etc. That meant we were wondering around trying to orient. - No employee approached with a "May I help you find something?" query. In fact there was only one employee that we saw on the floor (she was not being proactive with customers, she was straightening products on shelves). She was nice and helpful AFTER we approached her and asked for assistance. - We were shocked to see that there were 7 groups in the line to pay with only one clerk. I asked the clerk if he could call another cashier. He said one word: "No" and he made no call for help. - We waited approximately 9 minutes. As it was finally our turn another cashier arrived. I asked our cashier why he didn't call her to assist earlier. He replied that she had been talking with another employee. Huh? Actually over several years I've visited this Petco 3 times. identical problems each time. Sorry, won't be back. read more

This review is for the Vet at Petco in Chico. I've been taking my two dogs to Companions veterinarians before they sold the practice to Petco. Since then, the customers care has plummeted. The vets and technicians are great. The front off staff is a nightmare to deal with and are in desperate need of management. I dread every interaction with these rude women. An example is trying to get the monthly flea pill for my puppy. They refuse to let me order more than one month at a time. I'm required to make an appointment each month and come in in person. Appointments are booked several weeks out. If I just drop by they will rudely tell me "it will be a wait" and I'll sit for 45 min. The last time--after a 45 min wait in the middle of a work day--the front desk finally told me that I could just weigh the dog at home and order online! This month I did just that, but when their very own pharmacy tried to get approval for the flea meds, the vet never approved it and front office claimed they didn't get a request. I forwarded them the emails requesting that they please approve it, and texted several time. In the recent past (as recent as last month) they've received and replied to texts and emails, but this time the receptionist rudely said they don't get texts or emails and that the only way for me to pick if the flea pill was make an appointment and come in person! This is the most incompetently run Veterinary I have ever encountered. They should be ashamed for treating their customers this way. if you can find any other veterinary in Chico, go there. read more

Grooming- After 3 hiccups trying to schedule a follow-up grooming session with Trailblazers I decided to try Paige at Petco in Chico (saw a positive review by another Doodle Parent). My dog is with my 24/7 and thus has LOTS of anxiety being separated. It was explained to me that Petco cannot groom dogs who are sedated (a prescription provided by our Vet for medical appointments and grooming) but they told me about CBD and where I could find high-quality CBD (Trailblazers). I snuck in and peeked on my dog's grooming session and the love they were showing him made my eyes water. Paige was grooming and explaining what she was doing to the other attendant- who was giving my boy extra love and reassurance. As long as those two are in Petco I'll be taking my dog there. Same cost as Trailblazers, but different packages to choose from. read more

This morning my sister in law was in this establishment, her puppy had a couple of accidents, she explained she was disabled and needed assistance. A sweet young lady tried to help her and the older employee with a ponytail, told her she could not help my sister in law. She just needed help with someone holding the leash or assisting her in clean up. The fact that this employee denied her help and then refused to let another employee help, is absolutely disrespectful and disgusting. I called the manager and she would not listen to me and insists her employee has another story. Of course she does, why would someone admit a fault that could punish them at work? This last time we had Haley & she was so sweet. It looked like Haley was the only groomer working but she still took her time with my dog & was so attentive to her! read more

The worst petco experience we have ever had. They mistreat the animals and when you try to alert a team member of the mistreatment, they will ignore you and kick you out of the store without allowing you to purchase the items you came in for. I was in with my family and we were looking at the rodents and could tell that the rodents were in distress. They were all running back and forth and shaking. We were curious as to why this could be and then we noticed a vibration coming from the cages of the middle section of the rodents. The other cages were still and the rodents in those cages were calm making us realize something was definitely wrong with the middle cages and the rodents were all reacting. When we tried to alert a team member, the team member let us know they had more important things to do and walked away from us while we were still speaking. It was very rude but we brushed it off and just decided to leave the store since it was clear no one cared about helping us or the rodents we were just simply trying to bring attention to. As animal lovers maybe interested in adding new members to the family when we come in, it does not make animal lovers feel good to know that the animals are being neglected and mistreated. The rodents did not look happy and therefore not appealing to families looking for new additions. We thought by bringing this to the attention of the store, we would be helping everyone - especially the rodents. However that clearly is not the case for a mega corporation like Petco. Defeated, we went to the front to just checkout and hopefully never return. But when we waited in line and got to the checkout, the same person who rejected us earlier, was calling us to the counter. We simply asked if they had the time to help us with our concern now and the team member, again, refused. Then we asked for the team member's name because of how rudely they were treating us and then the team member lashed out and said we would not be getting their name and that we could now leave without purchasing ANYTHING because they were no longer going to serve us. This was unlike any experience we have ever had before and this team member seemed deeply angered and ill-tempered. Regardless of their personal experience or how their day is going - as someone who has worked in customer service for years - this is absolutely not okay. The team member publicly announced their refusal to help us check out in front of other people and created a scene over simply asking for their name after they refused to listen to us when we asked for help on the floor. Everyone can make their own choices on where to go for your pet supply needs but if you're looking for a pleasant experience - maybe think twice about stopping at this store. They are unfortunately unsure of how to respect and communicate with humans and they definitely do not care about the animals. Couldn't pay me to even walk by this establishment again. read more

Petco has nice services. I like going here to get my dog shots, heart worm tests and buy his medication from Petco online. The ladies who run Veterinary Services is very knowledgeable, friendly and make me feel comfortable when my dogs in their hands. Signed up f or a six-week puppy class and it was wonderful! I l earned so much. The teacher taught me how to teach my puppy to be more confident and not be afraid of strangers. What a difference! Apryl is a gem! I have been taking my dog, Dotta to her for over a year, and can't say enough about what an amazing job she does. Yesterday, I was late due to road work and she was short staffted and still fit her in! My favorite thing about her is the love she has for all animals. and they love her right back. On top of Apryl's busy day, she took the time to help me with a dietary issue with Dotta and my cat! She had the food waiting for me when I picked Dotta up! They do not help with fish unless the one lady with tattoos and dark hair every time I go into this store if she isn't there I'm leaving because they will watch you stand at the fish for an hour before helping. You may think just ask for help and truth be told this is the wait time after asking. Zero stars! Had an appointment on 10/7/23 for my shih tzu puppy n my roommates shih tzu puppy ( puppies are sisters) to be groomed at our appointment at 2 pm. Anyway, to our dismay the appointments were canceled due to groomers calling in sick. With no regards we didn't get a call or text to inform us that our appointment had been canceled. The stock seemed low and when I asked for help from the employee ( that was not busy at all) they were vague and pointed to nowhere instead of taking me to the area to find the product. After wandering around, I asked help from another employee that had no idea what I was talking about and made no effort to help me out. I left and will not return. I am sad I even have to give one star to this place. When you walk in your nose is overwhelmed with the stench of death, urine and dirt. To the right there's a beautiful stand with tons and tons of beta who are dead, half dead or dying. When I looked around for a staff member I found two of them behind the counter gossiping. Out of curiosity and determination to write a review letting potential customers know about the state of this store, I pushed forward going even deeper into the store, and the stench does not get any better! As I turned around to leave a staff member asked if I needed help, I let her know about the Beta situation and she went over to them and stated wiggling the cups telling me she didn't know what I was talking about. This is a review about Vetco the veterinarian clinic inside of this Petco. Recently my elderly cat had some troubling urgent symptoms and I was able to get a same day appointment at Vetco. The veterinarian, Valerie Caruso, was excellent! She took her time and went over my cats history, did a thorough exam, had lab tests done and then took her time to explain everything to me. She followed up with a phone call when the lab results came in and prescribed a prescription kidney diet food for my cat and even went and got it from the shelf and had it at the front desk of the clinic for me. The rest of the staff was also very friendly, professional, and efficient. I was very pleased with my experience and will be going back for future needs. Highly recommend! read more
