Grooming by Vanessa at You're Halsted location

Horrifying Experience at Petco Grooming - December 19, 11 AM Just before Christmas, I wanted my fur babies to look beautiful for the holidays and the New Year 2025. I had a truly horrifying experience at Petco on December 19 when I took my two dogs for grooming. I was booked with Vanessa, who I was told has 30 years of experience. She even assured me herself that she'd been working there for a very long time. This gave me some comfort as it was my first time trusting this place with my two fur babies. I was very specific in my instructions: just a basic grooming, please clean them up, and do not touch their tails. I wanted their tails to grow out fully and emphasized this multiple times. My plan was to see if I liked her work so I could decide on a new groomer. However, the results were nothing short of disastrous. When I picked up my dogs, I was shocked. Their grooming looked unprofessional, careless, and far from what I expected from someone with such experience. Worse, Vanessa avoided me completely--she rushed to the back of the grooming salon without saying a word. It felt like they knew the work was subpar and just wanted me to leave quickly before I could fully see what had been done. To make matters worse, they handed my dogs back to me without their harnesses, as if they were trying to rush me out. What horrified me the most was witnessing one of the groomers slap a dog hard on the temple. I felt the force of it from where I was standing and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I was so shocked that I immediately reported it to headquarters and filed a complaint about animal cruelty. If no action is taken, I will escalate this to the news because no animal deserves to be treated this way. After bringing my dogs home, I noticed they seemed uneasy, as though they'd experienced something traumatic. As pet owners, we know when something is wrong with our animals--they speak to us in their own way, and it's our responsibility to listen. I urge anyone considering this location to think twice. Our pets deserve love and care, and this experience was anything but that. Please be cautious when choosing where to take your pets for grooming.

This review is for the dog trainer, Alina! She is super patient, kind, and knows her stuff. Because the training area is small, I was basically in a semi-private lesson with only one other dog/owner. My pup learned so much! And at the price for 6 weeks, this is the best training deal in town! Thank you, Alina!

I took my dog here for grooming and when I picked him up, his nose was bleeding. I asked them about it and they said he must have licked it too much (??). Of lesser concern, I also mentioned he had two mats behind his ears, and was told they'd brush out. The mats were still there when I picked him up. They did brush them out after I pointed this out, but after nearly three hours, I'm confused why he was still damp with mats behind his ears (especially given that I paid for an additional thirty minutes of brushing). The grooming was sub par, but the injury to his nose and their failure to mention it to me is inexcusable.

They did an incredible job with my babies cut. We had a bad experience at pups pet club and it's beyond refreshing to have a safe place for Ezzie to get his hair cut at!

We normally get our Shih Tzu groomed closer to home, but she's quarantining at college with her big sister. Chose this Petco in a clutch. I was very nervous, because we build relationships with the folks who deal with our dog. I was pleasantly surprised by the service my daughter received when she took our cutie patootie to get groomed. There were only a couple downsides. One, calling to confirm the delivery of vet records was difficult. Petco sends you a text & email saying they need the vet records. When I called grooming, I literally was placed on hold for 15 mins. I had to hang up. Call back to the main line and ask for a store manager to go into the grooming section to find out how do I get the info sent. Two, there was a separate charge for matted hair, which I found weird. I'm used to paying $60 for our dog, so this itemized bill was weird. I would've respected just getting a bill for $60. Especially, considering my dog literally only had some mat behind her ears. Overall, my pootykins has a good visit. We will go again. My daughter said she even found a specific groomer she liked, after watching a few of them work.

This is a review of the PET GROOMING at Petco. I made an appointment online a day or so before which was super easy and quick. I brought my dog Lucy in, who can get really anxious with grooming (especially with her nails) and warned the staff of these tendencies. They were confident she'd be fine and got me out the door. I picked her up about an hour later and was delighted to hear she was (almost) an angel! They were able to get ALL of her nails clipped, teeth brushed, anal glands expressed...and wow, she was just not stinky anymore! While she was still pretty anxious and wanted to get out of the store, she still seemed super happy and I'll definitely be keeping Petco in mind for my last-minute grooming needs (or at least for her anal glands...can't beat $10)!

While every aspect of the program was fantastic, two things really stood out. First, the team genuinely cares about every dog--it's clear in everything they do. Second, this wasn't just a training experience for our puppy; it was a learning experience for us as owners, too. As first-time puppy owners, they gave us the skills and confidence we needed, and the progress our puppy made was incredible. We can now take him places and truly enjoy the experience. We initially signed up for six weeks but extended it by three more because of how much progress he was making--and because we knew the impact would be long-lasting. We're even planning to bring him back this summer for additional off-leash training (and because we're pretty sure he misses it!). I can't say enough positive things about the facilities, the staff, and the level of care they provide. They're always available to answer questions and show a genuine investment in each dog's success. It's also such a relief to have found a place we trust for boarding and grooming. Thank you, Found, for everything--you've truly changed our lives and our puppy's life!!

They even recommended Prozac, which dulled our dog's personality and didn't address the reactivity. We were feeling out of options until we found Jesse and Canine Perspective. He taught us how to properly use an e-collar, which contrary to misconceptions actually improved our relationship with Matcha, to the point where we are able to have her run off leash in fields, forest preserves, and among other dogs, while feeling confident in her recall.  This is the only place we trust to board and take care of our dogs, as they are the only ones who can provide the structure, discipline, and socialization training our dogs require. The entire crew is awesome with communicating with us and accommodating us during emergencies, and we'll continue supporting them for all our pups.

After being a client for nearly 1 year, this muzzle incident happened under their watch, and instead of trying to figure something out I was informed that they all of a sudden decided that my dog is "no longer a good fit" at their establishment. The owner Jesse is condescending and hides behind emails that he has the secretary send instead of dealing with any issues himself.  If/when a problem occurs seems they would rather cut you as a client over working out a resolution plan.  (If anyone from Canine Perspective objects to any of the above I am happy to post the emails they sent me that states all of this)

We've been enrolled in the agility course at Urban Pooch for the last few months, and in that time, Fleur has gone from scaredy-cat to confident, curious dog. Agility is an amazing activity to get a dog involved in. It bolsters confidence, increases communication, and engages dogs on many levels. I wanted all these things for Fleur and knew, despite her physical challenges, she'd love agility if given the right chance. Fleur cannot hear me call to her, so we must stay visually and energetically connected every time we work together. Her vision is not good, so I have to stick close and always be in her sight-line. I needed a training facility and trainer that would work with us at her level and comfort. Enter Urban Pooch Training Center. Having gone through basic obedience, Fleur and I had already developed our own language, which Jim Bahr from Urban Pooch Training Center immediately understood and helped us deepen. Seeing how we interacted, Jim coached me on how I could best support Fleur on the course, and wow, did she ever need support at first. Fleur's visual impairment means that she is not always able to see an obstacle well enough to understand what's going on in front of her. Dark areas make her nervous. Sudden movements can make her jump. She's a playful, loving goofball, but these challenges left her very scared of most obstacles on the agility course when she first encountered them. I couldn't make soothing or encouraging noises she could hear, so Jim taught me how to encourage her with well-timed treats and clear body direction. The first day, she took one look at a short tunnel (which was more of an arch, really) and decided it was going to eat her. I was worried I'd made a huge mistake -- that agility would only terrify and traumatize her -- but Jim assured us that wasn't the case. We never forced her into or through it, and instead worked on changing her association with it and building her comfort around it. The care and patience with which Jim had us approach each new obstacle means Fleur only ever had positive experiences at Urban Pooch Training Center. If we had pushed Fleur past her comfort level even once, she would have left afraid. Because Jim works with each dog and trainer based on where and who they are, Fleur's gone from a nervous scaredy-cat to a dog who bounds onto the course when it's her turn and can't wait to get to work. Now, if I don't tell her what to do, she runs to loop the tunnels over and over again. They are her favourite obstacle on the course. And because she had an opportunity to develop confidence when she faced her first fear, she knows she can trust us. That we would never ask her to do something that could hurt her. After she conquered the tunnels, Fleur looked on obstacles I expected to terrify her without fear; she runs over A-frames, bounds across dog walks, and leaps onto teeter-totters without hesitation because Jim gave us the tools we needed to develop trust and communication. I can not recommend Urban Pooch enough. The facility is excellent, and the staff is outstanding. They have the knowledge, patience, and passion to help you and your dog reach your training and communication goals.

When we got home, I noticed he was shaking his head a lot but he's usually dramatic after getting a big haircut (somewhat like he's embarrassed by his new look haha) so I thought nothing of it. He has big floppy ears and a few days later I check under it and he has a huge scab. So he was shaking his head in discomfort the whole time because his ear had been cut! I understand that mistakes happen and he's an old dog with a new groomer but the fact that they hid this from me instead of even acknowledging it much less apologizing is extremely disappointing. Besides this, they honestly did a great job with the haircut so I would've come back but covering up injuring my dog is unacceptable.
