I called this place today to make an appointment for my elderly dog, and once they found out how old he was, they refused to look at him or consider grooming him. They told me to take him to a veterinarian who does grooming Now this is a dog who is goes to the groomer 2 to 3 times a year. To have this kind of attitude from a local businesses who I love to support is pretty bogus. Whether somebody was having a bad day or this is the businesses protocol then shame on them for bad training? read more

After asking them not to shave too short, they shaved the heck out of her and did a really poor job. I asked for a summer cut and we got a lion cut. Asked for them to trim her visor, they didnt. and they barely trimmed her nails. It was almost 90 dollars. An absolute rip off. But the staff was nice, for whatever that's worth. There are random tufts where they clearly didn't shave well. They also did a really strange trimming of her vulva. I'd post a picture but she's pretty modest. I think they're probably better with small dogs because this was pretty bad. My dog is a bit smaller than a lab and they did a terrible job. Waste of money. read more

We wanted to try a new easy to walk to groomer and unfortunately left incredibly disappointed. I do not recommend bringing your Goldendoodle or other curly haired dogs to The Grooming Gallery. We gave specific instructions and provided pictures of what we wanted but our requests were ignored. Our dog was shaved and left looking ridiculous. We were told our dog was too matted even though we spent two days combing out the mattes prior to the appointment. Our regular groomer has had to work through triple the amount of mattes and has never shaved our dog. Furthermore, the customer service was awful and we were blamed for the incident. It became very clear that because we had an afternoon appointment, the groomer was in a hurry to leave work and our dog paid the sacrifice. Needless to say, we've just scheduled out appointments at our regular groomer through the end of the year. Never again will we go here. read more

They do an awesome job with our bichon-Shitzu mix! She sometimes gets pretty matted but they do a good job working through it. The place we used to go for grooming always shaved her and it did not look good, but they do much better here! Their prices are reasonable too. read more

Not impressed with their service at all. I asked several times to cut my Labradoodle hair a little and I'm OK with extra for brushing. The lady told me that they may shave my dog in some back areas but try to save the hair. 3 hour later my dog was completely short shaved. Everywhere. They didn't bother to brush. I would understand that they had to do it but the way my dog was shaved was unacceptable. Lines of longer hair in the back. A lot of longer spots on legs. Just very low quality service. We got much better service in PetSmar, where our dog was brushed almost two hours to save the hair. read more

I recently brought my dog Benny here because someone at the park had recommended it. Ingrid was very pleasant to talk to over the phone and I was able to get him in for a grooming pretty quickly. I was happy with his cut, but I don't think I explained exactly what I wanted and when I asked if I could bring him back in to shave a little more around his neck, Ingrid was very nice about it and said I could bring him back in at any time that was best for me (of course during business hours, haha). I've taken my maltipoo Snowy to this place few times since 2015. I moved way north and had bad experiences with other dog groomers costing my dog to have ear infections & treatment. So i went back to Eric and had him take care of my Snowy. The cut was great, my dog was very well at ease, and plus they were able to squeeze me in for an appointment within a few days' notice. Eric did great with making sure the hair in the ears were plucked out as instructed to avoid having yeast infection which previous groomers from Petsmart neglected to do. Cost was reasonable. I will definitely be a regular at Grooming Gallery from now on. The drive is worth it plus there is drop off parking spot designated which makes it easier. read more

My poor pup has been sad and not acting like himself since we picked him up, which is what I'm most upset about. Groomers didn't listen to what we asked for (shorter, no shaving, no skin showing) and shaved him down to the skin and gave him a very uneven cut. Unprofessional and they will not offer a refund for this botch job. In addition, I sent an email with photos and asked for a refund as this is not what we asked for. The owner responded in a condescending email blaming this cut on his matted hair and "irregular" groomings, which was rather insulting. I normally take him to another salon every 3 months, and the last cut he had was just a few months prior. My dog has been acting depressed and not his usual happy and energetic self ever since I picked him up. I know he was definitely not treated well here. read more

Based on another positive review from a Samoyed owner on Yelp, I brought our Samoyed here. It's the middle of June, and she is starting to blow her inner coat. Her fur was otherwise in generally good shape. I believe that they started by washing and drying her, without any brushing prior. For a dog with a double coat, one that is in the process of blowing it, all this does is creates terrible knots and matting. I received a phone call 1.5hr after dropping her off saying that her coat is in terrible shape, that they have never seen anything like this before, and that the only "humane" thing to do is to shave her - that it would be "cruel" to brush her and would leave "her skin raw and bloody". Shaving a Samoyed is a big red flag and should almost never be done, so I picked her up and told them I will think / consult with others about her fur. They would not brush her at all. They did say they trimmed her nails, her paw fur, and her butt fur. We have vet friends that were visiting that same night and they said it was the worst trim they had seen on any dog in a while. The paw fur is very uneven, the butt looks almost untouched, and the nails (the vets said) looked like they trimmed only half of her paws but with a very slow dremel. I was very upset about this experience, so I visited a Samoyed breeder / groomer / show-er the next day. This person shows her 3 Samoyeds regularly. She agreed with everything above and suspects that either 1) the groomer was just lazy and did not have the time or patience to work with brushing a Samoyed, or 2) simply did not know how to groom and take care of a Samoyed. I'm sure this place is fine for smaller dogs or short fur dogs. Samoyed owners stay clear. read more

For reference, we have a temperamental bernedoodle who does not like to be groomed. He barely tolerates brushing at home, so when it's time for a groom and cut, he does have quite a few knots. After a few scarring appointments at other places in the city, we were referred to Grooming Gallery. Thank god for that! Amanda is incredible. She is patient, takes her time, and has built a bond with our Lou, even though he's still resistant at first. :) We will never go to another groomer unless we have to (so please never leave, Amanda)! read more

We love the Grooming Gallery. Our English bulldog went here for years and always happily ran into the bathing area (he wasn't a bath fan, he was very comfortable with all the staff). They customized his bathing since he was scared of the dryer and he had sensitive skin. Now our mastiff puppy is starting to go and she's being taken care of amazingly. I've found this place through Yelp after calling almost a dozen groomers for same day service. I have two small chihuahuas and I was in a rush to get them groomed before I left for my trip. Luckily Grooming Gallery was very understanding and took my babies in. The place itself is very clean and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable and they really take their time making sure you get the best service for your little loved one. If they are running behind or know it's going to be awhile they always call and give you an update which I appreciate very much. One of my dogs is very anxious and barks at everyone but the groomers were very gentle with her and made her feel very comfortable. Now whenever I drop her off she gets very excited with her little white tail wagging. They also put on cute bandannas on your dogs after every visit. A+ in my book read more

I brought my feisty cat here for his first-ever grooming experience. He had a bath, lion-cut, nail clipping and ear cleaning. I was extremely nervous to bring him anywhere for grooming, let alone a place that is more known for servicing dogs. The place is filled with dogs--dog hair flying all over the place. There is a separate room for cats, but you have to walk through the dog room to get there. When we arrived in the cat room, there were already two unhappy cats awaiting their grooming. Two and a half hours later they called me to pick up my cat. They had him sitting in his carrier in the DOG room! He was terrified! The appointment cost $75, which is quite a bit, but the woman assured me that the cut should last a few months. My cat looked really cute with the lion cut, despite my expectations that he would come out looking like a chihuahua. They even put a little scarf around his neck. When I got him home, I checked out his claws and noticed that a couple of them were bloody, like the woman had cut them too short. I will not bring him back there. I get the feeling they are not animal people. read more

I took my pup here because Soggy Paws was booked due to the Thanksgiving holiday. I was happy to get the last minute appointment. I dropped her off at 8:00am. The lady at the desk (who was very pleasant) told me she would be ready around 1:00 depending on when the groomer got started. So I left and took the bus downtown to do some work. I get a call at 10:30 telling me she was ready and to come pick her. Naturally I was a bit peeved because had I known it would be that quick I wouldn't have gone downtown (especially not by bus) When I got there my poor little pup had been shaved really low. Not cut. I will say that I asked them to cut her a little low. However she's a shih tzu and I know that there is a specific cut for the breed. My pup came out looking like some stray off the street. She didn't even look like a shih tzu. Also the shave was uneven. Ugh - I have been going here for a while and even though I've never been *thrilled* by it, it's always been alright. Well, until the last time... So, I dropped my dog off (collie - see pictures), and since I've been there many times before, the conversation basically consisted of, "The usual, right?" "Yep, the usual." Well, what I got was beyond not being our usual. It was some whole new take on the standard cut for the collie. I wasn't sure if this groomer was clueless, or was having a creative moment. She left most of his hair long (you are not supposed to cut collie hair except for to trim the bottoms of the legs) but then cut down his mane as well as buzzed his haunches pretty short, among other things. He looks RIDICULOUS. As I told my non dog owning friends, this is similar to dropping your 5 year-old daughter off for a haircut and having her come out with a crew cut. It is that level of wrongness. I sensed that Barb (the owner) knew they had f***ed him up because she sheepishly asked me if he looked "okay" when I picked him up. Unsure of my ability to control myself should I have begun explaining how wrong this was, I opted to say nothing at the time. I think Grooming Gallery is generally well intentioned, but if you have a pure bred, and want a specific cut, you must be VERY explicit with them. It seems that when they are unsure of how to approach a certain breed (though they had cut him countless times before), they tend to make "executive decisions", and you/your dog pay the price (the whole price because there are NO discounts here!) read more

We took my bulldog here yesterday to get his nails trimmed. We try to do it at home but every time he acts like we are torturing him. It's traumatizing. We've tried a few other grooming places, but his nails always still seem longer than we would like so we were still searching for a better place to take him. Enter The Grooming Gallery. We walked in on a Saturday, no appointment needed and no wait. They took him back and put him up on a table. We could see him but we chose to stand back so he wouldn't act overly dramatic. They did a fantastic job. His nails have never looked better. We were in and out of there in 5 minutes and only $10 poorer. Totally worth it. I took my small dog here for a grooming about 2 months ago. Everything seemed okay upon picking her up. However since going to this grooming salon I have had my dog to the vet 3x in 2 months time. My dog is a very healthy dog typically (vet once a year for a checkup for 5 years) and after this salon visit things have changed. My first visit was for a lump on her neck that developed about 1 week after visiting this salon, the vet popped it and said it was a cyst most likely from dirty bath water or an ingrown hair. I brushed this off as it could be from other items. Then she developed a nail infection about 3 weeks after visiting the salon. The vet said this was most likely due to her nail being cut too short with dirty nail clippers. I can't confirm these health issues have come from this clinic, but I have NEVER had any similar issues with my dog. She has never had to take an antibiotic until visiting this groomer and the only item I changed in her routine was trying this place out. Beware. Besides that grooming style gets a B+ and staff was kind and courteous. read more

If you want even mediocre service and respect for your pet, don't even think of coming here.They had my long haired cat for over five hours, and when I picked him up, he still had tons of mats in his fur (poor guy). I grabbed their scissors and had to cut off the mats myself. Isn't that why I brought him to a professional? They also claimed to have given him a bath, but he had poop all over his back legs. Maybe they're better with dogs? Don't know, and I wouldn't trust them with my pooch to find out. We used Grooming Gallery for the first 4-5 years that we had our Shih Tzu and only stopped going because we moved further away. Barbara, the owner, and her staff, were always wonderful and we never had any problems. The only downside was that it usually took all day on a Saturday for Ginger to be groomed, but, you have to expect a wait on the weekends. I'd recommend them to anyone :) read more

This place is great! I took my dog here a while ago and have been meaning to write a review, but haven't had a chance. They did a phenomenal job on my cocker spaniel, who is a difficult dog to groom. Also, it was only $50; whereas at Petsmart I pay $65. I will definitely be coming here from now on. Another thing I liked about this place (although some people might not like it) was that after he was done with his grooming, they let him loose on the floor to play with the other little dogs. I'd rather have him happy and playing than frightened and stuck in a cage. AND it's within walking distance of my house! Yay! read more

I was desperate to have a a grooming shop for my pet dog. I live in Ukranian Village and was surprised to find one just 4 minutes walk away. I called and showed up after 30 minutes with no appointment. Was very happy to see the place, it's neat, tidy and smell fresh. The groomer, Ricky is very accomodating and considerste for my first-timer, Mio. Checking the prices for different services and find it reasonable. We take our dog here for his nails all the time. Great service and the price is right. Despite the additional cost, it's a touch better to have your dog's nails filed as they get smoother. The ear cleaning is good as well. They are closed Monday and Wednesday, so plan accordingly. You can walk in for simple services anytime. read more

I just walked Lucy on over today and got her nails trimmed. I am too afraid to do this myself. The groomer made sure that he let my dog know he was there to do his job. He introduced himself to her, and she seemed to be quite fine with this. Lucy was very calm even though I was at the desk smelling and checking out various items not as close to her to alleviate any fears she might have. I took my Yorkie here this summer for her first-ever cut. The service was friendly for the most part, although I felt as though a few of my instructions were blown off. The cut was pretty extreme, but my dog was happy when we left. I recently took my dog for her second-ever cut at Petsmart, thinking I might get better (or at least cheaper) services. That was not so. Like many other fellow reviewers I had taken my dog here several times but upon picking her up today I can honestly say never again. First off my drop off was 1:30 and they said they were backed up so it could be close to 4 hours before she was ready, while a heads up on this would have been nice I was flexible assuming that she would be fine chilling in the grooming area while they finished other dogs. Well after 6 hour I was finally able to pick her up and upon getting her out of what I can only assume was a small crate the groomer informed me that she had an "accident" and he needed to clean the mess from her fur. My immediate concern was why is my 10 year old dog that never has accidents having sudden issues, which I was then informed that they don't take the dogs out while they are there because "its not part of the service" yet they hold the animals for 6+ hours? The cut also looked a mess and the staff tried to convince me this was the "classic scottie cut"... Again, my dog is 10 and she has never had this "classic cut" before. Regardless my biggest issue is with how they treated my dog while she is in their care. While the hope is she looks fantastic, putting her in a negligent environment isn't why I am paying $60+ to get her groomed. Do yourself a favor, save your money and sanity and find another place. We will not be going back here ever again. read more

Very pleased as a customer for over a year. When I adopted my terrier mix, I knew he'd need a groomer in the area and I happened to live nearby, so after reading reviews I took Otto in for a schnauzer cut. Even the mostly positive reviews fail to do GG justice. They can usually fit me in within a day or so and Otto gets excited when we get close. The cuts always look great, I've never seen a buzz too close or a cut. Otto always seems happy and relaxed when I pick him up. Cost seems very reasonable for the area and quality and I have had really pleasant experiences with the groomers every time. If I ever move to another hood, I'll keep coming to GG because of their consistency and quality, and the comfort I feel leaving Otto with kind, obvious dog lovers. Couldn't be more pleased to recommend. read more

Ozzie and his girlfriend Lady went and got their fall grooming. Again, they listened to what we asked for and again they gave us what we wanted. Both dogs looked awesome! They really understand clients and the dogs. Ozzie is a free spirit who they let hang outside the cages while Lady was more nervous so they made sure she was in a cage to make her feel safe. Also, HONEST people. When I paid I had a dumb moment and gave them an extra $50 bill! They ran out after me and made sure I got it back. Thats how to run a business. read more

I have been going to the Grooming Gallery since the old location on North Ave. I love the new location on Damen even better. My old friends had dog's named cookie and keno both have since past but they lived at the Grooming Gallery. I always knew they were groomed there because they always come out with the cutest bandannas around their necks! In the past the Gallery took great care of my Akita Shepard and now they groom my little Shit-stu Gizmo. He gets a great cut and comes out so fluffy and clean... and the most important thing is that he is super happy not stressed when I pick him up. I have tried the big chain stores in the past and that was a big mistake. I must say that Grooming Gallery is a keeper. They are kind and caring! read more

I came upon this place trough a referral from a mutual friend. I called in and everything was arranged for my newly adopted pet to come in for her first grooming session. Because it was a new environment I had explained that she was adopted and might needed extra attention. The first red flag I saw was the way these two workers talk to their own pets, telling them to be quite and not to bark. The second red flag was from the woman working on a dog, whose complain was that her owner dint really specified what she needed to be done, so she was just complaining and saying how they wanted magic done. The male groomer which name I forgot, asked me what services I needed and I processed to explain she needed a haircut, ears Cleaned, brushing of teeth and nails clipped, he told me a price and I agreed. He then calls me 2 hours laters to tell a- my dog might be wet because she was "scared" which is untrue. Then he completely went on a rant on how She had diarrhea: which again I explained she was adopted and she had just went to a vet visit. The switch of state and food could have caused this. Either way I'm sure they are trained to deal with dog accidents, and not just rant about it. I get there she still cutting my hair dogs, she's wet he's trying to handle her while dealing with their personal dogs: cause I asked whose dogs were those. Then he explains to me that she moved so she has a clipper burn in her tail. Insane. Then her nails weren't clipped and her teeth were never cleaned. How her teeth were the same they were before. Horrible service I Paid him and tipped him. But I Will never go back. And as. Business owner of several business I will let my customers not to take them here, and the owner should implement more stricter rules for her employees. read more

I had an appointment at the grooming gallery that was canceled because the groomer had an emergency which I completely understood without question. They said that they would call back to reschedule. A week and a half goes by without a call and I finally called them back and they now couldn't get my dog in to get groomed for another week. When they finally got my dog in 2.5 weeks later, they COMPLETELY shaved my golden doodle without calling/consenting me, including her legs, face, AND ears. Her appt was finished in less than 1.5 hours, whereas every other grooming appointment she has gone to has taken upwards of 4 hours. You can tell it was rushed and done carelessly. Later that night my dog started limping on her back right leg. I am not sure how they treat dogs here, but my dog has still been limping 5 weeks later. I just took my dog into the vet which confirmed a torn muscle. I will never come back or recommend this facility to any dog owners. I also have never left a yelp review before but felt inclined as I don't want any dogs to be mistreated like mine was. :( shame on the groomer working 6/5/22 read more
