Turns out this is my neighborhood Petco now that I've moved to the area but will be avoiding it unless necessary. On my first visit, I had four interactions: 1 - dropped off my pup at the grooming salon, which felt more like an old rundown manager's office converted into a grooming area; groomer seemed friendly but also a little unsure of herself and didn't really ask many of the "right questions" about what I wanted done, as if she assumed there was a one-size-fits-all haircut for dogs 2 - checked out with some dog food and treats which was pretty painless, the guy checking me out was friendly and quick 3 - upon picking my dog up from the groomer's, he came out with a big wet spot on his back and clumps of hair falling off of him as if he wasn't fully dried and brushed; I never had such a poor result at my Petco groomers back in CA; I was still on the clock at work so didn't have time for them to properly finish, honestly he should have been done when they told me he was ready but maybe they have a different concept of "finished" here... 4 - when checking out for the grooming, the girl charged me double; when I pointed this out, she didn't acknowledge the mistake or apologize, and I had to point it out again before she removed the second charge; maybe she was new on the job but either way very clueless and sloppy Will not return here for grooming services ever, and will avoid purchasing supplies here unless it's on my way home. read more

Had a great visit today! I came in to find another fish tank filter, as mine has been a bit unruly. They had a good stock and clean store, and the staff was friendly. However, the prices were a bit steep, and sometimes double the same product on Amazon or Chewy. In the end, I walked out with a new filter, at a great price. Why? Price matching for the win! Explaining water cycles, peaceful fish versus aggressive fish, how many fish will fit happily in how many gallon tanks and why.. any weird question that comes to his curious 8 yr old brain. If possible to leave less than a 1 star rating , I would have done so. Took my two year old and wife to buy some fish for the tank we had set up for the family. We waited patiently for about 15 minutes although the store was completely empty. After having no one offer assistance, we went over to the cashier to ask for assistance in purchasing some fish. Now the real fun began. After selecting 8-10 fish out, we made our way to the cashier. Upon being cashed out, we inquired about the buy 3 get 1 free promotion that was listed on 2-3 of their tanks for a few different fish including the Platys we were buying. It stated this promo was good through April 1st. The cashier stated she wasn't aware of it, but she was helpful and called over someone for assistance. Two additional employees came over and asked where we saw the signage. My wife repeated 3...... literally three times that they were on multiple tanks for the freshwater fish. The manager (found out she was after the fact) passive aggressively was walking away and said to my wife that " well we just want to see where it is as we don't know about it , no need to get mad". At first I was taken back and asked the cashier if she was speaking to my wife. The cashier indicated she indeed was and shook her head as if she knew her manager was in the wrong. At this point , I called out Katie and said if you were talking to my wife, no one was getting mad. However, you should be aware of any sales as they are listed on your aquariums. She literally snapped back to me with " who's getting mad now"? No doubt she was looking for a fight, and today she found one. I made it clear that she should be aware of sales and even if she wasn't , take a second to go look. Mistakes happen, but her passive aggressive attitude and behavior is exactly what we get nowadays because employers are forced to hire people like her. I wasted time to have my kid pick out fish to have some individual who hates her job try and pick a verbal argument. Then after calling her out, she refused to sell us the fish. The customer isn't always right..... I get it. However, in this case you lost a measly $50 in fish from me while disappointing my kid , but after this review and every other social media outlet, I will be lighting Katie up like a Christmas tree regarding how poorly she treats people . Having her represent your company is the reason your store was empty and gets 2-3 stars for reviews. Do yourselves a favor, get Katie some training courses and if you want to turn that store around, you will need new leadership with out her smart comments and coward like replies while walking away from paying customers. read more

5 stars for customer service! I went there today around 6pm to pick up some goodies and birthday gear for my dog A$AP Rocky. One of the employees named Angel and another gentleman who was working the counter were amazing in my experience to pick out a birthday cookie and even gave Rocky a sample donut. Usually I'm in and out of petco and barely talk to anyone but today they definitely made the experience personable and special for Rocky. I was pretty hyped after leaving the store today and I'm so glad this is my neighborhood store! read more

UPDATE 9/7/2019 - 5 STARS NOW Went to the same Petco because my daughter wanted to see if she could hold one of the hamsters she saw the other day. The same employee mentioned in the below review came over to help. She apologized for her behavior the other day and she was WONDERFUL with my daughter. They got on the floor and played with a few hamsters, after a few minutes my daughter made her choice. Thank you very much for helping us today! ************************************** We visited the store yesterday at around 6:00PM to purchase our 11 year old daughter a hamster, because her beloved hamster died. She wanted to wait a few months to mourn before getting a new one. We asked for some assistance and a female worker with medium long blonde hair came over. My daughter asked to see a few of the females, the worker said the hamsters were all fairly new so we could not hold them. My daughter asked me to pet the one she was interested in to see if she was receptive to being touched, the hamster sniffed my finger and gave me the smallest little nibble (no blood, no broken skin...NOTHING) so when my daughter saw this, she hesitated. The worker should of taken this as an opportunity and turned it into a learning lesson. She should of told my daughter this was not about aggression, but just normal behavior for a new hamster. BUT NO...THAT IS NOT WHAT SHE DID! Instead, she started questioning if we knew anything about hamsters and started to tell us they don't make good pets, bite a lot and that we should get a RAT! As you can imagine, my daughter was heart broken after the incident...she was just told she knows nothing about hamsters and that she should basically not get another one and instead get a RAT! They first promised to help my pup but when we showed up they refused to see her. They then told me to take her to another hospital. They didn't seem to understand that we've already been to four other hospital facilities. I had told me I shouldn't have waited so long even though I them my wife and i had been gone for two months to deal with a family matter and her caretaker refused to care for her while we were gone. Aaah Petco. Before you read this you should know I shop all over for my pets and try to find the best quality and best pricing but mainly relational employees and friendly people (culture of a place is important to me). I've shopped amazon, chewy.com, pawstruck.com, PetSmart, Petco, and other smaller shops for years. In past years I've always found Petco to be dirtier and higher priced than any other pet store... but went in today to kill some time and because I need leashes for my dogs. We spent a lot of time looking at critters with my daughter; the animals look so much healthier and happier than I have ever seen in a Petco and the store is much cleaner. I was so happy about it and decided to keep looking for what I needed. Unfortunately pricing hasn't changed; same items as PetSmart and other places for higher prices (dog treats that I buy regularly). I saw clearance bins that said 50 percent off, 25 percent off, etc with leashes so I checked those out - assuming they would be advertised discount, but they were priced as marked, and normally $25 leashes were still $19 and or didn't have a tag, and someone an employee went to ask who seemed like a manager... didn't know the pricing either (and acted very unprofessional and not friendly - when did big corporate stores stop being relational and friendly with customers?! He finally decided that the price would be $19 in comparison with similar items, which is fine, but that's basically the regular price... so that was a bummer. Quick search on my phone found the same good quality leashes for $11ish on popular dog websites, with better pricing on the treats as well. Much higher pricing than PetSmart, clearance bins weren't clearance (I'm not a fan of advertised clearance that isn't actually on sale, the sale price was still twice as much as other pet stores and online)... so while I think Petco has improved their animal care, I will continue to not purchase pet supplies here because that would be crazy. If the employees cared about their marketing and relationships with customers when discussing issues I might feel differently... but truly, customer service via email for online pet sites like chewy.com and others is so much more friendly even in text. I'm sad that in-person stores are going out of business but people don't want to shop in person when employees are not helpful and friendly and the online ones are available and personable. But I do think you can get a healthy pet at Petco now when you couldn't in the past and you can't get those online - so maybe don't write them off completely. Oh and! You can get Star Wars cat Leia buns here - so if you're into that, those probably can't be found elsewhere either. They do have some Niche items. Lol. read more

My wife and I waited at this Petco for an adoption event yesterday evening and the customer service was AMAZING! The manager allowed us to sit and wait for the puppy adoption and the staff would stop by and check on us as they were working. It sucks that we stayed in line for five hours to be told at the start of the event that the dog advertised would not be there, but I must say that the Petco employees were good people! One day when I get a pet, I will definently stop by this Petco for good customer service! read more

The only reason I'm generously rating this location with 2 stars is because of the animals available for viewing inside. However, during our visit yesterday, we were looking at some animals when a group of the employees were standing around near the aquariums of fish, and an employee with short hair with blue in it shouted "god$@#%" something. Husband and I looked at each other in disbelief, and he looked at them to see what the heck was going on as to why this person would say that. Nothing warrants that kind of language from an employee, especially one on duty and in close proximity to shopping customers as we were not far away. We decided to take our business elsewhere. I really hope management takes more care to "train" their staff on what is appropriate behavior and language, and I hope they remind their staff that employees represent the company, so this staff member swearing like this should be a huge embarrassment to the company. While on vacation, we took our Bichon hiking with us because she believes she is a big tough dog. After climbing for hours through ice, mud, and many sticker bushes, she emerged with black dripping paws and legs, several stickers that would stick to our fingers when we tried to remove them, and a beard full of grossness from all the sniffing and drinking from streams. We could not bring this ball of dirt home with us. We called and got right in for a bath and dry. The groomer didn't even react to how gross she was. She assured us the dog would be back to her puffy foo-foo self in no time. We were delighted to see how beautiful she was when we picked her up. The groomer did a great job (and Bichon heads are a lot of work to brush and dry). The only reason for four stars is that the store itself is under staffed. My husband and I have visited the store twice now since getting out new puppy. We have had EXCEPTIONAL customer service from one of the staff at Petco - Kaila. On both occasions she has truly be an excellent help, full of knowledge and taking the time to explain the different food options to us. She has been so welcoming and really went out of her way to help us. I made an appointment for my little girl to get a bath today over Memorial Day weekend. I scheduled the appointment online. I got a appointment confirmed email yesterday. This morning Tisha N called me and told me she needs me to bring her in at noon. She called at 9 am the day of. When I told her I was at work and asked why we are dealing with this the day of she got really defensive. She told me she doesn't check her schedule in advance and that she is a busy woman and has a life and that she was off this last weekend. I asked her that's fine but today is Tuesday why didn't you call me yesterday or last week. She said she won't see my little girl because i couldn't leave work on a moments notice. For some reason she thought that after this conversation I would allow her to ever give my girl a bath. I have filed complaints and I will never allow any stylist at this location to go near my Annie. On Tisha N's busy life I would have had to lose 5 hrs of work to accommodate the fact she won't check her schedule and has a life. read more

I go to PetCo just to get Halo brand cat food. I have found no other store that carries Halo brand. However, every time I goto this PetCo and the other ones in the area they always only have one or maybe two cans of the wet Halo food flavor my cats eat. So I end up having to goto multiple PetCo stores frequently to get the Halo chicken pate for my cats. I now just order it on the internet. They hardly have any cat items to choose from, its more of a dog and small pet supply store. Not only that but I went to PetSmart in Boulder afterwards to find the items I *still* was missing and discovered the prices at Petco were approximately 30% more expensive. Cashier was less than friendly, could not find our card in computer-I did not have my keys were card is. Looked under both names & phone numbers & was un interested in helping. We live close by and we always try to shop locally and promote local businesses but I'm not sure this place is worth the effort- we brought our dog Evie here once for a hair cut ( our usual groomer from petsmart was on vacation ) we took her in and they said they needed to see about her temperament first- after 2 minutes of dragging her by her collar and touching her they deemed her too aggressive ?????? Which is weird because she absolutely loves going in for haircuts on a monthly basis and will eagerly jump into our tub at home for a bubble bath ( she's also an older dog and thus mellow and not in the least bit aggressive ) we've gone in here to buy dog snacks since and every time we are in the store we always notice there are no dogs in for grooming - I'm not even sure they do grooming at this location as some friends of ours with dogs have also been turned away as well - overall prices are high and service isn't great ;( we really wanted to like this place ;( read more

Worst customer service! I was behind someone who decided to pay with a check and was patiently waiting. When another register opened, they just took the last person in line. If you're opening a new register, it is good customer service to ask the next person in line!!! Since I was snubbed, I continued to patiently wait in my original line. I am very disappointed with the customer service here and I will not shop at Petco any longer. I was never greeted as I walked in or asked if I needed help (I walked right past the cashier Danielle as I walked in and was shopping maybe 15 feet from the register. I walked up to the register where Danielle was telling a story to her male colleague and eating an apple. She grabbed my item, rang it up and spit out my total - never looked at me or even said a simple "Hello." I gave her my card, she took it and proceeded further with her story about her car accident: "That dick hit my car and tried to act like it didn't happen. I was like uh dude, you just hit my car."
