This PetCo is much better than PetSmart by Washington Square, well at least for the feline section. At this PetCo they have more selections for food, beds, litters, bowls, medication, shampoos, hygiene stuff, and toys. You can even buy their Petco brand litter and refill them the next visit for less price. One thing that is kinda a downer, is the price of their cat toys. The same string toy that we got at Winco for $2 something, is $9.99 here. Same toy just different color! So skip the cat toys here, but everything else is okay. read more

I'm not the type to jump on Yelp every time I have a poor experience, but this place is absolutely ridiculous. Today was the 7th time I'd taken my Labradoodle to a Petco location to be groomed, and 2nd or 3rd time to this specific location. I brought my dog in at 12:30 and asked for the usual, same as she's already had. They called about an hour later and asked me to come back to pick her up, stating they couldn't cut me dog's leg hair because she was trying to eat the razor (?). So, already not very happy, I come down to get her.... THIS is what they did to her beautiful, flowing tail hair. I'm sure they'll respond to this post with an explanation... the bottom line is they're WAY understaffed, but they know that people have so few options when it comes to reliable grooming. Don't bring your kids here unless you're ready to adopt a cat, or they hate cats. This PetCo cleverly puts the pets-for-adoption area right next to the cash registers, so the poor homeless kitties are kinda hard to miss. ...anyway, this place is pretty good. I'm only speaking from experience about their stock of cat-related things, as i've currently got six in my household (my cats and some fostered kittens), but i doubt it's different in other departments. There's a broad selection of just about everything, from litter boxes (covered, edged, self-cleaning, roll-to-clean, huge, tiny, cheap, expensive, etc) to climbing structures to collars to toys to foods. You can come in looking for a specific brand/item and probably find it, or bargain-shop and pick the cheap store brand. The staff is nice and helpful, and will show you where to find something when you can't track it down on your own. And while it does smell like a pet store, it never smells like a dirty pet store. read more

In the past, I have always chosen Petco over Petsmart. Today I went in looking for a Gentle Leader style dog harness. I had found one on the Petco.com website. I was stunned that the cost in store was double the price online. When I asked the employee assisting me to price match, I was advised that they would happily do so for competitor's listed prices, but not the one's from THEIR OWN WEBSITE! Talk about idiotic and ridiculous! I ended up driving over to Petsmart. They were not only happy to price match, they actually did so with a name brand harness, as they were out of the size I needed in their house brand. Today was my third visit so I figure I should probably write my review. I'm only writing this review for the self dog wash part, I haven't bought anything else from here. I stumbled into this store by accident, driving around the area. We stopped in to see if they had something to buy our spoiled German Shepherd. Turns out, they have a bunch of stuff to buy, but the best is you can wash your own dog. For $10, they provide the wash tub, shampoo, conditioner, brushes, towels, anything you could possibly need. My dog is a force to be reckoned with on the field, but she is very sketchy in situations involving unknown outcome. I am not able to take her to a groomer so doing it myself is great. The staff is friendly and always offer her a cookie after her bath to keep this a positive experience. I will be coming back for sure! read more

I booked training for my dog at this location, which cost $249. This was booked two months in advance. I showed up the first day of training to find out there was no training and they had no dog trainer. Their dog trainer had "left" but "told them he had notified us all training was cancelled." We received no notice, and no formal email from Petco letting us know training was cancelled, to be rescheduled, etc. The manager then continued to speak poorly of the former employee/dog trainer and said that they were a bad trainer, among other things. Ultimately this was incredibly unprofessional and the entire experience was disappointing. We were not offered a refund by the manager, nor were we offered an apology for their failure to communicate. The blame was placed on the former employee, and the attitude of the manager was "It's not our fault, this is on him." I sought a refund, and never received an apology. I absolutely would not recommend anyone go here for dog training now, or in the future. read more

As far as basic pet supplies, I can find most things I need here. For example, I found a flea in the house and freaked out, so last night I made it to Petco for some boric acid carpet powder. My animals are already on Advantage, but I DO NOT want those nasty fleas hanging out, having a party in the carpet. Gotta stay ahead of those suckers! Found the powder I was looking for. What I would like to see from PetCo is more natural food products. I know it's not their specialty but it would be nice to have more premium choices - cat food in particular. I have started doing a lot of research on cat food. Can't find anything top of the line here , so I will have to go elsewhere for food. But toys and other supplies can all be found here for OK-ish prices. read more

My dog is a very special little guy. The first time he came to this Petco to get his nails clipped he freaked out and knocked over their shampoo display. Then he tried to bite and so they muzzled him, and then he pooped all over himself (he needed a bath when he got home)! I was quite embarrassed but they assured me that everything was okay, and they somehow did a wonderful job trimming his nails. He has since been back and has calmed down (a little) about the process. I recommend the groomers at this location - as they are quite professional! It costs ten bucks and you need to have proof of rabies vaccination. Quite a bargain when compared to the trouble of trying it at home. read more

I have gone to Petco just off Canyon Road in Beaverton for years. Always had a good experience with grooming accept in the last year or two. It has been more and more difficult to get an appointment. They simply don't answer the phone or they tell me they will call back and don't. Twice Jeanie the groomer has not shown up for work. I find out when my two dogs show on time for a groom and I find out then Jeanie is not showing up to work that day. I'm sad. My dogs liked her but I'm not giving them my grooming business nor any business any more. Get your act together Petco. Jeanie has to go. read more

I have had a bad experience at this Petco twice because of the same person. Emma, a blond haired woman, was very rude and unhelpful to my family both times. We had recently lost a cat and were looking to get another. While looking at a sweet little cat we were thinking of getting I rested my hand on the side of the wall of the cat cubicle because I was getting tired of standing and she yelled at us from across the store, "not to touch the cats." It made us all jump and when I replied that we weren't she just glared at us. The time before she made us wait half an hour for assistance. I feel that she was very insensitive and rude to us. This makes me not want to come back here. This is a great Petco with an unwelcoming staff member. read more

I have taken my dogs to Petco Grooming in Beaverton for the past 15 years, but have decided never to return. Staffing issues in the past 1-2 years have lead to a rapid decline in quality of both grooming services and most notably, customer service. 4 times in the past year, my appointment was cancelled-- 3 of which were cancelled the day of service. The most recent one was booked and confirmed 3-4 weeks prior to the appointment date. I was headed out of town for the holidays, and thus timed the grooming appointment for the day before leaving town. Two day before the appointment, the grooming salon staff called me to see if I would change my appointment. The groomer stated that she would have to come in on her day off in order for me to keep my long-scheduled appointment. I've had multiple requests to reschedule in the past year due to staffing issues, by the way. When I explained that I could not because I was leaving town, she again stated that she was coming in on a day off to accommodate me. Firstly, this is exceedingly unprofessional to "guilt" a client into possibly changing an appointment. Secondly, waiting until just before an appointment does not allow me any room to change my schedule last-minute. When she agreed to keep the appointment, I was satisfied. On the day of the appointment, however, one and a half hours prior to the appointment, a voicemail was left stating that the appointment was cancelled due to lack of groomers. I was promised a call the following day to reschedule. 12 days have passed, and I've still not received this call. Shame on them. I'd love to share this information with Petco management to highlight activities which are resulting in lost business. I will never go back there again after their repeated mistreatments and disrespect for my time. I've even cancelled a recurring food delivery subscription so I will no longer give any of my business to Petco. read more

I've had nothing but positive experiences at this Petco (thank goodness, because I live less than 5 minutes away). I buy my dog food here, and it's reasonably priced. But really, what I want to rate is the grooming services! I got my dog last year, and took him here to get a bath and all that fun stuff. The shelter told us he was not a fan of being bathed, getting a pedicure, or getting groomed. Somehow, Reme was able to make our shelter dog look and smell like a handsome, new boy! Reme always grooms our dog, Chuck, and I am so glad we found him. Chuck is a handful, he's not very friendly, and he's kind of unpredictable...but whenever we drop him off and pick him up, Reme gives nothing but praise for our dog! Worst groomer ever! They gave my yorkie a flea dip/ bath and she's allergic to flea medications! She urinates everywhere for months when she is washed with flea meds, and it was not a service I've ever requested because of this. Now she will have to go back on Proin and I just got her healed... No-one even called me to check if it was okay. Asked for a manager and they sent a real winner back to talk to me. He did not even care about my baby's health and well being. All he wanted to do is blame me by informing me that I gave consent on the form with the TINY print that I never even got to read and was NOT given a copy of either. My baby does not have fleas. I am fastidious about this BECAUSE OF HER HEALTH ISSUES!!!!! They were just trying to charge more money. Groomers are liable for damages done to a pet in their care, no matter the form you have people initial. Also, great way to treat your customers. Called back because I left so upset that I forgot to pay my bill, and was told that I had to drive back to the store and that I couldn't pay over the phone. My pug is 11 years old and shame on me I have never taken him to the groomers. He's scared of Petco (I take him there to get his shots). Anyway, Liz, the manager was very gentle with him and treated him as her own (baby talk and all!!) They did a terrific job and said Jimi did really well -- even gave her his hind foot to clip his nails! They also gave him a de-shedding shampoo! I'm sure he did well because of their care for him. I took my 7 month old pomeranian puppy in to get groomed for his first time, and I could not have asked for a better experience. When I went in to book his appointment, the groomer who was currently working could see that I was nervous because my puppy gets scared easily and is very attached to me. The groomer made sure to book his appointment when there weren't many other dogs there at the same time and with a groomer who has a lot of experience working with scared puppies. When we arrived for the appointment, our groomer,Reme, was very welcoming and explained how he makes puppies comfortable during the process so they are less afraid, which put my over-protective doggy-mommy mind at ease. Reme made sure to ask a lot of questions to figure out what I wanted, since I have never had my puppy groomed before. When I picked my puppy up, he looked so great! Reme explained how my puppy did and how passionate he is about working with animals. I definitely recommend Reme for your dog's grooming experience. read more

So I go in to get some new booties for my dog. Her legs are going out and cuts the top of her feet when she walks so I am trying new shoes to find something that helps. I grab a M and L to see what fits better. The M rings at 4.00 and L at 19.99. The cashier, Elizabeth, says it's because it's an old label. I ask if I can go check to see if there is an L with that label. She says yes, but she knows there aren't any because she just pulled them. She said the inventory said there was 2 of the M bit she only found one and must have missed this pair. I trust her so ho ahead and pay. I decide to go look after I paid and there were 4 of the old label in L and about 8 in the M. I proceed to go back to the register and walks away, to leave me to wait in line again. Why lie to a customer like that and then walk away? Terrible customer service on her part. The other cashier was very nice, that's why I am giving 2 stars. Awwwwww!! It is clear to me that the staff at this PetCo in Beaverton/SW Portland love their animals. Every time I have frequented this shop I seem to overhear the employees talking with genuine concern and interest with the customers about their pets. I used to think, "What's the difference, Petco, Pet Smart?" But I have since formed a pretty solid theory on that. Petco has shown themselves to be much less commercial, the prices are better, IMHO, the people are truly knowledgeable and they aren't just kids on a summer job, they actually like cats and dogs, etc. I think they have a lot of great adoption and vaccination programs, as well. And not to disparage Pet Smart (that'll be a separate review, lol) but it's been my experience that their in-house vets and staff have all the caring and compassion of a team of cranky cyborgs. Best of all, Petco is the ONLY pet store or store period that carries my cats favorite cat food. Yes I spoil her but she's worth it. (And the good people at Petco don't look at me all funny for that fact). ;-) read more

Manager in the grooming is wack. Don't go to this petco if you want your dog groomed properly. They left cotton balls in my dogs ears after they were suppose to have been cleaned properly . She could've got a huge infection . When I called to complain I was told come in and the next service will be on us I'll put it in the notes, but today I came back because I was on this side of town and apparently the guy who I talked to is fired, they only honor their word for 30 days after that they don't care. All I wanted today was my dogs nails cut and filed , manager wouldn't discount it a dime, didn't honor what I was told on the phone. The groomers here are terrible. Our dog got a serious infection from using them. We have also paid extra for zoom groom multiple times and have not gotten what to we paid for. Not to mention when we previously tried to make an appointment the grooming department hung up on me twice because they couldn't work the phones. Today I purchased a $150.00 Marineland bio filter for my fish tank at the Beaverton Petco. When I got it home to set up I noticed it was used and parts were missing in it. No problem... I'll just go and return it and get an unopened one. It happens... When I went back to return it they didn't have another one for a 55 gallon tank. That's okay I'll just get my money back in cash. NOPE! I have to wait 5-7 business days to get my money back since I paid with my debit card. This is a pretty bad inconvenience considering I spent half my day driving back'n fourth to Petco. I spend $100's of dollars here on $80.00 flee collars times2 , Dog food,fish supplies, etc. Customer service here is horrible. Make sure if you spend your money here at Beaverton Petco to use cash. This is my neighborhood Petco, and I often have a 4 to 5 star experience with my husky. Everyone is nice and informative. However, the last time I went in was feb 7 to get my dog a "mini makeover" at the pet salon. The groomer took my dog in as a walk in because it was not busy. She then claimed it would take only 8-10 min when the package came with a 15 min brush out apart from the nail cutting and ear cleaning. I even asked how would the whole service be less than 10 min when the package included a 15 min of brushing and all she responded was "yeah". My dog was brushed out for a total of three minutes, and was out of the salon in 10 min. read more

I come to this location often just because is close by, it used to be better up until about a year ago, there were more people helping in the store, and they were friendly, last few times I have been there to get some dry food for my dogs, there was nobody in the store, nowhere, and I ended walking around from aisle to aisle for over half hour without being able to find any employee, they would benefit by hiring more staff. Last time I was there and I finally found one, she employee looked very annoyed, maybe because she was the only one at the store at that moment, and when I asked where I could find a specific brand of dry food in the smaller package, she said they do not come in smaller bags, that was the only size, but I know that to be incorrect, I also noticed that few very good grain free brands they used to carry, they have been removed from the shelters, and have been discontinued, I also think that they used to carry a larger selection of grain free dog treats, in the past. I have gotten fish from this Petco before and haven't really had many problems although I really prefer to get my fish and aquarium products from a place called Tropical Hut on Division. Anyway, about a month ago I went to Petco to buy some supplies and bought two Green Glo Barbs and two black Mollies. BIG mistake. They looked fine when I bought them but apparently they had the Ich parasite and within two weeks almost all of my fish were dead. This is the first time I have ever had to deal with Ich and if you don't know about it, it is DAMN hard to get rid of. However, when you buy new fish, you can do a half dose of Ich medicine and that will hopefully get rid of it. I would think Petco would have done this with their fish...but apparently not. Definitely never buying fish from here again. read more

I loathe going in to this store. This is just personal preference, but I don't like salespeople who hover around me, follow me around, and ask me if I need anything every 30 seconds. I also don't like it when these same salespeople openly judge the products I'm getting, give me disapproving looks like I have no idea how to care for my pet, then suggest a much more expensive alternative to what I'm buying. To them I say, "Go soak your head!" I've been around animals since I could walk, pal, I think I can determine which shampoo is right for my pet. read more
