I will NEVER support this store again, especially finding out that they support PUPPY MILL BREEDERS. I always thought they did but there is now proof of it. Terrible living conditions for their animals, sick animals, animals without food that should be free-fed... ridiculous! There was a female rat (among all the other rats/mice) in their feeder room who had hair-loss, a massive tumor and probably about 20-30 babies in a filthy cage, I wouldn't be surprised if she was pregnant again as well! I bought three "feeder" rats to keep as my first pet rats. I got two on Nov. 2nd 2014 and one on Nov. 8th 2014. Bear was a blue hooded, he progressively got sicker and when I took him to the vet she said he likely had a blood infection, a URI and some other issues. I had to make the hard choice to put him down to end his suffering a month after I brought him home. Elephant was tan/beige-y colored, he also got sicker (and depressed from losing his close friend, I'm sure) and passed away a exactly a week after Bear, right before we could start him on meds. I started Archie, the black berkshire dumbo that I got on Nov. 8th, on the meds just in case he had anything even though he was acting healthy because I was determined to keep my third baby alive. He is thankfully still going strong and has become a monster nearly three months later after the meds, the bowls of baby food/baby cereal, part of my dinner every night and all the love he could get. Archie now has three new brothers, who all came from a much better source that Pet World, and is the sweetest big "brother". read more

I've personally witnessed animal cruelty in this establishment, for YEARS. I've gone about all the legal routes I can think of to change things, but just today I came across another horror store from them, resulting in a horrific death of one of their animals. They admitted the names of their 'puppy breeders', and they are puppy mills. They deleted and blocked me from their facebook page for just asking them to show proof their dogs are not from puppy mills, that they are not supporting one of the foulest forms of animal cruelty our country sees. Does that sound innocent to you? Nope! Then they answered finally with their list of breeders, and a quick search showed them to be puppy mills. Buying these puppies ensures their moms, dads and siblings who are held back for breeding will continue to live a life of torture. Buying these dogs doesn't save them! It hurts so many more. In this day and age - this is NOT oaky, and can't be allowed to continue. Otherwise we can't call our race 'civilized'! read more

This place does not get any stars, they system forced me to put at least one. I have contacted PETA, The City of Hampton Animal Control and Humane Society of the United States. Yesterday, August 14, 2016, I saw all the animals in this awful place gasping for air. The puppies and middle dogs were sleeping and panting, the rabbits were panting. They only had a fan in the back and no air conditioner on for the animals. I was hot in the store and I have skin, so imagine how they felt. I cried and I am a strong person. HELP CLOSE THIS PLACE DOWN.....NOW. I AM SORRY IF THEY LOOSE THEIR JOB, NO WAIT...... THEY OBVIOUS DO NOT CARE AS THEY HAVE NOT REPORTED IT!! NO ANIMAL, HUMAN OR INCEST SHOULD SUFFER LIKE THEY ARE. **I saw crickets on the floor as I was leaving....seriously read more

"Welcome to Pet World we we treat your pet like family." This is absolutely disgraceful, if you treat your family like you do the pets there you should be in jail! I've been reading up on this store and talking with people who shop there and you need to be shut down like yesterday, I have no idea how you are still in business! Seems like you only care about the dogs and nothing else. Own up to your mistakes and stop just deleting comments without giving any proof that you care. I hope the cops show up for animal abuse and embarrass/scare the crap out of you. You people don't deserve any kindness or leniency. So much shame on you, times 78043784032!! Disgusting. Only put 1 star because I had to put something YOU DESERVE NO STARS. read more

Really, the best pet store in Hampton. I've shopped the big brand stores in NPN and Hampton. Can never get feeders for the reptiles. Grew tired of paying $10 for a small feeder vial and getting 5 out of a tube of larvae eggs. And addressing to the store staff issues with their vendors is returned with a shrug or 'I know.' I don't want to hear from a cashier 'go to such and such store...' I simply want the product in stock, consistently Here, I bought the same product in what looks like a Solo cup for double the price. And all the larvae eggs show movement Well worth the price. They have my business. The other two brand name stores have lost my money. read more

Love Pet World and everyone that works there! They have undergone some major changes over the past few years and man, what a world of a difference! Staff is like family, they host a cool & free reptile event once a month called Scaley Saturday which brings alot of people together. Almost every month someone comes in afraid of an animal but after talking with staff and people who bring their animals in, they walk out without that fear! Bigger and brighter things in the future for them! Also can't forget the most incredible store pet, Chloe! Stop by and check them out!! read more

Horrible !! All their puppies are from known puppy mills ! The smell that hits you when you walk in is breath taking! All the small animals including chinchillas, guinea pigs, rabbits etc are poorly cared for. It breaks my heart! Last week they had 2 baby ferrets in a disgusting, uncleaned broken cage. There was no litter pan , empty DIRTY water bottle and NO food!! As a ferret owner, it is imperative ferrets are supplied food AT ALL TIMES! The filth these live in is unacceptable! ! Do not support them! read more

Can someone please explain how a person from San Francisco and Philadelphia could possibly write a review of a store in Hampton, VA??????? Don't fall for this type of deception. These type of reviews happen all the time from people that have never stepped foot in the store in question. I buy our pet food there and it's a pet store like any other. These poor reviews from people that have never been there should be ashamed of themselves. You have to ask yourself if a competitor has an agenda. read more

I'm appalled that a pet store would allow a gecko to get to the point of mere bones, stuck shed and covered in its own filth.. Your job is to care for and protect animals, not neglect them of their basic and medical needs. This gecko should have NEVER been allowed to get to this point. I hope you know that the poor thing died a day after you gave it away. Thank god it died in the arms of a loving person that fed it one last meal and not in that empty tank read more

Utterly revolting place! They let a leopard gecko starve to death and when confronted about it on Facebook they made excuses before deleting the comments. Shameful pet store that seems happy to abuse the animals that have the misfortune of residing there! Appalling living conditions of a lot of the animals and terrible at owning up to their wrong doings!! AVOID!!!!! read more

this store clearly knows nothing about caring for their animals. I have friends who have gone to the store and read other reviews and have heard NOTHING but horror stories; this shop needs to be shut down immediately, or have their shop inspected and punished for their absolute torture chambers that they keep the animals in. Change is due for sure. read more

Puppy mill dogs, filth, the smell hits you when you walk in the door.. Sick, dirty, injured, feather-plucked, cramped, DEAD, rotten, parasite infestations, emaciated etc. - all words that apply to their animals. The lack of kindness and respect shown to these animals is mind blowing. read more
