This is a smaller pet store on the outside of Findlay Market. It mainly offered food but did have some toys and supplies as well. It has more dog-centered merchandise but has a good variety in their kitty corner. My cat LOVED the Weruva flavors I chose for him, and will definitely be back to stock up on more for special meals. However, just like human food, I've always questioned the quality of my dog's food. When I moved to Cincinnati I was overly thrilled to find Pet Wants. A company that worried about the same thing so they started making their own food for their pets. Fresh all natural ingredients. My dog had a bad skin problem for a handful of years. The vet would give him a shot every year for it and it wouldn't really clear up. I started feeding my dog Pet Wants food, and it's when four years since he has had that skin problem. I'm not really surprised to find out it was the food making him break out. The dog loves the food and I love that. I love supporting a local store with all natural ingredients. There are so many about things about this place that I love. First, its locally owned. Second, they use fresh local materials in their dog food. Third, the people who work there are pet lovers, and will take the time to talk to you about any and everything pets as well as give advice or tips they might have. Fourth, they deliver! If you live within 5 miles of Findlay Market they will deliver your pet food to your place. How cool is that!? The store is tiny but has some toys as well as treats. The biggest draw for me is their dog and cat food. It is more expensive than Iams or another large brand, but it is made in Ohio and is very fresh. When we gave it to our dog mixed in a bowl with his other food he and ate around the Iams, eating only the Pet Wants food. Needless to say, that was enough to sell us. I've always been skeptical about fancy dog food. They're dogs, after all and have survived thousands of years on anything from old shoes to t-bone steaks to entire bags of hershey's kisses, foil and all (ok maybe just that one time). But I gotta say, the food from Pet Wants makes a HUGE difference. One of my dogs apparently has a corn allergy (as was suggested by one of Pet Wants employees) and most commercial dog food has corn and corn gluten in spades as a filler. In the month or so since we started feeding him the Pet Wants food, his hair, which was beginning to thin out due to him scratching and biting himself has almost already fully grown back and his attitude, which was previously cranky (you'd be too if you were constantly itching with a perpetual stomach ache) has done a 180 and he's happier than he's ever been. Our other dog, needless to say is a beneficiary of the awesome new food and has started behaving much better as well, although he still makes a break for it any time a door opens, but that's just because he's an idiot. read more

I continue to be impressed with Pet Wants. Turns out my pups are not too small to get in on the food delivery system. We order 7lbs of food per month and they drop it at our doorstep at the beginning of the month. They even bring it in this super cute burlap bag and when we are done we just leave the bag outside and they swap it out with new food. We have been on this plan for about 6 months and it has been so great! This way we never have to run to the store. It's really convenient and its high quality food for a steal. And they pay their employees $15 an hour! I love going to Pet Wants for treats for my dog (cookies range from $1 to $3) and really like the Vine Street and Findlay Market locations, which also have frozen treats, chew toys, and novelties like poop bags. Love this place! The 2 women that are there 98% of the time I stop in for my dogs food are very friendly. You are always greeted when first entering and they make sure to take notice to your pet. I literally just got the first deliver of this dog food and my Boston loves it. I purchased the chicken and the lamb...he can't decide which one he likes more. The food smells very fresh even when I opened it. So, the reason I tried going with this dog food is because my dog was having terrible gas with his previous food (that he has eaten for most of 7 years) and I tried several different and new dog foods. His tummy is also pretty sensitive. Anyway....I tried high rated bran food to moderate...my dog either started having tummy issues or just not wanting to eat the dry kibble. (His trick to get me to feed him turkey and chicken I'm sure) So far so good with his tummy. No problems there. I'll have to update after a few weeks or months go bye just to make sure all is well...but I swear he's been smiling and even kissed me after his first few meals. My Boston a happy. .I'm happy! I only hope that the prices stay competitive. I did have it shipped to california. Price included with flat rate boxing is pretty affordable. I can say if the per pound rate went up in price....it may make it difficult to justify to my wallet :/ BUT! Let's not talk about what hasn't happened! They will even deliver it to you for free. My dog loves their duck feet (gross looking) but it's a really good protein rich treat for them. While small, this recent addition to the Findlay Market family carries a variety of quality food choices and treats that are made right here in Ohio. Our dogs love the chicken and rice and it's healthier than what they were on before. Pet Wants' toys and accessory selection is also great. While some may consider their accessories to be pricey, I love the fact that they carry a lot of eco-friendly products like padded collars and leashes made with hemp or all-organic plush toys. Other services they offer are pay-by-the-pound dog, cat and bird food as well as free local delivery within a five mile radius. You can't get that at your big box store. We like fresh food and that we can buy a 2lbs at a time without paying twice the price (big box stores charge double for small bags). Our pup will not eat stale food and is small so he doesn't eat a lot daily. We bought the bison duck kibble for our mini schnauzer and he was in heaven. Also his #2's were great. Sometimes he struggles and we struggle to find food that doesn't upset him. This food was great. I wish we lived in Cincinnati just because of this by the lb local food! Mr. Darcy loves the Lamb & Rice (he is also a fan of the Chicken & Rice). and I am a fan of the staff and overall splendor of the store. The staff are so helpful- especially for me a first time dog owner. I bombard them with questions and they are patient and knowledgeable. The food is fresh and as I said my dog loves it. I bought him a sweater in December (because it was the only one I have been able to find that is long enough for him) and it is adorable. We decided to start our seven-month-old mutt on the puppy food, and he absolutely loves it. It's a little more expensive than that bag of Iams we were purchasing every month, but I think the trade offs are well worth it...we're feeding him a quality product while giving our support to a local business. I was looking for some gluten-free and lean cat food for my bond villain ornery tabby (he is getting to be a bit of a fatty) when I stumbled upon Pet Wants. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. I tried a sample of the dry cat food. The smell attracted my cat and he was so excited about the food that he stole the bowl of food from me and scarfed it down in minutes. The wet cat food section had decent variety (flavor-wise, not brand-wise). My only disappointment was that the store really caters to dogs. Not much dry cat food or product diversity for cats. It would be nice if there were more flavor choices for the dry cat food or toy/treat choices to choose from for cats (my cat gets bored very easily). The delivery sounded convenient so will be trying that out (fyi--free delivery is not really free. There is a monthly $3 fee). Overall, great place to explore! read more

I'm pretty sure they even offer free food delivery if going to Findlay each time you need food is inconvenient for you. I love Pet Wants - I recently started buying their food for my two large, high energy dogs, and they love it. Usually really picky about food, both of my dogs love the taste and are actually able to eat less than they did of their old national brand. But my FAVORITE thing about PetWants is their DELIVERY SERVICE. It. Is. AMAZING. While their shop in Findlay Market is really cute and a nice place to stop by on the weekends, it just really isn't that convenient for me to stop by during the week. And with one of the main reasons that i switched to their food is that it is made fresh, I didn't want to stock pile large quantities and let it get old in my basement (kinda defeats the purpose). Their delivery is really great - get all the food you need delivered weekly (you can either do recurring delivery or one time delivery) as well as any treats or extras - so convenient. I was in today for the first time and very pleased with my experience so far. I came home with a bag of PetWants puppy food today and saw that my puppy had left his whole bowl of "regular" food untouched all day. I replaced half of it with their food & he chowed down, licking his bowl clean! Then I did a comparative study with the "all natural" dog food we've been buying him and it turns out the "healthy" brand name is actually more expensive from the big box retailer (about 35 cents a pound more!). And they don't deliver for free! And it has corn meal & other fillers in it! Whaaa!? Needless to say I will be signing up for their free delivery service and won't turn back to the big box pet store ever again. The salesperson was also very friendly and helpful and the doggie treats smelled delicious - even to my human nose. Such a convenient location right next to the parking lot at Findlay Market. Parking at Findlay is free for the first hour M-F which makes it even MORE convenient! Today when picking up some food for my kitties I came across an interesting situation. The clerk told me that I could only buy 5lbs of kitty food today b/c they were selling more than normal and the restock was still 2 weeks away. Now for those folks not familiar with kitties, 5lbs of dry food is PLENTY and my girls will continue to eat well. But for the good of the community of all the kitties they ration the food sometimes if the stock is lower than expected. This is good for us all. Can you imagine stopping in to pick up food and them being totally out of stock?!?! That would not fly in my house. My kitties don't transition well to new food. In the 2 years that I've been buying food through Pet Wants this is the first time I've experienced this. While I used to think this place was great, my mind was changed today entirely after their dog literally attacked me multiple times and the owners did absolutely nothing. I have no respect for them or their business any longer and would not recommend going in there especially if you have children. Please do not go there and support their lack of control over their own dog when they indeed own a pet store. Not to mention, they said they it may have been because I had food on my bag. This is odd that they would keep an aggressive dog in their store when in fact they are located in Findlay Market. This place is awesome! I have two border collies that absolutely love their Pet Wants food. I walked in today to pick up some dog food and saw that they had a new flavor (white fish and duck). I asked the girl at the counter if they had gotten any feedback about the new flavor and she said most dogs were big fans so far. Since my dogs are a little picky, I stuck to their usual flavor (salmon) but the girl gave me a sample of the new flavor so my dogs could try it. The primary business that this Findlay Market shop does is pet food. If you're interested in feeding your pet a local product, this is the only place I know of that you can find it. Unfortunately, pet food in general is a highly controversial subject. There are a lot of claims about ingredients in dog and cat food, and not a whole lot of scientific research on these topics. If you walk into Pet Wants, do be prepared for a sales pitch that explains why their food is healthier than commercial products. They even have a notebook with the ingredient lists of all the major brand of dog foods, and they will do a detailed comparison. Pointing out all the "bad stuff" in major label dog foods is a typical marketing scheme for smaller pet food companies. However, all that being said, I do think that Pet Wants is offering a quality product. If their philosophy matches yours and you are okay with their prices, go for it. They have a lot of great things to offer to their customers, like delivery. I do love looking through all their dog clothes, toys, and treats. They have some cool products that you don't see anywhere else. Their prices are a bit on the high side, but you might find something here that your pooch adores. read more

I stumbled into Pet Wants yesterday with my new puppy. We had just picked her up 2 days before in Richmond, VA and drove back to the city. She seemed to be having a bit of trouble adjusting to the new environment, so we stopped in to see if there were any toys or treats that she might want while we were down in Findlay Market. The owners of this establishment are just phenomenal people. They saw our puppy acting a bit lethargic and spent 20 minutes feeding her, caring for her and giving us advice on how to improve her temperament during the adjustment period. They were so incredibly nice about it too - not condescending at all. The folks at the big box pet stores always seem to be trying to push product on you but these folks really care about the health and happiness of your pet. They seemingly could care less if you actually buy anything from them - though it's hard not to when you see how much the dogs like their food and beef jerky. If I weren't moving to Pittsburgh in a couple weeks, I would shop here exclusively. Instead, I'll just have to visit every time I'm back. If you're a foodie, your dog should be too. Locally produced food, natural, at a great price. Essential treats, bones, and all the supplies to keep your buddy happy. Also sell cat food, bird feed, and I think rabbit food. But we're all about having a happy dog. We've been feeding our pup for about 6 months on the stuff, and she's as happy as can be. They do deliveries to certain neighborhoods on certain days, and if you want to stock up, they do sell a 55 pound bag at significant savings. read more

Ever since I adopted my dog 4 years ago, his skin and coat have been a hot mess. Shedding like crazy. Dry skin. Hot spots and rashes. All seemingly unexplained until I met the owners of PetWants who encouraged me to give their formula a shot. I figured what could it hurt? My dog was a pretty picky eater with a REALLY sensitive system. So I mixed his old food and the new PetWants food and wouldn't you know-he would pick around his old food to get to the PetWants.
