During all those years, not once did anyone ever tell me my dog was aggressive or had any behavioral issues. Then, around 2025, everything changed. Out of nowhere they started claiming my dog was trying to bite the groomers and eventually refused to groom her unless I got a veterinarian's note saying she was on medication. Imagine being told that after six years of bringing the same dog there without a single complaint. They had me genuinely questioning whether something was wrong with my dog. To make sure, I took her to a completely different groomer. Their response? They said my dog was an absolute saint and behaved perfectly the entire time. That told me everything I needed to know. I've also since found out Splash and Dash is under new management, and that's exactly when all these issues started. On top of that, I have another dog who has come home from this place with scratches and even bleeding. I can't say what happened behind closed doors, but no pet owner should have to pick up their dog in that condition or be made to feel like their well-behaved pet is suddenly the problem. After six years of loyalty, this is how I was treated. It's incredibly disappointing and frustrating. I used to recommend this place to everyone, but I absolutely can't anymore. If you truly care about your pets, I'd think twice before bringing them here

We usually only come to a Petsmart to get dog food for the dog's occasional visits to our home. Our last visit here though did involve picking up some starter feeder fish (29 cents per fish, and they are used as food for bigger fish if not sold) for the kiddos as their first pets and the friendly staffer here was helpful and a fun guy. The grand-darlings were given full responsibility for daily feeding and weekly water changing and they did ok I guess, as those fish lasted a week. They are on their second batch of slightly bigger fish, and they're still alive after a month or so, so they are improving their pet owning skills. Thank you Petsmart for adequately meeting our pet needs.

The reviews are not wrong about the small enclosures in-store but the animals are healthy and it's a small business-- what do people expect? Presumably you're there to buy an animal and will be giving them a better enclosure. It's a pet store, not a zoo. Compared to a big chain store it wasn't really that different, except that Kenn has more employees than you'd find in a chain store 5x its size (which says a lot about his priorities). He showed me the only two fancy mice that were available and when I asked if they should be bought together, he was honest. He said "I'm not going to tell you that they're bonded or anything, but mice do like to have company." He was clearly trying to ensure we didn't feel pressured to buy something we didn't want while also being honest about reality. He answered all of my questions about the mice and got me set up with the supplies I'd need without my even asking. He pointed out deals to us and offered us different solutions, immediately noticing that we had a budget. But the store had everything you'd need for a rodent there: toys, treats, enclosures, bedding, and the best recommended food. Two weeks later and the little mice we bought from him are healthy and happy-- and also beautiful. The grey one is really friendly and loves to be held, which is so sweet. The siamese one is a little standoffish but can still be held if you coax her out with a toilet paper tube. I did end up getting a larger 20-gallon tank for them that I found on sale rather than the plastic hamster cage I bought from the store (which-- again-- was kindly suggested by Kenn when it was clear we were worried about expense). Anyway, I really enjoy having these little creatures around. I'm thinking of going back to buy a rat!

Also, my Betta passed due to cancer last year (I had imported him from Thailand but he had genetic disease). I finally decided to get another while I was getting the Finch at The Animal Store. Kevin and staff are so nice. I am impressed with how clean and well stocked the store is. What an amazing selection of critters of all types. The birds are beautiful. Probably the nicest pet shop especially for Birds that I have been to in greater Chicago. I will definitely be back if only to admire the wonderful animals. I wish that I had those when my daughter was younger! They are adorable and are easy to assemble. Each comes with a fact sheet. Easy summer fun! Alyse, the store owner, is incredibly knowledgeable. I always have questions about birds and she is always able to help. She has even helped me identify birds by bird calls that I recorded! She has interesting and informational bird presentations that she can present for groups. Really convenient and a great way to learn! When you visit, don't forget to check out the guide books! I can run in and out of every single location and grab essentials when I am running low (e.g., cat litter, treats) and when they offer sales and coupons, stock up! In the dead of winter, they offer a sheltered, heated, space for me to "walk" my dog and my odd cat that freaks out in happiness when he hears me get his clear "bubble" carrier out and is excited to go anywhere. If you can write a review independently, without comparing Pet Supplies to a behemoth like PetSmart, they earned every single star. What is better than PetSmart? "Please be sure to thoroughly disinfect any freshwater plants purchased from this location. I unfortunately did not, and the consequences were significant. While the staff was friendly, the store itself appeared somewhat unclean, and during my visit I noticed several lethargic goldfish as well as deceased fish in many of the freshwater tanks. Although I initially went in to purchase fish, I decided against it and instead brought home some water lettuce. Within three days, my own fish became severely ill, and despite our efforts to save them, two did not survive. It appeared to be an E. coli outbreak. In hindsight, I should have sterilized the plants before introducing them to my aquarium, even though this is not something I have typically done in the past. I hope this helps others avoid a similar experience, and perhaps the marine and coral sections are maintained to a higher standard." I'm not at all surprised to see other people commenting that the store had dirty tanks. Deleting poor reviews after responding with a snarky comment says a lot about the business owner.
