We usually only come to a Petsmart to get dog food for the dog's occasional visits to our home. Our last visit here though did involve picking up some starter feeder fish (29 cents per fish, and they are used as food for bigger fish if not sold) for the kiddos as their first pets and the friendly staffer here was helpful and a fun guy. The grand-darlings were given full responsibility for daily feeding and weekly water changing and they did ok I guess, as those fish lasted a week. They are on their second batch of slightly bigger fish, and they're still alive after a month or so, so they are improving their pet owning skills. I arrived, and the other employee who was very kind checked me in. I asked if it's with the groomer to confirm. And he said "no it's with me today." I responded "oh I thought I booked with ____." The groomer heard me say this, and I didn't realize she was at the back of the room grooming another dog as i said that, but she spoke with an attitude "it's fine I'll do it." And then she muttered something unpleasant under her breath, complained, and left the room. I just took my dog and left. I am very disappointed and upset. Even in prior visits when I scheduled appointments with specific groomers, my dog came back not looking good at all. So, it makes me confident that they never give you the groomer who you specifically schedule with. That is not fair. In my prior visits too they would also cut my dog somehow. Probably because they just gave him to new groomers who are not as experienced. I already learned how to groom him myself because of how awful the grooming department is here, but I have a hard time with his nails and paw pads. I cannot emphasize my frustration enough.

Presumably you're there to buy an animal and will be giving them a better enclosure. It's a pet store, not a zoo. Compared to a big chain store it wasn't really that different, except that Kenn has more employees than you'd find in a chain store 5x its size (which says a lot about his priorities). He showed me the only two fancy mice that were available and when I asked if they should be bought together, he was honest. He said "I'm not going to tell you that they're bonded or anything, but mice do like to have company." He was clearly trying to ensure we didn't feel pressured to buy something we didn't want while also being honest about reality. He answered all of my questions about the mice and got me set up with the supplies I'd need without my even asking. He pointed out deals to us and offered us different solutions, immediately noticing that we had a budget. But the store had everything you'd need for a rodent there: toys, treats, enclosures, bedding, and the best recommended food. Two weeks later and the little mice we bought from him are healthy and happy-- and also beautiful. The grey one is really friendly and loves to be held, which is so sweet. The siamese one is a little standoffish but can still be held if you coax her out with a toilet paper tube. I did end up getting a larger 20-gallon tank for them that I found on sale rather than the plastic hamster cage I bought from the store (which-- again-- was kindly suggested by Kenn when it was clear we were worried about expense). Anyway, I really enjoy having these little creatures around. I'm thinking of going back to buy a rat!

I can run in and out of every single location and grab essentials when I am running low (e.g., cat litter, treats) and when they offer sales and coupons, stock up! In the dead of winter, they offer a sheltered, heated, space for me to "walk" my dog and my odd cat that freaks out in happiness when he hears me get his clear "bubble" carrier out and is excited to go anywhere. "Please be sure to thoroughly disinfect any freshwater plants purchased from this location. I unfortunately did not, and the consequences were significant. While the staff was friendly, the store itself appeared somewhat unclean, and during my visit I noticed several lethargic goldfish as well as deceased fish in many of the freshwater tanks. Although I initially went in to purchase fish, I decided against it and instead brought home some water lettuce. Within three days, my own fish became severely ill, and despite our efforts to save them, two did not survive. It appeared to be an E. coli outbreak. In hindsight, I should have sterilized the plants before introducing them to my aquarium, even though this is not something I have typically done in the past. I hope this helps others avoid a similar experience, and perhaps the marine and coral sections are maintained to a higher standard." I'm not at all surprised to see other people commenting that the store had dirty tanks. Deleting poor reviews after responding with a snarky comment says a lot about the business owner. I called ahead because I am 120 miles away in Freeport. The guy (Alphonso) said go ahead and bring it in and we'll try to take care of you. He worked with it for about ten minutes and concluded the same as me - it wasn't pumping. He went to the owner and she said I would have to get the manufacturer to replace it because "I didn't but it from HER". Well, when you buy a business, you get the products, the fixtures and everything with the business - including the customer base. I asked her if she would take care of a customer like me who had done business with the previous owners if they wanted to buy something from her. Of course she said yes, I said, well then if you are willing to take care of them, why won't you take care of me?" She said, listen I am not replacing it because I didn't sell it to you and asked me to leave. Unless you like doing business with somebody that will not help you if there is a problem -stay away!
