We have found the staff implements the proper procedures to keep our dog, as well as all the other dogs safe, secure, healthy and happy. We've gotten to know the manager and attendants and trust them completely to care for our dog's needs and keep her comfortable, safe and happy. Pet Ritz' prices are competitive. We have taken our dogs to Pet Ritz for over 25 years. We have perceived a decline in service over the last 5 years. Just picked my 2 dogs up Saturday only to find that COINCIDENTALLY the little ones heart medication ran out THE MORNING we picked them up. (Should have had about 2 weeks left at that point). To top things off I spoke to the manager on the phone just now about the situation, she spent the whole time on the phone basically defending their actions, as if I didn't know what I, their 25 year customer, was talking about. I actually maintained my cool so I do not believe her response was merited (frankly not merited by any professional providing a service I pay for) but she hung up on me! I'm a paranoid, worry-prone pet owner. But I feel very comfortable taking my two dogs here for overnight stays. Only reason I did 4 stars instead of 5 is that, given the expansive nature of the property that the dog boarding facility is located on (it's a huge, beautiful piece of land), I really wish the outdoor grass areas were bigger than they are. But other than that, I really have no complaints. The facilities are very nice, the staff has always been very friendly, reassuring and professional, they have onsite vet care, and we've even been able to see our dogs on the web cam. Their entry area is also beautifully painted and put together in an exceptionally professional manner. And while I know that's pretty superficial, I think having an entryroom that doesn't feel like a vet office or a low-grade warehouse makes a big difference for initial owner anxiety and in turn pet anxiety upon arrival. Most importantly, our dogs have always seemed in great shape after all of their stays. We've boarded for multi-day visits at least 4 or 5 times here. Their rates are great and our two dogs always have a nice room and access to a run that they can stay in together. I decided to write this review because my husband and I have been back in Los Angeles since 2007 and we'll be returning to Ann Arbor this summer. We're about to pick a place to board our dogs here for the first time since moving back and the reviews I've been reading of some of the places here in LA make me shutter. Looking forward to being back in MI again just so we can go back to a place we trust with our dogs. Worth mentioning that the place is a bit out of the way for us (we live in Ann Arbor, Pet Ritz is in Brighton, off the beaten path, and when we board we usually are flying out of DTW), but it's a pretty drive and we've always thought it's well worth it. This is a wonderful pet boarding center. We have used Per Ritz a few times for their overnight boarding for our Pekingese. We like that they offer packages or al la carte services. We usually just add on a playtime or two. They provide bedding and food if you don't bring your own. You can even go as luxurious as to have your pet tucked in and read a bedtime story! Romeo loves going to Pet Ritz. Their grounds are very clean and they are very straightforward with pricing, pick up times, and services. We will continue to use them for our pet sitting services in the future. read more

We boarded our dogs here for 10 days and it seemed like they didn't even miss us. You could tell right when you walked through the door, that they genuinely cared about dogs. They were great and had a great price. We would definitely bring our dogs back there again. read more

I would never recommend this place. I went in to pick up my dog from daycare and the receptionist told me about this great deal they were having - $100 per month for unlimited outside visits. She said the dogs would be outside playing all day. I signed up and dropped off my dog. I went to pick him up around 2:30 that day. There was no one outside - the dogs were locked in cages in a cold, dark barn. There were no employees outside so I went to the office. It was locked with no one inside. I finally found a maintenance guy and he had no idea what was going on. He called the owner who lived in the house next door. It took her 15 minutes to come over. She said they locked the dogs up from 12-4 or they would get cranky. I told her I wanted my dog - Now! I never would have let my dog stay there if I had known he was going to be locked up in a cold, dark barn for 4 hours. They don't care about the dogs, they just want the money! read more

I love Pet Ritz. The moment you pull into the property, you feel good about the place. It is so hard to leave my "children", but the staff at Pet Ritz are genuine pet lovers and take excellent care of your babies. There are plenty of options you can add on to give your kids the ultimate vacation, or stick with the basic lodging and you will still rest assured they are staying in a nice, clean, friendly facility. I had boarded my Jack Russel Terrier at a local vet hospital in Ann Arbor and arranged for my brother to pick her up on the Saturday prior to my return. Imagine the horror I felt when on that afternoon I received a call from him asking if I had made other arrangements, as Brittney was not there. It had come to pass that a worker had taken her out for a walk on Tuesday and she had got away. He said nothing to his employer and no one noticed her missing until that Saturday when my brother came to retrieve her She was a gentle spirited dog who loved walks and people, so I can only imagine how she was treated and why she felt the need to run. Thankfully, she was found at a local animal shelter unharmed. When it came time to board her again, my sister recommended Pet Ritz. I was hesitant at first as it is kind of far from where I live, but after talking to my new veterinarian, decided to give them a try. What a pleasant surprise! The facilities are made for pets. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The grounds are large and well maintained with room for dogs to roam.. The staff was very friendly and took time to answer all my questions. When I picked Brittney up, she was clean and happy. We used Pet Ritz many times and I think she looked forward to her time spent there as her own mini spa vacation, as she never seemed stressed when I dropped her off or picked her up. We had 17 years with Brittney before we had to put her down and now own three Australian Cattle dogs. We feel very comfortable leaving them at Pet Ritz when we are out of town.. The rooms are large enough that they can all stay together and there is enough staff on hand that they are well supervised during the many play times that they enjoy throughout the day. We really love our dogs, but when we can't take them with us we know they are in good hands at Pet Ritz. We have recommended to many of our friends and they all share our feelings. On August 2nd, I boarded my dog Ossie for the first time since 2013 at the Pet Ritz in Howell for three days. Over the weekend he began to cough, he contracted Bordetella (Kennel Cough) per the vet, I believe at this facility. Ossie is very ill, lethargic, when he coughs he struggles to catch his breath. It will take six months for his lungs to recover from this viral infection. The owner of the Pet Ritz denied it came from her facility and blamed it on my vets office. I took Ossie there on July 30th for an oral Bordetella, Influenza and another shot they required for boarding. Jennifer (the owner) refused to refund my money, she charged me $48 a day. I told her that she needs to step up to the plate and make it right, her response was " If I refunded money to every dog that became ill here, I would be out of business. She basically validated that Ossie contracted the virus at her facility. She continued to try to blame it on the vets office, Griffith Veterinary takes every precaution to sanitize their office and every exam room is disinfected after an appointment. When I brought him there Monday afternoon for his examination, I had to call them from my car to let them know I arrived and they told me when the room was ready for him and made sure there were no animals in the waiting room, then disinfected it after we walked through. The owner of the Pet Ritz emailed the forms I signed to me this morning when I brought him in. Someone not only forged my name on a form to not hold them accountable for specific illnesses contracted while boarding there, but signed my name incorrectly! She offered me a $50 credit for my next visit, really?? Does she actually think I would ever go back there?? Please shoot up a prayer for my little buddy, he is very sick.
