I can't recommend these guys enough!…read more When I finally decided to get my first gun dog (we always had them growing up, but it was time to be an adult on my own) I put a year and half worth of time and research trying to find the "perfect" dog. I called breeders, trainers and toured more than enough kennels across Minnesota and Wisconsin. And then I met the guys from Cannon River Kennels at the Game Fair last year. I was sold after a 10 minute conversation with them. In the 18 months of research and conversations I've had, I've never felt so comfortable and confident in both the kennel and people that run it. I purchased a lab puppy from them and she (Dagny) is the greatest decision I ever made! With the puppy they include an introductory gun and bird course that is 2 weeks in order to guarantee that you get a true "gun dog". She completed the course and I immediately signed her up for the intermediate course. Naively, when I first decided on getting this dog I thought I would do all the training on my own. I mean, come on, I've read all of Richard Wolters's books, watched Dokken's videos and bought out the training aisle at Cabela's. Then I actually got the puppy. She is hands down the best dog that anyone in our family has had to date and she deserved way better than what I could offer as a novice (or even the experienced family members I have) for her to reach her potential. Deciding on Cannon River's training course was easy when you know that you will have this dog for years and it's worth the investment up front. That being said, the training programs they offer are very reasonably priced compared to other kennels I had researched prior. They also go above and beyond between trainings. I know that they are busy guys, but there have been a couple times that I've reached out for advice between trainings and they take the time to ensure that Dagny is successful and healthy and that I'm informed. I've actually gotten better advice from them than I've gotten from our vet (whom I love, so that's saying a lot) and that's because they know these dogs. If you have the opportunity to go meet with them, do it. Talk to them and you'll know exactly why I chose them. I would also like to comment on the review below in which their dogs got sick. Unfortunately, anytime there are multiple animals of any kind together there is a risk of infection even when vaccinated (think of the first month of school for children...ick!) It's a risk you take when choosing to board or have your dog trained. While having a gun dog is new to me, boarding dogs is not. I have a 10 year old pug and I have more trust in these guys than I do of anyone else. Cannon River Kennels require all the same vaccinations/documentation and veterinary liability waivers as any other boarder or kennel. They don't want your dog to get sick just as much as you don't. They reassure you that if there are health issues, you will be notified, and I absolutely believe that they would. If there was an issue, it's simply in their best interest to do so because having a sick dog in their kennel risks their livelihood. Bottom line health wise, when I've picked up my dog she's been bathed, had her nails trimmed and was as happy and healthy as the day I dropped her off.

When I called back I again had to leave a message to which Jason called back the next day only to be rude talking over me constantly and when I told him I was just going to do what I needed to do ( by keeping my dog and not send him there) he started yelling at me and asked if I was threatening him, and then proceeded to tell me that this world was filled with disrespectful people. Let me add that I stayed very calm and never once raised my voice with him. Think twice and do your research on things before sending your dog.

I called them to see if I could get a refill if my vet in Georgia faxed in a prescription. They informed me of the price, got all my info and said they could call me when it was ready. Hours later I got a call from them informing me that my vet did not fax it in yet. I called my vet and they said they sent it, overall it was a back and forth game but I finally got my prescription. I was impressed that even though my pup was not a regular patient at this clinic; they reached out to me to let me know they had not gotten the prescription. During my second visit, I brought my dogs in because one of them had worms in their stool. The technician and the vet were so helpful and friendly. They each took their time asking me questions, looking at my dogs and asked me questions about life. They were genuinely concerned about my dogs and interested in me. This was impressive because not only did they care about the health of my dogs but they wanted to get to know me as an individual. The entire staff that I encountered were all friendly and helpful. From the lady I spoke with about the prescription to the lady that checked me out. The prices here for the prescription and both dogs being seen was reasonable. I was expecting it to be much higher. I would highly recommend this clinic. If I have any problems again with my dogs when I'm home in MN, this is where I would bring them. **FYI, there business cards are also discount cards. You can get $20 off your first visit if you give it to them, they are by the registers. I didn't notice this until later after my first visit.
