I especially loved their in-house "Dan's" label products. I brought several items home with me, including their BBQ rub, black peppercorns, and of course, coffee! Their hours are incredibly convenient (5:00 AM - 10:00 PM), which makes it easy to pop in anytime. We even visited during a snowstorm -- and yes, they were open! The staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to see us. It's like visiting your Granny's Home ;)

What a hidden gem!! Their $6.99 sandwich deal is an awesome value, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a hearty, affordable hike lunch. You can choose from one of their set sandwiches (like the Reuben, Silly Phillies, or Wild Turkey) or build your own from a generous selection of breads, cheeses, condiments, meats, and veggies. And it comes with a complimentary bag of chips! - Reuben - a warm, pressed classic. Generous corned beef, melted Swiss, tangy sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing on grilled bread. Super satisfying and perfect trail fuel - Turkey Cranberry - layers of turkey with cranberry spread, cheese slices, and fresh fixings. Sweet, savory, and delicious The deli counter is right inside on your left when you walk in. Everyone behind the counter was incredibly friendly, genuinely chatting with us about our hike plans and offering samples from the bakery. Our sandwiches were made fresh and hot in minutes! The overall vibe is that of a local neighborhood grocery with staff who truly care. We loved it so much, we came back for round two. Don't miss this spot if you're prepping for a hike -- Dan's does a trail lunch done right!

Visconti runs a little bit of a mini-empire in the greater Leavenworth-Wenatchee area (and…read morebeyond?). In addition to running the best Italian restaurant in the county, they also operate Fire and Ice (a pizza & charcuterie gastropub, and an ice cream & gelato parlor, respectively) at the Pybus Public Market in Wenatchee, they also have set up shop with a delicatessen in the ground level of their flagship restaurant in Leavenworth, near the western end of Front Street, where they carve and sling some of the most delectable meats, cheeses, and things in jars that you can find anywhere in Leavenworth! Having dined at Fire a few nights previous, my wife and I fell in love with the Hungarian sausage served there, and knew that we had to stop in and purchasing some, before embarking on our long drive home. Between that, some jerky for the kids, pepperoni sticks of various temperaments, mustards, pickled goods and the like, we spent a pretty penny making sure that our Christmas charcuterie board(s), when paired with cheeses previously purchased from the Cheesemonger's Shop just down the street, would be legendary. And they were! Few people, in the history of mankind, have enjoyed such a fabulous feast of cheese and crackers...and meat and pickled things, of course! No matter if you're suffering from the Christmas blues, seasonal depression due to our saturated and sunless winter weather, or just a plain ol' empty stomach seeking carnivorous and/or curdled culinary comfort, Visconti's has the "Cured" for what ails you. There are few maladies or conditions that can't be solved by a shaving of meat, a wedge of cheese, a dab of mustard, and a slice of preserved, pickled perfection. Prove me wrong!

We had stopped by the Leavenworth Sausage Garden for lunch, enjoyed their sausages there for lunch, and decided to stop by their retail store before heading back. It's small, with a deli counter and a refrigerated case containing some of the sausages, coming in packs of 4. We picked up a pack of the polish kielbasa, and bacon bratwurst. They have an award winning beef stick (landjaeger) that we wanted to try, and need to be gotten directly from the deli counter. All of it was decent, higher prices because of its location, with simple service. It wasn't too busy, with service being efficient: they want you in and out.

Self-serve was easy---make your salad and weigh it at the register. My large tray salad (see pic) was $17.21. It was two meals worth! The ingredients were all very fresh with a few spectacular choices--crumbled blue cheese, artichoke hearts, diced red pepper, cubed ham, roasted chicken, hard-boiled eggs, pickled beets, Kalamata olives, and sweet pickle chips. I love blue cheese dressing, especially when I can choose the amount. Dilly's is a little diluted and lacks garlic, but the crumbled blue cheese made it all work. Also, salt and pepper was needed--if it was there, I didn't see any. But hey, this is the most complete salad bar I've seen in Wenatchee. I also took home a Tuna-Tuna sandwich for Sherrie--she loved it. I think we're hooked! There's a loyalty program--1 Star for every $10 spent, and 50% off next purchase after 10 Stars. (Yes, sales tax is included in the calculation) What's not to like?!?!

We used to buy carrot cake Safeway Bakery once/year for his birthday, no problems....So then we went to Home Fires bakery in Leavenworth and bought a carrot cake, just as Tasty, actually more because they didn't overdo the sugar - NO PROBLEMS. Probably they are not adding anything to their baked goods to make it last on the shelf longer. Home Fires doesn't have to because they are SELLING OUT. Corporate Safeway should be ASHAMED for harming their own customers! Or whoever is behind these unnecessary additives. I don't have anything against any of the employees at Safeway, in fact I find them all exceptionally kind, helpful, professional, and hard-working at the Meat Counter, Pharmacy, and Check-out. I look forward to seeing Cameron, Steve, Alissa, and Tony, as well as others I don't know by name. We are regular shoppers at Safeway, and I'm sure any issues are NOT with the employees! I don't even like to post this, but it is pretty serious when one has 3-4 severe headaches/day for a WEEK! This is the worst case of food poisoning I have ever had. I don't know what else to call it. I am probably more sensitive than many - maybe it won't bother you - but that's why I went to Home Fires Bakery to test it and had no negative reaction whatsoever!
