    Paneer Biryani

I grew up in Hyderabad, the land of Biryani. It is very hard to find restaurants in USA that do a good job of Vegetarian Biryani. Most places will just serve veg pulao and call it Biryani. Persis is one of my fav places to get Paneer Biryani in the states... and the only one in Cedar Rapids area. We usually do take out and get the Paneer Biryani Family Pack. The qty is enough for 2 adults to eat a satisfying meal and have leftovers for atleast 1 person the next day. The family pack also comes with a choice of appetizer. We usually get the Mushroom Pepper Fry and love the spicy flavor. The food is 5 Star worthy, choose this place if you want to eat good Indian food. I am taking 1 star away for how long I have to wait after arriving on time at the restaurant for my pick-up. Dine-in service could use a lift as well.

*Takeout Only Review* (3.5 stars!) I discovered Persis through Yelp's online ordering several months ago and it was a quick hit for me. My go-to Indian dish is hariyali chicken, so I was sold as soon as I saw it on the menu. I've also become a fan of the yellow lentils dish (dal tadka) and of course their samosas and naan are delicious! Pricing and portions are on par with similar places in the area. The dining room is modest sized and gives me sushi bar vibes with the blue tile and glass dividers. My one gripe is that the staff always seem irritated and unwelcoming. It's not the end of the world, but it makes for an uncomfortable experience, even for a takeout order.

Stop wondering if you will like it and go. The food was the best I have had in years and the service was stellar. I had the butter chicken and garlic naan. Those who know me know that I don't take leftovers because I travel. You guessed it! My butter chicken leftovers are riding shotgun down the highway. Go. Eat. Enjoy.

Food is really delicious. I would say proper Indian Authentic style. Service is great and fast. Food received timely manner. Pleasant conversations with owner and friendly service. I'm very comfortable for dine-in since people are maintaining social distancing and all CDC protocols. These guys know how to keep the place tidy and germ free. They are sanitizing after each meal. I loved all the items especially pepper mushroom Entree is really good, Chicken 65 is in perfect crisp and spice level, Chicken Dum Biryani is really perfect and Hot garlic Fish Entree is really

Ambiance and wall decor is excellent!

Yum, everything was amazing. We had samosas, butter chicken, gongura goat, naan, and roti. All delicious. The samosas were crispy, the butter chicken was rich, and the goat was spicy enough to make my brow sweat, all served with basmati rice. The restaurant is well decorated, clean, service was good, food was great, clean bathrooms, what else can you ask for. If you like indian food give this place a try!!!

The soup and bread in particular? Total show-stealers. Uniquely delicious, and deeply satisfying. Applause-worthy. But then... the intermission. Despite pre-ordering, our meal arrived a full 30 minutes late. A delay so predictable, it might as well be part of the script. From what I've heard, this isn't a one-time twist--it's a recurring subplot. And the response from management? Less "We're so sorry" and more "This is just how the story goes." Here's the plot twist: I'd still come back. The food is that good. But sadly, the rest of my family won't be returning for an encore. Five stars for flavor, minus two for timing and tone. This place could be a blockbuster--but someone needs to fix the third act.

Seriously, this place can help. Try their Rasam soup, a little spicy-for some, but full of so much flavor!!! Didn't expect much from the veg noodles but again, packed full of flavor! Lastly I chose masala dosa which came with two different sauces of choice. All of it was superb and didn't break the bank. Trying more of their food next time.

I thought that I had posted this review back when I wrote it in January. Apparently I had not…read more Since I wrote this I have verified that the chicken entree I mention in the review was chicken 555. I have also tried a lot more items from here, which have all been fantastic. Those items are chicken biryani, chicken curry, chili paneer, multiple kinds of dosa, and a bunch of things they've given me samples of. Anyway, here is the review that I thought I posted: I tried Leela's Kitchen for the first time tonight, and I absolutely loved it! For those who don't know, Leela's Kitchen is a small take-out South Indian restaurant tucked inside of the Amoco gas station at the corner of Blair's Ferry and C Avenue. I tried a lot of things, and I didn't know what most of them were, but I'm going to try my best to provide what little information I can about the things I had. My favorite thing was a dish of chunks of chicken lightly sauced with a very flavorful sauce. I had asked for the chili chicken, which they were out of, and the guy who took my order recommended this and said it was kind of like chicken 65. It was out of this world! My second favorite thing was the masala dosa. I actually ate it with the sauce that came with my wife's samosas, because I absolutely loved that sauce, and I thought it went great with the dosa. (I think it's tamarind sauce?) I don't usually like samosas, but I thought my wife's somasas were better than what I'm used to. I also got butter chicken and rice for our daughters. One really loved it, but said it was a little spicier than she's used to, but not too spicy. (She's 12. So, she's not someone who eats a lot of spicy food.) Our other daughter didn't seem super impressed with the butter chicken, but she didn't dislike it. I should mention something about spice. I'm not sure about this, but I got the impression that the spice levels just are what they are (as opposed to how some places ask you to pick a spice level). The reason I think that is that the guy who took my order seemed genuinely concerned that the chicken was going to be too spicy for me. It wasn't too spicy, but my thought is that if they were able to adjust the spice level, he would have just had them adjust it instead of being worried about whether it was too spicy for me. I actually prefer when places just serve things at one spice level, though. If I'm going to try an item, I want to try it the way it's supposed to be. Restaurants don't feel like they need to ask my salt level, sugar level, garlic level, etc. I like when a restaurant just makes things the way they're supposed to be made. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal from Leela's, and will definitely be back!
