Worst liquor store in Athens Georgia, which is saying a lot because there's so many. Employees are beyond rude. In particular the old white man behind the counter. Perry's is less than a 3 minute drive from my house. The next closest liquor store is 13 minutes away. Moving forward I will happily take my business an extra 10 minutes down the road. I lived just down the street from Perry's for the last year that I lived in Athens. As most Athens residents will attest, most of the neighborhood liquor stores are not so well stocked and/or sketchy. Generally, they're for last minute emergencies only. While Perry's does not measure up to the ABC, it is much nicer and has a much better selection that most other liquor stores in Athens. Given the severe lack of liquor stores in the downtown/north Athens area, Perry's is a godsend. The interior is clean and nice and the staff is friendly and accommodating-- If they don't stock a particular item, they'll be happy to order it for you, especially if they recognize you as a regular. So all you Downtown/Bridgewater/Retreat/Campus Lodge Residents, give Perry's a try if you don't already know the glory! read more

Apparently Mr. Perry thinks ALL beer is good aged, which certainly isn't the case. Although I would recommend against buying beer here simply because of the higher prices and lower selection over other establishments, if you DO buy beer here, please check the 'best by' date. I've seen beers 6+ months past their 'best by' date at this store. And despite what he'll try to tell you, most beers taste noticeably different after this date. So they don't specialize in 18 year old scotch... or wine. And I love this place. For your everyday liquor store needs, they nail it. The staff if friendly, helpful, and they always remember regulars. No matter the party or mood, Perry's on North Ave has what you want on the shelf. Good selection of white/witte beers which is difficult to find in a town dominated by IPA & hoppy beers. Decent selection of stouts too. Friendly folks working the front. Will definitely be back again (and again). read more

I can't even give this store 1 star. Three weeks ago I witnessed a car hit a other car in the parking lot. The victim's car had a passenger in it when hit and the passenger ran after the car who hit her. The owner of the car came out of Perry's to actually see his car being hit. I could see video cameras all over the parking lot, as could the victim of the car that was hit. The owner of the car spoke to the owner of Perry's and simply requested footage from the video recording the parking lot. The owner refused to look at the video or even try to help the patron review the video. The owner stated there was nothing for the car owner to see. The patron stated he has been a customer of Perry's for over 10 years, unfortunately the owner of Perry's did not care and he said as much. It is so disappointing to be in a city like Athens that prides itself on its community, this 'local' business owner is not acting in the best interest of the community. So disappointing! Decent liquor store but if you're looking for good beer, go somewhere else. The staff is always friendly and helpful, but almost every single time I've gone in there to get a specific type of beer the bottles have been dusty and past the "best by" date. The general crowd of people going in the store gravitate towards the cheaper domestic beer (which is fine, of course), but this means their stock of craft beer doesn't rotate very much which leaves old, dusty bottles on the shelf for those who enjoy these types of brews. Never had a problem buying liquor in there, though, so if that's all you're after then Perry's will do just fine for your needs. Just be wary if you're looking for a lesser known brand of beer. read more

The store has a good selection but be very careful about the date of your purchase. I mentioned to an employee that a case of beer that was on the shelf was out of date and he didn't seem to care. So, I bought two six-packs and when I got them home I found one of THEM was out of date and the other was very close. I know beer is good past the "best use by" date, but if it's past that the price should be discounted. That's what Five Points Bottle Shop does and I'll continue to shop there and bypass Perry's. read more
