Please note: I'm a returning patient and already have another child currently receiving orthodontic treatment under their care. This isn't a first impression--it's based on my experience as an existing patient. Getting in touch with the office has become an absolute nightmare! I called on Wednesday around 2:30 PM, left a voicemail stating that we would like to proceed with their orthodontic treatment for my other kiddo, and never received a return call.  Yesterday, I called multiple times. The one time I was able to get through, the staff member was helpful and scheduled my appointment. However, when I needed to call back just a few minutes later, I was once again stuck in the endless cycle of unanswered calls and voicemail. After nearly four hours of trying, I finally reached someone again. To make matters worse, the automated appointment reminder was sent to both of my email addresses with the wrong appointment time. I immediately called the office at 4:05 PM to get it corrected, but once again, I was sent straight to voicemail with no response. The front office appears to be severely understaffed or operating with a broken communication system. Patients shouldn't have to spend hours repeatedly calling, leaving voicemails that go unanswered, and then receive incorrect appointment information with no reliable way to get it fixed. The dentists and hygienists deserve recognition because they provide excellent care and have always been professional and kind. Unfortunately, the front office experience overshadows that quality of care. I sincerely hope management addresses these issues because the current system is failing patients.

Prior experiences led to me switching from an HMO plan to a PPO plan, and I was quite fortunate to come across Dr. Jas on the insurance directory and Yelp. The 5 star reviews are very well-deserved. PFD is very transparent with their pricing and Dr. Jas is a wonderful dentist. She's very sweet and thorough and does a great job explaining procedures and dental hygiene practices. The front desk staff are also very polite and welcoming and are thorough with going over forms and invoices. They have a free parking lot behind their building that you can access through Pacific. I had a cleaning appointment, as well as a crown preparation appointment, and I'll have my next appt within a week for my crown placement. My crown prep appointment took about 1.5 hrs this morning and Dr. Jas explained what she was doing throughout the procedure and was very gentle and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

She has always told me honestly whether she thinks a treatment is actually needed or advisable. She has worked with me within my limited budget to make treatment and cosmetic dentistry decisions. She and her staff are patient when I want to know every cost before deciding. They are also consistently kind and incredibly efficient for a small operation.

He's highly skilled, incredibly efficient, very professional, and extremely ethical. It also helps that he's really funny and easy to talk with. He really cares about his patients and their well being. Dr. Lau has treated my daughter since she was in elementary school; she has a good relationship with dentistry because of Dr. Lau. The biggest compliment I can give Dr. Lau is that he has an incredibly light hand. Even though you're getting a dental procedure, it'll be the most gentle version of that procedure. My spouse walked away from a root canal thinking it was a light procedure. We love Dr. Lau and we think anyone new who comes here will feel the same way! His staff is also fantastic!

My situation is unique, so I will save you the long story/rant. After much intensive research, I found that Dr. Lau had the best reviews in all of the East Bay. I was apprehensive because our dental insurance had been deactivated due to budget cuts from this new administration. I was left despirit and in despair trying to find a quality dentist I could trust with my family of 6 with medical conditionsand disabilities. Coincidentally, my tooth chipped to reveal a cavity which needed to be filled before it hit a nerve. A week later, I found myself at South Shore Dental. My first visit was met with how friendly and professional everyone was. They were all incredibly kind, helpful, and created a feeling of ease and trust. Dr. Lau explained everything and answered all questions with thoroughness and clarity of the examination/consultation. I was especially impressed with his compassion and empathy as he listened to my situation and how it brought me to his office. I am impressed with his integrity and incredibly touched by his generous heart. The procedure was surprisingly comfortable, and there was no discomfort during or after. I loved how he walked me through the whole process as he addressed my concerns and made me feel heard and respected. I have been telling everyone how great Dr. Lau is as he lives up to and surpasses his reputation. I feel incredibly blessed have met Dr.Lau and to have him work on my teeth and esspecially how he went above and beyond to help me with all my concerns. Dentistry truly is his calling in how he is passionate in his profession, and it is reflected in his work and relationships with his patients. Not everyone in life can say they love what they do, but Dr.Lau can! God has certainly blessed him, and I love how he is giving back in God's name. Anyone who goes here can feel confident that you will be provided with exceptional care and an outstanding dental experience that far exceeded and surpasses all other places. Philippians 2:3-4: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others".

From the gloves and mirror to counting her teeth, brushing, and even choosing her toothpaste flavor, everything was explained so thoughtfully. My daughter even put on the sunglasses to protect her eyes from the bright lights, which made her feel more comfortable. By the end of the visit, she was calm and engaged. She received a new toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, and two tokens--which she happily used to get a gem and a necklace that she proudly wore for the rest of the day. Afterward, I asked what she thought of Dr. Denise. She said, "She's so nice--and Donna too!" Donna, the dental hygienist, was wonderful as well. I'm so grateful for such a positive and supportive experience. It made a lasting impression--my daughter even said she loved going to the dentist when we talked about our day at dinner. During the first consultation Dr. Johnson was very thorough and explained what I needed to have done besides just wearing the Invisalign trays. All the other consultations were pretty quick and simplistic and wanted to charge you more at the end if you were not happy with your results. Dr. Johnson gives you an upfront fee and ensures you are happy when you are done. Besides the doctors, the rest of the team are such rockstars. Kerri at the front desk has the office running smoothly. There was never any appointment mixups or that kind of nonsense. The dental assistants were all great and nice. I always leave feeling satisfied. Highly recommend!!!

Then every time we…read morewould show up expecting it was his last treatment, they would scold him and say, "You have to wear your rubberbands! We'll check again in another 4-6 weeks. " This happened in May, then August, then September, then October, then November. Each time he came out of a 6 minute appointment with the same vague prognosis and direction. He was absolutely 100% consistent with keeping rubberbands on 24/7. However, finally, today after 25 months of treatment, the doctor asked him to show how he was putting on the bands and realized he was not attaching his rubberbands at the right anchors which was affecting the movement of the teeth. When he was not progressing, shouldn't they have thought to do this 6 months ago? So I expressed frustration. The doctor tried to tell me that they had predicted the braces coming off in November but I could point to a note right on his chart that said September. She also tried to show me on his chart small notations that she said meant each time he has been in that they taught him how to attach the bands. He says no, they just asked if he was wearing them. They verbally told him what to do but never checked as today. He has also gotten contradictory directions; one doctor said to wear the left side always and the right only at night. Then a different doctor said to always wear both. Now this third doctor said he should have been doing the different schedule for left and right sides. This place is a factory churning people through in under 15 mins each. I did not think I needed to go stand next to my 16 year old and listen and watch over the care, but if you use this business, you definitely should. Shuffling patients between 3 doctors does not seem like best practice to me and you might end up with months of extra discomfort due to their cursory exams and lip service.
