Dr. Watts bought the practice from Dr. Irving recently and is many times better. Dr. Watts is intelligent, has common sense, and is understanding with me and with his staff. I highly recommend him. He has over 20 years of experience and is young at heart. He has done great work with me via my Invisalign retainers for by far the best price in town. He has clearly and articulately explained the process. He is extremely patient. Plus, I plainly feel lucky to have someone who puts his heart and mind 100% into it. Some of his staff are new so be patient with them if applicable as they are good people too. My daughter has been a patient since the fourth grade. She is now a senior in high school and still has teeth issues. After two rounds of orthodontia she is missing her canine teeth and was told she would need implants. She would have to wait until she was 17 or 18. I have called numerous times and no one has returned my calls. And the phone staff are far from polite, kind or seem to even know what I am talking about. I will never ever recommend this practice. As a small business owner and a Montclair native, I understand how hard it is to make everyone happy. But this has gone on for far too long. And it feels like a for profit scam. read more

Dr Irving and his team are amazing. I've had two kids receive braces/Invisalign here and for both the end result turned out fantastic. My youngest son's teeth were really crooked - the initial molds looked like a prehistoric fish jaw. I honestly was not sure how they could possibly be fixed - it almost looked like there weren't enough teeth for the space. But he is almost done with braces and his teeth look great now. My older son has movie star teeth. When we sent out Christmas cards, we had relatives commenting on how great my oldest sons teeth looked. Seriously, Dr. Irving is phenomenal. Eight years ago, I started my orthodontic treatment with Dr. Irving. To begin with, I was a huge 'fraidy cat when it comes to dentists, but I braved it for a nice smile. When I saw the steady stream of happy kids (and adults) of all ages coming through the doors, I knew I had nothing to worry about. I chose the ceramic braces, which was easily stained by the food I ate. Ewww...gross. Wearing braces is quite the commitment and ordeal, that I had mentally blocked it out of my memory...extractions (4 teeth removed!), monthly visits, rubber bands to align the bite, the pain (!) after each adjustment, difficulty in flossing through the wire, etc. Braces are costly, so thankfully...there was a monthly payment plan. Remember you can use your flexible spending plan (pre-tax dollars deducted from your salary)! Mine cost over six grand and took just under 2 years. And I have Dr. Irving to thank for correcting my overcrowded teeth. I have received many compliments since finishing my treatment. (Hmm...I couldn't remember which dental professional told me I had big teeth for a small mouth.) I love the attention to detail, like the numerous flavors offered for impressions, the various flavors of Extra gum in the jars, a brushing station if you need a quick cleaning, and stickers to make the visit fun for the little ones. The office was abuzz with activity when I arrived in the morning to pick up my new retainer. There are only two elusive parking spots in the driveway. There is always metered street parking and the Safeway parking lot (if you're desperate, but there's a towing warning for non-customers). Returning so many years later, I realized that everything remains untouched, from the staff to the interior decor. Only one member of the staff had moved on, only due to family relocation. Staff retention is a sure sign of a happy work place. Entrust your offsprings' smiles (and your own) to the staff at Montclair Orthodontics. They'll take good care of them =) read more

Why I would definitely recommend Dr. Irving, without question I had the most pleasurable experience which in many cases would be very upsetting. I felt very much at ease. I had my extraction in the morning and in the evening, he personally called to make sure that I was comfortable. He is excellent!!! read more

Dr. Irving is awesome. He's friendly, has a sense of humor and is excellent at explaining treatment options and each aspect of the treatment plan without making prospective patients feel rushed or pressured. He's also extremely approachable and helpful - MEGA efficient at working with other offices to ensure everyone gets the information they need at no unnecessary cost to the patient. The imaging labs will make things sound more confusing than they are with regard to what X-rays they need in addition to the ones done in an orthodontist's office. I'm sure a lot of orthodontists will help with this, but I've only had previous experience as a child so I didn't handle the billing and coordination of referrals. My case requires a lot of extra steps, and so far everything on his end has been completed practically by the time I got in my car after each appointment. I just got my lower braces installed last Tuesday after waiting months for other parties to complete said extra steps. He's taken mercy on me as an adult and given me a reprieve from the uppers for a few more months. It was painless and didn't take too long. His office staff is also super nice and helpful. The treatment plan I've selected and payment option is pretty straightforward. It includes a down payment and then a much smaller monthly. Plus, they will call and remind you the day before your appointment. I can't wait to update this review when my teeth are fixed! Tips if you're going to get railed soon: I recommend taking 600 MG of ibuprofen a few minutes before the appointment because if your teeth aren't already sore from the spacers, they will be. My teeth were actually more sore from the spacers than they have been from the braces and it's been five days. Also, the pain from metal poking at the inside of my cheeks has been far worse than sore teeth. It hurts to eat mainly for that reason. I should have put the wax on right away but I didn't realize how bad it would be. It's already feeling better today and I haven't had to use as much wax as the last few days. So, be liberal with the wax early on! I wish I had. read more

I have recently become a patient at Dr. Irving's practice in Montclair. He is very approachable, friendly and takes the time to explain various options and processes. As I am an Invisalign patient, he has set expectations clearly in regards to the outcome, (i.e. not perfect bite, but cosmetically pleasing), which works for me as I'm an adult. I went to Dr. Bradley as a child/teen for all my orthodontic needs. He is patient, gentle, has a great sense of humor and "bedside manner", and is competent, thorough, and left me with a set of perfect teeth, which have not shifted nor changed since my braces were removed about 10 years ago, now. He also noted, on one of my X-rays, that there was a small abnormality, which at the time COULD have been cancer, or an absess, or something else, and I underwent oral surgery to have it removed and diagnosed. (Turned out to be a randomly placed tooth-let, but it's great it was found and removed before it could fully develop and mess up my other alignment!) Dr. Irving and his staff are outstanding! For the record (in response to an earlier review, I am African American). I have taken my children to this orthodontist and I have also received orthodontic treatment at this office myself. I am extremely particular and Dr. Irving's office met my high standards. Additionally, I had braces as a teenager, so I am familiar with the process. I will also note that several of our friends, neighbors, classmates and church members, some of whom are African American utilize this orthodontic practice. If you have any doubts about their commitment to diversity, just take a look at the photographs in the waiting area. There you will see photos of many of their new patients as well as those who have recently had their braces removed. In terms of their professionalism, expertise and level of service, I couldn't be happier. They are efficient, knowledgeable and personable. They know who every single patient is when they walk in the door. It's not even necessary to check in. I never had to follow up on any billing with our insurance or second guess anything. Also, Dr. Irving referred us to our dentist, Dr. Lewis and we have been seeing him for years. Dr. Irving has terrific relationships with his colleagues. That speaks volumes! read more

Still no contact as to my records in over a YEAR. This really says it all. I can't believe I was only told of any potential side effects after my braces were taken off (and then required to sign documents then and there). It was mind-blowing because during this consultations it was about how this 'treatment' was going to help me in the long-term. Every surgeon, endodontist, and periodontist I have consulted with have stated that this was unnecessary and actually caused more harm than good. Removing teeth from an already recessed lower jaw (mandible) just doesn't make any sense whatsoever...... A skeletal malocclusion overbite really should be treated surgically. I am hugely disappointed on so many fronts here. I know 100% I said to Dr. Irving (as a 14-year-old) that I thought that surgery sounded better than removing 4 of my PERMANENT ADULT TEETH! I remember his words clear as day "well, this is what we have decided is the best treatment for you", without even referring me to a surgeon for a proper consultation. That is negligent considering my request as well as the fact that his "treatment" has only caused problems for me. I am in the middle of a huge reversal of what was done to me. It is costly, it is painful, it is ridiculous. read more

Best dental experience I've ever had. Growing up I've always had a fear of the dentist. That is the reason it has taken me so long to correct my soon to be beautiful smile. As soon as I walked in the office I felt at ease.I had a consultation with Dr. Irving and decided this was the orthodontist that was going to change my life. The billing person went through everything with me more than once to make sure I understood what I was paying for. Then once it was time to place the braces on I was more excited than nervous. My daughter had two rounds of braces with Dr. Irving starting when she was in 4th grade (2006) and 2nd round when she was in 7th (recommended since she had lots of crowding and I didn't want any of her adult teeth to be removed). It worked well and she has a beautiful smile! He had been recommended to us by friends whose kids had been to the practice, also with great results. We always had a positive experience with Dr. Irving. He is upbeat and personable as well as very skilled. We don't live in Montclair but found it was worth traveling the extra distance to work with him (and we interviewed other orthodontists way back then). Recently, my 16 year-old son with special needs required a 2nd opinion for baby teeth removal and Dr. Irving explained by looking at his X-rays that the adult teeth were ready to emerge once these baby teeth were removed. He didn't even charge us for this consultation visit, which was a pleasant surprise. He also recommended a great oral surgeon (Dr. Khalil) who was easily able to remove them which solved the issues we were having with another oral surgery practice. read more

Dr. Irving and his staff are great! We're in Phase 2 with our older child and, although we moved since Phase 1, decided to commute to continue coming here. Dr. Irving is very friendly, he clearly explains what you need to know, and he doesn't always recommend treatment. My kids are happy and grateful that they are getting braces and I think the attitude at Montclair Orthodontics has a lot to do with that! read more

Re: prior review, my son is African American and yeah, front desk staff aren't the most customer-oriented, but they are fine. Both of my kids are in braces - I have found the care and attention to detail outstanding! My husband recently had orthodontics with another local office however I was not impressed with staff, this was a deal breaker.
