If we missed an appointment there is a cost, don't think that is by-directional. second, once money was asked by me for ortho the doctor was sprinting out the door. was unwilling to answer any questions. soon after the one with a quota was ready for answered and actually did the feel felt found close. felt like I was buying a used car. we are looking at other options. did not feel like a medical appointment, more like a sales engagement, all for a 12 year old Ortho appointment. read more

I am so glad to have found a dentist that really cares about my kids and their dental health. Dr. Thenard is so caring, gentle, and kind. My youngest (who has a fear of doctors) loves her and looks forward to his dental visits. On our most recent visit he had several cavities and I was nervous about how he would react to getting them filled as he has a fear of needles. He's had a few extractions due to injury and all was good. The waiting area has a big ship and a play kitchen with kid movies on the TV. I have Guardian insurance which they accept. I've been taking my daughter here to see Dr. Ngo since she was four (she is now 12). My daughter absolutely loves coming here and is never fearful or nervous. The staff are welcoming and efficient. We've seen several different dental hygienists and they have all been very kind. The waiting area is spacious and has a small nautical play area. The tv's are always playing kids programming. Each exam station is set up with an overhead TV and kids get their choice of show to watch during their cleaning. They'll even give kids sunglasses so they don't have to suffer the glare of the bright exam light. Everything is designed and done with kids and their families in mind. Dr. Ngo is professional and very, very nice. She talks with both the kids and the parents. She takes care to explain how the teeth are developing and if there are any concerns to watch for. We moved to Contra Costa county several years ago, yet I still bring my daughter to Alameda for her checkups. The service we get there is really worth it. Highly recommend! read more

#2401027 Today my son's first dentist appointment was EXCELLENT!!!! I was so scared to come in, built with anxiety because my kid is special needs and I already knew that it was going to be crazy with how he would act. I'm SOOOO happy that the whole staff was amazing with him!!!!!!! We chose this pediatric dentistry because they specialized in special needs patients. This dentistry is on the 3rd floor, suite 309 at the JMH building. We came in 20 minutes early and Sharon was the front desk personnel who signed us in, verified our insurance, is very polite, professional, and personable. And they took us in very quick and we didn't need to wait that long. The lobby area had a play kitchen set that put my kid to ease. He loved playing with the kitchen set and it gave me a minute to indulge in the quiet atmosphere of the office. Chelsea came and got us and we went straight in to a private room (due to my son's sensitivity) and I am really glad that they had a room that has a physical door because my kid kept crying really loud since it was his first time at the dentist. Chelsea the hygienist was very attentive, kind, patient, respectful, and fun to be around for my child. She asked us about my child's medical background history like allergies and medication, then asked what channel my kid likes to watch on the tv (tv was on the ceiling for kids to lay down and look up) then she gave my kid a cool toothbrush to check out and calm him down. She also gave him some cool sunglasses so that he can put on while the dentist looks at his teeth. She also sang songs like wheels on the bus so that he can focus on the song while opening his mouth and letting her clean his teeth with the toothbrush and toothpaste. She was also very careful while doing the cleaning and she also comforted him when he cried. She did a fantastic job of comforting him. Leila the dentist was very sweet and let my child play with her gloves. She gave him a extra pair so he can put on and checked out his teeth and put something on it to protect it and made sure he had no cavities. We were happy with the results of no cavities! After he was done, Chelsea gifted my son a "Cavity free club 2024" sticker ribbon, a cars sticker, toothbrush, toothpaste, a toy car, sunglasses, and floss. I ABSOLUTELY recommend to any parent who has a child who is afraid to get their teeth cleaned- this is the place to go. We love this dentistry already. Chelsea helped us book our next apt in 6 months. Thank goodness to the whole staff made it quick and efficient with the service so nobody has to suffer with my son's whaling. The facility was well kept, clean, and tools came from sanitized blue bags. The office staff is well coordinated and friendly. The waiting area is comfortable and nicely decorated, with interesting magazines available. A small team of calm, friendly, focused clinicians took care of my daughter and applied braces in a communal space. I was surprised and pleased to be invited to sit near my daughter throughout the entire session. (I expected to leave the office for an hour, then return. Staying was a much better option for my daughter and myself.) Other kids reclined in their chairs, watching movies on screens placed above them. My daughter did the same. An hour or so later, the pain set in. It lasted for 2-3 days. Ibuprofen, soft foods, and compassion helped. Having braces for 18 months is hard. Alameda Pediatric D & O softens the blow. Originally had a good experience here until we moved to orthodontics and then it went downhill fast. We have had a horrible experience since. Was never presented option of traditional braces versus Invisalign. For a young child, Invisalign was not the right choice (and wish I had spoken to friends as those who opted for Invisalign all had similar experiences) - child lost trays, broke trays, connectors fell off. As a result we were constantly in the office and repeatedly they sent the trays to the wrong office so we had to wait or reschedule. Then was told could switch from Invisalign without a fee, only to be told when I returned that braces are more expensive and the orthodontist was wrong to tell me that. My daughter has been seeing the amazing Dr.Thenard since June 2015 (1 1/2yo) and she's gotten so used to her, its like part of the family. She's soothing and has the greatest approach for children. The whole staff is amazing and we even get to experience that on the ortho side as well. I am fortunate we can get seen for both our ortho and check-ups/cleanings on the same day. They have caring providers, great service from their reception, coordinators and clinic manager and flexibility with scheduling. Our sons have been receiving treatment from APN for over 8 years. We absolutely love Dr. Tung!!! She is thoughtful, kind, astute, thorough with her treatment, takes time to address all our questions and concerns and has a sincere care for our sons and their dental health. There was a period where we were having difficulty with our son engaging in tongue thrust. Dr. Tung was very collaborative with our family, helped us do research and also helped us explore different options to understand why the tongue thrust was occurring and how we could address it. She made sure we got connected with Dr. Cozin, (who is a talented and caring orthodontist) at APN. Dr. Cozin was able to consult with us and lead us down the right path so that we could connect with the appropriate providers to better understand what was occurring with our son's tongue thrust. The good news is that with Dr. Cozin's and Dr. Tung's help we were able to figure out that our son needed more space in his mouth to breathe hence the thrusting. If it weren't for their advisement and support we wouldn't have received the appropriate treatment to help our son with the root of the issue. Additionally, our sons enjoy coming to the dentist (which says a lot) and they look forward to picking up in their chats with Dr. Tung (who has an amazing memory of what they have been up to as well as things to keep an eye out for in terms of their dental care). Lastly, APN has a great team of hygentists who also do a fantastic job! I would highly recommend APN, especially Dr. Tung and Dr. Cozin! read more

We have been coming to alameda pediatric dentistry since our 7 year old had his first check up at a year and a half. We now have both of our kids here (+ our son under ortho care). We've seen Drs Ngo, Thenard, and Tung. We love ALL the dentists and hygenists, the front office folks...seriously, this place is amazing! Both of our kids love coming. The waiting room has fun kid movies playing while u wait. Plus, a play area with a kitchen. They have a video game system in the back for the patients while they wait. We cannot say enough wonderful things about this practice!! We moved through the tunnel to Pleasant Hill, tried two other practices and neither compared. We now drive back for our appointments and while it's not ideal, we are so grateful to do it! This is a place like no other read more

Went in for multiple extractions on my 6yo. Not an easy job. We chose this location because they did less invasive sedation. Liquid, laughing gas, local anesthesia. Son, mom and I were nervous. They made us feel very at ease. The doctor was amazing. So great with my son considering what he had to do. Thank you for people like you doc. I'm forgetting his name but will come back and post. Anyways very positive. Discussions were always informative and delivered with compassion. Amazing experience. Thank you all for what you do. If I can give no star , I would do so . I have appointment to setup for 2:10 today . At 1:50am, they called and said I was late for appointment!! The receptionist said that she left a message to reschedule it . But I don't receive it . As a working mom , I have to get a half day off for the dental appointment. My kids and I have to moved the schedule to accommodate this appointment. It is extremely hard already . At the end of the, she said we can accommodate you , but you need to wait for it. We had routine cleaning services done for my daughter they were fine until she had to get sedated for cavities filling. My daughter did not respond well to being strapped down from shoulder to leg on top of the wooden head board that was customized for it. I advised anyone that's considering getting sedation to get a tour of the room and the device that is used to strap and hold down the child. My daughter cried during the whole session and I was not informed about this while I was in the waiting room. I was told they will stop the procedure if the child is having a difficult time. My child was about 3 1/2 at this time back in 2019. This was before the pandemic and I am hoping the office changed their procedures and protocol since then. My daughter is 7 now and she dreads going to the dentist and still traumatized from this awful experience. I just had to share my experience. Hoping this practice changed their protocols and allow one Guardian to be in the room for these procedures especially if the child has to be sedated. Then office staff met with my husband and myself after the procedure and we communicated that my child did not do well and it should have not continued. Just want to share my experience. After speaking out to a few other families, we realized that we should have sought a 2nd opinion in getting fillings at that time. Another family did seek a second opinion and told me her child did not need fillings. I wished I have done that. After talking to other families about my experience, it looks like APD is a bit more aggressive in cavities filling. So I recommend getting 2nd opinion if you been told your child need fillings and if you go with them make sure you check the chair and room for the procedure. read more

I cannot express how professional and caring the entire staff was from front to back office, dentists and RDAs. My daughter needed some specialized treatment and was really nervous. We recently had an unsavory experience with this practice around billing and services. My son visited for a routine cleaning and a set of x-rays. At that time it was revealed he had one cavity and my husband was asked if he would agree to apply sealants to his three additional permanent molars that did not have cavities as you cannot seal teeth with cavities. My husband said he would need to speak with me about the sealants but scheduled an appointment to return to have the one cavity filled. At the appointment to fill the cavity my husband was told that my son had 4 cavities that needed filling/cleaning and sealants placed on three of the teeth. This went completely contrary to what was previously stated. When my husband asked for clarity he was told that he was already informed of the four cavities. This could not be further from the truth because it was quite a shock to us that he had just one cavity. It was also extremely unclear why they were now stating that they would seal three of the teeth despite them having cavities when it was stated before that cavity teeth could not be sealed. Fast forward to now, we've received our EOB from our insurance that in fact says that my son had four cavities filled. There is no way he had four cavities because again we would remember. We were certainly charged for 4 resin composite fillings under the same billing code. This is not the first time we've encountered a billing issue with this practice. Previously my son had a cleaning and we do not use fluoride however we were charged for fluoride application. My husband tried to reconcile this and they swore we weren't charged for it but we had a receipt as proof. Again completely unacceptable. read more

I went to Amanda Leong for my teeth cleaning appt last month and paid nothing for my comprehensive X-ray + cleaning and I'm going back for deep cleaning plus deep fillings for two area in two appts and was told that my share of cost is $248 for both appts which is very reasonable. I can't justify i have to pay $160ish for my son's X-ray and a quick brushing every 6 months. Insane! read more
