I didn't realize they actually opened at 10 am, so when I arrived at 9:50 am I think I startled them a bit because several employees were in the lobby watching Mass on the TV. They beckoned me to join them so I sat down. When Mass was over I was given the paperwork to fill out. While I waited a bit, I looked around the lobby and noticed how dirty things were. There was a fish tank covered in algae and the floors needed a good mopping. When I went back to a chair, much of the equipment was older and had duct tape on it or was covered up in an odd way. The hygienist and young dentist were nice, but mentioned several things they thought I needed done that my previous dentist (who I had seen 2 months prior) never said. While gloved, the hygienist repeatedly touched her lashes. I made a polite excuse and left before they could do anything else. I love that it's a family run business, just think they need to step to their customer service, cleanliness, and invest in some new equipment.

He's highly skilled, incredibly efficient, very professional, and extremely ethical. It also helps that he's really funny and easy to talk with. He really cares about his patients and their well being. Dr. Lau has treated my daughter since she was in elementary school; she has a good relationship with dentistry because of Dr. Lau. The biggest compliment I can give Dr. Lau is that he has an incredibly light hand. Even though you're getting a dental procedure, it'll be the most gentle version of that procedure. My spouse walked away from a root canal thinking it was a light procedure. We love Dr. Lau and we think anyone new who comes here will feel the same way! His staff is also fantastic!

My situation is unique, so I will save you the long story/rant. After much intensive research, I found that Dr. Lau had the best reviews in all of the East Bay. I was apprehensive because our dental insurance had been deactivated due to budget cuts from this new administration. I was left despirit and in despair trying to find a quality dentist I could trust with my family of 6 with medical conditionsand disabilities. Coincidentally, my tooth chipped to reveal a cavity which needed to be filled before it hit a nerve. A week later, I found myself at South Shore Dental. My first visit was met with how friendly and professional everyone was. They were all incredibly kind, helpful, and created a feeling of ease and trust. Dr. Lau explained everything and answered all questions with thoroughness and clarity of the examination/consultation. I was especially impressed with his compassion and empathy as he listened to my situation and how it brought me to his office. I am impressed with his integrity and incredibly touched by his generous heart. The procedure was surprisingly comfortable, and there was no discomfort during or after. I loved how he walked me through the whole process as he addressed my concerns and made me feel heard and respected. I have been telling everyone how great Dr. Lau is as he lives up to and surpasses his reputation. I feel incredibly blessed have met Dr.Lau and to have him work on my teeth and esspecially how he went above and beyond to help me with all my concerns. Dentistry truly is his calling in how he is passionate in his profession, and it is reflected in his work and relationships with his patients. Not everyone in life can say they love what they do, but Dr.Lau can! God has certainly blessed him, and I love how he is giving back in God's name. Anyone who goes here can feel confident that you will be provided with exceptional care and an outstanding dental experience that far exceeded and surpasses all other places. Philippians 2:3-4: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others".

INCOMPETENT staff from the top to the bottom…read more My actual date of service was on January 8, 2013. Tell me why on March 28, 2014 was the first time I got a WHIFF of any charge. OVER a YEAR?!!? Who does that? Unscrupulous folk do. Let's back up. I went to Rowe early last year to test out the waters with a dentist in my area. I relocated years ago and still am traveling 25 mins to see my dentist. I was having horrible tooth pain, I searched on Yelp and found Rowe, great reviews and called them immediately. Appointment was easy to come by and staff were a breeze. I even enjoyed the warm and well dressed dental assistant, super old school, but I felt coddled, made me feel safe and secure. The entire appointment lasted about 45 minutes, the doc spent over 25 mins of that time with me, explaining and pointing, providing me with brochures and answering EVERY question I had. Unheard of. I spend 5 mins MAX with my current dentist, the only time I spend any more than that is when I am getting a root canal or a crown. WOW, I thought, I feel really cared for. And the cool photo technology was impressive. The doc pointed out from the photo, the pink line traveling through my molar was a CAVITY and that was the reason for my pain. He said it with confidence and several times, always referring back to the photo technology. ALL of this was a SCREEN for CRAP diagnoses. A few days after the appointment, I was still having pain, it was excruciating, to the point I could not function at work or sleep. My intuition told me this was not just a simple cavity. I decided to get a second opinion from my dentist. Just one simple x-ray, not a fancy color photo technology told my dentist within 3 mins the source of the pain was a FRACTURED molar. I was completely shocked. I wanted to call Dr. Rowe to let him know of his wrong diagnosis. His practice directly connected me to him and I let him know about the fracture. I could hear the hesitation and immediately after, he said, "I said it was a fracture." WHAT?!?! I was shaking. The point of the call was to let him know of his error, not report him. I just wanted him to be aware. In no way was I trying to avoid payment. Just informational, so he can be more careful in what he tells his patients. After I received the notice in March from my insurance, I called them immediately and I was told the following happened: 1) Rowe's office billed my insurance 10/2013, NINE months after my service 2) Got declined, my benefits were maxed out 3) They continued to bill a couple more times through 2013, to no avail 4) March 2014 they tried again and it was declined, as the service was over a YEAR 5) June 2014 they tried again and was declined June 6, 2014, Rowe's office finally decided to bill me personally. This was the FIRST time in SEVENTEEN months I received ANY attempt to collect the $125 for the January 8, 2013 service. I called their office after I received the notice and let them know my displeasure of getting billed so late. Reception explained they were trying to do ME a favor by dealing with my insurance and finally when they exhausted EVERYTHING they had to bill me. She didn't have a response to WHY it took NINE months for their office to bill my insurance in the first place. I KNOW WHY. The doc KNEW I was not satisfied and confrontational. When a patient's insurance is billed, a statement of benefits is sent to the patient. He didn't want to fan the fire. He was hoping the flame would go out. NO, I still remember your abhorrent ethics. Check is in the mail for my balance due. Enjoy!!! No matter how great your technology is and how much time you spend with your patients, it doesn't negate incompetency and then a lack of honesty. THIS OFFICE IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED. Unprofessional, no accountability, avoid.

I had lost two front teeth in a traumatic childhood accident, and the bridge that I had didn't match my natural teeth. I asked Dr. Bagus whether I could get a new bridge, and he said yes. He never told me what all of my options were. He put in a four-unit bridge, and it looked fine, but came loose less than two years later. I went back to him in a panic. He just gave me his cell number and said "call me when it falls out." The loose bridge broke one of the supporting teeth and then fell out within the two weeks. Now I was missing two front teeth, and needed a third front tooth extracted. I'm a teacher, so this means I can't work. I saw several dentists who told me that Dr. Bagus never should have made a bridge like that because it wouldn't last. I went back to Dr. Bagus and told him what the other dentists said, and he said that he agreed, but was "trying to be conservative." Wasn't it his ethical responsibility to tell me what my options were, and to tell me what would and would not last? Did he decide that a teacher couldn't afford anything better than that crappy bridge? My insurance wouldn't cover any replacement because the bridge that I got from Dr. Bagus was supposed to last at least five years. I demanded my money back, about $3000. Dr. Bagus gave me $500. I felt re-traumatized. Over the next 18 months, I had extractions, bone grafts, implants, and finally a new bridge, which totaled about $20,000 out of pocket. I'm glad that Dr. Bagus didn't get a penny of that.
