I chose this dental office back in February based on the Yelp reviews, but unfortunately I am unsure if I will be going back. Dr. Fong herself was super kind and spent a lot of time cleaning my teeth, hence the 3 stars. What I'm not too happy about, however, was how long it took because someone else came mid-appointment and I sat there waiting for her to finish cleaning my teeth. Also, this is the first dental office that has NOT followed up to schedule a 6 month cleaning--no postcard reminders, no phone calls, nothing. read more

I've been seeing Diana Fong for regular cleanings for more than 10 years. Pretty much everything you'd want from a dentist. Also, she spotted several gum-related problems early that ended up requiring periodontal work. She provided referrals that helped take care of the issues, and has continued monitoring them. Very thorough and easy to work with to figure out logistics and insurance etc. Also very personable. Would recommend. read more

I've struggled in the past finding a good nice dentist but Diana and her team are super nice and very reasonable priced. It makes going to the dentist less of a chore. Not to mention they have some great and strict covid 19 related testing in place so you know your safe if your getting a treatment from them. Highly recommend. read more

Although Dr. Fong is a great dentist, I stopped coming because she's just so dang popular. Great for her, but horrible for me because it's almost impossible to see her right away. In addition, I like how she's very chatty and friendly. This is a good thing because it takes my mind off the fact that she's digging around in my mouth. She also gave me a discount because I am a teacher. I hope to come back in the future for routine cleaning. read more

Dr. Fong is a stellar dentist and these reviews are not exaggerated in the least. I've been going to her office for two years now for 6 month check ups and I've had a good experience each time. I especially love that they give you a baggy filled with an extra soft bristled toothbrush and travel-sized floss and toothpaste after every visit. I also appreciate that they'll sanitize your retainers for free while your teeth are getting cleaned! I took my son for ortho consultation with Dr. Fong. We have seen 5 or 6 doctors because I wanted to be extra careful since this is a relpase of last ortho treatment. Dr. Fong seems to be a different kind of doctor. She is more like a friend, a mother, a sister that really want to find the best solution to our problem. She is honest and really care. Recently I received 2 referral slips from Dr. Fong where she wrote detailed instructions and background info. I can see in my mind that out of her very busy schedule, she took the time to write those referral slips with care and heart. Also, I was very touched that she answered my call during weekend and replied to my email questions although we are not her patient yet. I wish we lived closer to her clinic and had her as our family dentist. read more

Without a doubt the best dentist I have been too. My insurance ends today, and I wanted to get in for a cleaning. I called 5 top yelp rated dentist and they were the first to accommodate me. After having just had gum surgery 3 weeks ago I was worried about having a cleaning, and they assured me they would be extra careful. Dr. Fong was patient, and extremely thorough!! She found glue on my lower teeth from a bar I had after my braces, this had been removed over 7 years ago! I always noticed floss catching but other dentist told it was normal. Without mentioning it she found it, and went to town removing it! My teeth have never felt so clean and healthy! A few weeks after my cleaning, my gums became inflamed and I was worried they might be infected. They were able to see me within the hour, between patients, and charged me less than quoted over the phone. Again I left feeling confident and happy with my care. Even though my new insurance doesn't provide for Dr. Fong I would rather pay out of pocket for a Dentist I trust. I can't recommend Dr. Fong and her staff enough!!! read more

Dr. Fong is one of the best dentists I've ever had. She is very thorough and will do exams that other dentists typically don't do, such as checking your thyroid and performing oral cancer exams. She will explain everything she is doing to make you feel more comfortable. Just went in recently during the whole Covid-19 situation and she is taking many precautions to ensure patient safety. I am guilty of writing this review now--- when I live on the other side of the country! Yes, I am missing Dr. Fong and her staff and wishing I could have brought them with me to the East Coast. I am a veteran patient in the dental field. Seriously, I probably had my first root canal when I was eleven. I'm now 38 and I've been in and out of dental offices my whole life, so I have seen the worst and the best of them. Dr. Fong is the best. To begin with, she knows what she's doing. Like others have written about here, Dr. Fong isn't going to upsell you on services. She's frank about your teeth and also caring. She's not in this for the money, folks. The woman really loves teeth and gums. It's like watching an artist when she talks about gums-- she has loads of passion. LIke others wrote, I love that the staff was friendly and checked my insurance. All the costs were super clear to me from the start and I didn't leave with any sticker shock. When I had to go to endo (that's a root canal specialist to you lay people), I was able to come back to Fong to take care of the crown at a reasonable price. I also love that she taught me how her mom uses the gum threader so I'm not wasting it every day.... After moving to the East Coast, I was back in Oakland on a trip -- and bang! tooth ache. Dr. Fong took me as an emergency. I paid out of pocket and happily. I left really confident about what was happening with my teeth. She was able to show me where the problems where -- the complete opposite of my dentists on the East Coast. Oh, I should say that before Dr. Fong, I saw two other dentists in Oakland. One of them got me on a crazy credit plan to pay for dental work. I'm so grateful I found Diana. Even though I'm far from Oakland, she set the standard for every other dentist I'll ever see. read more

all the prior reviews are correct, Dr. Fong is a great dentist and I hate going to the dentist. She is very smart and makes you feel very comfortable once she starts looking over your teeth. She really explains all the procedures really well and informative. With that, I have a deep cleaning appointment with her in a few weeks. Yikes lol read more

Dr. Fong is super friendly and very talkative. She took her time cleaning my teeth and making sure I walked out very satisfied. I really enjoyed my visit here even if it took forever, but I understand my teeth needed the care. The office is clean and the staff accommodating. I am not the type who is scared to go to the dentist but knowing that Dr. Fong is so pleasant makes me happy to go. read more

I live downtown and honestly stumbled upon Dr. Fong's office by mistake. I don't think I can recommend her with any greater enthusiasm as she seems to generally care about my well being. yada yada yada I imagine her primary base are those who frequent Chinatown. The only time I'm there is to see her and hopefully once I begin buying my produce in the area. Also, I just had a root canal today with a doctor she referred. Let me tell you: no pain. If you're a resident of downtown Oakland, I'd definitely consider Dr. Fong. read more

I too found Dr. Fong by mistake. . . such good fortune! First off, the receptionists went to great lengths to verify my insurance. Then Dr. Fong repaired my tooth. As she worked, she spent extra time explaining each step, using mirrors and even taking digital photos to help me see close up. Her touch is like silk, I never felt a thing. Plus, my teeth are a horrible mess from night grinding, but she never once spoke negatively of it. She stayed with me way past closing time, explaining various options for more permanent repairs. She also explained what my insurance may or may not cover. Every person in the office was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I just can't believe my lucky stars to find such an efficient and friendly dentist. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Fong for two years now. She is intelligent, trustworthy, and explains procedures, options (and costs) ahead of time. I completely trust her. Last Friday night an old crown fell off a front tooth, and I was mortified. I left her a phone message on Friday night, and on Saturday morning she called back- she explained that she was already looking at my previous x-ray of the tooth, and asked if I could come in that day. They are the worse. I come for my front two teeth root canal and crowning. I have medical and about to have regular insurance. They promise me that they will cover the front teeth and tell me just pay for my back teeth first. After I fixed my back teeth, they then told me they are going to send request (when I ask them to afterward sheesh) they said they were going to call me back within a week. I called in two weeks. They said no good. They can tell me the truth earlier so I would wait for my delta to kick in but they rather make 1300 from me. I thought I'll just pay for it since they will fix my two front teeth. But I was so wrong. Got ripped off big time. They only care about making the most out of you. Never have I been to a dentist and gotten so mad. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. When I talked to him on the phone. He tried to put blame on his front desk and tried to say if I bring this to court I would lose. I found Dr. Fong after doing some epic dentist searching all over Yelp and Berkeley Parents Network. She's incredibly friendly, laughs a lot, thorough, pleasant, and works really quickly. A perfectionist. She filled 3 cavities for me in one sitting and used some sort of compound topical numbing agent she orders... so no needles poking my gums. Amazing. Apparently, there is a trend of finding these doctors by accident and my story is no different. Dr. Lee and Dr. Fong are long overdue for a review from me because I have been a loyal patient for over 20 years! I've been through 5 geographical moves and multiple dental insurance changes and even through a period where I had no insurance but paid cash anyway because one thing remained the same: I will never seek out another dentist as long as this husband and wife team are in business. Although I have been a great patient to work on because I actually take great care of my teeth, I have to give you the example of my mother because she is a much more difficult patient to handle. I always make the appointment for her (she hates going to the dentist) and like clockwork she ends up cancelling more times with any more excuses than my total years existence (I'm currently 31 years old). Yet, when she has massive toothaches, she demands to be seen the same day, and in some sort of miraculous way, Dr. Lee or Dr. Fong will fit her in, even if it meant scheduling outside of their normal office hours. They go out of their way to get her insurance approved for major dental work, like replacing crowns, doing root canals, etc. and astoundingly, they are patient with her and held amazing restraint to not scold her when she was suffering the consequences of poor dental hygiene. I think the most touching thing of all that I want to share, as small as this seemed, was my last visit to Dr. Fong. She asked how my mom was doing and I told them she was battling cancer. After my appointment concluded, she printed a few pages from her medical journal she had on hand on how to take care of yourself while going through chemo, and gave me a box of Biotene, saying that it will assist her when she has the side affect of dry mouth. As busy as they are, when you are sitting in their seat, they will always make the time to talk to you, address your needs, and put forth a vested interest in not only your dental health but your overall well being too. read more

Highly recommend. I went from almost paying for $1800 in dental work with another doctor to significantly less here, largely because Dr. Fong recommended only doing the filling that was truly necessary (and very reasonably priced) and using alternative methods to address my other tooth problems. The staff is also very friendly. All in all a very pleasant visit to the dentist. read more

I am so glad that I found Dr. Fong. Saw her for the first time yesterday. She was very down to earth and easy to talk to. She was very informative. I can tell that she really cares.
