new crown and fillings, expertly executed by Dr. Dughman in Alameda
    Nicole K.

In need of a fantastic dentist who also accepts Delta Dental (in addition to many other plans)?! I highly recommend Dr. Dughman (Doughman Dental) at 2181 Harbor Bay Parkway. Beautiful, modern practice. Friendly staff. Straight-forward billing. Plus, they call the insurers ahead of time to make sure your plan covers proposed procedures. Yes, they also accept new patients. I broke a 25-year-old crown while noshing on a stale bread stick (yup, don't do that, sigh), and was thrilled to be quickly accommodated with a beautiful interim solution. Two weeks later, the new porcelain crown is absolutely stunning and most comfortable. It comes with a custom retainer and I am beaming publicly again. Also, I did the fillings (covered by insurance), as my roots are exposed due to genetic receding of gum lines. Absolutely amazing result that also safeguards my teeth long-term. Gum recession can lead to tooth sensitivity, increased risk of gum disease, and potentially tooth loss. Most happy patient whose other family members can't wait for their dental cleanings Tel: 510-521-0420 www.dughmandental.com

I was excited when I thought I had found the person who might actually be able to help resolve misaligned bite/jaw issues I've had for years, but this doesn't build trust. I'm not sure what is going on with this office, but if you are not going to answer voice mails, then at least change your outgoing message to indicate that no calls will be returned, or you are not accepting new patients, or COMMUNICATE people. Maybe he is just so successful and flush with existing clients that customer service is not necessary? Again, just let us know and save hopeful clients the frustration of this poor communication. At this point I don't think I could trust my health to this place.

The treatment left me with molars that don't meet and an unstable bite. Dr. Jennings said my teeth would "lengthen" and come together, but they did not. I gave it four years to work. If you do this treatment, just know that it might be only a first step. I'm now paying another orthodontist to stabilize my bite. You should also know that the treatment is kind of like wearing Lego bricks between your teeth. You get used to it. Finally, I suggest asking questions to understand the treatment trajectory. He will need you to remind him of his strategy. His mind is a bit of ping pong game...a new idea with every stroke. I'm still grateful for the treatment because the only solution offered by other orthodontists would have been to break and reset my jaw. Jennings fixed the jaw, but he did not, could not, or would not fix the teeth.

He's highly skilled, incredibly efficient, very professional, and extremely ethical. It also helps that he's really funny and easy to talk with. He really cares about his patients and their well being. Dr. Lau has treated my daughter since she was in elementary school; she has a good relationship with dentistry because of Dr. Lau. The biggest compliment I can give Dr. Lau is that he has an incredibly light hand. Even though you're getting a dental procedure, it'll be the most gentle version of that procedure. My spouse walked away from a root canal thinking it was a light procedure. We love Dr. Lau and we think anyone new who comes here will feel the same way! His staff is also fantastic!

My situation is unique, so I will save you the long story/rant. After much intensive research, I found that Dr. Lau had the best reviews in all of the East Bay. I was apprehensive because our dental insurance had been deactivated due to budget cuts from this new administration. I was left despirit and in despair trying to find a quality dentist I could trust with my family of 6 with medical conditionsand disabilities. Coincidentally, my tooth chipped to reveal a cavity which needed to be filled before it hit a nerve. A week later, I found myself at South Shore Dental. My first visit was met with how friendly and professional everyone was. They were all incredibly kind, helpful, and created a feeling of ease and trust. Dr. Lau explained everything and answered all questions with thoroughness and clarity of the examination/consultation. I was especially impressed with his compassion and empathy as he listened to my situation and how it brought me to his office. I am impressed with his integrity and incredibly touched by his generous heart. The procedure was surprisingly comfortable, and there was no discomfort during or after. I loved how he walked me through the whole process as he addressed my concerns and made me feel heard and respected. I have been telling everyone how great Dr. Lau is as he lives up to and surpasses his reputation. I feel incredibly blessed have met Dr.Lau and to have him work on my teeth and esspecially how he went above and beyond to help me with all my concerns. Dentistry truly is his calling in how he is passionate in his profession, and it is reflected in his work and relationships with his patients. Not everyone in life can say they love what they do, but Dr.Lau can! God has certainly blessed him, and I love how he is giving back in God's name. Anyone who goes here can feel confident that you will be provided with exceptional care and an outstanding dental experience that far exceeded and surpasses all other places. Philippians 2:3-4: "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of others".

Then every time we…read morewould show up expecting it was his last treatment, they would scold him and say, "You have to wear your rubberbands! We'll check again in another 4-6 weeks. " This happened in May, then August, then September, then October, then November. Each time he came out of a 6 minute appointment with the same vague prognosis and direction. He was absolutely 100% consistent with keeping rubberbands on 24/7. However, finally, today after 25 months of treatment, the doctor asked him to show how he was putting on the bands and realized he was not attaching his rubberbands at the right anchors which was affecting the movement of the teeth. When he was not progressing, shouldn't they have thought to do this 6 months ago? So I expressed frustration. The doctor tried to tell me that they had predicted the braces coming off in November but I could point to a note right on his chart that said September. She also tried to show me on his chart small notations that she said meant each time he has been in that they taught him how to attach the bands. He says no, they just asked if he was wearing them. They verbally told him what to do but never checked as today. He has also gotten contradictory directions; one doctor said to wear the left side always and the right only at night. Then a different doctor said to always wear both. Now this third doctor said he should have been doing the different schedule for left and right sides. This place is a factory churning people through in under 15 mins each. I did not think I needed to go stand next to my 16 year old and listen and watch over the care, but if you use this business, you definitely should. Shuffling patients between 3 doctors does not seem like best practice to me and you might end up with months of extra discomfort due to their cursory exams and lip service.

INCOMPETENT staff from the top to the bottom…read more My actual date of service was on January 8, 2013. Tell me why on March 28, 2014 was the first time I got a WHIFF of any charge. OVER a YEAR?!!? Who does that? Unscrupulous folk do. Let's back up. I went to Rowe early last year to test out the waters with a dentist in my area. I relocated years ago and still am traveling 25 mins to see my dentist. I was having horrible tooth pain, I searched on Yelp and found Rowe, great reviews and called them immediately. Appointment was easy to come by and staff were a breeze. I even enjoyed the warm and well dressed dental assistant, super old school, but I felt coddled, made me feel safe and secure. The entire appointment lasted about 45 minutes, the doc spent over 25 mins of that time with me, explaining and pointing, providing me with brochures and answering EVERY question I had. Unheard of. I spend 5 mins MAX with my current dentist, the only time I spend any more than that is when I am getting a root canal or a crown. WOW, I thought, I feel really cared for. And the cool photo technology was impressive. The doc pointed out from the photo, the pink line traveling through my molar was a CAVITY and that was the reason for my pain. He said it with confidence and several times, always referring back to the photo technology. ALL of this was a SCREEN for CRAP diagnoses. A few days after the appointment, I was still having pain, it was excruciating, to the point I could not function at work or sleep. My intuition told me this was not just a simple cavity. I decided to get a second opinion from my dentist. Just one simple x-ray, not a fancy color photo technology told my dentist within 3 mins the source of the pain was a FRACTURED molar. I was completely shocked. I wanted to call Dr. Rowe to let him know of his wrong diagnosis. His practice directly connected me to him and I let him know about the fracture. I could hear the hesitation and immediately after, he said, "I said it was a fracture." WHAT?!?! I was shaking. The point of the call was to let him know of his error, not report him. I just wanted him to be aware. In no way was I trying to avoid payment. Just informational, so he can be more careful in what he tells his patients. After I received the notice in March from my insurance, I called them immediately and I was told the following happened: 1) Rowe's office billed my insurance 10/2013, NINE months after my service 2) Got declined, my benefits were maxed out 3) They continued to bill a couple more times through 2013, to no avail 4) March 2014 they tried again and it was declined, as the service was over a YEAR 5) June 2014 they tried again and was declined June 6, 2014, Rowe's office finally decided to bill me personally. This was the FIRST time in SEVENTEEN months I received ANY attempt to collect the $125 for the January 8, 2013 service. I called their office after I received the notice and let them know my displeasure of getting billed so late. Reception explained they were trying to do ME a favor by dealing with my insurance and finally when they exhausted EVERYTHING they had to bill me. She didn't have a response to WHY it took NINE months for their office to bill my insurance in the first place. I KNOW WHY. The doc KNEW I was not satisfied and confrontational. When a patient's insurance is billed, a statement of benefits is sent to the patient. He didn't want to fan the fire. He was hoping the flame would go out. NO, I still remember your abhorrent ethics. Check is in the mail for my balance due. Enjoy!!! No matter how great your technology is and how much time you spend with your patients, it doesn't negate incompetency and then a lack of honesty. THIS OFFICE IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED. Unprofessional, no accountability, avoid.
